>> good morning to you, today is monday, june 13th, i'm nicole brewer in for jim donovan. >> i'm brooke thomas. we are learning more this morning about the gunman behind the worse mass shooting in american history. at least 50 people are dead, and 53 more are hurt. omar mateen was on the fbi's radar, been interviewed by an agent back in 2013. his ex-wife called him mentally unstable. investigators say, mateen walked into the crowd at pulse club early in the morning caring assault rifle, then sprayed helpless crowd with a birrage of bullets. in the close quarters it was hard to miss his target. >> he shot at police and also took hostages, investigators are still removing bodies at this hour from that club. some family members still trying to find out if their loved ones are dead or alive. now, two of the people who were killed are from philadelphia. their names have not yet been released, and news intern who was working in philadelphia

was shot and is expected to recover. kenneth craig has more. >> reporter: well, good morning it, has been nearly 24 hours since this all unfunded here in orlando. you can see authority still very much have this entire area blocked off as they go through that night club room by room, trying to identify the dead. >> one by one bodies of the victims were hauled away from the pulse night club sunday night. earlier anxious family members sobbed as they learned the fate of their loved ones. police say 29 year old omar mateen armed with a ar15 semiautomatic assault rifle and the handgun opened fire on the crowded gay club around 2:00 sunday morning. club goers sean royce err escaped a mid the chaos. >> they were like charging bodies, people that were wounded, to get them out of the way, worse in my entire

life. >> fbi investigating the incident as ac of terrorism after mateen wendt into a bub to crawl 191 to bridge his allegiance to isis. >> first became aware of mateen in 2013, made inflammatory comments to co, worse alleging possible terrorist ties. >> the fbi looked at him again in 2014 to investigate potential ties to american suicide bomb nerve syria. the agency says it closed both investigations because mateen did not pose a threat at the time. bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms, said mateen legally bought the guns used in sunday massacre. >> did purchase two firearms, handgun and a long gun within the last few days. >> the shooter's ex-wife told reporters she left her marriage only after four months. >> he was mentally unstable and mentally ill. >> authorities will release the names of more victims today. >> so far authorities have identified at least 21 of 50

victims, they range from 20's to 50 years old. i'm kenneth graying greg in orlando, now back to you. >> kenneth, what has the scene been like overnight? >> reporter: very emotional, been nearly 24 hours since this all unfolded. you can see authority still very much have this area blocked off as they go through that night club room by room trying to identify the dead. >> thank you, live from orlando. much more on the orlando night club shooting in just a moment. >> first, let's get you ready for a check on your day with kate. >> i things are very tranquil here in the weather department, specking nothing more than some sunshine throughout the day. yesterday that wind was very, very harsh, we had those gusts as high as 45-mile per hour, they are thankfully tapering off. you will still notice a breeze, but not quite as strong, and thankfully also keep the low humidity throughout the day today. storm scan, nice and tranquil, night nice and quiet, will

stay that way. interesting thing here we've really seen cooler drier air take grip here. so the temperature change just within the last 24 hours from the same time yesterday, is as high as 20 degrees. so it feels dramatically cooler by comparison. it was very muggy, it was very mild obviously on our sunday morning, now as we go throughout the course of the day today we're going to ease into that much drier air mass, and that's going to limit your temperatures, too, upper 70s later today, still with a breeze, but it is remaining again lower on the humidity scale, and we will keep the sun around for you, as well. so if you are hitting the pool perhaps, not the hottest, steamiest days you've ever experienced but good day to sit poolside, breezy granted but not quite the wind of yesterday. uv inch election will be up at a nine. so latter on the sun block, again, comfortable air in place with the sunshine. so sunglasses required, too, meisha, over to you. >> thank you so much, katie. heavy hearts this morning in indeedment also dealing with a very serious accident here, video of accident on the blue route northbound and southbound, right now, all

