will tell you when heat wave end and when flash floods could be an issue for our area "eyewitness news" at 6:00 starts right now. it is 6:00 o'clock. the here's is what happening, live at floor of the democratic national convention where the excitement is building, because historic nominee hillary clinton has arrived in the city and we are awaiting president obama's speech to the delegates, tonight. vice-president joe biden will speak tonight, as well as the vice-president nominee tim kaine, here on the floor of the dnc at the wells fargo center. good evening, i'm ukee washington. aim he jessica dean. great to be with you this afternoon. we have team coverage for you, joe holden is once again, with protesters in center city philadelphia and our greg argo s is live on the convention floor. let's start with you, greg. >> reporter: good evening, there jessica and ukee. we're live here up in the

stands with some of the delegates. i can tell you that the anticipation, excitement is building with many folks i spoke with we have that all-star line upcoming here to speak to the delegation in just a few hours. president barack obama, vice-president joe biden. take a look, you can see some of the chairs are empty but you can reza assured once the speech begins in a few hours from those two men this place will be packed. day three of the democratic national conn convention, history being made, for hillary clinton becoming the first female presidential nominee of a major political party. >> for delaware, new jersey and pennsylvania delegates like gisele featherman those tears of joy may be tears of excitement as the president and vice-president are expected to speak tonight. >> we're moving and listening to them in the lifetime how likely are you get to do that

and i will get to do that in the front row to do that. >> reporter: delaware delegates are thrilled to hear from their home state speaker. >> today i expect the most awesome vice-president, joe biden, to deliver a winning speech to motivate the audience and then we get to hear from the president. >> reporter: nearby in a new jersey section. >> last night at the convention center it was rocking. >> reporter: peg schaefer says if anything can top last night 's historic roll call vote. >> i move that hillary clinton be selected as the nominee. >> reporter: it will be tonight's two speeches from president obama and vice-president biden. >> barack obama, terrific speaker. joe biden i think will talk about her foreign policy and how competent and capable she is. >> reporter: i can tell you president obama on air force one is expected to land around 9:45 tonight, so that gives you an idea as to when he may speak. he will have a direct route coming to the wells fargo center. live here at the wells fargo center, i'm greg a argos for

cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thank you so much for that. questions still remain on how tight, how united the democratic party really is. >> some of the bernie sanders supporters, took to the streets to protest to daze and our joe holden is there with them, we will go live to them in center city now, joe. >> reporter: jessica and ukee, as we have demonstrated in the plaza across from city hall, all day but this is as toned down as we have seen. in fact, it is more of like i dance party up here on this stage. we also heard from green party candidate, jill stein, just within the last hour. but the bernie sanders people who are out here, they are not giving it up, in fact, they are calling this a peaceful rise up, and revolution. there have not been any incidents on this hot wednesday afternoon in center city, many of the officers, thaw can see, have been taking a break, make that now jill stein's folks. she's the green party

candidate. the crowd was energized. that is significant in explaining how the narrative has shifted out here on philadelphia streets. as we have been telling you all week thinks where you'll find the division in the party many of the signs out here less than flattering toward hillary clinton. as they part company with bernie sanders. >> the whole process was rigged against them. that is not the a process i'm for. of course it is for bernie. >> as we pull away from the stage a little bit you can see some officers behind me from philadelphia police, they are staying hydrated and taking a break and it has been a long day. this is third day out here, and there are two more days, including hillary clinton's visit to independent mall on friday. again, no but we will continue to keep an eye on things. live from center city, joe holden for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". thank you very much for. that. you can see activity in center city right now.

and that will have an effect on traffic both in the morning and afternoon. >> especially when the president gets here later lets go to meisha johnson in our traffic center, what sit looking like. >> good evening, you guys. we have been talking about the dnc closures and checkpoint restrictions all week long. we will continue to do so for the rest of the week. i will show you three checkpoints. we are looking at one, 95 north at platt bridge, left lanes are closed, leading up to these checkpoints. also, no vehicles over five tons are allowed past these checkpoints, and also, you have an evening flight, make sure to give yourself extra time. looking very slow. the five north around platt bridge. the second one this camera shot is like at 59 south at girard but 95 south at the vine is where checkpoint is. again, you have lost that left lane. the it is slow moving around here as well. checkpoint three eastbound vine to 95, this camera shot is showing between broad street and vine, checkpoint at the vine also looking slow. we can also see some slow downs over here. we had an accident in the westbound direction that has

