the republican national convention. we also heard tonight some of from his children and the gop establishment. take a listen. >> 89 votes, donald j. trump. >> it was delegates from his home state of new york, including donald trump's son donald junior who cast the final vote to get the political newcomer over the top as the republican presidential nominee. he addressed the crowd remote from new york. >> we're going to bring back jobs, rebuild our depleted military and take care of our great veterans. we're going to go to have strong borders. we're going to get rid of isis and we're i'm going to restore law and order. we have to restore and quickly law and order. >> reporter: speakers hammered hillary clinton on everything from the economy to gun rights. crowd broke into chance of lock her up as new jersey chris christie ripped her like a

prosecutor going after a defendant. >> hillary clinton lying to the american people about her selfish awful judgment in making our secrets vulnerable. what's your verdict? guilty or not guilty? >> reporter: trump made a convention debut to place the man they know as dad and explained why america should call him president. >> he drives out the so they can achieve the full potential. that's a great quality to have in a father and better yet in the president of the united states. >> a president who has real people's families and lively hoods depending on his success for decades. >> speaker of the house paul ryan who expressed doubts about the nominee brought it home by telling the delegates come together to stop clinton. >> what do you say we unify this party at this crucial moment when unity is everything?

>> reporter: we're joined now by republican analyst allison young who is on the ground here in cleveland. you've been talking with delegates. i want to start we heard from the trump children. a lot of the buzz on the ground is especially donald trump junior. an unexpected surrogate for his father. >> the reaction to him was a strong. he's a powerful speaker, polished. people were applauding almost every line. tiffany was wonderful. and there was going on. people wanted to hear what she had to say. the trump children tonight are great surrogates. they talked about their dad as a kind and endearing and mentoring person with his unrelenting drive for success. these are qualifies i think people haven't seen yet in donald trump and the children started to deliver that message. >> reporter: what's interesting is they were really pro trump speeches, not anticlinton speeches, which we also heard a

lot of tonight and in the last two nights really, chris christie, new jersey's governor taking her to task tonight firing up that crowd. is there a point at which they should turn the page and really go more pro trump or do you think it's more effective to continue to attack clinton all the time. >> i think that's exactly what we saw tonight with the children. last night was about making america safe again. that was a lot of the anti-hillary message because it was all about a lack of leadership and a failed for an rent policy. that's a strong point for republicans, tonight we started to make a pivot with the children to talk about a optimistic view. what the -- what's i'm going to happen with the economy, what a businessman in the white house could prove to be for in this next election. i think they started to make that pivot and hit more on the policy points. i think it was effective. >> reporter: what are you hearing about the milania speech. >> there was a lot of buzz about it. i talked to a number of people.

position to do. donald trump very well polished political speech didn't add much. the worst part of the night was the continued bashing of hillary clinton. you know, at conventions it may be great in the hall but it's lousy in the nation. in other words, the speech that gets all the delegates. we have the base of the party revved up and people yelling lock her up. if you're an independent voter and you haven't made up your mind who you want to vote for you don't want to hear someone say lock a candidate up. of you don't want to hear someone compare hillary clinton to the fire of lucifer. tonight was supposed to be about the economy. did you hear one idea about what donald trump is going to do to improve our economy? not one idea other than he's i'm going to make america strong and make america straight. one concrete proposal? no. >> we have about 20's seconds. our turn is next is the city

ready? >> we're ready. i hope from the clinton standpoint we don't spend all of our time bashing donald. i hope we talk about what she wants to do and what she's done in her life. that will be far more effective. >> thanks for coming in. nicole? >> ukee washington the city of philadelphia of course continues to get ready for the historic moment in the political spotlight. crews are sprucing up neighborhoods. some people feel they're being left out. we're six days away from the democratic national convention. >> less than a week until the dnc, the city of philadelphia is cleaning up its act. >> call it filth delphia. >> that's not the kind of reputation officials wants when dignitaries come to town. they're hoping to shine a light on philly's history not dilapidated grounds.

