good morning everyone, i'm jim donovan. >> i'm brooke thomas, katie and path are keeping an eye on things this morning. >> keep an eye on the sixers draft, i'm here for traffic. >> sixers draft questions for you. >> i can answer that for you. >> do like a hybrid? >> he's a renaissance,. >> i'll be here all morning, traffic wise, things little easier ton a friday. >> typically. >> and looks like the weather will be little easier on us here today. so, little bit of transition to take place here, still tracking couple of left over showers right now, most notable across southern new jersey, portions of delaware as the front continues to drop south. with that said, we've got variety pack of different conditions going on, where you're completely clear, the further nor you go. up in the poconos, the lehigh valley, off to actually somewhat of a refreshing start right now, because dew points have started to drop for you. the skies are nice and clear, but as you travel, mile by mile, south on that northeast extension, you start to notice that things are getting more and more muggy outside, and do you obviously still have some damp roadways to dodge here across some spots in southern

new jersey, looking at the area temperatures, even temperatures, dew point specially, telling the story here. a lot keel up in the mountains than it is even here in the city, let alone across even the pinelands, in the 70s there. so with some of that comfort starting to take grip, temperatures have also had a chance to drop offer a bit more readily under the clear sky, mt. holly, 69 degrees at this hour, quakertown checks in at 61, mid 60s through pottstown, doylestown, day progresses specially south of philadelphia, there will likely still be left over sprinkle, but skies gradually going to start clearing for more and more sunshine, we hit mid 80s, as the day progresses, and 84 where we expect to officially top off today. so pretty seasonable day, pat, still, just trying to get away in this disturbance. >> let me throw down a friday like meisha did. >> like a clear for it oring? >> i won't go that far, i won't quite go there. looking at the roadways, the ad whirl wilson boulevard, one lane block, you can see, going this direction right here, eastbound, one lane block, that's because after problem, with a gas main repair on

route 38, between route 130 and route 70. three lanes are block there, until tonight. now, 9:00 tonight, earlier, it was supposed to be about 6:00 a.m., when they reopened this thing, but now it will last all day long, that means, major delays in this area, so, again, admiral wilson boulevard eastbound, going toward route 38, with three lanes blocked right there. schuylkill looking good, you head toward the city. everything looking decent so far so good this morning. also, 95 southbound, it will start to heat up little bit. but you won't have to worry about that until about 6:00 a.m. so, things good here. then about 15 minute ago, they reopened the 95 northbound ramp, so, that is a good thing, as well. taking a look at some maps, downed tree, out in west chester, route 322 pottstown pike all lanes block, construction, 322, got couple of lanes block there. brooke, over to you. >> thanks, pat. we are waking up to the surprising news that britain is leaving the european union and the fall-out has been swift. >> overnight financial markets

say brexi could trigger more political instability. live report from london coming up in the next half hour. >> new face of the sixers franchise after the team took ben simmons with top overall pick in the nba draft last night. >> we'll get to meet the newest sixer when simmons comes to town. pat here is a look at the draft night excitement. >> i'm back, here i am, not all about traffic, right? so we know there wasn't much suspense going into the draft with just about everyone expecting the sixers to take ben simmons. but now, it is official. >> with the first pick in the 2016nba draft the philadelphia 76ers select ben simmons. >> so, add another big man to the team. the 6-foot ten, 240 pounds simmons, joins a crowded front court with squawl e-a-g-l-e-s okafor, joel embiid. sixers fans at the draft, certainly seemed happy with the selection, as they should be. eyewitness sports reporter lesley van arsdall caught up with the newest sixer shortly after he was drafted.

