the victim is in critical condition at temple university hospital but he is expect to survive. a community remembers a teenager killed following a basketball game in southwest philadelphia. >> this morning police are still searching for his killer. >> "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch is live at police headquarters with more on the investigation, justin? >> reporter: brooke and jim, good morning. an arrest could come soon in the rest of tyhir barnes. he was gun down monday in what police are calling an ambush. lets go to video from tuesday evening, this is a balloon release that closed off one of two vigils held for tyhir barnes many carrying messages for loss of the aspiring rapper and rising sophomore from the southwest philadelphia area. just before 10:00 p.m. monday police say barnes and his friends were ambush as they were leaving the basketball game, around 60th and baltimore avenue. detectives then report that ten shots were fired.

their motive apparent lit was retaliation. they say barnes neighborhood basketball team had a buzzer beater win over a rival team within the last week. that started an earlier fight involving barnes his teammates and that rival team. then monday night that gunfire, that left barnes shot in the face and two other teens injured all were taken to penn presbyterian where he died a short time later. >> there is no reason she should be planning a funeral for this young man. absolutely none. no reason for young kid to be going through this pain and torment. >> you took a life. why don't you be man enough to turn yourself in. >> now, detectives say the shoot inner this case is likely also a teenager but still, they are asking for the public's help as they get closer to making an arrest. brooke and jim, back inside to you. >> thanks, justin. there are several preliminaries hearing including one for mother

charge in the death of her four year old daughter. prosecutors say shakeia holmes initially claimed her daughter was hit by a stray bullet last month but they believe the girl shot herself with the gun that she found in the bedroom. her boyfriend, also faces charges in this case. authorities say, phillips was waving a gun around his kensington to be home last april. gun went off shooting and killing his four year-old daughter. and phillips faces involuntary manslaughter and other charges. there is also a hearing today for three people accused in the murder of toya bryant. she was found last month handcuffed, and shot to death in fairmount park. prosecutors say the defendants killed bryant over a $800 debt. paul contact sonnies accused in the murder on have his wife with the cross bone. he admitted shooting his wife pamela in his home in the northeast. couple had been married less than ten days earlier.

convention. her campaign obtained a permit from the national park service for a public, assembly on july . now that is the day after the dnc end at the wells fargo center. the convention is reportedly invited senator elizabeth warren to speak on its first night. the massachusetts demies under consideration, as a potential running mate the by hillary clinton's campaign. clinton, warren, excuse me is a passionate voice for the party a ace liberal wing but it could help clinton sure up support among those on the left particularly backers of senator bernie sanders. now jessica dean will be in cleveland to cover the republican national convention, look for her live reports all week long, here on "eyewitness news". funerals will be held today for three of the five officers killed in the dallas snipper attack. at a memorial service yesterday in dallas five american flags sat in empty chairs. there was a solemn symbol of the five officers who lost their lives. president george w. bush told the crowd that americans should remember they shared commitments for common ideals.

this is sky scan three shot overlooking intersection of the broad and spring garden taken from our own station headquarters here in the spring garden section of the city but regardless it is not quite as bright. it is a little bit clearer out to cape may county here, our view from middletown ship high school off in the distance, light of the day starting to pop over the horizon, it is still early, just shy of an half an hour or so, we will see that sun officially rise, cross the delaware valley. you are going to see sunshine here today. difference is there will be showers and then are storms to dodge and a heck of a lot more muggy throughout the course of the day then it has been in recent days. it started to go up tic and now back again in more positive form. here's more activity, firing up already. here's the goodies, guys, high pressure has moved out to sea. as a result of us being on the western rim we are starting to see that not only some of the wind flow but also moisture start to move back in the delaware valley and you can see with enough disturbance

moving through the potential for some showers and storms. and that is exactly what we got right across new castle, salem county there is one little pocket of locally pretty heavy showers between salem and lower all away creek. we will be running in the the potential for harm. this will be a concern for anyone, anytime, here as the day progresses. we will quickly check on the comfort index here. 68 degrees is the current dew point, definitely more muggy then it has been and will likely get up to around 70 later today and quickly as we check regional forecast upper 80's in the city, lower 80's in the cher towns, and up in the upper 70's in the poconos and anyone, meisha is fair game for shower or storms. >> great to know, thanks very much, katie. well, so far, so good in terms of the weather. we will see how this pans out for us, in terms of your traffic this morning. we have been dealing with an accident on 422 westbound on ramp from the schuylkill, hard to see in this camera shot. it is pulled off to the shoulder but we can see flashing lights there but crews are still out there, moved out of the way.

looking at 422 that is something we will be dealing with still and the vine, off ramp from the schuylkill eastbound on to the vine that was closed, that is now reopened, so the vine it will not close for construction between schuylkill and broad. we're looking good in all directions right now. ninety-five south, at cottman this is what you are looking at there looking g coming around that s curve you can see things are looking good northbound, barely even a look at this hour because it is looking g you can see early risers both directions on interstate 95. we are looking g accident, boulevard northbound at, just past woodhaven road with the down pole and someone with injuries. outer drive is closed right now because of that accident, we will be updating you when that clears, brooke, over to you. and in western pennsylvania a lot of you are talking about when police officers in the town of homestead did this week. >> it started in a restaurant. has been high in the wake of last weeks violence but this group of officers in western pennsylvania was able to turn an uncomfortable, eke ward situation around, with a simple act of kindness. it was a typical friday night at eat on park and homestead allegheny county, or so these four officers thought. >> we're sitting down waiting on our food. >> i heard talk. i happened to glance over and a couple coming in the restaurant. >> reporter: officers are regular is here, usually greeted with handshakes and gratitude this night was dip rent. >> i don't want to sit here. >> i said, it is okay, your is, you don't have to worry about it, we won't hurt you. he looked at me hard and said he is not sitting there and walk away. >> reporter: couple was seat add cross the restaurant but the exchange didn't end there. while these officers feel comfortable in their community, in light of what happened across the country recently they saw an opportunity. >> i sat there for a while and thought on it, finished my

meal, and we should pay his tab. >> reporter: and they d they sent the $28.50 check to the table with the message reading, sir, your check was paid for by the police officers thaw didn't want to sit next to. thank you for your support. i left a 10-dollar tip too. >> they want to make it known in our community they are our friend and they take care of us. you know, we are in the out to get you. >> the whole goal was to let him know that we're not here to hurt you. we're in the here for. that we're here for you. we work for the public. we're just want to have a better relationship between the community and the police. >> reporter: or as this sergeant put it. >> not all cops are bad, you know, not all people are bad. >> reporter: once the officers left they did get the a smile and quick thank you from within of the people who refused to sit next to them. a positive end to that situation there. >> and good tippers.
