>> this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news" this morning. new this morning, a crash on roosevelt boulevard, four people are hurt, what police say happened at the hospital. >> also, ahead, tragedy in texas, "eyewitness news" describes the horrifying hot air balloon crash that killed 16 people. happening today, the eagles hold open practice at the linc, a first chance for fans to see this year's team in action. today is sunday, july 31, good morning, i'm rahel solomon. let's get your day start wad check on weather. we turn to justin drabick, ending the month of july certainly on humid note. >> you got that right. really bringing some heavy rainfall once again to parts of the area. really depends on where you are today. we could be dealing with heavy downpours, seeing the showers outside right now, so little rough on the roads, in some

spots, if you are headed out early this morning, especially from the city on south, and eastward, i think we get a break later this morning, but into the afternoon, once we get the daytime heating we start to fire up more showers and storms, in the city right now, we have low clouds, little fog, reducing visibility, little bit. authorities see the tops of some of the sigh scrapers, current temperature 75 degrees, light breeze out of the southeast at 6 miles per hour, really pumping in the humidity, and you can see, pockets of heavy rain, north side of the city up into bucks county, then you head into south jersey, salem county, moving into northern cumberland county batch of heavy rain moving off to the north and northeast, again, get stuck in one of the showers, brief heavy downpours, ponding on the road, very low visibility, but they move out pretty quickly, and then to the afternoon, casino of same deal. mid 70s over most locations, all reporting stations up from the lehigh valley down to the shore, upper 60s mount pocono, suburbs same, 70s doylestown, low 70s up into pottstown, so the comfort index not looking

good, dew point temperature tells us how humid it feels right now up to 73, that feels oppressive corks get close to the insufferable range. some sunshine today, warm, very humid, with more scattered showers, and storms, and again, any of the showers could produce brief heavy rainfall, high temperature of around 88 degrees for philadelphia, keep your ice to the sky headed to the shore, 70s in the poconos, still unsettled, as we head into the upcoming work week, i'll let you know when things finally dry out coming up. >> looking forward to it, thanks, justin. drenching rains, high water in many areas, mercer county got some of the worse the flooding, with some drivers even stranded in their cars. "eyewitness news" reporter tran dough has details from west windsor. >> heavy rainfall and flashflooding across mercer county left drivers stranded. >> so once i realize it was the watery just pulled off the road trying to be safe. >> it kept first responders and tow and tow truck drivers

weighter, just silly, i think too many bad things happen. >> pay attention to the road cones and the saw horses, they put them up for a reason, you know, they don't do it because they're board. you know, they do it because it is dangerous. >> princeton university about 2 miles from here and reported heavy flooding, in fact, the wawa on campus was closed all afternoon and most of the evening. west windsor township, tran dough, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> and along philadelphia's south street, the heavy rain and flooding caused plenty of damage. it happened on south, between tenth and 11th. take a look, this tree came right down across the hood of the suv. fortunately no injuries. tree came right out of the soft grounds. police have now blocked off the area while it is cleaned up. >> and, new this morning, serious accident on roosevelt boulevard, southbound, near fox street. there are reports of four people injured and rushed to several hospitals. and we're also getting reports that a fight broke out between two victims once they got to the hospital. there is no word on the cause

or the extensive injuries, of course we'll keep you informed as we learn more. horror in texas, developing story, one person is dead and four other injured in two separate shootings in downtown texas. cell phone video shows chaotic scene. both shootings happened at about 2:30 in the morning, the identity of the victims have not been released it, not clear if authorities have suspect or suspects in the auston shooting. and who are no texas saturday when hot air balloon caring 16 passengers crashes. authorities say the balloon caught fire and went down in a pasture, cbs news correspondent omar villafranca reports. >> reporter: investigators surveyed a gruesome scene saturday morning. what was left after a hot air balloon loaded with passengers caught fire and plunged to the earth. a woman who lives nearby saw the aftermath from her front porch. >> i am heard one pop before i stepped out the door. then i heard another pop, and i am looking around to see who is shooting because it sounded like a gun going off.

and then i looked off over, there and the next thing i knew you saw big fireball go up. >> margaret said she often sees hot air balloons flying in the area, and that the same company involved in the accident identified as heart of texas hot air balloon rides had what she called a close call in a neighbor's field about a year and a half ago. she said it was foggy early in the morning, but that the haze had mostly cleared. she believes the popping noises she heard were the balloon hitting high voltage power lines, located just above the crash scene. >> the way it went up, i don't think any of them even had any idea what was going on. >> team of investigators from the national transportation safety board out of washington will try to determine what went wrong. they will treat this area like a crime scene. >> you only get one chance at it, we want to make sure we do everything correct. >> i governor greg and booth said in a statement asking all of texas to join in prays for the loss. omar villafranca, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> an investigation is

underway into shooting involving two new jersey state troopers. the troopers responded to a 911 call in the 300 block every center ton road, and upper deerfield township late friday night. police say a man fired shot at them, and troops returned fire. nan critical but stable condition. we also know that one of the troopers was grazed by other gunfire or shattered glass. and police are questioning a person of interest in connection with a phony traffic stop in orland, montgomery county. and investigators say road rage may have sparked that stuff. eyewitnesses say this white van had flashing red and blue police-style light when the driver pulled over another vehicle, near church and brent roads last tuesday. springfield township police traced the van registration to charles grossman of whitemarsh township. police as they investigate are looking for anyone with more information on the accident. >> five delaware teenagers facing felony charges for allegedly breaking into a sporting goods store, and stealing 27 handguns. police say the teens smashed

