rolled through yesterday afternoon, heavy rains, strong winds, combined to make it a storm to remember. and it wasn't just in the neighborhood. chopper three, flew over storm damage cape may county, the strong winds, flipped over small plane, at the cape may airport. the roof is gone at the wildwood public works garage. and the flour end teen family motel, wildwood, also has roof damage. >> take a look at this particular pure from wildwood. strong winds pick up small boat and carried it into the side of the greater wildwood yacht club. fortunately, no one was hurt, and no storms on the horizon for today, but new system will be heading our way. let's get first look at the forecast, with meteorologist, katie fehlinger live on the cbs-3 skydeck, katy? >> afternoon, brooke, actually real nice day that's unfolding now, little breezy granted, absolutely notice, that but the other thing you will notice, it is starting to feel a lot more comfortable outside, as dew points continue to drop off. nice bright sunshine, essentially region wide. started off on the muggy side there is was as the frontal

boundery was pulling away. rain's been out of here but waiting or the air mass to shift gears, go back into more comfort level for the area t has done that. storm scan3, totally empty, even zooming out once, twice, barely even cloud in the sky most locations, we are going to keep the sun around for the rest of the day, but take a look at some of the winds, seeing the winds crank right now, upward of 20 miles per hour at philadelphia international airport. straight up westerly winds flow there. generally speaking, it is west to northwest, depending on location, but again, it is something that you will absolutely notice here today. in the meantime, we switch gears, take a look at the exact same map of observations but now talking temperature, air temperature, hey, pretty seasonable for mid to late june day. mid 80s currently around most of the region, 80 lancaster, 71, the one and only oddball out, here with only high of rather a current temperature anyway of 71, but probably be stuck in the 70s the rest of the day, meanwhile today is a perfect excuse, to hit the pool, with the sunshine, granted little bit of breeze, it is turning more

comfortable. but it will be a nice afternoon, certainly, very summer like, and that uv index certainly a lot hire than it had been yesterday when the storms rolled through. 86 degrees, as we mention, for the expected hi, and coming up we will be discussing some more wet weather issues, in this forecast, but even though there are storms in the forecast for tomorrow, there is a really nice trade-off that comes along with it, and we will have all of the details on that if your full forecast little later in the show, brooke, jim, into you. >> thanks, katie. two men and woman from pennsylvania face charges after they were stopped trying to drive through the holland tunnel with loaded guns. inside their truck, police found two rivals, five handguns, and knives. police say they arrest the 50 year old john cran somebody and dion smith of zionsville, also 29 jerold kimberly of late end. -- lehigh end. kramsey's daughter died of heroin overdose, told police they were going to brooklyn to rescue a teen girl with drugs. >> families forced out of

their home, fortunately everyone able to escape, as justin finch explains could have been much worse. >> up in flames, it was bad, it was bad. >> this image sent to us from "eyewitness news" viewer capturing flames raging from the windows of chester corner apartment building overnight. >> multiple entrapment. >> chester firefighters pulled up to west third and yarnell streets in near minutes, arriving as tenants were scrambling to get each other out from a three-story building, daniel recalls waking to up fire then quickly helping neighbors and their children he escape. >> could have been worse. i was in a deep sleep. like i say, i heard people screaming out front. and i just wasn't paying it no mind until i heard get out, the apartment is on fire. >> most challenging escape those though lived on the second and third floor, forced to come down this fire escape in single file, as building burned beside them. that's how one family was able to make it out.

>> that family of five, two adult, and three young children, were helped down by firefighters, and then taken to crozer-chester for evaluation. but where was the warning? >> did you hear any alarms go off? >> no, no alarms in there. >> they have smoke alarms in here. they were just probably old. >> no major injuries reported and the fire was out by about 2:00 a.m., officials note working smoke alarms would have been a big help. >> if it had smoke alarms, obviously, somebody would have been alerted sooner, and very good possibility that the fire would not have extended as far as it did. >> in chester, justin finch, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". police are investigating an altercation in the city's mayfair section it, ended with a car crash, authorities say, two groups of girls got into a fight last night at lincoln football field. at least one of the groups from saint hubert's high school, they say. now, during the fight, a man

reportedly showed a handgun. investigators say, after the altercation, one of the girls, from saint hubert's, ran home to get her dad. they went looking for the other group. officers say, they then spot add man that looked similar in a pick-up truck, chased him, and shot at him. both cars crashed, and police took two people into custody. former speaker of the house dennis has kerr reports to prison this afternoon to start his sentence in a hush money case. the 74 year old hastier pleaded guilty last year from a wheelchair, prosecutors say he abused four boys when he coached high school wrestling, then tried to pay off one of them. the statute of limitations ran out on abuse charges, nations longest serving speaker faces 15 months at prison in southwestern minnesota. >> day after hillary clinton attacked donald trump's business skills, the presumptive republican nominee is hitting back at his democratic rival in a speech of his own. kenneth craig in new york city outside the trump event. >> reporter: donald trump sounded off on hillary

