storm scan is quiet for now but some summer storms could fire up later today and a few could pack a punch. if you have any outdoor plans that kick off july 4th weekend keep an eye on the sky. good afternoon i'm brooke thomas. i'm joe holden. jim donovan is off today. holiday weekend is off to a hot, humid i had start and soon a stormy one as well. meteorologist lauren casey is live on the cbs-3 sky deck to tell us when those storms could arrive, hi lauren.

>> feel like a sauna a out here in meets logical terms, of course. humidity has ramped backup feeling steamy and temperatures are warming up quickly. we are already up in the 80's at this lunch hour in philadelphia. 82 degrees right now. eighty's down the shore. in the lehigh valley after a cool start to the day your temperatures are climbing up in the 80's. dew points, tell us about that humid sticky factor and they are up dramatically over the last 24 hours, and you feel that when you step outside. comfort index this afternoon unfortunately we will be at the oppressive level. with that moisture, in combination with a frontal boundary that is approaching it will help fire off some storms, and quiet for now across the delaware valley, although storms trying to put themselves in parts of the southern delaware approaching bethenny beach ape light rainfall, also up wind in association with the cold front, showers developing across parts of the pennsylvania, those will continue to strengthen, and, increase in comfort, throughout the rest of the afternoon.

so, as storms arrive later today and this evening a few could be on the strong slight, potentially and isolated severe, much of the area in the slight risk of severe weather for later today. we will talk about the timing of the storms and all important, fourth of july weekend forecast. we will have your shore cast and fire works forecast coming up in a few. okay, lauren, thanks very much. we are getting ready to celebrate the fourth of july here in the cradle of liberty. >> and cradle will be rocking tonight with the spectacular fire works show. oural sand that hoff is live at penns landing with a front row seat and preview of the fess tifts. >> reporter: well, joe and brooke i'm told this year will be the largest fires works display since 2011. there has been some planning on both side of the river to make this happen but spectators also have to deal were looking sticks as well in getting down here. we will help you out with that but here's a hint, if you can see the sky from an area like this you are not in a bad spot. so you want to catch the show,

well, there will be several this fourth of july weekend. 7:00 p.m. fire works will fire off in the battleship new jersey tonight and at 9:00 philadelphia orchestra will take the stage across the river at penns landing. 9:30 turn to the skies for that fire works display. the same goes for tomorrow night with another 9:30 penns landing fire works show and then on independent day itself, at 10:00 p.m. a show and part that i will make its way to the parkway. parking garage will be opened but many offering discounts so make sure you look out for them. something else cool, we will give you a a little preview right here. >> ♪ >> if you aren't quite able to make it to the main stage area for musical performances or the fire works on monday our media partners at kyw news radio will be streaming the music hooked up with the air porn display. great for rooftop party or even watching from your car. consider that there will be street closures so officials are urging the use of public transportation, throughout the weekend and that is how ashley brown and her daughter charity

friday morning. it all, nearly 1,000 hospitality workers at trump taj mahal won't show up for work today what do we want. >> contract. >> reporter: she was supposed to stop and cook at 6:00 a.m. but instead he is on the the picket line. >> we will be out here as long as necessary until cot comes around. >> reporter: local 54 of unite here the main casino workers union say contract negotiations with taj mahal broke down around midnight. cooks, servicer, bell man and housekeepers decided to strike fighting for better wages and benefits. >> restoration of our benefits that was taken from frustrates m the bankruptcy court over 22 months. >> we are left with no nothing, no pay raise, no health insurance, no pension. >> reporter: taj mahal was only casino out of five unable to reach a new deal. on thursday the industry struck deals with bally's, caesars, harrah's and tropical can a union members are trying to recoup some concessions given to the casinos but financial conditions in atlantic city when they were

