sweep here and you can see storms, right now over portions of the ocean county extend nothing a line right through south jersey and down into central delaware, kent county getting hit hard with frequent lightening, although it has weakened a writ will bit, this one particular storm, producing lots of lightening, dangerous cloud to ground lightening and strong wind over salem and cumberland county and kent county right over dover, delaware where we have a severe thunderstorm warning including smyrna, dover, right across kent county. we had a new warning popping up, for this area, you can see this storm in ocean county. line extend right back down in atlantic county over atlantic city express bay and into cape may county just starting to move in. southern shore points you have to get off those beaches those storms are heading your way. portions of ocean county now also under a severe then are storm warning until 6:15 and you can see a lot of lightening with this storm as well. this will continue, the threat at least until around 8:00 o'clock this evening. there are a few scattered storms and showers popping up

behind that main line. another shower for the city. but severe weather treat for shore and central delaware until 8:00 o'clock. downpours, slow travel, strong wind, and frequent lightening. coming up i'll have better news about what comes behind these storms, for now, ukee, back to you. as you know storm left its mark on parts of the delaware county where thousands or without power tonight. lets get over to "eyewitness news" reporter trang do in havertown with the look at the damage there, trang. >> reporter: you can see here at smith's farms they are still cleaning up here. they are doing a great job but as we pan over you can see the base of where that wooden spiral once stood and debris scattered around the parking lot. take a look at that pile. those are the pieces of the -- silo came down but no one was hurt when strong gust of with independent brought down that silo, many consider a land mark in this area. the storm came through around 3:30 leaving the silo in pieces. and they spent one hearst

days away and security is a top priority especially in the wake of the recent police shooting in baton rouge an tall as. as tensions rise officers here in philadelphia know they will be extra vigilant. >> the department is stepping up its security plans for the convention to keep its members and public safe. "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos joins us from police headquarters to tell us more with it, greg. >> reporter: ukee, police commissioner here for philadelphia police department says the dna security plans are still being tweaked and worked on, this is as the fraternal order of police is urging its members to stay on a leather. the ambush and killings of the five police officers in dallas, and now three more in baton rouge understandably have our first responders on edge. >> ever since, even before the dallas tragedy took place they have been calling us about officer safety. >> reporter: in fact,

thousands including many protesters will soon gather here in philadelphia for the democratic national convention, does not add any comfort to an already tense environment. >> are you concerned that might what happen. >> absolutely, with the trend that has been going around the country with the violence, uproar, with the the police officers i'm concern. >> reporter: police order of police vice-president roosevelt poplar says he is instructing officers to remain extra vigilant and pro active in situations during the dnc to prevent violence before it happens. >> we have to take preventive measures to prevent things from happen, then we will do that as well. >> such as what. >> reporter: make sure we have enough manpower in place. >> reporter: but with the start of the dnc just seven days away, security plans are still in flux, for philly a's finest. >> we have to change some of our plans, in conjunction with our federal and state departments, we would be remiss if we didn't do that and so we're doing just that trying to take a closer look

at some of those plans where we need to make a modification and we will do that. >> reporter: of course, commissioner ross will not allow and the specifics of the security plan for the dnc. we are live at police headquarters, i'm greg argos for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". final preparations are underway in south philadelphia for democratic national convention. chopper three over the wells fargo center where, big events, a big event will take place next monday, several tents, have popped up in the parking lots as organizers get ready to welcome tens of thousands of visitors. our joe holden is at a one of a kind festival taking shape for the dnc. joe, one of the attractions i understand made quite an entrance today. >> reporter: ukee, it was very interesting if you were on the vine street expressway this morning as a replica of jfk's air force one rolled by the dnc despite their security concerns is saying still come down here, welcome mat mathis

out. there is no question it was a head turner, fuselage of the jfk's air force one roaming through center city. it is a replica of the plane. crews hauled it down vine street expressway in the convention center. it is expect to be a crowd favorite during political fest which will give people living in the delaware valley an opportunity to experience the the inner working of the political process. >> this opens up that process up to men and women and children who work, live and play in our area. >> reporter: democrats last held their convention in 1948, as far as political fest is concerned, it is a city that will host seven venues in center city. they will include a layout of the white house, replay of famous speeches and voting groups throughout the year. >> downtown will be wide opened, easy to access, it is all going to be opened. >> at this point laborers are putting the finishes touches

on the convention certainty. when it is all said and done 60 percent of it will be used to accommodate visitors. while workers aren't just about every where you look, behind the scenes, security is a chief concern. >> i think demonstrators here will democrat straight. >> reporter: dnc officials are anticipating disruptions primarily to traffic. but with multiple stages, soon to be set, there are assurances that appropriate steps are being taken to minimize potential threats. >> could something happen? it is possible but i think we have taken every precaution, and we have people working on it. of these seven venues they will be connect by philly phlash service, an admission fee of four to $10. the once again, welcome mat math, held out here for political fest at the convention center. live, joe holden, for cb136789 "eyewitness news". >> joe, thank you.