>> ben simmons says he loves what he's heard about the philadelphia fans, and their passion, and he's proud to be a sixer. >> happy, excited, relieved, a lot of different emotions have kind of hit me, you know, once it happened. >> tonight, here, you've had this dream playing in the nba since five years old? >> since five. i wrote on a piece of paper i wanted to play in the nba. i still have the paper i kept it to this day and it is amazing. >> to do it at such a young age. can you believe it? >> not really, no. i think once i leave today and i'm with my family and i can sing it in, it will really hit me. >> can you explain for those who don't know, you have kind of unique tie to coach brett brown. do you want to explain little bit? >> yes, brett coached my dad back in the day in australia, he also coached the national team. so we had that connection, well, he's known me since i was born he's known me, then i've had a few conversation was him when i was about 14 years old, back in australia, which is pretty special.

the fans went nut at the big draft party at eakin's oval. cheers, music and confetti greeted the name of ben simmons, and sixers fans predict big things from the new big man in town. >> i'm loving it, loving it, i think this is a good decision. i love it. >> ben simmons, yo, let's go. >> going to get bigger and better, real poised, like him on the podium, looks real nice. looks philly. >> he looks philly. get even more details on the newest member of your philadelphia 76ers, and the rest of the of the team's draft choice, cbsphilly.com. in other news this morning, police searching for the gunman who opened fire on another man sitting in a car in east germantown. the 29 year old victim was sitting in his pick-up truck on the 6300 block every magnolia street when a gunman walk up and fired at least eight shots into the vehicle. the victim was hit three times in his left side, now in stable condition at einstein.

stray bullet also hit a nearby house. >> authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding that shooting that left a four year old girl dead. >> just horrible. she was shot in the face yesterday in north philadelphia. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch is live outside police headquarters with the latest, good morning, justin. >> reporter: jim, brooke, good morning. this morning, the toddler's neighbors are deep in grief as police work to understanded how that girl got near a gun in the first place, and to determine once and for all if this was all just a tragic accident. let's take you now to video, "eyewitness news", on scene yesterday, as a female family member was seen leaving police headquarters, we're told homicide detective spent hours interviewing people yesterday, include that child's mother. just after 12:30 p.m., thursday, came reports of a four year old girl, shot in the head, inside her north philly home on the 1800 block of north 20th street. sources tell us, she was home with her three year old sister, and her mother, at the time that gun went off.

and then, eyewitnesses tell us, that the mom ran frantically outside, with the baby in her arms, bleeding, and looking for help. the girl was taken to hahnemann, with a gunshot to her right eye, and she did die there, short time later. as the investigation wears on, neighbors are now coming to grips with this untimely death. >> when there is a kid on hand on weapon, whether it is belong to go apparent, doesn't belong to parent, regardless of the fact, simple fact, close myfoxphilly.com i am it toy children is bad. >> everybody loved her. you know, admired her, everything, everybody's granddaughter. >> and back live, we are told an update on this case could come later today. we are told that the gun has been recovered, as well, it is a 40 caliber glock, and it is a semiautomatic weapon. we are live here outside police headquarters. i'm justin finch, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". jim, brooke, back into you. >> thank you, justin. >> sad story.

a kira murray's funeral will take place this morning, 18 year old west catholic grad shot and killed in the orlando night club shooting earlier this month. murray was a stands-out basketball star who scored 1,000 points on her team. a viewing will be held at monumental baptist church at 50th and locust this morning, then funeral services start at 10:00. well, developing now, burning out of control. raging wild fires destroy dozens of homes out west overnight. >> and see what even surprised firefighters trying to control those flames. >> plus, a change of heart from chaka fattah. when the convicted congressman will leave officer, and the plans to replace him. >> also, after some heavy rain last night, we could see few more showers today. katie will show you when you might need an umbrella. stay with us.

"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo is live in the cbs-3 sat center with the latest at the station, jan? >> reporter: brooke, the number of homes destroyed by this wild fire continues to grow this morning. california officials now say, more than 80 homes have been consumed by the flames. this, as crews work fire leslie to contain the fire.

>> i feel the heat out here. it is hot. >> flames engulfed dozens of homes, and forced hundreds of evacuations in california thursday, the fire department there, live stream the chaos on facebook. >> i've never been in a wild empire where i've seen so many homes burn. >> the area around lake isabella hardest hit, wild fires now destroyed more than 80 homes there, consumed in the matter of hours. crews on the ground, and in the air, frantically tried to get people out and get the flames under control. >> we didn't know it was going to come this way until it hit over-the-hill, tan just went so fast. >> morgan rivers watched as her childhood home was destroyed. >> property, my grandparent home, i grew up in that house, and it is not even the things inside of it. something can't replace. >> some of her neighbors refuse to leave. >> live nearby? >> i live right there. >> are you ready to evacuate? >> no. >> no? >> sir, sir, get in my car.