worse. >> we made concessions to keep the company afloat. so, ask the company why can't they help us now. >> reporter: despite the name taj mahal is owned by karl icon, who kept the casino afloat during its bankruptcy and took over in march. it is unclear if the taj mahal will cover the striking workers as managers or bring in temporary employees but casino tells us that gambling won't be impacted. the strike though does come as atlantic city head in the july e of the busiest times of the year. >> last time 54 went on strike was in 2004. at that time workers walk off the job for more than a month. in atlantic city, jan carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thanks, jan. we have asked for comment from the taj mahal but they have not responded. new jersey state police are investigating a deadly crash earlier this morning on i295, in burlington county. chopper three was over southbound 295, where a car went off the highway about 6:00 o'clock this morning. it happened just south of exit

number 56 in bordentown. one person was killed, the road was closed for a perfected of time during the morning rush. three people are in the hospital, and four people in police custody after a huge brawl outside of a lower bucks county parish carnival. police closed tulleytown saint michael the arc angel carnival after the fight. three people are being treated for stab wound. now the brawl started around 10:30 and involved dozens of people. eyewitnesses describe the chaos. >> so i had a group of kids that were like what do we do, what do we do. i say you hear gunshots hit the ground, go down. >> i saw, 30 or 40 pete run to the front of the fare and cops hops out and cops just started to say everybody get out of the fair, everybody get out of the fair. >> there is no word on the extent of those victims injuries, theres also no word what started the fight. we are getting a look at the ethnic chicken identified as organizers of the istanbul

airport bombing. this is ahmed, he was quick of weapons smuggling in 2008 and was, sentenced to 16 months in a swedish prison. turkish and swedish media and the chairman of the u.s. house committee on home land security says it was he who directed the three suicide bombers who allegedly carried out that istanbul attack. attorney general loretta lynch will receive whatever the fbi recommend on whether to bring charges related to the hillary clinton e-mails case. lynch admits that her meeting with president clinton did cast a shadow on the public perception of the investigation. government is probing hillary clinton's handling of e-mails while she was secretary of state. vice-president joe biden says that senator bernie sanders will endorse hillary clinton for president eventually. biden told npr he has talk to the vermont senator bernie sanders and says sanders will back clinton. sanders will not confirm that. he repeated his campaign and clinton's are working on coming together on various

issues. we are now down to 24 days before the start of the democratic national convention, at the wells fargo center right here in philadelphia a. donald trump is in denver to address the western conservative summit. the three day conference which starts today calls itself the largest gathering of conservatives outside of washington. meantime, cnn reports trump's list of potential running mates including new jersey governor chris christie and former house speaker newt gingrich. eight year-old boy is in critical condition after nearly drowning in the pool on one of the world's largest cruise ships. >> royal caribbean's anthem of the seas was heading from new jersey to bermuda when it change course because of the emergency. cbs correspondent don baylor picks up the story. >> reporter: rescue crews unloaded eight year-old boy from a nypd helicopter in the back of the waiting ambulance which then rush him to a nearby hospital. the boy from maryland was found unresponsive in a swimming pool on board the royal caribbean cruise liner anthem of the seas.

according to officials, he was without oxygen for about 18 minutes. >> this video shot on board the ship, shows new york fire and police boats swarming anthem of the seas along with the coastguard. >> very, very quickly they got him down to the second deck with the medical office is. >> reporter: fifty-four year-old mike richie is a passenger on board the ship. >> i think four police boats and two fire boats and couple helicopters all came out with various medical crews, just to take the kid, air lifted him off the ship. >> reporter: anthem of the seas, one of the largest cruise ships on the planet is no stranger to mishaps while in opened ocean. in february, the ship ran into a storm on its way to florida, battling 30-foot swells, and high winds, that left passengers shaken, and the ship damage. only weeks later, anthem of the seas was forced to cut a trip short after an out break of noro virus.

