that will change tonight and certainly tomorrow. as we bring in summer so get ready for hot, humid conditions returning just in time, as we kick off the official start of the summer season, but not a bad way to finish offer the weekends. still this morning, pretty comfortable outside, not quite as cool as yesterday morning, mid 60s, and the sun is up, 66 degrees, at the airport in philadelphia, light breeze out of the south, eight # miles per hour, so see slow increase in humidity levels today. temperature change compared to 24 hours ago, you can see, positive numbers here, anywhere from four to 13 degrees warmer than this time yesterday. that's a sign of the warmer air mass starting to build into the region, everybody pretty much in the 60s at this hour, sitting at 60 up in allentown, 62 wilmington, delaware, few select areas in upper 50's, such as quakertown, 57 at this hour. storm scan3, notice mid to high level clouds around this morning, into the afternoon, but that's about it, no threat of rain. outdoor activities planned for dad, that is go, no matter where you're cross the region, little something for everybody

as far as the temperatures go, nice and pleasant at the shore, upper 70s there, still bit of breeze developing off the atlantic later this afternoon, but in spots, up to nine the degrees for philadelphia, even p in the mountains, start to warm up into the low 80s, that's the trend, hot, humid conditions as we head into the work week, we time it out for you, let you know how long it lasts coming up in the seven day in a few minutes. >> justin, thank you. we begin this morning, with breaking news, an investigation is underway in south philadelphia. after a mini-van somehow landed in the delaware river. it happened early this morning, near columbus boulevard. cherri gregg from sister station "kyw news radio" is live near the scene where that vehicle was just pulled out within the hour, good morning, cherry. >> reporter: good morning, still very active scene as you can see behind me. rescue work remembers still working to identify whether or not someone was inside that vehicle which was just pulled from the delaware river. less than an hour ago, we just heard an update from captain

mark overwide from the third district, police say they got the call just before 3:00 a.m. this morning, two witnesses, say, they saw a vehicle speeding down oregon avenue, they crossed columbus ripped through the gate here, at the shipyard, then crashed into the delaware river. the witnesses dialed 911 and police fire and marine officials of course came to the scene, divers immediately went to work, and within just few minutes they pulled a silveri white suv, as you can see, from the video we have, the front of the vehicle, severely damaged, front bumper rips off. three tires are missing. the vehicle literally broke apart as rescuers pulled it from the water, which i understand is only about 20 feet deep. here is what one of the eyewitnesses had to say. >> i mean, a car comes flying by, silver, not sure of the model, comes flying by, so not paying attention i heard a crash, i thought it crashed into another car. i look over, i heard the gate

missing and heard a splash. so i told my friend in the car, yo, somebody just went into the water. we pulled over immediately and called the cops right up. >> police, fire, marine units are still here on the scene, i guess the firetrucks just left. as you can see, rescue workers are looking inside of the merky water. they look inside of the vehicle, but did not finds a body, and they are currently searching to see whether or not someone was inside. again, we just got an update from captain mark overwise, the vehicle has been removed from the delaware river. but they are currently trying to determine whether or not someone was inside that vehicle. we will continue to update you as the morning continues. live in south philadelphia, cherri gregg, "kyw news radio" for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> cherri gregg, thank you, we will check in with you throughout the show. >> we are getting a idea of the living conditions inside bucks county home for the 12 girls rescued from there last

week, shows us the feasterville home totally self-sufficient, so the homeowner never had to let anyone come in or anyone go out. >> they were living down in the basement, they were hiding in the chicken coup. >> that's the living condition investigators found 12 young children living in, inside this feasterville home on old street road. none were enrolled in school, and police have not found birth certificates for any of the children. >> you look at the house, i mean, one boarded up, windows always closed, little strange. >> the homeowner, 51 year old lee kaplan, now faces multitude of charges including sexual assault. after police say he fathered two of the children with the eldest girl, who was only 14 years old when she first conceived. she is now 18. >> mr. kaplan had her living there as some casino of retainer for a financial situation. >> authorities say the girls parent, daniel unsafer ill a stolevet, part of the amish community in lancaster community, admitting to gifting their daughter to kaplan in exchange of helping them out of financial ruin, told police they thought it

was legal after research on line. >> kaplan's neighbors are still in shock. >> it makes fee feel terrible that i'm two doors away, i didn't even know this was going on. >> inside the home investigators found an elaborate train set worth tens of thousands of dollars, along with homework and musical instruments. >> apparently one self-self, cases every cans food, chicken coup with a lot of chicken? it. >> although the investigation is far from over, neighbors say they're relieved the children are safe. >> this is it, finally, enough, like catch this guy. >> and because there were no birth certificates found inside the home, it is still not clear who those ten other children are and whether they are related. meantime, kaplan and the girls two parent remain in county jail on $1 million bail each. in feasterville, anita oh, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> and stay with "eyewitness news" as we continue to follow the investigation into this case. our coverage continues any time on line at cbsphilly.com.

