the city after more than half a century of devastating losses. the fans return the love in rowdy fashion. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york, good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. this morning, the city of cleveland is celebrating something it has not had in 52 years -- a major sports title. the cleveland cavaliers are the nba champs after defeating the golden state warriors 93-89 in the seventh and decisive game of the nba final, capping a historic comeback. >> for us to be able to end this, end this drought, our fans deserve it. they drerve it. it was for him. >> lebron james made good on his promise to bring a championship to his hometown, playing in his sixth straight finals. james led with 27 points as

cleveland captured the first championship in history. the cavs became the first team in the nba finals to come back from a 3-1 deficit -- >> james! >> reporter: james, the unanimous series mvp, said it was an important personal victory, slow. >> i've done nothing but be true to the game. give everything i got to the game. put my heart, my blood, sweat, tears to the game. people still want to doubted what i'm capable of doing. so that was a little icing on the cake for myself. season to remember so that we come back strong. that's all you can do. >> reporter: president obama sent his congrats to the cavaliers tweeting "what a game" and "what a series for the cavs. happy to see king james bring it home for cleveland." coming up on "cbs this morning," of course, more on cleveland's grueling sports championship drought. later today, we may learn more it what motivated the orlando gunman. attorney general loretta lynch says that a key goal of the investigation is to determine just why the gunman targeted the gay community. last night, the victims were remembered during an emotional candlelight vigil. ♪ >> reporter: as the sun set over orlando on sunday, thousands of people brightened the night with a candle light vigil, honoring the victim of the worst shooting in recent u.s. history. >> this is going to change orlando dramatically. people aren't going to look at

they're gay, they're black, they're white. we're all one. >> reporter: crowds arrived to a popular park by the busloads. then they marched together under the rainbow flag as a show of support for the lgbt community. at 2:0 a.m., church bells rang 49 times throughout the city for the 49 people killed exactly one week before inside a gay nightclub. gilbert laguna lost his close friend, frank hernandez -- >> if he were here, and i know he's looking from up above, he would be overwhelmed. >> reporter: as the community moves forward, so does the investigation. u.s. attorney general loretta lynch says on monday the department of justice will release a partial transcript of the gunman's conversations with negotiators from inside the nightclub. >> we do want to be as transpointer as possible in the investigation so peek can see what he was thinking and doing, but the information we're looking at. >> reporter: lynch plans to meet with survivors and investigators

on tuesday in orlando, a city still hurting but hopeful. cbs news, orlando, florida. in the wake of the orlando shooting, the senate is scheduled it hold four votes on gun control today. the last time the senate vote on gun legislation was in december. that was after the san bernardino shooting. all the proposals were defeated then. julianna goldman reports on the politics of today's votes. i'm dealing with the nra, and i'm talking to them about the whole concept of terror watch list. >> reporter: as the senate prepares to vote on several gun control measures, donald trump said he'd like to see people on the no fly and terrorist watch lists prevented from purchasing guns. that put him at odds with the national rifle association. and trump was less clear if his position is set in stone. >> i understand exactly what they're saying. a lot of people are on the list that really maybe shouldn't be on the list. their rights are being taken

away. >> reporter: republicans and democrats are offering competing bills to address the so-called terror gap and expand background checks. coming in an election year, they're expected to fail. >> what we're doing with this debate on the hill, it's like they're trying to stop a freight train with a piece of kleenex. >> reporter: the head of the nra downplayed a rift with trump and said the measures won't prevent terrorist attacks. >> laws didn't stop them in boston or san bernardino where you had every type of gun control law you could have. >> we should be making our gun laws less full of swiss cheese holes so future killings don't happen. >> i've been so angry. >> reporter: democratic senator chris murphy, who led a 15-hour filibuster over guns last week, acknowledged the uphill climb. >> what we know is ultimately the only way that you win this issue is by building a political infrastructure around the country that rivals that of the gun lobby. >> donald trump also weighed in on the concept of profiling. on "face the nation," john

dickerson asked trump if he was open to having law enforcement single out muslims in america. >> you like to speak plainly. in december, we talked and you said there possibly should be profiling. as a bottom line, are you talking about increasing profiling of muslims in america? >> i think profiling is something that we'll have to start thinking about as a country. other countries do. it you look at israel and others, and they do it. they do it successfully. i hate the concept of profiling. but we have to start using common sense, and we have to use our heads. >> dickerson also asked trump if muslims should receive extra scrutiny when buying weapons and ammunitions. trump said, "i don't know about that." a record-breaking deadly heat wave continues from southern california to nevada. phoenix is expected to reach a high of 118 degrees. that's what it was yesterday, breaking a nearly 50-year-old

record. in los angeles, they're expected to hit 103. yesterday, near phoenix, a 28-year-old woman died after going mountain biking. her death apparently heat related. saturday, a 25-year-old man died of heat exposure while hiking. the excessive heat is making it difficult to fight numerous wildfires across three western states. one fire in new mexico has destroyed two dozen homes, burning more than 17,000 acres. local authorities declared a state of emergency this. and a wind-driven blaze near san diego burned thousands of acres in a matter of hours. dozens of residents in one ranching community were forced to evacuate. >> i went in, got the old lady, got the dogs out. i went in, looked out the back door, and it was a wall of flames. grabbed my last dog and jumped in the truck and took off. >> and a wind-driven fire near santa barbara threatens hundreds of homes. a freak accident took the life of a young actor.

markets will be closely watching the lead up to thursday's vote on whether britain remains in the european union. that could mean heavy trading and increased volatility. last week stocks on wall street lost ground across the board. the dow lost 190 points for the week. the s&p finished 24 points lower. the nasdaq dropped 94 points. iran is reportedly buying 100 airplanes from boeing. the deal is potentially worth billions to the u.s. aircraft maker. the agreement was announced by iran's state-run newspaper. it would mark the first major deal between iran and an american company since last year's nuclear deal. the purchase has to be approved by u.s. treasury authorities. apple will reportedly no longer provide funding or technology for the republican national convention because of controversial comments made by donald trump. president clint politico reports it was his comments about women and minorities that prompted the decision. apple had previously supported both parties' conventions:millions of ticketmaster customers are getting free ticket vouchers.
