we're very, very proud of philadelphia, of this building , of the work done here and had will happen here. >> reporter: friday dnc opened up wells fargo center to the public for the first time in months, and convention starts monday, and will welcome prominent local and national democratic leaders who will speak each night. it conclude thursday with candidate hillary clinton officially accepting the parties nomination for president. for volunteers like barbara mc kens hoy will be working in the hotels, with the delegates this may be the only time that she sells the wells fargo center during the major event. >> i think we will do wonderful because that is what we are, you know, we're the city of brotherly love and sisterly affection. >> are we going all the way for hillary, all the what the to the white houseworks men power. >> reporter: dnc follows rnc in cleveland where police were seen wearing heavy protective gear, protest there is were largely peaceful. dnc officials expect a similar outcome here but will be using a different approach. >> police will not be dressed in riot gear, they are in their every day a tire, riding

philadelphia, that is monday night at 7:00 o'clock. donald trump is declaring the republican national convention, one of the most beautiful and loved filled conventionness history. trump thanked volunteers in cleveland today, he down played the party infighting. he said conservatives should vote for him because he is the only candidate who will many in nate conservative justice to the supreme court. >> no matter what you think of donald trump, as a republican, if that is what you are philosophy is, if you are a great, great believer, in the constitution, you have no choice. hate to say it. >> one of the big themes in last night's speech, crime. trump rattled off list of statistics and said he would restore law and order. hear is somewhat he said. >> homicide last year increased by 17 percent in america's 50 largest cities. in our nation's capitol, killings have listen by 50

president enrique penanieto did not comment on trump's criticism of mexico's border security but he looks forward to frank, open dialogue with the next american president, whoever it is. after four days of convention excitement, republican delegate are heading home fanning out all across the country. so what comes next? shopping center in munich, germany. part of the rampage was caught on camera. gunman shot and killed at least eight people, eyewitnesses say one of the gunman was still in surgery. no word what led to the shooting or possible motive. this is by the way the second attack in germany this week. police shot and killed an afghan teenager after he attack five people with the ax and knife on the train. well, back home now it has been a warm week but temperatures are on the rise and heat will soon reach dangerous levels. meteorologist kate bilo joins to us tell us more about what is coming, kate. >> more of what we had today, that is on the way this weekend but it will only get worse, today temperatures were in the low to mid 90's in the region and that is where we will sit right now. temperatures falling off daytime highs, 92 in the city. ninety-four allentown. twenty-nine in reading. factor in the high humidity and feels four or five degrees warmer then thermometer indicates. feeling like 98 in philadelphia a the last night 99. allentown feels like 96.

at one point today that feels like temperature was up to one hundred and one degrees and we are just racking up 90- degree days. this is ninth one this july so far, this season so far we have had 17. if the forecast pans out like it looks like it will by next time next week we will have 24 days in the 90's. our average number of 90- degree days in the summer is 23, a and this will be only by the end of july. this is a very long stretch of 90 plus degree heat, and we now have an excessive heat warning to tell you about, it starts tomorrow morning, it continues through monday, afternoon, a long stretch of this, saturday and monday being the worst with heat index values between 1105. we will talk about coming up ways to beat the heat whether with pets, kid or just out and about and we will talk bower next chance for thunderstorms in a few minutes. ukee, back over to you. well, there is a lot more still ahead on "eyewitness news". a special need family from florida, tries to make it to

police opened up fire hydrants here so kids can get some relief. we will talk to a meteorologist who has been dealing with this heat for the past few days, cbs news radio steve baskville joins us from w bvm in chicago. steve, we have seen road melting and you guys have been living this in chicago for the past several days. we're just gearing up for it here in philadelphia tell us how it has been feeling for the past week or so. >> well, i will tell you, kate , i have a king sized thermometer back here that represents the feeling, we had yesterday especially. that was the start of a hot weather around here. it is not that it is extra extreme for us, it is the length of the 90 plus days we have in the been used to. this is the hottest streak we have had since july back in 203 of four straight days, yesterday to day and weather we're expecting over saturday and sunday. so, 88 degrees, i know that doesn't seem that extreme but look at the way it feels this this afternoon, like your

weather, it feels like it is 105, that is just south of the city, around gary, and we have not reach the hottest part of the day yet. we will get triple digits around here. we had some areas west of the city anywhere between 105 and 113 under the heat decks and it is all pushing toward your direction. we will get a break, by the way that little open space for us that means by manor so we will start to feel better but i think your stream may even be longer then our four days. it could extend, i any to next week, that right. >> yes, steve right now i'm forecasting nine straight day in the 90's. i know you are familiar with this weather. i hear you work here at one point, grew up in overbrook and heard you talking about a dripping cheese stake. i think we will be dripping sweat into our cheese steaks here over the next few days. >> you know what, kate, i said

so, who is it going to be? presumptive presidential nominee hillary clinton is expect to reveal who she has selected to be her running mate anytime now. and stage is set for hillary clinton's to make history, organizers unveiled sprawling set up for democratic national convention right here in philadelphia. and tonight, drivers in the region will begin to feel security impact from the dnc.

"eyewitness news" continues a at 5:30. i'm nicole brewer in for jessica dean. aim ukee washington. we are three days from the opening gavel of the dnc but traffic restrictions begin tonight. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff joins us from old side i with though details , alex. >> reporter: most of these closures will be around the wells fargo center but when it comes to city streets that will depend upon police activity or motorcades. we will take place on a rolling basis if at all. when it comes to penndot they have a game plan and that is already in motion. the first adjustment to head of the convention will hit a at 8:00 p.m. with the i-95 exit ramp to broad street to be closed off for the next week. south broad street from packer avenue down to the navy yard and roadways surrounding the wells fargo center and fdr park will be closed off as well. that will take effect at noon time tomorrow and then continue through to next friday. >> we're here. now time to execute. >> reporter: also as of noon tomorrow. >> any vehicles over five tons will be prohibited from traveling on nine miles of

investigators say the gun man shot and killed, eight people and calling it a case of terrorism. "eyewitness news" said one of the gunman was killing children no word what led to that shooting or possible motive. we will stay on top of this breaking news stories and bring you latest information as it becomes available. right now louisiana police officer killed in an ambush attack over the weekend has been laid to rest. the hundreds of mourners gathered to say good bye to 41 year-old matthew gerald, one of the three law enforcement officers fatally shot at a convenient store on sunday. a deputy sheriff will be laid to rest, tomorrow, a a funeral for the third baton rouge officer is set for monday. tonight we are hearing from the trauma surgeons in louisiana who tried desperately to save the lives of the three fallen officers. they were called a very solemn scene in the hospital, where the injured officers were brought in. three of the four officers were too gravely wounded. doctors say they did everything that they could. >> the three officers were expired were too far gone when
