with jim bao and meisha is in the traffic center and we'll tell you which roads won't be available because of the dnc. first. >> a check with katie of toda today's forecast. >> we're starting the morning off with nasty storms across the western suburbs. this is a pretty heavy thunderstorms, folks, outside of philadelphia county now through chester, portions of montgomery and bucks. as we put things into motion you see how it developed and blossomed within the last hour or two. a lot of frequent lightning and heavy downpours and severe thunderstorm warning posted until 5:00 for all the portions shaded in yellow. portions of philadelphia, dell korks montgomery, and bucks bucks counties as the cell migrates east. and, it's very likely as well, that it maintains its strength that we could see that severe thunderstorm warning get shivtd further east with time.

we'll let you know. another half hour of that severe thunderstorm warning. heat alert until 6:00 this afternoon. excessive heat warning in the hot pivrk up and down i-95 and burnt orange for rest of regio region. heat continues to be main overriding theme it's already 80. soupy outside. very warm obviously in philly and everywhere else and as the day progresses we and we're going to have a new record on hands come this afternoon. 97 anticipated high with strong thunderstorms late in the day as yet another frontal bound i have scheduled to cross through the area. it's a steamy one for show, meisha. >> all right, katie, thank you for that. good morning, everyone, happy monday, welcome back. what we're talking about today, obviously, with dnc is town there's a lot of closures. there's quite a bit. some weren't on the radar last week. there's some new ones. here are the flashing lights.

here are closures for dnc looks like construction. 95 off ramp broad street closed northbound and southbound. basically through friday. also, 95 both sgrexs between vine and platt bridge. no vehicles over five tons are allowed between the two points and also 5 north and south, northbound to bartram and south ram tonight vine are closed. that's what it looks like all week for us here. vine eastbound off ramp to 95 now is also closed. and also i'm going to pull your attention to the map. take a look at this, guys, these are closures around the wells fargo and fdr park. broad street. those are so. big ones. i'll tweet this map for you as well and take a look at this, schuylkill eastbound off ramp packer avenue closed between 2 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily and broad between washington and packer no packages in center median rather parking in the center median and i'll tweet this as

together with a focus on the future of american families and the economy. and taking that stage today some heavy hitters. first lady michelle obama and senator bernie sanders but this morning "the buzz" in the mrir world surrounds resignation of national committee chair woman debbie wasserman schultz. she made the announcement yesterday saying she'll step down from the position at the end of the dnc. that decision follows publication of hacked emails that suggest the dnc favored clinton campaign over sand irz. sanders released this statement debbie wasserman schultz has mate the right decision for the future of the democratic party and party leadership must also remain impartial in presidential nominating process something that did not occur in the 2016 race. wasserman schultz was appointed to the position by president barack obama in 2011 and presumetive nominee hillary

clinton had this to say. i'm grateful for debbie for getting the democratic party to this year's historic convention in philadelphia and i know this week's events will be a suck sis thanks to her hard work and leadership. here's take a listen. >> she thought this was a distraction and chose for the give the election and convention to step aside at the end of the cop vengs and let someone else tate helmet to the dnc. >> wasserman schultz will assume a nationwide campaign management position and coming up in the next half hour we'll check in with local delegates and number of protesters here in town for the dnc you'll want to stay with us. brook and jim back to you. >> thanks a lot, jam jan. >> safety is day one. the city has its own war room and emergency operations center it will handle influxle delegates. property test he's area there's

no threat against the city and traffic restrictions near the wells fargo center are, trucks 5 tons or more can be a proble problem. >> there may be truckers over that weight limit that did not get that message. we're clear that type of vehicle will be prohibited from raffling the routes you eluded to. so, commuters should and that. they should be patient. >> while significant numbers of law enforcement officers are on the street no one is saying how many. and if you drive around south philadelphia expect a warning from the philadelphia parking authority during the convention it's towing cars parked in the median on south broad street. towing started on sunday morning. cars towed by ppa will go to swanson street lot and you have to pay a $51 fine. >> hillary clinton and running mate tim kaine are planing a bus tour through battle ground states pennsylvania and ohio aft dnc.

they'll talk about economic issues in harrisburg and pittsburgh. eyewitness news learned two candidates will appear at public rallies and smaller events and clinton kaine ticket gave their first inview last night to 60 minutes. clinton explains why she picked tim kaine. >> i want somebody who will be candid and will tell me, hey, i don't agree with this or could you think about it somewhat different limit i don't think i have all the answers. i think that we'll be a good team. i believe we'll work well together. i believe that he will give me his best advice. >> kaine added he is a utility player and has the governing experience to help clinton have a successful presidency. republican nominee trump will visit two battle ground states today. trump is scheduled to campaign in roanoke, virginia and winston salem, north carolina aand wednesday returns to pennsylvania he'll rally

the scene. they caught the suspects and right now they're being questioned. the 24-year-old man was shot several times including in the head and died at the hospital. eyewitness news reporter justin finch will have a live report in the next hour. >> this morning, delaware state police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in dover. it happened around 8:20 last night at apartment complex 51 webs lane. state police say troopers were called for a man with a gun. they say what they arrived the man ran off and began firing and trooper returned fire. troopers were able to arrest the man after a long foot chase and none were hit. the man has not been charged yet. this morning several people are in the hospital after this crash involving a septa bus and a tractor-trailer. it happened yesterday evening at the intersection of lansdowne avenue and providence flowed delaware county. and investigators say a jeep pulled out in front of the bus and crashed into it. and then the bus crashed into the tractor-trailer.

