coming hours, kate. >> we are still under a severe thunderstorm watch until about 8:00 o'clock tonight. it looks like worst is over for philadelphia but not so, if you are in portions of south jersey and delaware. that is where stronger storms are right the now. also a few cells over new york city producing strong win gusts. we had a report of the 65 miles an hour win gusts in newark airport in just the past hour or so. strongest storm on our radar is this one moving from new castle county delaware over toward salem county, new jersey and take a look at the lightening. thinks the biggest threat right now damaging wind and frequent cloud to ground lightening and measured out lightening with that storm in a few minutes there is a 500 lightening strikes inn that will run risk for trees down and power outages especially when coupled with the risks. medford lakes, evesham township, heavy rain there and pouring rain across you this castle will county over toward salem county, new jersey. portions of that area, still, severe thunderstorm warning that has expired for new castle county but kent and

sussex counties in delaware cities like owe december a, smyrna, kent and dover, you are still under a severe thunderstorm warning. the entire area under a severe thunderstorm watch, that goes until 8:00 o'clock tonight. the worst is over north and west of the city but shore, portions of southern delaware and beaches likely still to be hit. i will time them out and tell but a little break in the heat and humidity that follows coming up, jessica, back over to you. state police say gunman who shot six police officers in bat only rouge, louisiana yesterday was clearly targeting law enforcement. police described the m of the 29 year-old gavin long as chilling, in in the brutality. >> investigators are working to figure out if anyone else was involved in long's plan to kill police. baton rouge officials released surveillance photos of the gavin long dressed in black armed with an assault rifle as he carried out his deadly ambush. >> there is no doubt whatsoever that these officers were intentionally targeted, and assassinated.

sunday's shooting is still in critical condition, police say he is fighting for his life. eight police officers have been killed in baton rouge and dallas in the past few weeks, following police shootings of two black men. ambush in louisiana a is fueling tension nationwide, police here in philadelphia are feeling effects of a special as they prepared to be in the national spotlight with the influx of both summer tourist and also people coming in for the democratic national convention. build excitement for trump's acceptance speech thursday night. craig boswell for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". let's keep tonight buck eye state, there are quite a few prominent republicans hoff decided to skip the convention entirely. former presidents george hw bush and george w. bush will not be in attendance. but also goes for 2012 republican nominee mitt romney and 2008 republican nominee john mccain. ohio governor john kasich also decided not to attend the convention which is being held in his own home state. some local g.o.p. lawmakers are also sitting out the big event. they include pennsylvania senator pat toomey, and pennsylvania congressman pat meehan, ryan costello, mike fitzpatrick, joseph pits, and charlie dent. and i will be traveling to cleveland for the republican national convention, we will look for my live reports starting tomorrow right here on "eyewitness news". we are only a week away from the opening of the democratic national convention, that is back here in philadelphia. the a area around the wells

fargo center is under going quite the transformation in preparation for the big event. this is the view from chopper three, you see giant tents popped up in the parking lot as organizers prior to welcome up to 50,000 visitors. and hillary clinton was also in ohio for a different convention, the presumptive democratic presidential nominee attended the naacp's annual gathering in cincinnati. she condemned the ambush style killings of the police officers in dallas and baton rouge saying it threatens the nation's ability to make progress toward criminal justice reform. she told the crowd quote this madness has to stop. >> we have, difficult, painful essential work ahead of us to repair the bonds between our police and our communities and between and among each other. >> clinton is saying if elect president she will help

little bit more palatable to people that think trump is too aggressive. i think trump trying to communicate that was the reason for hire with pence but obviously leslie is not buying that. >> it will be an interesting week. >> i was just curious what was security like getting into convention hall was it visible or not. >> you know, four years ago in tampa the rnc had obviously similar security concerns, far greater now but honestly cleveland managed, in my opinion, from what i have seen so far really pull this off more smoothly then the folks in tampa did four years ago. there is security parameters, but this is a downtown that is quite a bit more compact, all of the axis here. once you are through a secure perimeter as long as you are in a secure area don't to have go back through security again which makes it convenient. >> on a lighter night we heard you bumped into, one of our favorite funny men around here, tell us about that.

