drink tax continues, keep it here on "eyewitness news". we will have more coverage tonight at 11:00. get latest on our web site at cbs philly.com. parts of our area are cleaning up from damage after severe storms moved through. >> "eyewitness news" in camden where a tree fell on the car with the driver inside. she was shaken up but not hurt. rescuers took 15 minutes to get her out. the car, as you can see a total loss. large tree branch came down on a car in bala cynwyd montgomery county. other branches felon power and cable lines but they did not ultimately come down. and this tent was no match for strong wind churned up by the stormy weather, temporary structure came down like a house of card over by waterworks in the art museum area. meteorologist kate bilo joins us to give you the scoop on the damage from today's storm and scope of it as well. kate, how many people are still without power tonight. >> ukee, we have thousands of people without power. lets look the at latest numbers from local power companies, peco has over

18,000 people still without power. bulk of those in chester, delaware and philadelphia counties. across portions of new jersey and delaware we are still seeing a lot of power outages, over 12,000 from pse and g in burlington county alone, ac electric 6,856 without power, and del marva, 4,294 left without power. majority of those in new castle county. lets look at the storms as they rolled through earlier this afternoon, and not looking good through areas especially south of philadelphia that is where strongest storms came down. we had a few that formed in the wake of the main line of storms but lets look at damage reports all across the region. boy, it was a rough afternoon out there. we had a wind gust in philadelphia, 59 miles an hour reported at the airport. win gusts over 07 miles an hour in cumberland county. hail in sicklerville of .3 inches. in delaware a tree on the car in new castle county. coming up i'll tell but a big change in the wake of the storms. for now, back to you. >> thank you, kate.

defense rested in congressman chaka fattah's racketeering trial. fattah is accused of arranging an illegal one million-dollar campaign loan and paying back part of it with federal grant money and charitable donations. his defense claim political operatives close to fattah were behind the whole thing and congressman had no idea. closing argument are set for monday. history made, hillary clinton becomes first woman to secure a presidential nomination, for a major party. really been at the top of the major party ticket ever. hillary clinton today said that she is the nominee of the democratic party. she reach the necessary threshold, that is 2,383 delegates needed to be the nominee but it won't officially happen until the democratic national convention here in philadelphia next month. i spoke to political analyst on both side of the aisle about the significance about having a woman on top of the major party ticket for the first time in 227 years. >> i'm the mom of a girl so for women and girls, this is a huge moment but i do think that she has trouble connecting with women that don't necessarily agree with her on all of her policies because they represent policies of the obama administration. >> as a dad, certainly for girls and for boys, but especially for girls. just one more barrier broken. there are so many barriers that need to be broken down that stand in the way of young people, boys and girls, young men and young women.

>> republican strategies allison young worked inside of the george w. bush white house, she left in early 2009. michael nutter has been in politics on the democratic side. i wanted to reach out to vote tours see what they had to say. i spoke to the democrat supporting bernie sanders and a republican, who also admits that even though they don't always agree with hillary clinton, the republican doesn't agree with her on any issues, he does admit this is a significant achievement. >> i totally agree with what sanders said this morning when he said all of the little girls out there whose dream big and want to accomplish things, you can do it. it is a good example of that. >> we're in the city where all men are created equal, now fighting for women's right to vote and here a woman, a top contender for president. >> reporter: everyone i spoke to, republican and democrats alike, many off camera say they are looking forward to a hillary clinton/donald trump

september of 1968, just months after the assassination of the reverend doctor martin luther king junior. he retired 20 years later a and now lives in wilmington. corporal snow has four children, nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, congratulations. a generous donation will keep some of the philadelphia's finest safer. >> the entire k-9 unit will get brand new equipment. all 23 members of the k-9 unit will be out filedded with new state of the art body arm or. they were donated $22,000 for new vests could be purchased. and she feels the dogs are a crucial part of the police force. >> these k-9's are unsung heroes, and true first responders. they are often thrust into dangerous situations and they keep their hand letters and, innocent civilians out of the harms way. >> the new k-9 arm or was not included in this cities current budget. it will be first time in many