>> meanwhile, sheila pratt is desperately searching for her 86 year old mother, celebrating a birthday before the fire spread. >> came back with a birthday cake to find that there is fire all around it, and we grabbed what we could. >> the fire has burned nearly four square miles, about 1,000 homes under threat. flames have been fueled by heat in the upper 90s, and low humidity. >> often times fires slow down at night. you can see with the winds, very dry wind, there is no slowing down at this time. this fire is moving, it is fierce, rapid, people need to be aware, cognizant, evacuate at a moment's notice. >> and at this point, brooke, fire officials do not know how this fire was started. reporting live in the sat center this morning, jan carabeo, cbs-3, "eyewitness news", back into you. >> thanks so much, jan. right now, let's get the latest on our forecast here at home. katie? >> guys, we did have some wet wet their rolled through obviously, and there is still some to dodge at this hour. as our latest disturbance continues to pull away off to the south.

so you know little bit of transition type of day for us here. you're going to find some differing conditions, depending on location, but we start things off by quick peak out on storm scan3, at the wider zoom, see there are still some lingering showers, here, locally, but the main front itself is still just migrating south, as we speak, so, what we're going to find throughout the day here is that things are gradually starting to clear with time, humidity gradually starting to lower with time, and eventually high pressure will take the place of this. this is all the way strung out back into the central planes, so, it is a disturbance, basically, slicing through from north to south, some of the humidity and the heat that's off to the south. meanwhile, here's what's going to ends up taking place, so we watch the area of low pressure associated with this sort of moving basically due east. notice because we're still so close to it, may still finds additional showers, primarily this will happen south of philadelphia, but if you see few damp roadways out there, don't be shock by it, although this is far from a wash-out after day. then by later tonight high pressure see that starting to

nudge its way in, will officially take over our forecast for the weekend which bodes very well, outdoor plans, and as high pressure set it is self through the course of the weekends, nothing but sunshine, temperatures, mid to upper 80s, nice summer weekend coming up. clearly see something waiting in the wings here, our next frontal boundery that moves in by the early part of next week. meantime, we are still sitting in at least general risk for some thunderstorms today, basically through the western third of our region, so don't be shocked, again, even if you see a shower, that might be accompanied byrum recall every thunder, as well, not talking any kind of major severe weather threats today, rather, just sort of caution, in case we ends up with the situation where we end one this stray sprinkle oren grade rumble every thunder. otherwise, partly to mostly sin, further north you go, the more sun you'll see, 84 the expected hi, drop it back down to the mid 60s tonight, still couple of cloudsment looking forward in the seven day, this is good stuff. eighty-six, 87, both saturday, sunday, respectfully, in the sunshine, by monday, tuesday, though, start to see the humidity ramp back up, and the

potential for thunderstorms return, pat, over to you. >> being look good for the union match tomorrow. >> indeed. >> i like it, i like it, this isn't looking good, once again, admiral wilson boulevard, one lane block headed eastbound, that's because after lingering gas main repair, that has been causing havoc really for about a week or so. and that is at route 38 eastbound, and you see it right here, route 38 eastbound between route 130 and route 70, three lanes blocked until 9:00 tonight. they were supposed to get this thing moving and have it reopen by this morning's rush hour, it is not going to happen. now it will be an all day affair, as they continue to fix this. so some major delays in that area. some good news, the vine expressway was not closed overnight. so things are looking very smooth headed in and out of the city on the vine. also, the boulevard, as you head toward the schuylkill expressway, also, a thumbs-up there. the taillights are headed southbound on the schuylkill expressway, but you know, as we get toward 6:00, 6:30, this starts to ramp up little bit here. construction down in delaware, 495, edgemore road, off and onramps closed until next
