"eyewitness news" reporter trang do talks and shows us how the community is supporting officer dorman and his family. >> reporter: george dorman got the phone call no parent of an officer ever wants to receive, friday morning his son chris, a full croft police officer was shot seven times including once in the face.

miraculously he survived. >> he is doing well, as well as can be expected. >> he was shot seven times. he is pulling through good. >> reporter: now george dorman's youngest child his baby is being called a delco legend. hundreds of the community members, fellow officers and first responders came out to a vigil to pray for his swift recovery. >> this is way community comes together, their police officers, their brothers, sisters. >> reporter: and thanks to face time chris saw outpouring of love at the vigil right from his hospital bed. chris's close friend, still call him dorman still grateful that the fun loving goofy friend is still with us. >> time to get back out there. >> he loves his job. he supported folcroft more than anybody. >> reporter: now his family is asking that the community continue to support their hometown hero on his road to

one fire fighter suffered minor injuries battling the flames. >> this fire brought four apparatus and 50 fire fighters to the scene. we had one injured and currently in the hospital that we expect to be treated and released. >> causes under investigation. fire in germantown sent one person to the hospital. happened on the 5800 block of tacoma street around 5:00. it took crews an hour to control the fire, not clear, however what caused it. fire fighters are investigating what caused a house fire in delaware county. flames caused damage to the home on the 2700 block of belmont avenue in haverford township. much of the damage on the second floor no one hurt here. there were also no injuries after a car fire on the 600 block of west wyoming avenue in the philadelphia juniata a park section. no details on how that started. wild fire in central california claimed lives of two people, elderly couple was found in the charred remains

of their mobile home in the community of lake isabela. fire scorched 56 square miles and destroyed 150 homes. california governor jerry brown has declared a state of emergency. officials say 2500 more homes remain in the path of those flames. president obama has approved federal aid for west virginia after some of the worst flooding the state has seen in decade. twenty-four people died and many more are homeless. the as wendy gilette reports tens of thousands are still in the dark as communities began a lengthy clean up. police and fire crews are going door to door looking for a survivors after floods roared through green briar county west virginia. water has over taken many roads, dozens of streets are closed. the floods began thursday following heavy rains the at least 9 inches in some area. steve le fountain is back in

>> good to be out here on the sky deck. some days you do not want to be out here but today is not bad, i could sit out here all morning long. behind me beautiful skies there, cannot even find a cloud in the sky around philadelphia. still comfortable. temperatures holding out in the 60's but we will get that wrapped warm up with strong late june sunshine. sixty-nine in philadelphia. seventy-one in wilmington delaware we are up to 07 in wildwood. light breeze right now all across the region. so it is a nice start to the day but not much breeze through the afternoon hours. we will make it pretty hot in the inland spots and again even though humidity levels are on the low side gets uncomfortable. seven in quakertown. sixty-six in doylestown at this hour. everybody well in the 80's with the exception down toward the shore. dew point temperatures which tells us how much humidity in the air is creeping up around philadelphia. right around 60 degrees. sixty-one. indicating a somewhat humid air mass. if you are the in the 60's you are feeling good.

the second leg of the race, it began with a 1 mile swim at the schuylkill, and now a lot of those folks are now on their bikes and they are racing, down mlk drive, coming around the corner and they are participating in a 25-mile bike ride. that is over, guess what they will run 6 miles, why would you do something like this. i'm here live with reid, hi, come on in read, read harris, you to this last year and this year you did the swim only. >> yes. >> did you realize that this is like a wild day or what. >> it is an awesome day. i did the full event as you said last year. this year i partnered with two employees to do relay, olympic, i did sprint last year. it is an amazing event for a great cause. >> reporter: i want to move out of the way and let us show you there is a lot of security. you can see medical vehicle right behind that tree there.

they are moving along. we have had somebody wipe out on the bike and had to get escorted out. there was a lot of folks in canoes, to make sure that folks did in the wipe out in the water as well. reid, what did you do to stay safe in that water. i understand visibility was not that great. >> the course was very clearly mark. there were a lot of staff in canoes and kyacks directing you along the course. it was actually really easy, swam up and then back down. theres want any major problems in the swim. i thought it went well. >> reporter: they had precautions here. they had emergency medical folks all around but this is a lot of fun. you look like you are in great shape. people do this to stay in shape. >> j and j is my employer and we're the title sponsor to event. it brings all of our employees together. almost 650 employees together for an event to raise a half

homes in the path of the blaze. fred and elaine roach are some of the lucky ones so far. their home survived. it is all black all around us, on both side of our town and we're very fortunate that our half didn't burn. >> reporter: this is largest fire burning in california right now. fire officials say that there is zero containment. daniel nottingham for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". tough to see, well, two remaining rail unions negotiating with new jersey transit has reached a tentative agreement but not clear when unions will vote on the deal. united transportation local 60 and brotherhood of locomotive engineers hammered out the agreement yesterday. nine other unions reached deals last march. new jersey transit is country's third largest commuter railroad. local veterans served in the korean war were honor at penns landing. solemn ceremony took place at the korean war memorial, before it began 66 years ago

house. a few comfortable spots. but that will change. we are on our way to the mid to upper 80's. at the shore there will be a different story. nice sea breeze is where we will find some relief. lets go outside where we will see unhealthy air quality conditions around philadelphia and some of the suburbs. we have a light wind today. we will that strong late june sun that will heat up the ground so we will get poor air quality under these conditions. this will be unhealthy for sensitive groups. if you suffer from asthma, children may have a problem being outside for a long period of time. just keep that in mind today. obviously fuzz are heading outside wear sun block, sunnies very strong this time of the year. uv index running really high for today with mostly sunny skies. we're staying warm. mid 80's where we should be for on average but we will be above that today, tomorrow and on tuesday but they will drop below average for middle of the week. is there relief coming back and then temperatures creep

backup as we head toward the for the of the holiday weekend. this time of the year mid 80's as our average but mid to late july is where we will find our hottest period of the year where we average in the upper 80's. by end of the august we will being down to the mid 80's. it dose take time for air to warm up. we have a in lag time between sun's strongest rays which happens right now until we get our hottest average high which is late july. cold front out across chicago, eventually we will be bringing some showers and storms to our forecast starting later on monday night into tuesday. until then nice and dry, been like this all weekend long. if you like yesterday's weather we will like today. it is an exact repeat. nice breeze off the ocean. ocean water temperatures upper 60's to near 70. that keeps air temperatures in the 70's along jersey shore and delaware beaches. tomorrow warmer, more humid, near 80 degrees and tuesday bringing back some cloud, showers, maybe even a thunderstorm.

tuesday not the best beach day. don't cancel your plans if you have them because it doesn't look like a all day wash out. that is key in our forecast over the next 24 to 48 hours. we have easterly flow today really light, pleasant in the eastern new jersey and delaware but even land spots warm up. now tomorrow, notice wind flow. that will bring in the humidity. we will feel more uncomfortable on monday and feel steamy on tuesday with that southeasterly to south flow continuing. that will feel some showers and storms. it is monday night and tuesday. we will break out umbrellas again. today no problems. front moves east tomorrow, we will bring clouds in touring the afternoon. mostly staying dry. maybe poconos gets a shower in here monday afternoon. monday night we will see scattered showers and tuesday as well as actual cold front moves through. we could see a couple thunderstorms. not a big severe threat. once that is through we will see another drop in the jet stream canadian air spills