>> here beneath i95 in fdr park, crews went to work that's become an illegal dump site. he says they can't keep up with the waste. and the property owners are being asked to do their part to keep homes and porches clean. the homeless population fears they will have no place to go. two men spoke to "eyewitness news" saying they've been told by the city the convention center and other traditional camp sites will be off limits during the convention. he says he understands. >> it is what it is because this is business. and people get they make it hard for guys like me and the ones that, because you got guys that -- they make it hard for trying to make it. >> the work continues specifically at the wells fargo center which is being transformed into convention central. >> if you want to look inside

national convention. >> 28-year-old thaddeus is one week away from the chance of a lifetime he'll speak in front of tens of how to when is he takes the stage. his name came to the attention of the democratic national committee through his work. >> reporter: are you nervous. >> a little nervous is an under statement. i think more than nervous. i'm honored and truly humbled to be able to represent, you know, myself, my family. >> reporter: desmond is a child advocate social worker in philadelphia and his job isn't just a job. it's personal. 24 hours a day seven days a week. he was once a foster child. 25 years ago his social work kathy desmond fell in love with him. >> he's adorable first of all. >> reporter: she's now his proud mother and says she can't wait for her son's speech. >> i feel incredibly proud. he could have made awful choices in his life. >> reporter: thaddeus told "eyewitness news" he wants to

. coverage of the republican national convention continues now. delegates takes care of business inside there is plenty going on outside. jess, you're in the middle of it all. >> good evening once again. when we got on the ground we wanted a to see what he said like to be outside the convention center, that's what so much of the focus in terms of would there be protesters, what would the protesters be hike, what would it be like in downtown cleveland. we set out to find out and here's what we found.

♪ ♪ . >> the trump train has gone to cleveland. spectators known around the street, even patriotic. >> i got to tell you everybody was so afraid of us coming to cleveland but it's awesome and the people are friendly. i have yet to meet someone who wasn't wonderful. >> reporter: the streets were peaceful but not without demonstrators. a local law enforcement from across the country was everywhere watching everything. check points greats and concrete barriers served the streets. downtown was quieter than they thought it would be and they were excited to see it for

explosive devices and fireworks. this happened at 20th and champlost around 9:00. a 31-year-old driver and two three-year-olds were found inside that minivan. bomb squad confiscated the explosives and the fireworks. police say it's not clear what the driver was going to do. of he was arrested and facing charges. the fbi is staying tight lipped about any possible evidence investigators found while searching the bay in ocean city. divers spent hours in the water near a fishing pier off route 52. it's tide to a criminal investigation here in philadelphia. authorities will not confirm the actual target. ocean city officials released a statement reassuring residents and revolves that the investigation is not due to any public safety threats. a community comes together tonight for a vigil in memory of a south jersey mother who was killed this morning. dozens gathered outside the quick stop deli in collingswood.

police say he fatally stabbed had us wife as the couple of's three children slept nearby. he's being held on $1 million cash bail. >> it's going to cost everyone more to drive on the pennsylvania turnpike. today the pennsylvania turnpike commission approved a six percent percent told increase for ends and cash users, it's said to take effect january 8th. it's needed to pay off debt in order to improve the aging turnpike. forecast and i think what we're expecting another nice day. then kicks kicks in. >> we got a break from the extreme heat today. >> something like it was in between pleasant and --. >> that's a good place to be, this time of year, you can get humidity due points levels in the 50's. it's amazing. doing a couple of showers and storms that formed this evening, mainly over eastern maryland if you are in central

or southern delaware, something to keep an eye out for possibly a stray shower or thunderstorm popping up over the next hour or so. i'll show you that in a moment. let's take a look outside. you can see down the shore. there's folks out on the boardwalk tonight. it's 11:20 but the a boardwalk is lit up. of as of right now, things are looking pretty good right now for folks walking on the boardwalk. the ferris wheel lit up. stormscan 3 you can see the storms over portions of eastern virginia earlier. clouds to the shore points but in the wake of those storms, another round has developed. this is mainly around dc and near baltimore. you can see this one big storm near dc. what we're watching are the showers and thunderstorms moving into portions of eastern maryland around the tall bet area headed south and east. if you're in kent county or sussex county this could impact you over the next hour or so,

does have heavy rain. rest of the region look quiet for now. a little shower possibly clipping portions of south jersey. a few showers and storms popping up mainly off on the south. they're suppressed thanks to that air from the northwest keeping us comfortable. 77 right now. 72 in allentown. due points starting to rise to around 60. they tend to increase a bit at night and then drop tomorrow. nice day tomorrow with high pressure overhead. upper 80's tomorrow. friday, heat starts to come back, hot, humiding big bubble of heat over the country's midsection starts to lift to the north. you can see it building on saturday. saturday looks to be the hottest day of the year so far and turning more humid as well. pretty awesome right now. right on the borderline there, tomorrow looks good, thursday and friday steaming up and going to be hot as we head to the weekend. mainly clear and comfortable for
