5:46 am
network, couple of pretty sunrise pictures coming into us. we sends you out to greg wood's picture, he sent this in from upper township in new jersey. yep, just some pretty colors. like a pastel right out there. and that's pretty much what you are finding else where, as well, lynn springer reporting incredible sunrise, cherry hill area of new jersey, and megan also bringing very similar view for us. let's go next to list format of some of the temperatures we're finding, very, very mild, and pretty muggy i'll say to start the day. little breeze any some spots, kerry in mt. laurel at 71 degrees. barbara, and multiple report here, see if we have any other 60s, john in perkasie with 68, and pair of six's from mark in chats words. so definitely warm start to the day, warming up in advance of what frankly is going to end up being relatively weak frontal boundary. cluster of heavier thunderstorms across illinois, don't worry about that, this little cluster precursor what will be crossing through later
5:47 am
today which is isolated showers and thunderstorms, one of the storms do come in, they could have little bit of gusto with them, so off to the north of the city specially is where we will likely see some potential store stronger thunder storm as the day goes on, quiet for now, most of the day it will stay quiet. what we were talking about, the heat index, for tomorrow, sunday, monday, especially, that's where we will be feeling like the triple digit. it is slightly less humid sunday. that's why it is only a hundred as opposed to 104 or five here. but regardless, that's some pretty brought al stuff guys. please take it easy out there. try to seek out the air conditioner. and if you feel, just don't feel right, go inside where it is cooler and more comfortable. but look at this, every day of the next seven, featuring 90 degrees or above. and couple of thunderstorms along the way, but meisha, a obviously hoot it is the big story in the weather department for days. >> yes, i am going to pull out my banana slip and slide this weekend, katie, and just going to slip and slide all weekend with my host and sprinkler.
5:48 am
you guys, we have an accident out here involving a tractor-trailer, 95 south past woodhaven road. make note of. >> this getting this cleared out of your way. but take a look at the backups starting to form as you maneuver around this, because the right lane is closed. so we will keep an eye on the backups as they form. if you are headed out here 95 south again past woodhaven, give yourself couple every extra minutes, until they get this cleared out of the way will only continue to build as we push into that 6:00 hour. so looking busy there, also, the schuylkill eastbound, before spring garden, as you move into center city what you are looking at. starting to see maybe couple of brake lights, i'll say we are starting to heat up little bit. usually though once we push into the 6:00 even in the 7:00, on friday, yes, it get busy, but it usually tends to hold steady on friday. so, this is what you are looking at right now, nonetheless, we push toward the 6:00. and in new jersey, first lock here on 42 freeway northbound take that to 295, what you are looking at, not bad, i would say fairly typical. also construction here new jersey turnpike southbound between route 73 and route 168. that left lane blocked until
5:49 am
6:00 a.m. so another ten minute or so on that. commodore barry bridge, westbound, that left lane is block, for those every you taking the bridge this morning, and also, some more construction, route 322 closed, at route 54, until around 6:00 a.m. in fowl son, new jersey, so for those of in you and around this make note, 322 closed at route 54. jim, over to you. >> well, if you don't have a slip and slide like meisha, the hot temperatures will have many of us heading to the beach this weekend to take cool dip in the ocean. >> "eyewitness news" reporter pat gallen live in brigantine where the beach patrol is ready to keep swimmers safe. >> look at david hasselhoff! >> reporter: yes, good this morning at the brigantine beach, let me put this right over here, we're good, we're good. this going to talk beach safety. good morning. >> how are you guys doing? >> doing great this morning, i'm loose now, the heart is pumping. so it will be a hot weekend. it will be full beach. what does that mean for you guys? >> that just means a lot of
5:50 am
crowds, a lot of people in the water, water has been beautiful, water has been 78 degrees yesterday. so, just look for, you know, big crowds, have a great weekend out here. >> talk to us a little bit about beach safety. we see some of the lifeguards going out here, rescue for everyone back at home, but talk to us about what it is they do and what it is you do? >> our guards are basically in charge of 4 miles of beach. and we have stations, you know, positioned around the islands. basically their job is to keep everyone safe. they go up and down with the water, keep close to the water, any situation that happens like practicing right now, the guards have tools to go out there, usually have a can, someone will go out and float with a buoy, rescue boards, rescue boats, just generally you know, here to make sure everyone goes home safe. >> this looks like they're doing pretty decent job hereof getting this victim on to the boat. they throw the can out to them. what's this process normally like for say rookie lifeguard coming out here? >> our rookie lifeguards really won't use the boat that often.
5:51 am
this is so they get, sends them on the can most of the time or on the board, most of the senior guards take the boat. >> i am rest i have, fast, already in the boat. that's good. you guys are working hard over here. so talk to us about brigantine beach and how much, how much you have to work with here, because you guys have a lot of beach. >> yes, we have 101 lifeguards on patrol this year, 4 miles of beach plus in you lifeguarding in the cove area. so we've expanded our zones of coverage little bit this year. >> yes, this job keeps us busy averaging 800 rescues a year, 800 times the lifeguard goes in the water to help someone back in. we'll average about 500 beach rescues, or beach lost children somewhere in the 70s to 100 people, their kids wander off for few minute, nothing serious for the most part. guards are always here to help
5:52 am
people. >> so it will be hot this weekend in the 90s down here, really warm and not much rain. has that meant more work for you guys? >> haven't had a break this year, times it has rained, rained at 5:30 at night, after work hours. but those guys have done a great job, guys and girls on our beach patrol have been amazing this year. the job they come out and do every day is tremendous what they do. >> jeff, talk to you again in the 6:00 hour. thank you so much, my friend. so when we come back in the 6:00 hour, we will talk about the junior lifeguard program. you can start as young as three, four years old? >> four years old, you can go and start learning how to swim. >> incredible, four years old learn how to swim. you can one day too be a lifeguard at brigantine beach. back to you. >> they have tough job out there, thanks, pat, check in with you in the next hour. and we will be right back.
5:55 am

6:00 am