>> well, new this morning, neighbors in port richmond are getting a rude awakening, several cars were damaged in a early morning accident. those cars were either dented or side-swiped near venango and edgemont early this morning. police were able to track down the driver, neighbors tell us it was a shock to see the car coming toward them, being driven irradically. >> every car coming down the block, on to the next block, and almost hit one or two more. >> and the accident are still under investigation. so far no charges have been filed. >> philadelphia police's bomb squad is investigating a suspicious device that was carried into northwest detective at broad and champ plows streets. police found the device in the back pack after male brought in for an undisclosed reason. now it, wasn't clear exactly two it was, but police took no chances. >> there was some sort of pipe bomb that was in the back pack, what appeared to be a pipe bomb. but they don't really know the

threat level of the device until they take it back to the bomb disposal unit and investigate it. >> the station was evacuated and the nearby section of broad street closed for about 30 minute, this morning, everything is back to normal. chester county investigators are trying to find out who beat a woman to death in her own home. sixty-two year old denise, found dead friday, in tredyffrin township, relative discovered the body on the 900 block of heather stone drive. police say she was recently widowed, and authorities are investigate the case as a homicide. if you have any information, police want to hear from you. >> wilmington police are investigating a fatal shooting, officers responded to a call of gunfire on the 900 block of north pine street yesterday afternoon. when they arrived, they found a 29 year old man with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. he later died at the hospital. no information yet on suspect. >> and philadelphia police are investigating a shooting that ended with one man dead, and another man critically wounded. investigators say, the

victims, both 26, were shot just before 3:00 yesterday afternoon. it happened on the 1,000 block of edgemore road. so far no after he cents. >> a violent assault in philadelphia's feltonville neighborhood sends a man to the hospital. police say yesterday afternoon, someone slashed the man in the face at mascher street and wyoming avenue. the victim is in his 30's, in critical condition at temple hospital. the suspect is in police custody this morning, but no word yet on motive. >> one week after the worse mass shooting in modern history, the archdioces of philadelphia is holding a mass in memory of the orlando victims. the mass is at 6:30 this evening, at the basilica of saint peter and paul. orlando meantime is determined to stay strong as the victim's families bid them final farewell during funeral services, weijia jiang has more. >> ♪ >> the crowd at orlando's camping world stadium sent a powerful message by wearing the colors of the rainbow. >> hopefully shows unity, and

including 28 year old angel padro, his father says now god has a new angel. weijia jiang, for cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> the family after nebraska toddler killed by alligator at disney resort are speaking out again. in a statement matt and melissa grave say they have overwelmed with support and love, they continue: we understanded the public's interest, but as we move forward this weekend we ask for and appreciate the privacy we agreed to lay our son to rest. autopsy result say two year old lane graves died in drowning and traumatic injuries. disney is now adding warning signs and temporary barriers to their beach areas. >> and, there is still much more to come on cbs-3 "eyewitness news". firefighters gain ground on a wild fire in southern california but that's not the only hot spot. >> donald trump pushes back at what he calls last ditch effort to de now him republican presidential nomination. and one democrat fires back.

7,000 acres have burned, but no homes have caught fire. 270 homes, though, remain at risk. another wild fire, this one in arizona, is 30% contained. the cedar fire has burned close to 19 square miles since wednesday. firefighters have beat containment areas on the northern and western sides of the flames. officials say they're confident they can get the upper hand soon. >> number one objective, of course, ensuring that we have emergency responder safety, and that those folks are well taken care of. you know, that second objective, you know, providing protection for the communities that they are adjacent to or within the potential threat of the fire. >> so far there are no mandatory evacuations, though, many people have decided to leave town. >> presumptive republican nominee, donald trump, continues to express his frustration over the lack of party unity. during a appearance in las vegas, he addressed rumors that the gop will try to deny

morning, so remember, yesterday we were in the 50's, even some 40's, in some of the coolest spots, mid 50's around philadelphia, at the airport, 62 aspen, farther up to the north we go to the lehigh valley, similar numbers, little cooler though quakertown, checking in at 57 degrees, this hour. just like yesterday, nothing happening across the mid-atlantic and northeast, just dominated by high pressure, few thin mid to high level clouds, rolling on in from north to south today. if you are taking dad to the ballpark today, it will be a hot one. lots of sunshine, 87 degrees at first pitch, with arizona in town, game time at 1:35. today, so overall, good day for some baseball. shore forecast, looks pretty good, as well, pleasant, 78 degrees, ocean now up to 68 degrees. the uv index very high, up to nine and ten, pretty much the highest it gets, around the delaware valley. and rip countries being lowers today, wind will be southwest this morning, then they'll turn more southeast for the afternoon, so we get the afternoon sea breeze bringing some relief across the jersey shore and delaware beaches. so here is the overall pattern, next couple of days,