involving a car in self driving mode. brown was in the tesla model s sedan when he was killed in florida. tesla says the car's camera failed to distinguish between the white side of the turning tractor trailer and bright side and did not activate the car's brakes. rough landing for an american airlines flight from charlotte to west palm beach. passenger heard a loud boom and plane shook when it landed has night, and airline spokesmen says flight 2043 had a mechanical problem with its landing gear. more than 100 passengers were on board, and nobody was hurt. another ordeal in the air caught on cameras daniel a professional sky diver was doing a demonstration, jumping oklahoma city. his camera attached to his helmet was rolling when his parachute malfunctioned in midair. and the parachute opened, but he got tangled up in the cords. after struggling, he activated his reserve shoot and landed safely. pensacola police officer did not have to war a car window when there was a pup

any distress. officer was walking through a mall parking lot when he heard barking. he gave him the green light and smashed the window with his baton. owners were find $150. all right. many will be celebrating the fire works this weekend. >> thousands of people go to the emergency room this time of the year with fire works-related injuries. cbs news correspondent kenneth craig shows us, just how dangerous they can be. >> reporter: these explosions with mankins, are re-creations of actual accidents involving fire works. the consumer products safety commission built this set up in washington to show how dangerous they can be. the most severe accidents happened when people attempt to make their own fire works. the group says that there were 11 deaths and nearly 12,000 emergency room visits in 2015 because of fire works, the highest in 15 years. and anyone can be a victim. >> my surgery was removal of

okay. check out this, the latest out of this world images from nasa's hubbell space telescope. the image reveals interior of one of the most active galaxies in our local neighborhood. it is a small galaxy known as ng1569 about 11 million light years away. nasa experts say it is a hot bed of star formation pumping out stars more than 100 times faster then our own milkie way galaxy. >> a hot bed of star formation. >> yes. >> that is serious. >> are you a space girl and into outer space. >> of course. >> not weather here. >> it is just all science but weather is top science. >> yes. >> i thought it was 1568, it was 1569 the galaxy.

>> okay. >> it is so humid, as soon as you step outside, it feels like a big difference for early this morning out, stepping outside heading in the afternoon and evening you will notice that huge difference humidity definitely present. we will have a warm front and cold front coming through the area and both will trigger some showers and thunderstorms as we head in the second half of the day to day. but right now, some foggy conditions, not the best looking beach moment, right now, in margate but still some people out there. but hey, yeah, it doesn't look so great couple hours ago looking better because that is because we are seeing an influx of moisture at the surface creating hazy conditions and making it feel so super steamy. getting a live look at center city philadelphia not as hazy but you will note us those cumulus clouds growing upward sewing us that atmosphere is unstable and will produce some showers and storms later this afternoon. 82 degrees. with that humid factor feeling more like 86 degrees.

the it will be on the humid side this evening, for the penns landing fire works. we could see a lingering shower or storm possible. otherwise, mainly dry conditions. i think much of the activity will have diminish by then. tomorrow at penns landing for fire works, perfect. mostly clear, low humidity and watching out for isolated thunder shower possible on the fourth of july for fire works on the parkway, so maybe pack along that umbrella heading out on monday. temperatures right now we are warm, 80 degrees in ac after a cool start in the lehigh valley. we are up to 81 in allentown. starting in the the 50's in the poconos we are in the 70's and way elevated or our dew points and when that creeps over that 70-degree mark it feels florida-like. sauna-like and uncomfortable. the that is the trend for second half of the day to day. humid conditions. high temperature of 87 degrees with scattered storms breaking out in the second half of the afternoon and then tonight, clearing out quickly, a lingering shower early, otherwise we are going to see less humid conditions take over, and a low temperature of 67. storm scan three showing us

cloud certainly in place. we are starting to see storm activity now a parts of the southern delaware at this point but a little thunderstorm overhead fenwick island and bethenny beach. not a great time to head out to the beach. also company convex flaring up north and west of the city toward poconos. pin head showers. those will continue to grow in coverage and intensity. we are dealing with two weather systems. cold front up wind and with this area of low pressure off the coast continues to pull in moisture for us, helping to kind of moisten up the atmosphere and destabilize the atmosphere. future weather showing us what is in store in the afternoon hours. scattered storms, moving across the area from west to east and some could be stronger, even isolated severe, main threat will be some strong gusty wind and possibility of hail but as we head in the 10:00 o'clock hour most of that activity has quieted down and then by midnight, no problems, and nice ape dry. then your shore cast, today is day to watch with those scattered storms in the forecast, saturday and sunday looking absolutely beautiful,
