thousands of southwest's lines flight nationwide. we are live at philly international to see how it is impacting travelers here. temperature is on the rise, my, and lauren says hottest stretch of summer is right around the corner. >> today is thursday july 21st good morning i'm jim donovan. i'm brooke thomas. lets get started with a look at weather and traffic. lauren, meisha, katie is out today. >> we always do. good morning. happy gateway. a lot going on in the world of travel. we are dealing with the house fire that has boulevard closed down. we will get to that in a moment. heat will be on but we're catching a break from the summertime scene this morning. temperatures in center city philadelphia almost to the 60's, can we make it but start to warm things up probably not but 71 is your current temperature right now. clear sky conditions with a little bit of haze there and southeasterly wind and they are calm at this hour. temperatures, they are cool as we look to the north and west

60 degrees, open up those windows, catch that air in allentown. we are at 51 degrees in mount pocono, lower 60's along the coast and looking at our neighborhood network i peck up our former spots, milford 59. fifty-six in kutztown. bethlehem at 60 degrees for our current temperature, might need that light jacket in some places, but won't need it in the second half of the day. we are at 86 in the city. mostly sunny. slightly letter humidity heading in the second half of the day. high temperatures topping 89 degrees. but we will push them up in the order of the 10 degrees as we head in the upcoming weekend and excessive heat watch for the entire area, so we will talk about where those temperatures are heading as we head into saturday and sunday. maybe you want to know maybe you don't but we will have the answer in a few minutes. >> better we do know, right? thanks very much, lauren, good morning everyone. i want to call your attention at the desk talking about this a couple minutes ago.

we have a house fire live chopper three is over this house fire on roosevelt boulevard southbound at rising sun avenue, outer lanes of the boulevard are closed. we have seen a lot of crews and we have a lot of people out there walking around. it sund like one person was injured, they do have the fire under control right now but again, the boulevard is now, closed off. make note. moving on i want to show you boulevard taillights moving in the west won direction approaching conshohocken curve and lets get in on other news we have an overturn tractor trailer involving a fuel spill near levittown. route 13 southbound at tyburn road, on and off ramps are closed right now you so make note that will slow you down. i want to call your attention to something that happened earlier, this ace fatal crash involving a pedestrian in nicetown wissohickon avenue is still closed right now between roberts avenue and hunting park avenue. use an alternate fox street or germantown avenue is your best bet. we have construction out there as well, a lot going on this

will join us live to talk about last night's developments at rnc. we will look to donald trump's speech tonight. trump staffer has come forward saying she's the one who stole lines from michelle obama for melania trump's speech. meredith mciver offered her resignation but says it was reject. she apologized and said she read her passages from michelle obama's 2008 speech. mciver said she did not check the first lady speeches before approving her suggestion. donald trump seems ton enjoying the controversy. g.o.p. nominee says good news is melania speech got more publicity then any in the history of politics especially if you believe all press is good press. this morning we're learning more about a big rally hillary clinton is planning in philadelphia the day after she formally accepts her parties nomination for president. event will be opened to the public on independent mall on friday july 29th. if you'd like to go, rs vp on hillary clinton.com.

democratic insiders say clinton could announce her running mate as soon as tomorrow. she will campaign in florida on friday and saturday and two cap dates emerge as possible choices. they are agricultural secretary tom vilsack and virginia senator timothy kane. the president and philadelphia police officers union is not happy with the list of speakers at next weeks dnc. john mcnesby criticized clinton campaign for not including widows or family members of the officers killed in the line of duty. mcnesby told "eyewitness news" by phone he is upset mothers of michael brown eric garner and sandra williams will be speaking. you this all died during an interaction with police and their death prompted public protest of police officers. >> it is salt in the wound by having, you know, these speakers up there and supporters of this anti police movement. >> clinton campaign say former police commissioner charles ramsey is set to speak and we have just learned joe sweeney

