>> ♪ >> live from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> right now on "eyewitness news," storms have been rolling through the delaware valley today and some are still in the area even now. here's what it looks like right now in center city philadelphia courtesy of skycam3. some ominous looking clouds still out there. good evening, i'm natasha brown. let's get right over to meteorologist kyla grogan in

for lauren casey tonight. what should we expect. >> natasha, the good news is the worst of it is happening right now and you can see this line of storms and you see the lightning associated with it, wilmington getting hit with heavy showers, it's skirting to the south of philadelphia. we're catching a little bit of a break but notice it is going to keep moving towards the shore so those of you who are in places like vineland if you're down in atlantic city be on the lookout, you've got a round of this coming your way. as we zoom out, what's happening is a front is going to track through. we know that the front can help us out a lot, it can have that pass us by and then make humidity a lot better and that is what we're going to see as we head into the next 24 hours. so, we just have to hang on and get rid of these storms. current temperature right now in philadelphia, 77 degrees. you can see the wind out of the south at 8 miles per hour. so wind is not too bad. does feel like 78 though and that is because we still have that sticky humidity to contend with. so, hang in there folks because we are going to see a change in the temperatures and the change in the humidity levels. i have a pretty nice sunday on

tap to your so i'll tell you about that coming up in just a few moments when we get to your full weather. natasha back to you. >> kyla thank you so much. we're following some breaking news right now. a 13-year-old girl has been stabbed in germantown. it happened about 3:00 this afternoon on the 5200 block of marion street. police say the girl was stabbed in the neck and is hospitalized now in stable condition. no arrests have been made just yet. also a fast moving fire destroys multiple homes in a philadelphia neighborhood in send two people to the hospital. "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh has the story from cobbs creek. >> reporter: the sound of chaos. >> i just heard people yelling get out, get out, fire, fire: that it is what antoinette thompson woke up to. firefighters rushed to larchwood avenue to put out a blaze that tore through four row homes and damaged a dozen

others. >> i ran outside and i seen flames. >> reporter: emergency responders took two injured people to penn presbyterian medical center but everyone made it out alive. neighbors say their tight knit block is to thank. >> banging on people's doors. the fire began spreading fast. i ran from house to house and the fire followed me. >> reporter: even luckier they say is that the fire appears to have sparked at an empty home. neighbors tell me that the family that lived inside this home had been evictd and moved belongings from inside this home several hours before this fire started. you can see piles of trash and old furniture are still littering the street. and as restoration crews worked to repair the damage to surrounding homes, those who live on this block say the embers could have ended with tragedy but instead anything they've lost can be replaced. >> we still have a house. i'm pledged only thing is damage on the outside and we're still living. that's my main concern.

>> reporter: in cobbs creek anita oh cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> we are learning a lot more details tonight about the gunman who ambushed police officers and shattered peaceful protest in dallas. flowers and cards are piling up on two police cruisers that have become a memorial for the five fallen officers. cbs news sources say gunman micah johnson had been stockpiling weapons and building an arsenal for the last two years. cbs news has learned johnson was honorably discharged from the army even after he was accused of sexually assaulting a female soldier. president obama called him demented. >> he's no more representative of african-americans than the shooter in charleston was representative of white americans. or the shooter in orlando or san bernadino were representative of muslim americans. they don't speak for us.

it's not who we are. >> president obama will travel to dallas next week to mourn with the victims' families. also the violence in dallas occurred during nationwide protests over recent police shootings in minnesota and louisiana. protests continue in philadelphia this weekend. "eyewitness news" reporter trang do is live in fairhill where a demonstration is just about to begin. trang. >> reporter: yeah, natasha, today's protest is a little different from all the others that either started in center city and ended up at city hall. this is in the middle of a north philadelphia neighborhood that these demonstrators says has been the subject of police brutality but let me show you a look down here. this is the intersection of west cambria and north masher streets. you can see a few demonstrators there at this moment, they are actually more police here than demonstrators but the people here they say they have the same message. they're with a group calling themselves the philly coalition for real justice and they say that they are

disheartened by awful these police brutality cases and police involved shootings. now, they are intending to start here and gather here and then they will walk down about a mile and a half over to the 24th and 25th police districts over on whitaker and they're going to stay out there they say until about 9 p.m. and so right now police are just gathering. everybody's just kind of hanging out here waiting for more people to gather and to begin that march. we're going to stay out here and bring you the very latest tonight at 10:00 and 11:00. for now we're live in fairhill, i'm trang do cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> trang thank you. communities across the region are offering support to police officers in the wake of the ambush in dallas. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff is live at police headquarters with that part of our story tonight. alex. >> reporter: natasha, as you know, this has been a hard week for cities around the can't tree. loss, anger and then more loss. for some this is has created a

larger divide between law enforcement and community members but for some it's created a greater push to bridge the gap. >> ♪ love is the answer. >> love is the answer. >> reporter: this group wants philadelphia to become the example. as the city mourning deadly violence regardless of color or career. >> violence is never going to be the answer. two plus two, a and eye for an eye will never be the answer. >> reporter: a walking prayer vigil moved through the street as day four of city wide protests condemn the deaths of two men killed by police in other parts of the country. >> first time leading should happen shouldn't be under a violent situation. >> reporter: philadelphia police officers who have just lost five of their dallas counterparts to suspected retaliation flocked their uniforms for a different kind. >> officer santiago who calls it how they see it. >> reporter: joining in as referees.