"eyewitness news" reporter rahel solomon has the warning from police. >> reporter: philadelphia police now on the hunt, for a man they believed, murdered

one woman and beat and sexually assaulted at least two to three others in kensington dating back to april. >> the description is very similar. >> reporter: police believe saturday night the man in the black and blue bike met the victim ricky morgan at cumberland and jasper shortly thereafter and attack her. >> some type of deal was made with the individual, we know they went to the back of the location, and during that time he beat her, he stabbed her multiple times, and she was able to run from that location but then she collapsed and succumbed to her injuries. >> reporter: investigators recovered a knife and break as possible murder weapons. victim morgan was known to be a prostitute, something that the suspect apparently target. >> it is a type in, 30 to 35 years of age, white females, prostitutes in the area, he goes, he has a conversation with him, makes a deal, he takes them to a secluded area and then he attacks them. >> police say there were ten surveillance cameras in that area. they have reviewed the video

on the cbs-3 healthwatch the gift of life, turns to summer fun, for a special group of kid. >> health reporter stephanie stahl in our montgomery county for the first day of cam top day always exciting. >> very exciting, that is right. >> camp is for youngsters hoff received the gift of life, many too young to know about the thousands of people who are waiting for life saving organ transplant, because there aren't enough donors.

it looks like some regular summer camp fun, but this is a special group of campers. >> i had a transplant when i was ten. >> reporter: she's 12 now, she and others at the blue bell camp know all about the importance of organ transplants. >> gives me a second chance of life. >> you just survived, through something that could have been life threatening. >> reporter: thinks 12th annual camp, program for young transplant recipient. >> they come together and they see that they are just like other people. >> reporter: karen tina with gift of life says transplant patients need medications and some have physical restrictions, and the youngsters can sometimes feel left out or different. the chance gives them a chance to share stories and enjoy summer activities together. >> we do archery, arts and craft, we swim, our favorite activity of the week. we also go bowling, we do tennis. >> reporter: it is all about fun and games but sad reality is 21 people died every take

waiting for a transplant. these kids are the lucky ones. jackie gliden survived two liver transplants. why is it important to be able to hang out with other kids who have have had transplant. >> kind of like you don't know each other and it is fun to talk about. >> reporter: now camp is name after counselor jeremy clemens who received a heart transplant at the age of eight but he died from complications when he was 23. his family wants to celebrate the many happy years he had after that transplant. today the first day of camp, would have been jeremy's birthday. >> that is fantastic. >> that is so nice. >> thanks, stephanie appreciate it. world's most beloved mascot creating good times off the field today. the phillies fanatic made his way through paul's run retirement community with rita's water ice for reese dents and staff in the fun. joining us was fun, was chris wheeler and phillies ballgames

man. >> doug always had his own flavor that he will bring to it. every head coach does mini camps and ota's were good for us. i'm looking forward to get to training camp and get these preseason games out of way and let's get moving here. >> i'm excited. >> me too. a lot of folks are. >> thanks. >> lets check with our weather forecast. we saw damage, tonight, a lot going on until the weather department. >> got report from new castle county about a large tree completely up routed from this evening's storms. nasty storms moving through. they are feeding off heat and humidity that we felt earlier, you want to necessity how hot and humid it was. temperatures got to the mid 90's. it felt hotter then that but these storms put an end to this heat wave. we have yet another heat wave on the seven day forecast. we are not done just yet. we will take you down the shore where this beach was completely pack. i showed this to you at 5:00 o'clock. now it is empty. storms are heading that way.

very ominous skies in ocean city. mostly folks are off the beach in time for these storms to move through. another look at how dark it looks down the shore on the live neighborhood network. at beach patrol headquarters in margate right now very dark skies, and basically behind the cameras, of course, looking east towards the ocean. storms from the west and this is what it looks like on storm can three. this line is continuing to push east, and it is really keeping its strength. it has heat and hood midty to work w these storms mainly non-severe for now there are a couple of warned areas, but as you can see these storms are weakening just a little bit. behind it we have another cell that has just developed near lehigh valley. not severe but another round of showers and storms moving through in the wake of the main push of storms that crossed the area this afternoon and is now aiming for the shore. lets's zoom in on this and see where it is. steady rain is over atlantic city and it is enveloping all of the shore points, heaviest rain still back to the west right along garden state

parkway, big slow downs here, lots of lightening with this as well and it extend in central and southern delaware on the border of kent and sussex counties. that is where heaviest rain is falling. you can see right at interchange here, atlantic city expressway, garden state parkway at exit number seven. you bic with us store, anyone hiding down the shore this is where it will slow you down. frequent lightening has been hallmark of these storms all day long. we will continue to see that is a we head through tonight. we have severe thunderstorm warning that goes until 8:00 o'clock. with once that first line is off the coast in about an hour the threat will sun side, but still, just shows thaw storm over the lehigh valley. still cannot rule out a pop up shower or then are storm this after a noon or evening right through 8:00 o'clock. then we have some relief in sight. it clears the coast tonight. tomorrow, sunshine, and it is still warm but much lower humidity. we will put an end to the heat wave. wednesday is best day of the week highs in the mid 80's, low humidity. beautiful day. we will heat backup on thursday, and then, compared to what we have felt like over the weekend and today,

humidity levels will be dropping, drastically. today was oppressive. tomorrow, still a humid range but wednesday right down to the pleasant range and thursday, looking a okay as well. so still some good stuff to look forward to over the next few days, and overnight, still strong thunderstorms outside, over the next couple of hours and gradual clearing once we get storms out of here. seventy-four is your overnight low. tomorrow mostly sunny, lower humidity. 88 degrees. down the shore we have a great stretch. clearing skies tomorrow, wednesday, thursday, looking fantastic. if only it could stay that way. look at the cool air, coming in wednesday and thursday, and look at that big bubble of heat over the south and that all starts to creep in by saturday, and that is when the heat really, intensifies, and we think it has been hot so far? look at friday, saturday and sunday. friday 94. saturday and sunday 98 degrees, both days, chance for thunderstorm. it is going to be scorching. >> that is serious heat. >> yes. >> plan a trip somewhere cool this weekend.
