people are cleaning up today after powerful storm slammed the area yesterday. the buildings were knocked down and trees blown over, and right now all of 2,000 customers are still without power. good afternoon, i'm brooke thomas. >> i'm jim donovan, parts of delaware county took the biggest hit, the damaging storms, even brought down a local landmark, that stood for decades. "eyewitness news" reporter joel holden is live in havertown where the clean up is underway. good afternoon, joe. >> reporter: jim, brooke, good afternoon, sizing up the

damage in the lynnewood section of havertown, see this giant tree just lying across here, the intersection of robinson and merill lynch avenues. now, it is pretty much tangled in some utility lines, these are not power lines, but, if you were to take a look at a map could you actually draw line from this neighborhood, and then clear across havertown, that is where we are seeing reports of trees down, all over the place, as you can see, there are no crews trying to tends to this right now because they're busy trying to work in other areas. in the middle of this tree, if you can make it out, that's crushed stop sign, just look at some of the extensive here this noon. >> just after 4:00 on monday, the lynnewood section of haverford township took direct hit. the storm packed severe punch delivering straight line winds. the intense winds, heavy rain, lightning, sent people running for cover. >> i could tell that the winds was picking up. so i went down the basement with my seven month old, and the dog, and heard big bang, and some whistling winds, but

didn't think that this was what i was going to walk out to. >> trees tossed about down. >> it was like nothing there. >> at the which is spams store, 40 year old silo crashed down, causing some damage it the drive-thru store, with the exception of the damage, no serious injuries are reported. >> it is pretty devastating, and after 40 years, sad, but now 30 years with new one. >> nobody was injured but see a lot of this tree stomp was hollowed out, and rotted, so quite the blessing this noon, because just picture it, if it had gone the other way, it could have cleared, gone into that house, or just taken out that yard there. so a lot of people counting their blessings this noon, of course, the latest question, what does the end of the us weather service have to say

during democratic national convention. baggage handlers, wheelchair handlers, other employees, demanding 15-dollar per hour starting wage and union representation. they hope arriving dnc delegates will embrace their cause if they walk out. >> riders of septa regional rails have another slow commute this morning, but septa officials say their problem should be corrected by labor day. that means, a long summer, but student returning won't be affected. septa pulled more than 100 silver line cars off the tracks after defect were found in the cars suspension system. and in the wake of police and race related violence around the country, doing what they can to change the trends. this morning, a peace committee meeting held at sacks' coffee shop in ardmore. focused on tonight innings like race relations and violence excalation solutions, participants included philadelphia police officials. local police chiefs and officers, and the chairman of the naacp main line branch. >> well, the luzerne county

correctional facility remains on lockdown, as officials try to figure out what started a fight that killed both prison guard and an inmate. law enforcement officers scrambled to the scene yesterday in wilt, barre, the guards who was killed has not been identified, authorities say the inmate killed was a 27 year old, who is in jail for failing to register as a sex offender. meanwhile the delaware county courthouse closed for the day, that's after fire in a garage forced an early morning evacuation. chopper three, over north olive and west third street in media, where the fire forced workers out this morning, about 8:30. crews used a whoever craft to blow some of the smoke out of the garage. there were no injuries, and the courthouse is expected to open as usual tomorrow. >> exciting moments for two construction workers trapped on construction crane. capturing the scene in boise, idaho, basket call fire. two workers on the lift quickly had no where to go as flames spread. once crews on the grounds were able to move the crane closer

watch as the camera pans to the right, see the glimpse of the 19-ton white truck veering left to right that is drives full speed into the crowd. the attack killed 84 people. >> meanwhile, 17 year old afghan as sigh almost seter shouted god is great with a tax, aboard a german train, may have been self radicalized, says note was found in the teen's apartment. isis did claim responsibility for the attack that injured four people yesterday. the suspect was shot and killed as he fled from police. in taiwan, 26 people are dead, after a tour bus caught fire. it happened on busy highway near the capitol. twenty-four of the people on board were visitors from china they were set to fly home this afternoon. the driver and tour guide, both taiwan east, no word yet what caused the fire. >> workers who take care of arlington cemetery walked off the job today. their protest comes after months of delays in reaching

yesterday, so did arizona check it out, stunning video from storms that went through phoenix from this summer's monsoon. heavy rain, wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour, battered the area. arizona traditional monsoon season runs through september, and can also spawn dust storms, man soon just typical reversal in the wind direction, which bridges in a lot of moisture, so this time of year the southwest does get its heavy rainfall, and there you go, pretty cool video right there. all right, we take it to the shore. back home though, it is a good beach day, little cloudy over us right now, will break out more sunshine this afternoon, jam packed beach, why not? temperatures very comfortable mid 80s, own and dropped lit little bit mid 60s, don't see whole lot of people in the water. still feels good to cool off. elsewhere across the region, similar numbers, 84 in philadelphia at the airport, 86 in wilmington, 81 in allentown, good stuff for this time of year. don't see it whole lot in july. seventy up in mount pocono, there are some of the coastal temperatures, low 80s in ocean

city, 84 degrees cape may. there is the ocean water at 62, so typical, right around the cold front passage where the south winds, yesterday, actually pushes the warm surface water back out to sea, and replaced by the chilly waters beneath. that's why we will get day or two of some cold water before it warm up again. high pressure just building in, from the great lakes, that's carving out nice area of clear skies, dry weather will block us from any rainfall still locked into dry weather pattern, up into the mid levels of the atmosphere, areas in greened indicates the moisture in the atmosphere, starting to move off shore, where all of the humidity is, dryer air moving in indicated by orange, will stay in place for at less 24 hours or so. humidity levels, drop through the day today. >> thursday start stone crease the humidity, wednesday the pick of the week. full on humidity friday into the upcoming weekend, we show you the shore looking pretty good. more sunshine later this