their way into outfitters on kenneth pike greenville on july 22. investigators link those guns to shooting in wilmington's east lawn park that injured 17 year old a day later while that same teenager and four other teenagers were arrested. right now it is not clear if police have recovered all of the stolen handguns. >> a 55 year old woman some in stable condition at temple hospital after she was hit by a stray bullet inside her own home. police say the bullet ricocheted off a wall and grazed her in the head yesterday afternoon. eyewitnesses on the 700 block every east willard street in kensington say the bullet came through heroin dough from a house across the street. police have made no arrests. >> a child is recovering from minor injuries after a fire in the fairhill section of north philadelphia. flames broke out on the 2800 block of tail thorpe street around 3:00 saturday morning, they say the child between three and four years old, the fire was contained to third floor kitchen but it is not clear how exactly it started. no one else was hurt.

and overall i wouldn't cancel your beach plans, don't expect to see whole lot of sunshine if you are headed to the shore or delaware beaches, again, just keep in mind it could be passing shower really any time through the day today. >> make sure you have the beach umbrella, may have to huddle turned briefly as the shower moves by. thunderstorm not much of billing threat today but the threat still there. likely we will not be seeing any severe storms, but still, heavy rain, really the main threat through the morning into the afternoon. here's where the showers are right now, mainly philadelphia on eastward, looks like the shore in the clear at the moment. but there is heavier shower moving into northern cumberland county moving to the east-northeast, maybe north of atlantic city, long beach island seeing little rain right now. then we get a break, south and west, for few hours, later this after innocent when we heat things up again should see more scattered showers, even few thunderstorms firing up once again. so, again, limited sunshine today, i do think we see it later on this morning, this is the past 24 hours of rainfall estimate from doppler radar.

pretty impress: start seeing the yellows, reds, oranges, that's two, three, 4 inches every rain, we had that new castle county delaware into cecil county maryland yesterday into chester than the bulls eye in mercer county where we had the flooding problems around princetonment look at that, even up to 4 inches estimated here on radar, maybe more than that, not done yet. still couple of more days with some wet weather. dew point temperatures running really high. soap this is what you are looking at for the humidity levels, show this all the time in the summertime, so important. when you are in the 70s, that's when you want to stay inside in the air-conditioning, and it will pretty much stay like that throughout the day today. as we head into tonight, still muggy tomorrow, still very humid, finally, tuesday, we start to knock back humidity down just little bit. it will feel oppressive today, tomorrow, still on the humid side tuesday, i think we will handle it compared to what we are dealing with today. wednesday looks to be good. best conditions to head outside as far as the weather goes. cloudy, watch out for shower or storm, eight a degrees. dined every repeat monday, tuesday looking little better still can't rule out shower specially early in the day, noticeably less humid, bill who are sunshine, high temperature of around 83 degrees, here is the problem, we have the front and boundery lingering across the region all weekends long, eventually slowly starts to move out monday, still, though, we have the threat for some afternoon showers and storms, and then tuesday looking little bit better. high pressure starts to build in, starts to dry us out little bit by the afternoon, should be okay. at this point. but for today, through the morning into the afternoon, scattered showers, maybe few thunderstorms specially east of the city, into southern delaware, and then the afternoon, things kind of refire once again, it is hard to pinpoint where exactly these showers will be, but again key word here scattered, not everybody sees it, into tonight, same deal. 10:00, 11:00, still some showers around, tomorrow morning's commute looks better but afternoon heads up, more showers and few thunderstorms. it is warm today with some sun, up to the upper 80s like yesterday, tonight still

>> good morning, are we dodging showers yet again? >> gentlemen, seeing showers right now, fortunately, where i am right now, no rain here. north side of the sit at this looks like on radar you guys are getting a little bit of rain. those scattered showers continue, into part of south jersey, so i do think we get a break later this morning, but, we will see more showers fire up once again this afternoon and maybe even few thunderstorms, they'll contain heavy rainfall, depends where you are, key word here is scattered. so you may not need to cancel our outdoor plans just yet, have your eyes to the sky. storm scan3, you can see the bulk of the rain basically from the city on eastward. go into bucks county, seeing some light rain showers, heavier showers continue to track into northern cumberland county, ocean county heavy rain, so brief downpours possible, that will slow you down little bit on the roadways, reduce your visibility, cause little ponding. temperatures right now, mid 70s, over most locations, lehigh valley all the way down to the shore, dover checks in at 77 degrees, and not much cooler in the suburbs, 70, coolest spot in doylestown, this hour, and really the humidity really cranking up

>> back now on "eyewitness news", a major wild fire burning along the california coast is turning out to be not only deadly and destructive, but also now driving away tourists, carter evans reports. >> reporter: as flames rage out of control, near the coastal resort town every big sur burning in steep, rugged terrain, the fire has scorched more than 51 square miles, of northern california, in just one week. >> more than 5,000 firefighters from across the region, are already on the scene. a contractor was killed earlier, he was operating on the fire loan, roll over. so far, at least, 68 structures have burned, most
