five hits and split the series 2-1 the final. joining us on the phone, we have to do zelecki. thank you for japeing us, we're going to start with the most obvious name on the list of possible trades, jeremy hellickson. what are you hearing? >> still interest in jeremy hellickson. i believe he's going to traded before tomorrow's trade deadline. the giants, tiger, blue jays could use a starting pitcher. i still think there's time to get it done. the phillies have been asking for a top prospect believing if he signs elsewhere, they make him a qualifying offer. they would get, that far, they think, they should get top draft pick talent. right now the trade deadline,

we'll see if the asking price comes down. it makes so much -- i still -- style believe it is going to happen. >> you think they're just at this point asking too much for him. >> it might be a case of that. i believe that's how the negotiations work. also, i think what else happened is, he was not necessarily the top choice for a lot of teams, people looked at jeremy hellickson as the number two or three guys, but they're pursuing and andrew got traded to the marlins the other day. so i think now that more starting pitchers have fallen off the board, some of these other teams starting pitching, they're going to go, we got to make something happen. let's go after jeremy hellickson. >> another rumor that came up, the rangers and vincent velasquez. a lot of people scratching their heads. i want to see them still on the phillies roster. why would the phillies trade him at this point? >> i think they're not active

looking to trade him but i believe that they are -- they're willing to listen. and in other words, >> got it >> they love jeremy hellickson. they think he's going to be a big part. like the rangers, willing to overpay for him, they -- they look at it like we'd be foolish. not to look at the situation. sources told me a deal is unlikely to happen. that the rangers will not meet the asking price for him. i don't have any problem with it. if i'm mat klentak and sitting in my office i would literally listen to almost everybody on that roster. if you're i'm going to get totally blown away by something it might be difficult to turn down and that's the case, i think, with velasquez. >> is there anyone else you can see on the bull pen >> i think gomez could get

traded. i think he has value. other than that, david hernandez has struggled. i can't really see a team being i assume hot after him. other than that, i don't see anybody really moving. carlos luiz, a lot of people mentioned. i think it's going to be hellickson. will be number one. gomez possibly a distant two velasquez a distant number three and everybody else behind those three >> there's also rumors about ryan howard. anything remote ly on that front. >> i would be surprised if ryan howard got traded before the deadline for the simple reason he just has not been producing. he's been hitting the ball better lately in very limited playing time. but i find it hard to believe that a team would want to insert him into the lineup in an every

day situation. unless thinking hey, you know what? we can dh him a couple times a week in the american league. i also expect ryan howard to remain. >> any other crazy deals you're hearing. >> not really. i think it's focused on hellickson. and they're listing obviously to gomez and doesn't sounds leak anything is seriously cooking right now with the rangers for vince velasquez, again, hellickson makes so much sense to me, he's a free agent after the season, probably not going to be resigned. jake thompson at the minor leagues you'd like to take a look at. you can find other pitchers. so if you can get something for value for him now, i think you absolutely got to jump at the opportunity. >> basically that's what i was i'm going to ask you, does shifting gears to the minors,

does the va of a jake thompson, does that impact any moves that the phillies might make at the deadlines >> you know, i don't -- i don't think so in sense they feel super pressured. i don't think -- i don't think the impetus is we -- we got to see jake thompson, i think, they're just trying to get the best deal possible for him. same thing with nick williams in the outfield. i don't think they so much pressure to call him up. jp crawford; everybody remembers dominic brown, he got called up probably before he was ready. sent up, sent down, and now dominic brown is playing triple a in the blue jays this system, and it's never lived up to the hype. of phillies want to avoid that again and for that reason -- i think the phillies are being overly cautious but i don't think they're being rushed like

>> if there's a guy out there, he's not that good. they got a hope smallwood, the rookie, kenyan barner who's been around couple years can step up. and they, just extended darren sproles, they got hope he has a little bit of gas ledge. runningback is a major concern for this team. mapping other things. >> let's talk about brooks still out nursing a hamstring strain. it's a serious -- is it too early? are the eagles being cautious at this point? >> all of the bodily injury. they are being cautious because it is -- it's not even august yet. you can't worry. but when at first happened, they said he's day-to-day. it's not no big deal, day-to-day, meaning he'll be back tomorrow. again it's been four days and pederson said he's not expecting him till the end of the week, it's a little more serious than they let on. i don't know about you but my dealings and covered sports, hamstrings are the worst because

they linger. and you come back and maybe that's why they're holding out. when you come back too soon from a hamstring, you're going to be out again with a hamstring. it's not a good thing. >> let's talk about the quarterback controversy which is not so much of a quarterback controversy right now, but i think a lot of people are surprised that wentz is not the number two when he was drafted number two overall pick in the draft. i mean, >> it's the straventh quarterback situation i've ever seen in all my years covering, the nfl, not just here, anywhere. they have a veteran starter making very good money, sam bradford. highest paid backup in the league. and of all time. in chase daniel making 7 million a year. they draft a kid, they trade not draft him but trade him a lot to go up and gets him. they have three -- i've never seen a -- it's never happens that way, so it is kind of unique. but i mean, doug handled it will

re well saying sam is my guy. carson wentz is not ready. as much as the fans want him to be ready, he's not. >> to say he's not even going to play is kind of crazy. >> yeah. but >> when you draft a guy number two, yeah, you -- and my -- i mean, i don't know how season will go, if it goes the way i think it's going to go which isn't very optimistic. i believe he'll be playing. i think this is -- the eagles tried to recreate 1999 in a sense by bringing pederson back, he's going to be andy reid 2.0. they're hoping custodian can be donovan mcnabb 2.0. donovan didn't play much at all. it was week nine or ten, they were out of the race, don went in and plays the last four games, he wasn't very good and he was ok, you saw signs of what he was going to be. he made those rookie mistakes and carson ca will do the same thing, it's important to get him in if things go poorly and