years, that each k-9 will have its own specially made, body arm or. last summer we told but coyote sightings down the shore. it a peers they are back as summer beach season gets underway. "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan spoke to one home owner who had a chosen counter with one of the animals. >> i never seen coyoties down here. >> reporter: few weeks ago amill had a, late night solicitor he never expect at his door. >> 11:30 at the night, i heard the dog and said who is that? you know, i look outside the door and she was right on the porch here, yeah. >> reporter: coyote on your porch. >> yeah he lives in the diamond beach section of the lower township a few blocks south of the wildwood crest, starting this spring he seen coyoties a half dozen times and they don't seem scared at him. >> i started to walk toward it and it stood its ground and kept looking at me so i back off. >> reporter: he is third person on the street to tell "eyewitness news" this week

about coyote sightings, all giving descriptions that are identical to this coyote captured last summer trotting down pacific avenue knew in wildwood crest. >> it has been going on for a while now. >> especially with the construction boom over the last, you know, five years, it is forcing die yet toys come out. >> reporter: animals are also spotted inland, january he will axleson who lives in lower township took this picture tuesday night. wild life experts say coyoties adaptable and live in almost every region of new jersey. they say best way to avoid them is by securing your trash cans. some people are concerned about the coyoties getting too close to children and pets. >> you know, you have to be careful around here. >> reporter: while some people we spoke with said they want coyoties removed far away from their families at the shore, state wild life officials say they would only send a control june fit there were reports of the coyoties acting aggressive. so far they say that has not happened n lower township, cleve bryan, for cbs-3

diploma more than 60 years after leaving school. >> photo journalist tommy gardener was there for the big moment. >> ♪ >> my name is alfreda johnson she was an inspiration to the other students. i am 77 years young. >> miss alfreda johnson, one of my favorite classmates,. >> miss alfreda johnson. >> yeah. >> we call her mom, mom, grand mom. >> all of the students were really nice and respectful. >> our students love and support her and she has been a inspiration for all of us. >> miss johnson never forgot the high school diploma that she left behind in florida, way back in 1955. so, she never stopped believing that the graduation day would come.

over the city of philadelphia a those clouds pop up with that cold air, and it does stay cool outside. temperatures in the mid 60's right now and we are dropping down in the 40's and 50's, later tonight. here's storm scan three this shows past two hours. we started day with clear skies and watch as this line of storms gets its act together and rumble through right about here and watch it intensify off the coast. the atlantic ocean got hit hard as that system moved off shore, taking on that hook echo shape to it, shortwave trough as it moves off coast and moves away still producing storms over new england. most of us are sitting pretty, storms have moved out and just pop up shower still possible this evening. few possible rain drops out and about but nothing like what we saw earlier today when these storms came through, up are deerfield cumberland county 72 miles an hour wind gust theres millville 66. brigantine had a reported win gusts of 64 miles an hour. temperatures have been tumbling.

we hit 83 for the high yesterday. today's high got to 73 just briefly before 11:00 a.m. then tumbled. by noon temperatures in the 50's. we have in the recovered only in the 60's right now. look the at the dew point, dew point currently 39 degrees. that is not even on the scale. we don't even have 40 on the scale. talking about dew points in the 30's that takes awesome and ramps it up a couple notches. incredibly low humidity on the way, tonight, tomorrow and friday as well. when you wake up tomorrow morning 40's and 50's. chilly start. beautiful afternoon. temperatures in the 70's. lots of sunshine. friday looking good. mostly sunny, upper 07's and watch for a shower or thunderstorm along a warm front saturday. overnight mainly clear breezy and cool at 54. your thursday mostly sunny, breezy, beautiful, light jacket or sweat shirt when you leave the house or put kid on the bus tomorrow morning but won't need it in the afternoon. friday is gorgeous day for any outdoor plans and weekend not bad watch for that strong thunderstorm late saturday,
