brought terror to the streets of nice. >> i seen one guy, you you know, babies were screaming. >> reporter: the truck plowed through hundreds of the pedestrian whose gathered to watch bastille day fire works on the city's main promenade, police killed the driver after he started shooting at them. >> shoot the police, and police started shooting. >> reporter: cbs news has confirmed the man behind the wheel was mohammad burrell, a 31 year-old french citizen born in tunisia. he was not on any terror watch list and only had a road rage convictions, neighbors say father of three was not a religious man and that he was getting divorced and was recently fired from his job. french president frances hollande said dozens of people remain in critical condition among victims an american father and son, 51 year-old

80 lives. as french investigators say a 31 year-old terrorist was mowing down scores of people in the box truck, while thousands celebrated bastille day in nice, france thursday night, the former spring side chestnut hill academy french teacher laura neagle was just blocks away. >> i live, and with friend in the old time. >> reporter: finish up dinner after missing fire works show. >> i wanted to go after dinner and it was simply that my friend's taxi driver took them to this small restaurant with a and we wound up not going. >> reporter: neagle attending a summer language seminar said crowd started to pour in the square she was in. >> people just love to be in shock. >> reporter: confusion, panic on the face of many moving their young children from the chaos. >> people were pushing their strollers and shielding their children. they didn't know from what but they were pushing their

senator tim kane, and massachusetts senator elizabeth warren. a quiet chester county neighborhood was rattled when a house there collapsed. chopper three over the scene, in the coatsville area fire rescue crew where is called to the 1100 block of valley station road in valley township. that collapse as you can see, turned a house into a pile of ruble. luckily no one was inside, no word on why it came down but an investigation is ongoing. worker at a montgomery county warehouse has died in what appears to be a freak accident, it happened at yates and company in white cap road in limerick. police say work's arrived about 8:00 this morning to find their collogue crushed by industrial pipes that had fallen off the back of the flatbed truck. it is not known what caused those pipes to fall or if anyone witnessed the accident, workers name has not been release. a man fell through the roof of the high school earlier this morning, chopper three over sterling high school on south warwick road in somerdale.

police say that happened shortly after 7:00. right now, it is not clear what the men were doing on the roof, no word on the extent of his injuries. and it is a frightening ride for day care children in the van this morning. their vehicle went up and over a sidewalk and then a building. chopper three was over that scene in west philadelphia 12 children were taken to children's hospital to be evaluated, we know driver is in stable condition at penn presbyterian medical center. this happened at 52nd and hazel street shortly after 9:00 a.m. and there are no word on what put that man out of control. another day of dangerous heat but we are about to get a bit of the break. >> good news. >> meteorologist lauren casey is in for kate live on the cbs-3 sky deck with a peak ahead at the weekend but hopefully a little cooler. >> maybe slightly, a couple degrees but we will get a final break from the humidity as we get into sunday and and a big break next week but no breaks right now, excessive

on the cbs-3 healthwatch there are new concerns about how the zika virus is spreading. officials confirmed today that it has been transmitted sexually from a woman to a man for the first time. >> now also today pennsylvania health officials activated their zika prevention initiative, health reporter stephanie stahl has the zika update. >> reporter: lots going on with this one guys. sick ace usually went by mosquitoes outside the united states. 1300 people in the u.s. have been infect while traveling. it can be transmitted sexually and today we have learned there are now expanded warnings about how it is spread. the first female to male transmission of the zika virus happened with the 20 year-old woman who returned to new york city from the zika affect area her male partner had not traveled outside the you had. >> they had sexual intercourse, just before she began to develop systems. we no this is the time people infect with sick air reaching highest levels of virus in their blood.

the count down to the republican national convention, is on, and it is just a few days to go before tens of thousands descend on cleveland, the security is ram pink up. law enforcement is putting final touches on security plans 20 keep everybody safe. good evening i'm nicole brewer. >> i'm jessica dean. weijia jiang joins us live in cleveland to tell us all more about the security efforts there, weijia. >> jessica ape nicole the department of home land security, says right new there is no specific or credible threat to the convention, but a government source tells cbs news that planned for security is constantly evolving. inn yan a governor mike pence is joining the republican ticket. donald trump tweeted pence is his running mate. they will hold a news conference saturday in new york city and then, turn their attention to cleveland and the republican national convention. 50,000 people are expect here, next week.

>> i'm good to go. cleveland is ready to go. we are looking forward to this. >> reporter: u.s. secret service is leading the security effort using high tech tactics to machine for crowds, cleveland police have prepped for 19 months, bomb detection robots, k-9 teams and mounted units are in place and it has created a heightened security event zone throughout the downtown area. a smaller, security zone at around quicken loans arena is off limits to the vehicles. >> security officials say they made changes to their plans following the mass shooting of police officers in dallas and there will be even more as a result of the attack in nice, france. adding to the challenging ohio is an open carry state so people outside the secure zone can bring guns of all sizes. >> we have had protests in the this city in the past and we have a system in place that we use to deal with those situations. >> reporter: 500 cleveland officers are dedicated to patrolling the convention and

with 2500 others from across the country to help them the police chief say they are ready for anything. and, of course, one of the major concerns is protesters and how that will impact city streets because a lot of them are expected to walk in the streets. the chief says they are not necessarily handing out tickets because there will be so many people that their priority toys make sure that those protests don't turn rowdy and violent, jessica and nicole. >> we see preparations are already in place to keep that security tight, have you noticed any increased patrols, more officers surrounding the area where the convention will be. >> reporter: certainly every where we look we can see barricade and those fences something you saw in our piece and officers whether they are on foot, horses, on bikes, they are very apparently every where they just want to send the message that they have teams in place and ready to go. there is a lot of security but

in east france. truck plowed through hundreds of pedestrians who gathered to watch fire works on the main promenade. eighty-four people were killed including two americans. more than 200 others were hurt. police killed the driver after he started shooting at them, the attacker was not on any terror watch list but only had small run ins with police including a red rage convictions. tourist and resident were celebrating when that truck entered the promenade and we are hearing more firsthand accounts of the terrifying moments. >> cell even if video showing french police approached the truck was captured by this men who moments earlier saw him swarm in that direction. >> i began to shout at him and other people, who were injured, and i saw him, you know, he looked evil, and he was moving in a very nervous way and... unaudible.
