>> good evening, i'm reena nina. summer officially begins monday way dangerous heatwave baking the south west. temperatures are expected to top 120 degrees in some places. 116 in phoenix, arizona, where excessive heat killed 84 people last year. health officials are warning people to stay hydrated and if possible indoors. extreme heat is adding to the struggle to contain several major wildfires in the west. near santa barbara, california, a wildfire continues to threaten about 270 homes. fire officials are hoping the winds don't get stronger overnight in central new mexico a huge fire has destroyed at least two dozen homes. the national guard has been called in to prevent looting in evacuated neighborhoods. >> meteorologist pamela gardner from our boston station wbz has more on the extreme heat. >> record heat will continue for monday and tuesday. notice how the jet stream is all the way up into canada where they are dealing with severe weather and also for the northern plain states.

while in the desert southwest, unfortunately, the heat dome will continue to bring triple digit temperatures as well as wildfire threats. red flag warnings are out around los angeles until tuesday due to the gusty winds, the low relative humidity levels and those triple digit temperatures. so the scorching southwest, here we go. heat advisories are out, excessive heat warnings out from las vegas, to l.a., phoenix andiuma where we expect temperatures to be in the triple digits. forecast highs monday, las vegas 109, tuesday, 108, 122 for palm springs. 124 degrees expected for death valley, kal cam on monday with 123 degrees expected on tuesday. one record that will actually still stand though is going to be the all time death valley record of 134 degrees. that was set back in july of 1913. >> pamela gardner, thanks. >> it's been one week since 49 people were killed in an orlando nightclub. 21 victims remain in the

no clue what was happening on the other side of her fence. >> normal kids, playing, riding bikes. >> no, very sheltered. mainly i would see them in the front yard working a small garden in the front. they would sit down and work the garden. >> investigators came to the home on thursday and found 12 amish girls ranging in age from six months to 18 years old living with kaplan. he was arrested and faces charges including statutory sexual assault. the oldest victim told police she is the mother of a three year old and six month old both fathered by kaplan. kaplan told police he began having sex with her when she was 14. the girl's parents daniel and savilla stolts fus told investigators they gave their daughter to cap dan as payment for a loan and daniel sotle fus says he thought it would be legal after doing research online. the parents are also under arrest. the girls are now in the state's custodies and lancaster county, home to a large amish community,