>> jellyfish, don't worry, only shows up in rivers and bay, but the jellyfish carry painful and sometimes dangerous sting. extreme cases it can lead to kidney failure. a marine biologist captured some of the jellyfish hoping to figure out how fast their population is expanding. meanwhile, there is has been another alligator attack. >> this time 58 year old plan was attacked by a gator in ocala florida, man was checking on his horses, because they were acting restless, when he was attacked. emergency crews found him on the grounds, about 5 feet away from the alligator, which measured 8 feet long. the man has injuries to his leg, but, is expected to recover. now there is happened about an hour away from the sad story, where little boy was killed by gator outside of disney

resort. >> pope francis, invites refuse geez, to join him before general audience during his weekly catechism lesson at the vatican. dozen refugees were with pope francis on the steps of saint peters basilica to aid the pope in sharing his message. the europe should welcome more imigrants. the pope urged all to have greater understanding for the refugees, as they've suffered much, he also told the audience, they're our brother. >> well, if you go to times square, you can now avoid the costume characters who often fill us cash for pictures and perform and cents, spiderman, elmo, others, have been arrested recently for fighting aggressive panhandling. man calling himself the hug guy was arrested for punching a tourist, sometimes square has now designated new zones where pedestrians can relax, but there is also specific areas where the characters compose and perform. oh, my, all right, how about this? big honor for local hospital this noon. the children's hospital of philadelphia, is the second best in the country.

pretty nasty ones, too, in fact, mentioned earlier, national weather service going out to survey the damage left behind from what had been doppler indicated tornado but let's go ahead and take you through statistics here, talk about tornado activity, a loft times it feels like we don't usually see tornados in part of the country, but in fact, it is somewhat typical, the whole state, not just the delaware vale, on average upward 16 tornados per year, in new jersey investigate egg that damage, two tornados are the average at least for the year. so it wouldn't be completely out of the question, if it does turn out that we did have that, however, again, waiting on the national weather service to assess the damage to see what happened, regardless very winds driven system yesterday. cape may ended up with hurricane force wind gusts up to 80 miles per hour, dewey beach up at five; the list goes on, short list obviously, of some of the storm winds gust that is rumbled through here. meanwhile, that front that brought all of the storms now nice distant memory, still

breezy in the wake of that front granted. but nice afternoon. if you have yet to step outside, go ahead, do so, feels great right now, just make sure you hold on to your hates, it is somewhat blustery. tracking new disturbance, the story for tomorrow, so pretty nasty thunderstorms already errupted through illinois, indianna, since this morning, here is your actual center of low pressure, that will be nudging southeast, and headed our way. it will sort of move southeast, make bit of left-hand turn, cross right through the mid-atlantic region once more there is isn't for tomorrow, rather tomorrow, severe weather threat is right back in effect. and we will be sitting in a slight risk as a result for additional strong or severe thunderstorms to rumble through, further north you go, the threat starts to lighten up little bit. everyone fair game this time for not just heavy downpours, but gusty winds, possibility of hail, and we've got to throw in frequent cloud to grounds lightning, keep close watch on the radar, remember, you can always catch in with us on line are the. bs philly.com.

meanwhile, talk dew points, lower the dew point gets, the dryer the air mass, more comfortable it will be. and you've got dew point currently in allentown, the poconos, where you are in the 40's, so very, very dry air settling in. but it is still up at 70 in wildwood. so, we're still watching that transition take place, definitely feels heck of a lot better here in philadelphia than it did this morning, dew point well into the six 60s, now you're in the low 50's, so the transition is taking place here. even right before your very eyes, though, see how the clouds are moving through, outside beach patrol headquarters, cation g some shadows on the beach-goers here, but regardless, that sun is shining, basically, everywhere, so do you want to latter up on the sun block if you plan to go outside maybe take a dip in the pool. meanwhile, the union have a home match here tonight taking on chicago, we see the sun continue to shine for kick-off. 81 degrees, nice and warm, and seasonable for that matter noun chester just down i-95. meanwhile here in philadelphia, we expect to top off around 86 degrees or so, so very typical, late june day for us, looking ahead to tomorrow, though, that's when the next round of the rain and
