we nominate hillary clinton to be the first woman president of the united states. >> history approaches, hillary clinton is inching closer and closer to receiving the historic nomination from the democratic party for the presidency of the united states. but bernie sanders supporters are making their voices heard. good evening, everyone i'm's ukee washington. day two of the democratic national convention right here at the wells fargo center in south philadelphia. hi everyone i'm jessica dean. we are here watching history, taking place as hillary clinton will become the first female to be a major parties nominee in the presidential race. now lets take a live look right now at roll call underway, that is when all of the delegates have gathered here and they are casting their votes, for whom they would like to nominate. we want to get to alexandria hoff live on the convention floor with all of the delegates and all of the action, alex. >> reporter: it is certainly busy. roll call began about 5:25,

with alabama ape continues in alphabetical order. we have maryland and new jersey is not far from taking the mike so far from our area delaware is providing nine votes to senator sanders and 23 to hillary clinton. hillary clinton has earn a majority of the votes. sanders supporters are enthusiastic. have one in this room anxious to lend a hand to history. former governor ed rendell got himself right up front and center to bear witness. >> it is a great moment for america. it is a great moment for democratic party. great moment for women for fathers, daughters. it is a great moment. i don't have daughters. but i'm going to have faith in hillary clinton. >> reporter: to determine the next democratic nominee for president, and reporting live from the floor of the democratic national convention i'm alexandria hoff, now back to you. >> thanks very much. thanks for that. sea of black lives matter

protesters continue to make their voices heard as they march up and down broad street >> lets go to "eyewitness news" reporter joe holden live near city hall with more on that, joe. >> reporter: jessica and ukee black lives matter demonstration moved swiftly around city hall. street is still shut down behind me but police confirmed for me that this protest has been peaceful. >> about an hour behind schedule, black lives matter demonstrators get on their way , leaving from broad and diamond. >> shut it down. >> shut it down. >> their message to bring attention to excessive, deadly force by police departments across the country. >> our race, personal color and i'm's here to fight for revolution and justice, for eric gardener, and sandra bland. >> reporter: philadelphia police kept a watchful eye over the demonstration, a couple hundred people made up the march. >> we all need to come out. we need to to what we need to do for our family. >> reporter: he brought his two kid, they depict notable figures in the civil rights

>> a lot of excitement. people casting votes for hillary clinton and bernie sanders. i'm joined by pennsylvania delegate and montgomery county commissioner doctor valerie arkoosh and a strategies who worked in the george w. bush white house. it is a little tight here on the floor as you can imagine. first question for you doctor arkoosh, talk to me about bernie sanders speech last night. when i came in yesterday people were booing when they heard the name hillary clinton do you feel this is a more unified convention on day two. >> i think we're moving in that direction. i thought senator sanders speech was great and made a unequivocal call for unity. i talked to my pennsylvania delegates who were bernie supporters and they say for the most part they are coming around to voting for hillary clinton. they know and they are celebrating, accounts as they had a wonderful impact on the platform. we are very exited to get behind them. >> what did you think of the speech last night and what you have seen today. >> i think what senator sanders really appealed to

people but there are a lot of people left behind. i talked to some of the pennsylvania delegation today who said atmosphere here is still very tempt and although last night was cathartic, it is still a lot of division. that will prove to be a contentious night this evening >> do you think bill clinton will settle that tension. he is big head liner tonight a lot of bill clinton fans, can he do that. >> i think what president clinton has a tough job ahead of him. hillary clinton disapproval, her negatives are high 60's inn he has month make her likable. that is a tough drive-in front of the audience tonight. also senator sanders supporters really are not bill clinton fans. they don't like his legacy policies on free trade and hand in the pocket of the wall street. they think, his speech might be a hot fork in the eyes. >> doctor arkoosh i would bet money that you disagree with that point. what do you think of the former president, number 42 bill clinton coming out tonight. >> i think he will give a warm welcome tonight. he is an incredible

"cbs evening news" with scott pelley at 6:30 live from the wells fargo center. cbs news will have live prime time coverage every night at 10:00 followed by "eyewitness news" at 11:00 right here on cbs three you mention that had sound trek i didn't want it to stop. >> keep singing, alycia. >> that was great. we have to stop, right now and throw it back to the studio with nicole. >> ukee and jessica, thank you in other news nation's criminal justice department was topic of the major discussion in philadelphia today. district attorney seth williams joined panel of leaders at the field house in center city. they discussed ways to solve crisis of mass incarceration. philadelphia certainly has highest incarceration rate among country's ten largest city. d.a. williams offered up solutions. >> my job, i believe, as a new paradigm of american prosecutors to do all we can to prevent crime, and to do all we can to reduce repeat crime so people don't get over and over and over again. i tell everyone if you want to

help me prevent crime, invest in early childhood education. >> the city was recently award i a three million-dollar mc arthur grant to cut the incarcerated population by 34 percent over the next three years. recent police involved shootings across the country have tensions at an all time high. "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan shows us how talking about the issues can go a long way to help ease the tension. >> ♪ >> reporter: performing and teaching music is rodney bradley from lansdowne passion he taught a life lesson to four boys in his choir. >> they were talking about the violence in the world and how come cops they don't kill anybody except african americans all the time. >> reporter: bradley let the boys age ten to 14 express their opinions but soon realized they had extreme views. >> one thing that bothered me was when one of the guys said that they were happy when the children, when the officers in dallas got shot. so that is a major red flag.

