>> pelley: back now with the democratic national convention. scott pelley with norah o'donnell, bob schieffer and charlie rose. our cast of correspondents on the convention floor tonight. bob schieffer, the word "trust" came up frequently in president clinton's speech. speaking about his wife. what's the point in trying to make that? >> schieffer: i think they're trying to drive down these polls that show that 68% of the people don't trust her. i mean, that's an astonishing number, i've never heard of anything like that. shy also say same polls show they don't like donald trump any better or tri-him more than they trust her. but they got to get over that. they got to convince people and she does, i think you saw the beginning of that tonight.

look, this is the night's first, this is hard working person this is not the person that you may think she is. she's responsible, she's a good mom. she's got a good record in public service. and she's a person who has been put in positions of trust and has been trustworthy. we're still not past on the female business yet. that obviously had an impact. >> o'donnell: bob, thank you. nancy cordes you're there on the floor i was out with delegates earlier. when bernie sanders put hillary clinton over the top to make her the first woman ever in history to win a major party's presidential nomination, women i was with from missouri were crying. it's a historic moment. >> it is. it's interesting, because hillary clinton herself doesn't talk all that much on the campaign trail about the fact she's making history. there's a concern that it was a

message that she expects people to vote because she's a woman. that doesn't mean other people can't talk about it. michelle obama talked about it, you'll hear it tomorrow. doesn't get any more clear than the signs that they handed out tonight that say "history" as this is definitely a message that the campaign wants people. even if it's not hillary clinton herself who is delivering that message. >> pelley: had people running all over the arena delivering the right signs at the right moment for people to hold up. john dickerson down near the podium. >> dickerson: you think about a former president speaking, a sitting president, the vice president speaking, this is the establishment. this is government. argument that the clinton campaign is making is that government can work if you have the right person in there. that is such a different message from the republican message that government is a disaster, it needs to be broken apart totally

destabilized by donald trump. sit gets to a fundamental question, people think the government can be reformed. the part of that pitch, you hear these stories, bill clinton told one about hillary clinton working with tom delay, working with george w. bush, lot of democrats are suddenly getting very supportive of former republicans, the way to make the stage that hillary clinton will build bridges between two parties when people think politics is totally broken. >> rose: to barack we'll hear three words, trust, change and work. >> o'donnell: hearing warmth from the from the podium. great melodies from alicia keyes who will be introducing hillary clinton who is going to join this convention hall.

it was much different. we were dealing with temperatures feeling like the you triple digits. we were dealing with heavy rain. today, much more bearable temperatures that may have been the reason we saw larger crowds now and earlier on broad street. philadelphia police had to detain several protesters tuesday after some were seen trying to hop a fence into a secure area into the wells fargo center. . also on day two of the dnc hundreds marched on broad street beginning in north philly and ending at city hall. the protesters came from all over the country, but their message was singular. organizers tell me they're protesting the death of black men at the hands of law enforcement and use of excessive force. >> we have a social and injustin issue injustice going on >> while all were welcome to protest alongside the group, this struggle is one that solely