lanes are blocked near the media swarthmore area. southbound, just so you know, southbound traffic right now being diverted onto baltimore pike, northbound onto mcdade boulevard. see the debris in the roadway, crews obviously on site here, so again, all lanes blocked, blue route, northbound, southbound, near media swarthmore. traffic being diverted both in the northbound and southbound directions this morning. moving along, 95 south at girard, what you are looking at, you can see just stream of vehicles now starting to hit interstate 95 pushing in the southbound direction, good indicator it might get little busier today. moving in the southbound direction, wissahickon avenue. you can see looking pretty good on boulevard so far. the vine was not closed last night for overnight construction, looking pretty good. westbound look real nice, eastbound slightly heating up little bit this morning, also, we do have accident in norristown, main street, stand board street, all of the tapes coming up. route 101 trolley shuttle bussing between orange and providence road it, ends this friday.

nicole, over to you. >> meisha, thanks so much. we are learning more about the man who opened fire inside that orlando night club. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch joins us from the cbs-3 satellite center more on that, justin? >> nicole, brooke, good morning, day two of their probe, federal investigators are piecing together more about omar mateen. he is the man officials say opened fire, inside the pulled night club sunday morning, and he's also someone whose name nef ' seen before. >> omar mateen age 29 shot dead in a stand-off with law enforcement sunday morning has been on the fed's radar at least twice before. in 2013, his then co-workers say he made comments tying himself to terrorism, and claimed he knew the tsarnaev brother. >> including interviews of witnesses, physical surveillance, and records check. >> fbi officials interviewed mateen but found no credible tie. the next year, he again drew their attention.

>> in 2014 mateen again came to the attention of the fbi because of possible ties to salah, american suicide bomber. >> in the end, that investigation was closed, with reportedly in the enough contact to constitution mateen being a suspect. mateen, who is an american citizen, was born to parents who are from afghanistan. he made his home in port st. lucie florida early sunday morning, cbs sources say he made calls to 911 pledging allegiance to isis, and armed with a legally purchased assault style rifle, mateen made his way inside the pulled night club and opened fire, some inside hiding themselves in a freezer from the rapid gunfire. >> they heard it repeated. everybody just dropped to the floor. >> at mateen's fort pierce area mosque, speak to go reporter. >> we don't know what was in his mind. >> and at this time, officials say, they are working to confirm a relationship between mateen and isis, the is a.m.

"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo live for us at city hall where many will gather later today for a vigil, jan? >> reporter: good morning, that's right, we have now learned that two of the victims are from the philadelphia area. their names have not been released. we have also learned that a news intern who was working in philadelphia was there in orlando on sunday who was shot and injured but that person is expected to be okay. in the meantime, happening here at city hall, little later on this evening, a candlelight vigil for all were impacted. philly pride, standing strong on sunday, the crowds

were cheerful, both during the parade and festivities afterward, many saying they could think of no better way to show their support. but the tragedy in orlando was definitely on everyone's mind. >> there is so much hate out there, and there was supposed to be a beautiful day, everywhere, with people celebrate love and pride, everything. and just, you know, but we're not going to let that bring us down, there are haters and there are lovers. let's be loving. >> meanwhile, flags lowered to half staff, this sit mourns the 50 people killed and dozens injured. "eyewitness news" has learned two of the victims were from philly, news, the owner here, friends with the owner of pulse in orlando. >> some of my staff actually know staff that work there. we've been in contact with them. so we casino of like it was a slobbinger. >> while we all stand together, and finds waste to celebrate, we also are grappling with mourning and looking for answers. >> the lgbt community in philadelphia determined to honor the lives lost, by making a bold statement.

