north of the city, in bucks and montgomery county, lehigh valley but bulk of the rain just to the south and west near baltimore washington area we are moving in cecil county maryland and northeast maryland, perryville getting into steady rain. give it until 7:00 we will see heavier showers start to build in. this will impact some fire works festivities across the region later tonight. most of the this weekend staying dry. so, overall not a bad holiday weekend. flash flood watch in effect kicking off at midnight tonight for majority of the region exception with the lehigh valley and poconos. this zone has best shot to see locally heavy showers, maybe a few thunderstorms rolling in mainly after midnight tonight. here's set up, scattered showers maybe a thunderstorm with the heavier rain arriving between 3:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. tuesday morning. the general amounts half inch to over an inch but if you are stuck under a heavier shower you could get a quick inch of rainfall leading to localized flooding. head up slow travel overnight into early tomorrow morning. to temperature wise, much cool

liberty bell this afternoon. and bells also rang simultaneously all across the country. these children are desend events of the signers of the declaration of the independent and pennsylvania society sons of the revolution. it is all part of the let freedom ring ceremony in the shadow of independent mall. i was so, so honored to host this start of the america's birthday celebration. some people celebrated the fourth down the shore, just by taking it easy. beach necessary ocean city were packed with beach chairs and umbrellas, not even cloud could put a damper on the spirits of the some beach goers. >> i think it is absolutely beautiful. they're predicting a so-so day but we were just commenting it turned out perfect. it is a great the day now. >> fire works show is scheduled to take place tonight at ten on the ocean city music pier, if bad weather moves in the show will be postponed until tomorrow night. well, holiday end, reality returns tomorrow and it is not going to be pretty for

commuters. septa is taking more than 100 defective train cars out of service. on your rahel solomon joins us from center city with new information on how septa plans to meet the challenge of working with a reduced fleet, rahel, happy fourth, good evening. >> reporter: ukee, good evening. septa is calling this issue unprecedented a third of the regional rail fleet off the track, making major changes in service until further notice. it may be back to work for many tomorrow but starting tuesday, septa's regional rail line will be operated on a saturday schedule. >> these 120 cars represent one-third of the septa fleet. it accounts for approximately 13,000 seats. these cars also run multiple times during our a.m. and p.m. rush hour, thus, you can imagine the impact to our regular customers. >> reporter: septa employee discovered structural defect friday, it was soon found that the crack in the main

suspension system extended to more than 100 silver liner five railcars, septa says it is working with hyundai the railcar manufacturer to fix the problem. in the meantime passengers should expect slower service and crowded conditions. >> i got to get down there earlier because it is even packed now when we have seven cars going to trenton. so, i have to leave earlier to go to work. >> i'm just glad that they did something, and they are doing something. >> reporter: septa says to lesson the frustration their market frankford line, broad street line, norristown high speed line and route 101, 102 trolleys will be running more frequently and regional rail passengers use other forms of septa transportation. >> reporter: here's something to keep in mind. septa says if the regional rail trains are too crowded they will not stop at certain stations. if you insist on getting on regional rail line drive to a stop a earlier in the line to

get on and they also say as i mention suggest other forms of the transportation and they are also offering free parking, coming up at 6:00 i'll tell you exactly where. reporting live from septa headquarters, rahel solomon for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> we will sigh you at 6:00. our coverage continues on line for a complete list of the septa rail services changes head to our web site at cbs philly.com. police identified the 16 year-old shot and killed overnight in grays ferry. she was shot around 12:30 near corner of moore and 31st street. he was with a group of people in the backyard. it is not clear what happened, before the shooting. philadelphia police say that they have a limited information, but they say a dark colored vehicle was seen driving away going northbound. a man is in jail on suspicion of dui after his car hit someone who was walking in ogontz. police say that the driver, six two-year old man hit the person near intersection of the fifth and west rustcomb after 2:00 a.m. the crash left the pedestrian in critical condition.

new jersey state police are investigating how someone was hit and killed walking on i295 in burlington county. tractor trailer hit the person around 3:45 near exit 40 the mount laurel exit, the driver was not hurt. north bound lanes of i295 were closed, for several hours. well, a big boom was heard by philadelphia police this morning and it wasn't the sound of fire works. someone apparently blew up an atm in strawberry mansion but they did not get the any money. officers heard the explosion around 4:00 this morning outside the hair after barber shop on the 2500 block of lehigh avenue. there were no reports of injuries and blow of alcohol tobacco firearms and explosives is investigating. coming up on "eyewitness news" keeping holiday celebrations safe. >> authorities beef up security this fourth of july after a number of terrorist attacks overseas, i'm craig boswell in washington with that coming up. also a smelly disaster in florida, toxic allergy is

storm scan three shows rain moving in and it could impact tonight's july 4th festivity, meteorologist justin drabick tracks the rain's arrival, justin joins news just a few minutes. security is tight at fourth of july festivity and landmarks all across the country. while authorities say there are no specific credible threats law enforcement agencies are out in force amid recent terror linked to violence overseas. correspondent craig boswell looks at heightened security measures. >> in new york city, nypd is showing its strength on the ground, and in the air. the u.s. coastguard is also boosting patrols. >> we just have extra presence out on the water, to prevent any emergency.