a former nypd detective from 9/11 will speak to delegates next week. developing right now delays are expect to mount at airports across the country including philadelphia international for anyone flying on southwest airlines. >> a computer glitch is behind the mess. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch is live with what you need to know if you are traveling day, justin. >> reporter: no doubts frustrations are all over the country and here in philadelphia there is no difference. take a look at these lines behind me. several customers found out through phone alerts in this line that their flights have been cancelled 56789 flights to philadelphia never got here and that was the case across the nation. wednesday afternoon this took off. southwest reports seeing tech issues in these operations. service representative, hit the web site and being called a computer system outage and that triggered a ground stop one airline left some 700 flights cancelled and hundreds more were reported delayed.

thousands of southwest passengers found themselves in long lines and deeply frustrated. flights came back on line, this morning is there a backlog of flights to process and passengers to serve. many feel their time and money had been wasted. >> i have to drive down here and your flight is cancelled. it is frustrating. >> reporter: yes. >> especially if i have to come back here tomorrow so i have to drive back home and then drive back here tomorrow morning. hopefully they can find something this after noon. >> reporter: looking live, again you are seeing lines snake around the airport this morning. many are trying to rebookman you'llly with gate agents at kiosks which appear to be down this morning. we told but a similar outage in october 2015. we can tell thaw southwest is investing hundreds of millions of dollars in upgrading, a computer system and that

should roll out by 2017. we are live, i'm justin finch cbs-3 "eyewitness news", back inside to you. well, philadelphia police are investigating several shootings in the city overnight n overbrook a man was shot the in his car in the driveway in the 5800 block of wood crest. he tried to drive away but hit two nearby parked cars and died at the scene. police are looking for at least two suspects and they are reviewing surveillance cameras for clues. another deadly shooting this one at intersection of the cambria and masher streets in the fair hill section of the north philadelphia police say that someone shot the victim 14 times including five times in the head. he was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead shortly before 2:00 this morning. so far there are no arrests. gun violence continues, a 15 year-old boy was shot in the frankford section of the philadelphia. police tell "eyewitness news" this shooting on the 4800 block of griscomb street stemmed from an argument on the day before. police rush victim to the

hospital where he remains in critical condition with the gunshot wound to the stomach. police are interviewing a person of interest. more on that fatal accident, meisha has been talking about. police say someone who might have been drunk hit and killed a man in nicetown. it happened just after 3:00 on the 4300 block of wissohickon avenue. you can see suspect white bmw was heavily damaged. police found alcohol in the driver's car. more than 1,000 atlantic city casino union workers planned to surround the taj mahal later today with picket signs. local 54 has been on strike for three weeks now and it doesn't look like the two sides will reach any agreement anytime soon. hospitality workers walk off july 1st demanding better health care and pension benefits. despite the walk out the casino has remained opened. still ahead several brush fires burning out west but this one should have never flared up. wait until you see what was caught on camera that has

back on "eyewitness news" parents of the little boy killed by an alligator at a disney world resort say they will not sue disney. lane graves mom and dad say a lawsuit cannottably their little boy back. melissa and matthew graves say they plan to start a fund days in their sones name instead. it was last in when an alligator pulled two-year old little boy under water at grand floridaian resort. lawyers for bill cosby are trying to question comedian's accuser in the sex assault case before the casings to trial.

philadelphia hospitals, and the emergency operations center as they get ready for the democratic national convention center. the biggest health concern is hot weather expect next week with lots of protesters expect outside on the streets. there is risk for becoming dehydrated. misting tents and the water will be available for protesters on broad street. delegates aren't only ones looking forward to the dnc in philadelphia next week, local business owners hope that the 50,000 expected visitors will translate in big money. talk of the town has already started to see dollars roll in. >> we don't know what we will expect but we have a taste of it already. some people are here, workers down there working setting up for the convention? last time philadelphia hosted a national convention was the rnc back in 202,000th when the citibank 345 million-dollar. in other news residents of the horsham montgomery county are learning more about water contamination in their community. dozens of people turned out to a meeting hosted by law firms