>> back on eyewitness news dallas cowboys buses involved in a fatal crash in arizona the bus collideded with a van on highway 493 killing four people in the van. bus was carrying staff members not players. some suffered bumps and bruises and we're told the bus was on its way to las vegas for an afternoon fan event. >> fire fire fighter hes are battleing a fire in southern california. ferocious flames burned 18 homes and forced 1,000 people to leave and the sand fire broke out in santa clarita north of los angeles. 200 fire fighters are tackling flames on the ground and planes and helicopter. one firefighter was hurt. >> it's that time of the year we're dealing with fires everywhere and it's awful. >> absolutely, there's nothing necessarily you can do about the weather except try to get ahead of it and which way the

winds are going and as far as we're concerned the heat is still main story and we got immediate problems with strong thunderstorms currently moving through and part driven by heat and humidity. that's where we turn our focus here. heavy duty thunderstorms rumbl rumbling in. we have a severe thunderstorm warning posted for that until 5:00 we're dealing with potential 60 mile an hour gust gusts, hail, lightning evident and successfully heavy rainfall out of this too and this it torrential and will slow you down if you get stuck in that. if you are about ready to hit the road you could try to weight this out and not have to deal with it at least in terms of the immediate storm cell. there may be leftover ponding on the roads though. frontal boundary needs to cross throughout and later on that nudges us to additional showers and thunderstorms. take a look at heat index value u. high noon in triple digits and many pushing centsry mark inful

and you get into. it hot pink showing up on future heat index you know it is getting brutal and that's how it feels later today with the heat and rather excessive heat warning continuing as well as heat advisories. come later tonight though the temperatures drop off in terms heat index not only because the sun is going down but also because we'll see stronger thunderstorms rumble in here. with that we'll take you to the 7-day. temperatures in the 90s all week long. today, i would say is the wors worst, though, because the hul hultty is at its worst right now. meisha. >> yikes, all right, katie, thank you everyone. happy monday. what a great week to be in philadelphia with the dnc in town and what we're seeing is a lot of closures already. only 4:40 in the morning i can tell you now it's underway and getting busy out there especially as you try to maneuver around the closeers. what we're looking at now this is the closer for the dnc and that's what we'll talk about all morning long. 95 broad street closed. take a look at this. these vehicles now getting

through here they're only going to the naval yard. 95 both directions between the vine and platt bridge. no vehicles over five tons will be loued and by the way there's checkpoints. if are you over five tons you will be stopping there are checkpoints everywhere. 95 north and south, northbound off ramp bartram and south ramp to the vine. we have checkpoints and we're waff watching them line. off ramp to 95 another check point. we were seeing them pulling someone here a little bit ago as well. closures around wells fargo and fdr. we'll talk about this in ten minutes. over to you. >> the hot weekend made things tough for a youth group when their bus broke down. take a look. until energy state police say the bus from asbury park recreation youth program broke down leaving everyone stranded. after making sure they were safe and had a we to get to final destination this trooper bought several cases of bottled walter for everyone. >> well, coming up on eyewitness news if you're near

philadelphia. if are you waking up with us perhaps it's the thunder. look at torrential rain coming down moving its way into philadelphia county. frequent lightning and clearly heavy rain and possibility of gusts that could peak as high as 60 miles an hour if not small size hail. in the meantime the other story is the heat. we will be not only nearing but expect to have a new record on hands later today. the high will hit 97 in philly and keep in mind it feels hotter when you have dew points as hot as today. kicking off dnc with a bang. looking forward in the forecast the 90s continue. humidity drops off tomorrow. but still scorching day. in the sunshine we hit 95 and then low 90s continue through wednesday, thursday, friday, and each and every one of those days we have a shot for a shower or thunderstorm. so, we deep going for the most part here. i would say meisha, today, is the most brutal.

with you. >> reunited. >> and it's pretty cool philadelphia on the national and international stage. really, really cool to be here and coming up following road closures and there's many, many of which starting now that we were not talking about last week. a lot of new stuff. certainly interesting week here in the city and starting off with a bang in weather department. and we showed you storm scan very, very strong thunderstorms right now rumbling right into philadelphia. and much of the majority of the outlying suburbs here. we got heavy duty thunderstorms rumbling in here and frequent lightning and potential for 60 mile an hour wind gusts and small size hail out of these. so these are pretty nasty storms right over philadelphia county and immediate vicinity we still have severe thunderstorm warning. once this gets through we should clear out for the majority of the day. and later on today we are going to see a fresh round of showers and thundersno