>> you feel safer to be here because if something happens the police officers are right there. >> reporter: officers across the region have taken to facebook giving thanks for support that they've received one man literally took a stand in browns mills burlington county. he spent ours waving a flag in memory of dallas' fallen officers. >> we love our law enforcement so much that we wanted to pray that they stay protected. >> reporter: it is a two way street over gap that must be brigid. so, while solutions are discussed, steam must be let out and in philadelphia there may not be a better place to do just that. i was told from other departments that not only have they been receiving gifts but also visits from local community actor 50's who come with ideas to help them -- activists who come with ideas to help them better serve their communities. alexandria hoff, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> alex great to see that. thank you very much. stay with "eyewitness news" for complete coverage of the ambush in dallas and the deadly police shootings across the country.

we'll have the latest on our web site cbsphilly.com. also tonight the search is on for a gunman who shot and killed a man in north philadelphia. eye witnesses called police to report a fight outside of a bar on the 800 block of west wingohocking street. this happened about 1:30 this morning. officers arrived to find the victim lying on the street with a gunshot wound to the neck. there's no word on what sparked the altercation. anyone with information is asked to contact police right away. and authorities meantime have charged a brooklyn man in a hit and run that killed the cousin of philadelphia 76ers star ben simmons. 21-year-old zachary simmons was with ben when he was selected as the number one pick in the nba draft back on june 23rd. zachary died two days later when police say mark nicholas struck him with his suv as he crossed the street. investigators believe that surveillance video showed the vehicle immediately speeding away. the democratic national convention, it is just over two weeks away. still to come tonight on "eyewitness news," the major platform change that the

>> the count down is on. we are just 16 days away from the democratic national convention right here in philadelphia. and as philadelphia makes last minute preparations the democratic party announced a major change to its platform. late yesterday, the democrats add add $15 per hour federal minimum wage. it is a victory for bernie sanders whose voice will be heard at the convention despite finishing behind hillary clinton in the primary. the $15 an hour federal minimum wage was one of sander's pledges during his campaign. the change was made at the party's platform meeting in orlando. now republicans say raising the minimum wage would actually hurt the working class because it will raise costs for businesses and ultimately lead to job losses. meanwhile hillary clinton is wooing bernie sanders supporters right now. today the presumptive democratic nominee announced her support for creating a public option within the healthcare law. sanders has championed the creation of a private government run insurance plan

to compete with private insurers offering coverage through the affordable care act exchanges. sanders praised clinton's announcement on twitter. presumptive republican presidential nominee donald trump was at a fundraising lunch in southampton new york today. this is video of trump's motorcade. the event was held at the home of investor wilbur ross. he's on the list of presidential trustees helping the republican national committee raise money. strength courage and resilience today. philadelphia is observing world refugee day. the city hosted a big festival at city hall. organizers are highlighting the growing contributions of refugees in philadelphia and spreading awareness of the challenges they face today in their search for a new home. more than 100,000 refugees have made pennsylvania a place to call home since the mid-1970's. and kyla grogan is in with details on our forecast. it is so sticky out. >> i know. you thought the numbers were going to be lower so --

>> yeah. >> , it will be nicer and then the humidity did not give us a break. it's like surprise. there you go. let's take a live look outside and right now we've got clouds in philadelphia. you're taking a live look at center city. those low clouds were actual -- we're actually a little lucky right now because to the south and west of us they're actually seeing stormy weather so could be worse. we could be getting the downpours, the gusts. i've heard of trees down across the state from some storms that have rolled through so at least we don't have that right now but we're not out of the woods. right now it's 77 degrees in philadelphia. check out mount pocono just at 69. 80's down in millville, they're at 81. 78 in wildwood atlantic city coming in at about 76 degrees. but this is the bigger picture. the bigger picture showing the stormy weather ahead of a front that is tracking across and it doesn't take much to zoom in on philadelphia here and see that that is where some of the trouble is just to our south. so you can see heavier storms

with that lightning associated with it? just roared through wilmington now headed to those of in you vineland and these have the heavy downpours, the gusty winds they're nasty but once they're out of here they're out of here and then we start to get much nicer as we head into our sunday. yes, she has some good news, too. dewpoints right now by the way this is why you're feeling so sticky, temperatures in the 70's and dewpoints in the 70's. those two are very close together. that means very saturated very moist off and it means you walk outside and you feel like you need a shower again even though you just took one so that is going to stick with us until we get this stormy weather out of here. let's show you future weather. as we start to see the storms roll through here, we get into sunday, about midnight notice they're almost out of here, a little to the north of us still battering no, new york but we'll be looking pretty good, just a few showers left to clear the shore. sunday morning that's more like it we're nice and dry and we start to see clouds let up, get that sunshine back in there so your weekend not al total washout or not a total cloudy weekend, either and by the way, monday nice and clear

and looking good. so we've got some nice weather coming our way. forecast highs tomorrow, you can see philly looking out for 87 degrees, a very seasonable temperature, 83 in reading, 84 in wilmington, dover about 86 degrees. and about 82 in atlantic city. now, if you happen to be a person who has a long weekend this weekend and you're down the shore just waiting for that sun to come out, i've got good news to your. it's not just tomorrow but actually beautiful over the next three days here. you see lots and lots of sunshine coming your way so maybe saturday was a day you stayed in, watched a movie, hung out got some stuff done and then tomorrow you can head outside. the storms rolling through tonight. we'll start clearing as we get into the overnight hours. that humidity is going to drop a bit and give us a little bit of a break tomorrow which will be quite nice and that leaves us with a very good looking sunday on tap. overnight low tonight, 71 degrees. showers and thunderstorms clearing. notice wind out of the south eight to 10 miles per hour. not too bad tonight. now tomorrow that breeze is going to puck up a little bit as we get a westerly flow