you not take a life un justify fully. it is very clear in the standing and the holy koran. >> the idea of non-violence is one of this group's core principals. on the same day as the night club shooting police say they stopped what could have been another deadly attack. this time, gay pride celebrations in california. police say a heavily armed, indianna man, arrested on his way to gay pride parade in saint monica. twenty year old james wesley howell allegedly armed with multiple weapons including at least one assault rifle. >> we recovered additional firearm, high capacity magazine, officers did finds sole chemicals that could have been used for improvised explosives device, which in turn led to us calling out the la bomb squad. they determined the area and vehicle safe. >> police do not believe this arrest is related to the night club shooting in orlando. 5:11 right now, still ahead on "eyewitness news" this

wait to go get the status of their loved ones. at 10:00 a.m., authorities will hold their next briefing to let family and friends know who they have identified so far. one woman whose son died in the attack says her son texted her from inside the night club. >> he text me at 2:00 on said mommy i love you. in the club they are shooting. that will was at 2:06. trapped in the bathroom. downtown. please call police. i'm going to die. >> oh, friends, family, will gather at a hotel about a mile away from the shooting for that briefing later this morning. >> the governor of new york and due cuomo directed the light of one world trade center spire to be displayed in rainbow colors in solidarity with the lgbt community, empire state building remained dark in sympathy for the victims. >> tell you, what, just a tough, tough monday morning.

hopefully the weather is holding up for us? >> very quiet out there, nicole, actually starting things off on very trans will note. still he will remain tad breezy for us today. thankfully not quite the wind whatever we experienced yesterday. i was actually at the shore myself, i can tell you, very blustery day, a lot of umbrellas flying down the shore yesterday afternoon, bye thankfully that breeze starts to taper off somewhat today. >> outside to stunning shot this morning, this being take never ocean city cape may county gel still pad breezy for this morning but the colors of the rain bought out there as the sun start to climb over the horizon, as we go next over to storm storm sca, things still pretty quiet. nothing more than couple of clouds overhead, the overriding theme of our forecast for couple of days here, so basically, east of the mississippi, not finding too much going on in the weather department. pretty clear and collected and calm this hour. how is it going to feel to us?

pretty awesome. i love what we can give you this level on the humidity feel here. because the next couple of days with that drier air in place, you don't have to worry about anything steamy or oppressive let alone insufferable. up tick in the humidity coming as next front begins to lift north, actually the one that dropped south yesterday, will re lift off to the north bring with it area of low pressure along it as the days progress, not today, not tomorrow. very likely not wednesday either. but you can see the difference here in how much warmer it is down into charleston, atlanta, even this hour as compared to what it is in philadelphia. if you are hitting the shore point this afternoon, and there may still be some breeze to contend with, wind gusts upward or wind speeds in general upward 20 miles per hour, but shouldn't be quite the gust that we saw yesterday. although you will still in the it. uv index up at a nine, keep the mid 70s at the shore town, 7 degrees on our monday in philadelphia, we keep the sun around tomorrow, it is a nice day, wednesday, still looking pretty good but showers and storm return on thursday.

meisha, over you. >> thank you so much. good morning, everyone, happy monday. so, you're looking at casino of back up camera right now. bathesly what you are looking at is the blue route pass mcdade. the reason you are looking at these vehicles stopped completely right now is because you are ooh ' waking up this morning to an accident on the blue route northbound and southbound right now completely block, at media swarthmore. this is accident involving one fatality this morning, it happened just before 3:00 a.m. crews are still out there trying to get this cleared up. southbound traffic is being diverted onto baltimore pike. northbound traffic what you are looking at right now onto mcdade boulevard. debris in the roadway where the accident is. so like i said, crews still slow out there. see some of them right there that's blocking the road. all every these just happen to be casino of in this middle area where they cannot progress. so, if you are even thinking about heading out to the blue route, just know, northbound, southbound right now, all lanes are blocked, near media

>> fifty were killed, at least 50 more hurt inside a night club in orlando. bodies are being slowly removed from the puts night club as we speak. twenty-nine year old omar mateen, armed with assault rifle and handgun opened fire into the crowd early yesterday morning. mateen was shot dead by swat officers. new this morning, man is dead after his vehicle went out of control in bustleton. the crash happened at the corner of old bustleton avenue and greg street, around 1:30 a.m. witnesses told police, the man was driving irradically and ran several red light before crash nothing a tree and a brick wall. medics pronounced the driver dead at the scene, police will test to see if drugs or alcohol were involved. >> police are looking for the driver who hit a man on motorcycle then fled the scene. this happened around 11:30 last night near cottman avenue