as long as high pressure system over us, we won't see whole lot. just except whole lot of sunshine, that helps warm the temperatures up. and that trend continues into monday, looking good, maybe few more clouds arrive later on monday night. then we watch this cold front, as it slides through, tuesday morning, tuesday afternoon, you see not whole lot of moisture with it, so shower chances pretty low on tuesday, could be thunderstorm in some spots, best licenses probably from the city on south and east as you head into the afternoon. but overall not a wash out whatsoever, don't cancel any outdoor plans you have for this tuesday. but today, things do heat up inland. up to around 90 degrees for philadelphia, 70s along the immediate shore line, then tonight, little bit more muggy. notice the difference, maybe kick the ac back on if you turned it off last night. upper 60s, and some of the warm spots to low 60s in the suburbs, then monday, again, another hot day, around 90 degrees for a lot of the inland locations, the exception at the shore. so, for today, lot every sunday shine, hot, not quite as humid, 09 degrees for the

afternoon high temperature, more humid tonight, mostly clear, drop to 66, for the sit, little cooler in the suburbs here is the extended forecast, could be day one of heatwave. barely making a heatwave. 09 degrees, we can handle this, humidity levels not that high. notice, difference, though, on monday. slightly more humid. tuesday we have the shower storm chance. if you don't like the heat, wait until wednesday. humidity gone, temperatures actually drop below average wednesday, thursday, highs in the low 80s, maybe shower or two on thursday, rahel, back to you. >> not bad way to start the summer, justin, thank you. president obama and his family are spending the weekend in california at the yosemite national park, 4 million people visit yosemite each year. the president talked about the need to protect and preserve our parks. to that end, he says, climate change is posing a huge challenge. >> make no mistake, climate change is no longer just a threat, it is already reality. >> the first family's visit is in celebration of the 100

>> here at the corner of oregon and south columbus boulevard, where police marine units, are busy working, trying to determine whether or not someone was possibly eject from the a vehicle that was just pulled from the water here at the delaware river, again very active scene, less than hour, hour and a half ago, police pulled silver rendezvous suv from the delaware river, now, searching the water. captain mark over wide spoke to reporters, just before 6:00 a.m., he told us, police say they got the call just before 4:00 a.m., that crossed columbus boulevard, ripped the gate at the packer avenue shipyard, crashed into the delaware river, with a splash. police fire and marine unit arrived on the scene, immediately, sent in divers, to search the merky water, they found the vehicle within minutes, and by five amused tow truck to pull that suv

from the water. the vehicle lighterly broke apart as rescue workers pulled it from that water which is about 20 feet deep. as you can see, from the video that we've shown you, the front of the vehicle, severely damaged, front bumper ripped off, windshield smashed, three tires missing, but police did not finds a body, here is captain overwise, as far as what they know thus far. >> saw high rate of speed, crashed through the gate, and they didn't see the vehicle after that. they exited their vehicle, the witnesses did, and went, and look for the vehicle, could not see it. so they called 911. >> as you can see, these police marine unit are still working, rescue workers looked inside the vehicle, again, did not finds a body there,

currently searching to see if someone was inside. now, as you can see from that video, we showed you, the front windshield of that suv, was severely damaged, so, captain overwise says it is possible that someone, or someone were eject the, eject from the that vehicle, so they're currently searching right now, we will keep you updated, to determine whether or not someone was inside that vehicle, again, silver suv pulled from the delaware river, earlier this morning, no body currently located but marine unit currently located. live in south philadelphia, cherri gregg, "kyw news radio" for cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> cherry, thank you, we will check in with you with a updates. >> investigators are trying to figure out what caused a van crash that left six people dead, in virginia. it happened early saturday morning, on i-95, and bowling green, about 40 miles from richmond. van caring 16 people when it

rolled over several times. police say the victims were thrown from the van. the other passengers were also hurt. >> and, a scary moment, for pilot after his small plane crashes off the coast of rhode island. now, the pilot was the only person on board, and thinks that several lifeguards quick actions he was rescued, one eyewitness boating at the time describes the moment he saw the plane, which almost hit his boat. >> notice ahead of me there was a plane, and the plane was casino of coming at me, and i looked and i said oh, that must be remote control plane. >> he ended up crashing, maybe, 100 feet off the beach. >> now, if this happened just one day earlier, the pilot may not have been as lucky, the crash was on the first day of the season that lifeguards were on duty, fortunately we can report the pilot expected to be okay. marine biologists are performing necropsy to see giant whale found beach on the delaware shore line. they found 33-foot long, 33,000-pound hump back whale, just north of bethany beach.

thirty-two bulldozer to move the giant mammal. animal rights activist george bengal has died. the pennsylvania spca's director of humane law enforcement, before, that waist philadelphia police officer and a viet nam veteran. just last month he was honored by the pspca after revealing he had terminal cancer. bengal died yesterday surrounded by his family, he was 69. >> iraqi forces are reporting more success if their fight to free the city of felusia from islamic state control. us and iraqi war planes targeting snipers and other isis positions, and iraqi troops are now in control of the city's hospital. the offensive started friday, after weeks of fighting just outside the city. felusia was one of the islamic states last remaining strong holds wells of baghdad. thousands came out to philadelphia for june -- oldest known celebration commemorating the ends of slavery in the u.s. >> ♪