fear, so if that is what they want to us do. >> reporter: craig boswell for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". four florida counties are asking the fed for help after beachers and rivers were besieged by a smelly disaster. they are coated with toxic allergy thick slime is so bad for tourism and business, state of emergency was declared. allergy is blame on pollutants from a nearby fresh water lake. army core of engineers is slowing down the flow of that lake water, hoping to stop the allergy. we're finally seeing how alaska's glacier bay was reshaped by a landslide last week and this comes from mountain flying service. landslide hit brady ice field tuesday morning, region felt the tremors but dust cloud concealed the aftermath until right now. debris field is at least six and a half miles long. nasa's solar powered spacecraft juneo is expected to start orbiting tonight. during its mission they will circle the planet 37 times and take a close-up picture with

rainbow again tomorrow. we will be dealing with morning showers and eventually some sunshine. storm scan three shows a couple areas of steady rain out over the baltimore washington area about to move into northern delaware. so folks out toward cecil county maryland, newark delaware, middletown, glass co you could be seeing light rain right now. nothing too heavy. we will see pockets of heavy rain out to the west. we will zoom in closer here and see a few sprinkles in the lehigh valley, right now but again majority of the steady rain still well to the west. outdoor plans, get them done over the next couple of hours because this rain will pick up in intensity especially if you head toward after midnight tonight. that is when we have that flood watch go in effect. temperature wise, not bad, a little humid, up around 80. sitting with 78 in allentown. lower 70's at the shore due to the cloud cover and similar numbers across the suburbs. breaking out the grill this evening, right now we're still dry for the most part, temperature 77 in willow grove. dew point temperatures starting to get on the rise here, now we're creeping up in

the mid 60's, near 70 in dover delaware indicating more tropical air mass and that is what will produce heavier rain through the overnight hours. lets talk about this humidity, how will it feel. pretty nice, over weekend, saturday and sunday, today, humid and tomorrow steamy same deal on wednesday, they will feel oppressive as we head into thursday and friday as peak of the humidity returns. we are seeing a classic midsummer weather pattern. we have not gotten that this season. now it looks like it is on our way through next several days. good beach days ahead though once we get past tomorrow morning. at the shore some morning showers and then some sun for the afternoon. 84 degrees. full sunshine on wednesday. hot, more humid, mid 80's, good day to cool off. then thursday just watch for scattered showers and thunderstorms, don't cancel beach plans just typical afternoon summertime stuff. we have a warm front approaching us right now. once the front passes, we're going to be sitting in that warm, humid air mass feeling those showers overnight. tomorrow afternoon the storm

system starts to move off shore so we will clear out, should see some sunshine, and then wednesday sets up to see a dry day before we see next system bringing that shower or storm chance on thursday. lets zoom in closer. 10:00 o'clock getting close to the fire works festivities in philadelphia. there will be showers around. hopefully scattered enough where it doesn't impact us too much but then overnight we will see pockets of heavier rain moving in two or 3:00 a.m. tomorrow morning's commute not if with the septa issue. now we have to throw in heavy rain. that will slow things down. by the afternoon it looks better with sunshine. by the even of the week, jet stream moves to the north, this is classic, summertime set up, high pressure just off shore. this allows a lot of heat and humidity to develop. for tonight the showers will arrive, maybe thunderstorm low of 70 degrees. heavier showers early tomorrow morning and then clearing, warm high of 88 degrees. here we go with the three day forecast. we are close to 90 tomorrow and then mid 90's on wednesday when we factor in the humidity

that. >> tradition that kind of makes sense, this is fourth of july and many of us do enjoy hot dogs off the grill but i bet you cannot eat more than this guy. meet joey jaws chestnut, today he ate 70 hot dogs in ten minutes, at nathan's famous hot talk eating contest on coney island. chestnut ate three time wing bowl champion, you may recall set a record for most hot dogs ever eat men competition, regaining that mustard yellow, international belt. the men, not only ones, eating these hot dogs. the four time defending champ mickey soto ate 38 in ten minutes. she and chestnut will win $10,000 each. this is her third straight title and 100 anniversary of famous hot dog eating event. 3/2 pitch, swing and well hit ball to deep center field, it is back, it is out of here, home run, lenny dykstra.

"eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan is there right now to tell us more about it. cleve. >> reporter: hi there they are just wrapping up one of the opening acts, music has been playing, crowd is here, they are walking with the sand between their toes, and you cannot beat that on the fourth of july. so far, just a few little drizzles, in real rain and people are hoping it holds off as tim mcgraw takes the stage and they are ready to rock right here.

wildwood beach concert the goers are looking patriotic and feeling pumped up. >> when he was coming i got all excited. we were kind of, making sure that we were all ready, we're excited to be together, excited to be here in wildwood and enjoying the show. >> reporter: wildwood officials say tim mcgraw is the largest beach concert of the summer drawing as crowd as many as 40,000 people. >> it is great. it is just an entertainment value that we need to compete with everybody else that is out there. this is, i think the beginning of a long relationship with this type of events coming here. >> reporter: for wildwood beach concerts helped fill hotel, restaurants and sell souvenirs. fourth of july weekend kicks off busiest two month stretch of the year at the jersey shore. >> watch the tram car police report report many visitors say going to a country concert on the actual fourth was a perfect way to cap off the holiday weekend. >> it is awesome. it is amount of people here. it is awesome.

disappeared. a three-year old boy is okay after a scare on the california beach as he was buried under 3 feet of sand this happened in new port beach saturday afternoon. boy went digging tunnels when he disappeared. his parents started to frantically asking other people for help at the beach just before he dove in. >> started digging, pretty fast and dug two big handfull and that is when i felt him under the sand. >> it was a scary thing to see a little boy that wasn't breathing and blue and pretty much dead. it was pretty frightening i'm sure it was. someone on the beach performed cpr and boy was taken to the hospital and he is okay, he says that the family texted him a picture of boy, smiling in his hospital bed. one very cool k-9 is on a mission, still to come on "eyewitness news" the goggles and ear guard he is wearing is not for fun photo op, this doggies on the job to keep travel are safe.
