donald trump spoke to governor chris christie by phone wednesday. he's among the top contenders being vetted as a top vp pick. donald trump says he's whittled down his vice-presidential picks to two ahead of his announcement. appearing on fox news, he hinted at who his vp might be. >> i want to pick somebody who's solid, who's smart. i'm not looking for an attack dog. >> former house speaker newt gingrich hinted it might be between him and governor mike pence. the presumptive gop nominee huddled with gingrich as well as alabama senator jeff sessions in a meeting wednesday. the meeting came after trump and his three eldest children met with pence at his private mansion. >> i think he's giving it careful consideration and we're humbled to be a part of that. >> a new poll finds trump gang

times" poll. negative race relations are at an all-time high. 69% of americans now view race relations as bad. substantially more whites think their local police are doing a good job than blacks. last night's espy awards honoring this year's athletes ended on a somber note. four athletes opened the show with a call to fellow athletes to address gun violence, racial profiling, and racism. >> we all feel helpless and frustrated by the violence, we do, but that's not acceptable. it's time to fluke the mirror and ask ourselves what are we doing create change. >> the four basketball stars took turns talking about what anthony recalled the reality of the current state of america. wade said the conversation won't be comfortable but it is necessary. >> the racial profiling has to

last week. the latest victim was a woman whose body was found in april. all of the shootings happened in or near phoenix. police released a sketch of the suspect based on a description from a witness. the orlando sent knell has stated that disney world has warned visitors to stop feeding alligators. the firefighters were told not to feed the alligators two months before. it's illegal because the animals lose their fear of humans. >> sports illustrated reports that tom brady's deflategate is finally over. they ruled against him yesterday. the patriots quarterback will likely have to sit out new england's first four games and punishment in the football tampering feud. the "los angeles times" describes what the new ringling

getting worse nationwide. some regions are worse than others. here's jamie yuccas. >> reporter: after an argument, a driver in florida ran over joe kalderozzo, breaking his leg. >> reporter: in colorado police say a motorcyclist shot at a couple's car after being cut off. many drivers see row rage whenever they get behind the wheel. >> it creates a hectic situation for other drivers. >> reporter: in a recent survey by aaa it has increased. 51% say they purposely tailgated. 47% yelled at another driver, and 45% say they honked at someone. aaa estimates nearly 6 million driver have bump order rammed another car on purpose and 70

here's another look at this morning's top stories. donald trump says he'll announce his running mate tomorrow. he met with indiana governor mike pence and former speaker of the house newt gingrich yesterday. the latest poll shows trump is running neck and neck with hillary clinton. and president obama met at the white house with community activists and politicians to discuss issues between the police and communities they serve. the president said america is not even close to where it needs to be to resolve those issues and to make progress. a teenager in atlanta is getting national attention for addressing race relations. a poem he wrote has become an internet sensation.