now been since cleared. i want to show you this alternate, you guys, this is what you want for i-95 moving in the northbound direction, flat bridge, 26th to the schuylkill and vine and reenter 95. looking to move in the southbound direction you will take this and you will flip it that will get you there. thinks the best alternate for 95. also i want to call your attention to this, d in. c closures. ninety-five ram tops broad street northbound you are completely closed. southbound you will have access to the navy yard but it is completely closed southbound direction, between 2:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. schuylkill eastbound ram tops packer avenue no parking on south broad street center median. a lot of this will be covering all week long, and again, this is one of the height of our rush hour times, and so these checkpoints are really going to come into play as well as closures, use that alternate, ukee and jessica, back over to you. all right, meisha, thank you very much. mayors from all over the nation gathered in philadelphia, around city hall for a forum on lbgt equality.

>> members of the members of the discrimination coalition include jim kine, greg stanton of phoenix and washington d.c. mayor bowser. they difficulties cowed how current policies focus on eliminating discrimination against lbgt community can impact passage of the federal equality act. that bill would amend civil rights act to include protections banning discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. over in olde city, a historic marker goes up in commemoration of the philadelphia's role in the lb gt civil rights. some heavy storms to talk about through the end of the week. mainly thursday night into friday but could continue right through the weekend, so we will trade one problem for the next. lets take a look at what is happening outside. take you down the shore we have some will folks still enjoying nice warm day in ocean city, we have heavier storms rolling through the shore points mid afternoon, heavy rain, street flooding in sea isle but now things have cleared out and people back on the beach enjoying the end of this day. here's a live look at middletown ship high school ate cape may courthouse as well. clear skies. 82 degrees. not too bad there. showers and storms moved off the coast and everything is quiet on storm scan three. notice there are showers and thunderstorms, there is a lot of shower and thunderstorms to our south, that is part of the system that could be impacting us over the next few days as that front lifts back to the north and an area of low pressure track as long it. we're still hot 93 in philadelphia. and that should be our high for the day. ninety-two in reading. ninety-one in wilmington. cooler down the shore.

eighty-three in atlantic city and wildwood. dew points in the zero seven's down the shore, delaware. 77 degrees in dover. very humid. humidity has dropped north and west of the city. much nice inner allentown with a dew point of 57 right now in the mount pocono, 56, it all depend where you are. it is an impressive spread of dew point as cross the region. future weather shows us a quiet night tonight. tomorrow a different story. scattered showers and storms tomorrow afternoon. some could be locally heavy, all of the red shading here with the storms. they are not every where but anyone of these thunderstorms could produce local liz heavy downpours much like what we saw monday evening here in philadelphia and this will continue on and off throughout the overnight hours thursday night into friday morning and watch this, big batch of rain could miss us to the north but is there a chance that this moves further south, and certainly impacts us friday morning. that could slow you down here and heavy rain with that. even lingering showers and storms friday afternoon. so, flash flood watch goes into effect thursday evening what that means is anyone of these showers and thunderstorms although they won't be every where could produce torrential downpours,

leading to flooding on the road. for yourself thursday hot and humid with scattered storms in the afternoon. more numerous storms thursday night and friday. that is true for shore as well , back to the lower 80's friday and saturday. dodging showers and thunderstorms, thankfully here in the city most active thursday night into friday but then we have shower and thunderstorm activity possibly on saturday but certainly sunday and monday as well. stay there we will have much more when we come right

well, delegates are in town and they are working hard but it is not all work and no play. >> city hosted a play date of sorts for delegate families. vittoria woodill was there. this is a day of play extravaganza. >> it was an extravaganza. >> yes. >> there was so much to do, you know, what was really fantastic about what these families did today? no only were they playing but they didn't realize they were learning too. >> it is time to play. >> that is right kid, today was a day just for you whether you are cribbing in the dry, covered in color or hand on having a ball, were you all smiles. this day of play was dnc's

only kid focused event where thousands of families gathered at city hall for a free day of fun on behalf of philly play. a program that encouraging healthy play for 60 minutes every day. the big kid behind it philadelphia a councilman bobby henon. >> this is a play day, extravagance, 2500 kid are here enjoying the healthy play day and in the weather with the fountain. we have libraries, we have mural arts, pop up philly clarks film i play works, people who are just teaching kid how to play with each other. we are trying to educate these kids, while playing. >> reporter: it looks like it is working. >> yes, we had played in the fountains and everything. we did a lot of stuff. we ate rita's water ice. >> did you learn anything new. >> that when you are doing that you are supposed to put it in and hold your hand in the back and hold it better. >> while many were learning new trade, chase even learned a little bit about herself. >> i was scared because i'm a