sex education for teenagers, a new report said more pediatricians should be having the talk with patients. >> health reporter stephanie stahl has more on the study released to day. >> reporter: just out today report says 30 percent of teens do not get any information about sex from their pediatrician, and they should. the american academy of pediatrics says doctors can help ensure teens are getting the information that they need about issues of sexuality. >> have you used it recently. >> reporter: fourteen year-old ryan herrera's update, includes a conversation about sex. >> do you have feel comfortable you have a place to go if you have questions about things like that. >> reporter: new report from american academy of pediatrics say pediatricians should play

level and just get it done. >> all right. >> stephanie, thank you. kate bilo joins with us our first look. i was walking down the hall an hour ago, looked out the window, wow. unbelievable. >> it just exploded. >> yes, we miss add lot of the storms here in philadelphia, this summer. it seems like they have been splitting off. we have not gotten too much. today we got it. we got it big time, very strong storm moved through. we still have a pretty active radar right now. worst of it moving through delaware in, to south jersey, worst is over for city and points north and west. still can pick up a stray shower or then are storm but nothing like what we saw earlier today. the lets take you first and foremost to the shore back here, the beach is not as pack as it was a half an hour or so ago because there are storms heading that way. people are starting to see the clouds increase, from the west and start to pack up their stuff and move off the beach, probably a good idea. take a look at northampton area middle schooltime lapse from today, start of the day with sunshine, hot, humid, and

watch the dark cloud begin to roll role through, here they come, very ominous very quickly and then take a look at these downpours coming through in northampton very heavy rain, strong gusty wind, clears out quickly but now we have another round of showers moving through that area 72 degrees. here's a live look at storm scan three, we can see this line of storms, and right through northern delaware, that area, right now getting slammed with lightening, across northern delaware, southern new castle county, namely south of i-95, down toward kent county, middled town, smyrna, and lets take a closer look at this, again look at these lightening strikes. this could bring down tree branches, cause power outages and just in the past ten or 15 minutes, 659 lightening strikes measured in this particular area so this is not the kind of rain you can say i will try to run to the car and put the coat on my head. wait this one out. do not want to be out in that

if at all possible. we have showers and storms heading toward the shore, absecon right now in atlantic city, margate, ocean city, expect these showers and storms to get here soon. this severe thunderstorm watch, will go until 8:00. they may erode this as threat diminishes for our north and western suburbs. we had 62 miles an hour wind gust. the trees down in white hall township, haverford township as well near the high school and power outage reported in the broomall area. this evening the area still on the dock it for heavy thunderstorms, win and lightening are biggest threats for you tonight, temperatures have drop in the wake of those storms, and pulled in briefly to 95 degrees, today, as we clear it out, we have more comfort an that should come after 8:00 tonight as storms moves out. humidity will drop for next couple of days and everything looking much better especially tuesday and wednesday. tonight's low we are down to 74 degrees, strong thunderstorm giving way to gradual clearing and beautiful stretch back to the 80's with sunshine and lower humidity,

another showered or thunderstorm before everything clears out later this evening, dark cloud, overhead, in center city and worst is off to the south and to our east, at this point but again, it will look pretty rough afternoon in the city of philadelphia heavy downpours, frequent lightening. that has now moved to the south and east. lets look at storm scan three. you can see this line of storms extending from coastal new england down through del marva region and heaviest is over northern and central delaware right now. it is this particular storm. take a look at all of the lightening strikes with this storm. it is very, very electrified. now crossing over into portions of south jersey, southern cumberland county and kent county in delaware. dover getting hit especially hard at the moment. we are seeing the heavy rain and heavy downpours with this particular cell as well as we sweep the area we will actually have a severe thunderstorm warning for that region just to the extreme southern part of the new castle county, it does include smyrna, dover and much of the central kent county in delaware. now we are seeing these storms

sweep here and you can see storms, right now over portions of the ocean county extend nothing a line right through south jersey and down into central delaware, kent county getting hit hard with frequent lightening, although it has weakened a writ will bit, this one particular storm, producing lots of lightening, dangerous cloud to ground lightening and strong wind over salem and cumberland county and kent county right over dover, delaware where we have a severe thunderstorm warning including smyrna, dover, right across kent county. we had a new warning popping up, for this area, you can see this storm in ocean county. line extend right back down in atlantic county over atlantic city express bay and into cape may county just starting to move in. southern shore points you have to get off those beaches those storms are heading your way. portions of ocean county now also under a severe then are storm warning until 6:15 and you can see a lot of lightening with this storm as well. this will continue, the threat at least until around 8:00 o'clock this evening. there are a few
