happening this morning, democratic national convention committee will unveil the stage and podium here, all part of the final touches, now being put into place, ahead of opening day of the dnc on monday. >> announcement made soon from hillary clinton, could announce her vp pick as early as today, virginia senator jim cane, and ago secretary, said to be on clinton's vice presidential short list. both seen as having a loft executive experience. >> hillary clinton made indications most concerned about experience, wants to double down on experience to contrast what she sees is lack of experience and lack of seriousness quite frankly in donald trump presidency. >> now, new jersey senator cory booker and massachusetts senator elizabeth warren were also rumored to be in the running. clinton is campaigning in

florida today, and is expected to make an announcement in that state. >> back here in philadelphia, the clinton campaign now has the democratic party office open near 15th and cecil b. moore in north philadelphia. democratic members of city council were on hand last night to celebrate. volunteers in this office will work to get clinton elected as well as other democrats on the ballot in november. and, of course, security will be tight here in philadelphia, over the next week, during the dnc. "eyewitness news" got an exclusive look at how the us coast guard has trained for this event. crews from the atlantic city air station will protect restricted air space during the convention. if an aircraft violates the no fly zone, coast guard is the first line every defense. now, back out here live in south philadelphia on the ground, see all of this tall fencing now in place around the wells fargo center, so the security is ramp up here, so are a lot of other activities around the city, this is the first day of political fest, and coming up in the next half hour, we will take a look at some of the sites and sounds that you can experience over

with cbs news and of course your "eyewitness news" team right here on cbs-3. well, new this morning, police are looking for the gunman who shot and killed a man at point blank range year old victim was found dead on the scene, surveillance cameras may hopefully help them finds the suspect. david randall behind bars facing numerous charges after he allegedly hit and killed his six year old girl, while driving drunk. police in dover, say, randall was driving while intoxicated wednesday, when he road up on the side of the walk, on the sidewalk, excuse me, and hit six year old anya jackson, her mother and a family friend. all three victims were rushed to the hospital where jackson died. randall is currently being held on $34,000 bail. >> the nba announced its decision thursday to move the 2017 all-star game originally scheduled to be played in

looking outside right now, what you can see, all of that smoke, this is an accident involving a vehicle fire. woodhaven road, taillights are moving in the eastbound direction, at millbrook road near 95. you can see it is blocking part of the left westbound lane, as well, for those of you in this area. we are starting to see backups right now, starting to form. you can see it clearly, crews are out there, we've got obviously the fire crews, we also have people out of vehicles, walking around on the road. it is pushing you all the way onto that far right shoulder. you can see everyone trying to get on to the shoulder and get single file lane going. so this will really slow you down right here, then on the westbound side, you also have a lot of the gaper delay taking a peak at what's going on, not to mention the fact that they have this left lane blocked off, as women, so this will really slow you down this morning, guys. take heed. i would probably say give yourself extra 30 minutes, at least, or wait until this clears. so, right now, kind of a messy situation out there. looking outside of 95 south at cottman, one of the areas that we know heats up, it is

it is a hot, sunny stretch for the most part, shower, thunderstorm today, probably another one on monday evening, meisha? >> katie, thank you. right now, you guys, we have live chopper three over an accident involving a vehicle fire, that's now been put out. you can see, this one person was transferred to the hospital with minor injuries. this is taking place woodhaven road, tail light moving in the eastbound direction, at millbrook road, this is near 95. the left lane of the westbound side is also blocked off. you can see, right here, as we go further back, with chopper, that they are being pushed all the way off to the shoulder to try to come around this accident. you can bet this is going to slow you down little bit for those of in you the area, chopper three giving us wide shot view of who is all crawling up to that, and again, once you get up to the accident, you're going have to be filtered on to the shoulder. stowe will slow you down little bit. make note of that. good thing that's not on

>> brigantine police beach patrol helping the future of lifeguards learning what it takes to be a member of the team. >> "eyewitness news" reporter pat gallen is live at the beach in brigantine this morning, with details about this summer program for teens. good morning, patrick. >> good morning, getting little sweat in here this morning in brigantine with the beach pa troche troll -- beach patrol. feels good with this winds in my hair, mist hitting me, beautiful morning, this is lifeguard in training program, they're getting ready to become lifeguards here on the brigantine beach. and look, 12 to 15 years old, they already know what they are doingment and this man right here is the man that leads them, senior lieutenant dan. good morning. what are these kids doing? >> we have group every kids doing can run, going out to man on the paddle board, then back in, for over here, that's paddle board run. they are showing their skills on the paddle board. >> so you have 12-15 year old out here right now, how many?

>> this morning we have about 25 kids. and the program we have about 45. >> this is the second year and already you have got 45 kids signed up. >> yes, that's correct. >> we still have some kids that show up and want to do our program, our numbers are kind of full for now. >> i never heard of this program, at least on the southern beaches, where did you come up with this idea? where does this come from? >> we have a junior guard program that starts from nine years old up to 15 year old, and couple of years ago i thought about having a better way to prepare kids to be actual lifeguards. and we heard that lbi has a program for lit's, lifeguard in training. we went up there last year, we visited, very impressed with what they did, they were very helpful to us, and we decided to bring it here. >> so what's the level of kids obviously, they know how to swim, but you have to teach them little bit more than that. >> yes, we're teaching them the skills that an actual lifeguards can do. sort of the same skills that they learn as when they become

rookies on the beach patrol. we also put them through our actual test, meaning, that the distances, the actual distances, the swim, the run, even the row, if we get, you know, small enough ocean we will take them out in the bo boat, as well. >> one of the biggest things we'll do next monday coming up, we will take them to lbi. there is a lit competitionment last year we went up therefore the first time, kids had great time, did very well. so we're very excited about that, as well. >> this almost seems like no brainer that the beaches, you know, south would follow suit. because you want to get these kids ready to become actual lifeguards. why not? >> that's correct. it is my hope from brigantine all the way south to cape may that more and more beach patrols would get involved with this. and hopefully even on the south beaches, we can get a lit competition going on. i mean, we pull kids right now, most of the kids are local kids, but we pull them from as far west as mays landing, we even just neighboring towns sending kids

like atlantic city, we have couple of kids from atlantic city even a kid from ocean city in our program this year. >> you guys are full already this year, already into it, but if parents want more information, for future reference, where can they go? >> just contact our beach patrol headquarters. we will give them any information they need. we already have the dates set for next year. so, you know, it is basically the same time frame each year. month of july. we do three days a week, two and a half hours a day, and these kids work hard. they keep coming back for more. >> well, i am a little bit too old 12 to 15, little out of my range, but maybe one day i'll become a lifeguard. i always wanted to be, jim, brooke. i think my time may have passed though. >> this is such a great experience, good for those kids. >> very, very good. >> thanks so much, pat. well, those lifeguards won't have to run and rescue any of these guys, dogs from across the country are hanging ten in an effort to impress surf judges, and land a spot in the rose parade. >> the dog surfing tryouts