>> reporter: after leaving restaurant where they were talking bradley started a darby township police vehicle and despite protest introduced them to deputy chief brian paterson. >> he explained to me that the kids have have a mind set that police were all bad. >> reporter: paterson says at first the boys didn't want to talk to them. the as they opened up he addressed their concerns. >> very small percentage of police that have have done some bad things, you know, in whole, we are good people, we're here to help you. >> reporter: boys were receptive to what he had to say. >> by the end this were smiling, shaking my hand. >> reporter: bradley says in the 20 minute interacting there was a remarkable mind set transformation. >> unless we use those teach able moments and have these courageous conversation was them they will never know. >> reporter: paterson and young men said they have plans to see each other again next tuesday august 2nd for national night out which is an evening throughout the country where police departments host events with the intention of connecting with kids in their communities. in lansdowne i'm cleve bryan,

assistants play an important role. when eagles hired jim schwartz the fan base got fired up and now he becomes a co-star at camp. leslie van arsdal has more on day two of the training camp. it is a new year and a new look for the philadelphia eagles, and, head coach to coordinator, and that brings to us jim schwartz the new man in charge, when it comes to the the defense. >> we're not rocket science. we are in the trying to re invent anything. >> reporter: it is that blunt, sometimes fiery attitude that makes him so popular with the players. >> he doesn't take any crap. he is always, makes sure you are accountable that is the biggest thing i like about it. he is a no nonsense type of guy but they just want you to play, and be fast. >> only thing that matters in this league is wins and losses i will take 42-41 game. i might not sleep well afterward but i'll take it. >> reporter: he notices everything, green hair is kind of hard to miss. >> person highlighted his hair or something.

days, so, 95, 92 the high today. feels good compared to 97, and 95. we will take 92 degrees, after what we have been dealing with certainly what we went through yet but we do have some cooler weather back to the 80's eventually in the seven day forecast but before we get there we have threat for some thunderstorms. lets get in to it. we will start off with a look outside this evening, beautiful looking night outside, humidity not all that bad, it is not great we are not in the pleasant or awesome range but it is better than yesterday. dew points in the 70's yesterday, today in the 60's. temperatures in the lower 90's but there is a breeze, it is not too bad in center city this evening. storm scan three shows us a few patchy clouds, that is about all we have got going on in our region this evening. you can see on storm scan three there is a front stalled off to the south and that will stay off to the south until late thursday when it will activate back north. what we will be watching for the next few days are kind of a series of disturbance that is will track along this

boundary hitting ever closer to us. this would than will miss us to the south and west. showers and storms other west virginia, virginia, back in the ohio this evening. tomorrow a better chance for scattered showers and storms, mainly to the south. then we will get in on the action again here in philadelphia on thursday. temperatures right now in the low 90's. we are at 91 for the moment. ninety in wilmington. eighty-nine in allentown. eighty-two mount pocono. this is coolest day so far in this particular heat wave. it started on friday at 94 degrees. we will peak saturday and monday as predict, temperatures got to 97 both days. sunday, back to 95. today 92. not feeling too bad out there comparatively speaking. this time after showers and storms. tomorrow here's tomorrow afternoon couple spotty showers and thunderstorms could pop up over south jersey and delaware tomorrow afternoon, and evening, that then clears out but another disturbance track us. we have these showers and storms in the afternoon. then perhaps a chance for heavier rain or thunderstorms from the city on south,

thursday night into friday morning, yet another chance for scattered afternoon thunderstorms, on friday. so are rain chance coming up, ten percent chance tomorrow, we are up to 30 percent on thursday, 50 percent chance of rain on friday and we will keep percentages high on saturday as well. thunderstorm chance returns but heat does start to break a little bit. tomorrow still hot at 92 degrees. down the shore better over next few days, temperatures will be in the 80's. eighty-four tomorrow. better chance for showers and storms down the shore as well on thursday and friday. eyewitness weather seven day forecast does have thunderstorm icons on it, we will keep an eye to the sky right through the weekend and after thursday we are back in the 80's and next week we could start to see dryer air moving in. just stay humid this weekend but we are in an improving pattern. >> that is good. >> okay, we will take that, kate, thank you. still to come on "eyewitness news" thousands gather for a record break ago tempt with a unique question in mind. >> what would do you if you

whenthe state made aers, commitment to us. i knew that i wasn't going to make a fortune. but i would have a secure pension plan when i retired. each and every one of us made that contribution from every paycheck we ever earned. they've been negligent in their responsibility over the years of not funding this pension the way it should have been funded. they have made a promise, they've made a commitment, and they need to stick to it.

woodill joins us now. you have talked to smart kids and they told what you they thought. >> i did, kids really have a way of making things super simple. and while this political process has been anything but simple, ask these kids what they would do if they were president and all they need is 15 minutes and a notebook. if i were a president, i would try to help out the school district in every state. >> reporter: question our presidential candidates will be trying to answer for the american people until november what i would do if i were president. >> if i was president i would want to give everybody jobs, and then all of them will be happy. >> i will plant more greenery. >> reporter: in a partnership with the city of philadelphia and mighty writers a youth literacy programs thousands of children put pencils to paper on the art museum steps thinking like candidates while trying to break the record for the most young writers in the same place at the same time. they are hoping to get in the
