"eyewitness news" reporter greg argos is in the satellite center and you spoke with the special agent in charge about planning for the convention. >> reporter: that is right, there nicole, security for the dnc has been in the planning stage for a year and special agent in charge says all this planning taking shape when security measures go in effect

tomorrow morning. the fencing is up surrounding the wells fargo center. with the democratic national convention starting on monday, the security plan is about to go live. >> we have gone through a very extensive, ten month planning period and we are down to the final day. everything essentially goes live tomorrow afternoon. >> reporter: in an exclusive interview with cbs-3, james henry, secret service expect agent in charge of the philadelphia field office says his team is ready to pro tech those vip's heading in to philadelphia for the dnc. what are your biggest security concerns. >> i get paid to be concerned but i have seen this plan evolve over the last ten months and i have been to the wells fargo center i can't tell you how many times ape walk perimeter and walked wells fargo center. i'm very confident with the security plan we have in place >> reporter: henry says this plan has been reassessed and tweaked after terror events like the truck attack in nice. >> we do account for many different things, something like the truck attack in nice, to something small scale, somebody trying to climb the

there to bring it all to you starting sunday night at is 11:00 o'clock. organizers unveiled the stage. mayor jim kenney is proud of the local union workers who transformed the wells fargo center in to convention hall. >> it is just amaze to go see ate transformed the way it is for the national world stage. we are very proud of philadelphia, of this building , of the work done here and what will happen here >> reporter: crews are still very busy, they are still inn freighting the balloons that will descend upon the crowd late next week. that is not the only place deck out for a political party , the pennsylvania convention center opened up political fest to the public today, exhibit includes an oval office replica and air force one fuselage. convention center is serving as a base for delegates and media during the convention. the salvation army is gearing up to help first responders stay high traded during the dnc next week. workers loaded up trucks with cases of bottle worker. the city of philadelphia purchased the water which will be distributed to law

a similar challenge. she has had to convince bernie sanders follow their she represents their interest as well. the ball is in her court in philadelphia at dnc. i'm cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". in other news tonight search continues, for three gunman who went on a deadly shooting rampage inside a shopping center in munich, germany. part of the attack was caught on camera. investigators say gunman shot and killed at least eight people and they are calling it a suspect case of terrorism. eyewitness eyewitnesses say one of the gunman was targeting children no word what led to the shooting or possible motive. switching gears to weather right now, we are dealing with some dangerous heat in our area and it will be hanging around for quite a bit. lets check with meteorologist kate bilo in the cbs-3 weather center, hi there kate. >> this is just getting started to day was a hot, humid day, only going to get worse before it gets better and thing about this heat wave is length of it. it will last right through possibly the end of next week

for the entire dnc will be hit for unusual heat this time of the year. what we're not used to is this stretch of it. we are at 91 degrees in philadelphia 29 in reading: temperatures have fallen back off daytime highs but you you can see with the humidity in place it feels like upper 90's feels like 97 at the airport. ninety-seven in allentown and trenton as well. and excessive heat warning, and and, between 1105. so far, today is day nine in july of 90 plus, and this season so far 17, and if the forecast pans out by next friday we will have 24 days in the 90's this season. an average hot season in philadelphia has 23 days in the 90's and we may reach that number before july is even finish. so this will be a very stressful stretch of weather on all of us. coming up we will talk about our next chance for showers

of the coal front. as we do that that is when we will get push of heat and humidity to increase, monday may even feel hotter then tomorrow. temperature wise, they are close. but those are 29 worst days of this stretch. it doesn't look like we will get relief any time soon. looking outside shows a warm, hazy, humid evening, in center city philadelphia we have got patchy clouds out the side, that will be the case for tonight as well, but, feeling tropical here overnight and temperatures staying in the 70 's and dew points stay high as well. quick look at time lapse video from nazareth a area middle school shows that we have had some haze, on and off, a few clouds, today but otherwise sunny and hot and still 90 degrees there in nazareth with the west wind and these wind will be out of the west tomorrow, west wind is a a very warm wind for us because those wind like like to down slope and we have higher terrain and mountains over central pennsylvania. as those wind down slowed over mountains when air moves down the slope it tend to dry and heat up. that is what we will be feeling as we go into tomorrow notice showers and storms started to form.

we have one to watch right here that is heading for mount pocono. mostly missing us to the north we have a couple thunderstorms over portions of southern new england. showers and storms over west virginia and kentucky. right now not much has popped up but still cannot rule out a spray shower or storm or tonight. in the meantime temperatures still in the lower 90's. we can see core of the heat, wichita kansas 104, right now and all that heat pushing east through weekend. when you wake up in the morning tomorrow these are morning lows 78 the morning low in millville. feel like 79 when you wake up in wildwood. seventy-seven morning low in philadelphia we will not get much relief through the overnight hours: today it has been steamy and oppressive. notice how steamy it gets. we are in the insufferable range with dew points in the lower zero seven's saturday. monday humidity drops a little bit on sunday. something to look forward to something like that because it is not a whole lot cooler but will feel better on sunday then it will tomorrow and monday. so ways to beat the heat,

gave "eyewitness news" a behind the scenes look at how they train future life guard. young people and life guard in training program were hard at work practicing drills on the beach and in the water just as the sun came up this morning. they are taught swimming, rowing, paddle boarding and how to make a rescue. there are 101 life guards on beach patrol and they stay very busy especially in the summer months. >> thanks for what you you do. here in philadelphia we will be filled with visitors for the dnc but one family of tourist is here to celebrate the movie rocky and its message of determination. >> health reporter stephanie stahl is here with how rocky actually helped a kid. >> it is incredible story about fight ago begins the odds and winning. the lesson learned from rocky balboa is to never give up.

so when this cancer patient got some bad news, she kept thinking about rocky and his fight, and today at steps of the art museum she celebrated an important milestone. >> we made it, yeah. >> reporter: it is a long, difficult journey for sandy, and her family who live in illinois. she was diagnosed with breast cancer, ten years ago. >> the doctors pretty much looked at me and said they didn't know if they could cure it and we were really thinking i was than the going to survive. >> reporter: smile on her face she endured surgery, chemo, radiation, her inspiration to survive came from the rocky movies. >> how he kept working to get up steps. >> reporter: sandy's took on rocky a's determination to fight cancer and planned to follow his footsteps up the iconic steps. >> this christmas she told us this was our big gift to go together. >> reporter: here in filose are celebrating your life. >> yes, really, we are, celebrating my life and my family's life. >> reporter: yes, there we go. >> even they have t-shirts for

the occasion, sandy's motto, faith, strength, courage. >> everybody is so friendly here. it is a great feeling. >> we are here. we have never been to philadelphia amount beautiful city. >> reporter: for sandy's husband of 38 years it is bitter sweet. >> she's my best friend. >> i'm very happy for her but it brings back bad memories. this is first time i have been here with my wife. >> reporter: she beat the odd and new time to climb. >> i hope i can do it. >> reporter: sandy's journey, also included two knee surgeries. >> doing great, mom. >> reporter: with her husband two sons and girlfriend they take on 72 steps together. >> how are you holding up. >> doing. >> catch may breath. >> sorry, wish i could run. >> no need for speed here, sandy wears pink gloves to honor her inspiration. >> made it, cancer free, cancer free ten years.
