could deal with couple of showers, yesterday we made out pretty good. it will be humid, kind of used to this. it is august 1st already, crazy, summer flying. what's up with that? yes, we will get rid of the humidity, though starting tomorrow. things do start to improve a little bit in the forecast. heads up again today. you could run into shower or thunderstorm in some spot. and this morning, right around center city, dry, just lower clouds, still you can see the tops of the buildings here, that's pretty good. but could be few ours that deal with little bit of fog with all of the humidity around, we do have one shower and thunderstorm out across ocean county, this hour, on storm scan3, and this is slowly moving off to the east there is area did not need any more rain, yesterday south of toms river, berkeley township, reporting almost 6 inches of rain, that led to flashflooding yesterday morning. the saturday rated ground here, and a lot of areas, north of the city. so that area is under a flashflood watch through this evening. basically, montgomery, bucks county on northward, parts of central new jersey, so again, any additional rain in this area could lead to some

already out on the roadway. a lot of this morning construction, now starting to clear, the vine by the way, between the schuylkill and broad, was not closed overnight. this is construction out there lingering around, 30 eastbound, off ramp to route 202, this is supposed to be closed until 5:00 a.m. hopefully those every in you and around the area should be closing or wrapping upright about now. construction 422 westbound between sanatoga and arm around hammer boulevard right lay blocked between seven a.m. and 1:00 p.m. so this will be one of those morning construction spots that lingers out there until the afternoon. just make note of that. more of this traffic shift. lane shifting around here, route 42 between 295 and route 544, 295 between route 42 and route one #. make note of that. that can slow you down little bit specially when it gets little busier, jim, over to you. >> happening today, the price of cigarettes is going up in pennsylvania. >> the state cigarette tax is increasing by a dollar per pack. brooke, jim, good morning, sorry to break that news, to smokers across the city and state, yes, that tax is going up today. about 2.60 now is the total state-wide here in philly. it will be even more, 4.60 total, it is enough to have smokers here rethinking their habit. >> prepare to pay more, beginning today, august 1st, smokers state-wide will pay a dollar more for cigarettes for attacks total of 2.60. welcome news for some, not so much for others. >> why cigarettes? it is always the cigarette and tobacco, why not alcohol? >> i think it is great. whatever will help people stop. >> and in philly, the cost of lighting up is even steeper. an extra four bucks and 60 sent per pack, higher cost habit because the city already charges 2-dollar tax for public schools, first tacked on back in 2014. >> i think it is eventually to

going up significantly, starting today, now, of course, the last cigarette tax hike, i'm sure just yesterday for many smokers. live in spring garden, justin finch, cbs-3, "eyewitness news", brooke, jim, back into you. >> thank you, justin. >> police are investigating a deadly stabbing in the city's point breeze neighborhood. they tell us a man in his 50's, was stabbed multiple times on his left side. happened around 9:00 last night the 2300 block of garrett street. officers returned him to the hospital. he died from his injuries. new this morning, 21 year old man is in stable condition after a shooting in west philadelphia. police say the victim was shot in the arm and leg, just after midnight, near 60th and haverford. so far police have made no arrests. >> well, landmark family business goes up in flames in gloucester county. the five alarm fire broke out sunday afternoon it, calucci lumber yard. phil rem son shared this video with cbs-3. fire officials not only dealing with a burning building but dangerous

chemicals. >> we had some propane tanks popping, later into the fire, early on there was paint cans popping and some compressed gas cans inside the building. >> i got the calls, i got text, i got videos, i go oh, crap, driving by here at 11:30 in the morning, my uncle was here an hour before. so it happened. >> the lumber yard has been there for 70 years, two firefighters were taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion, the county fire mal sean as prosecute remembers trying to figure out what caused the fire. >> two former temple police officers are charged in the death after woman last friday in germantown. police say the woman was beaten to death friday morning, in a home on the 4600 block of green street. police have charged aaron wright and marquis robinson with her death. temple university confirmed to "eyewitness news" robin sos was fired as an university police officer this weekend. wright was also an officer at the school before he quit back in 2012. well, with the presidential election left and 100 days away, presidential

candidates and their runningmates are stomping through key battleground states. meanwhile, republican presidential nominee, donald trump, continues to face criticism for his apparent attacks on the parent of a muslim american sold here died in the iraq war. the parent appeared on last week's democratic convention here in philadelphia. cbs news correspondent hena daniels will have more on the campaign trail in just about 30 minutes. now for a look at newspaper headlines. >> from the cover of the trentonian, scattering into an apartment building during # year old birthday party on greenwood avenue. twenty-four year old man was shot once in the head. video captured a suspect approaching the area and firing a handgun randomly into the party. >> in the front page of the times herald, talks are underway to determine the future of leland mansion and fayette street in conshohocken. the building is owned by the borough and at one point used for meetings and stone

>> more rain could be on the way, more on the damage. >> reporter: just devastating. very sad. maryland resident reeling from the shock every deadly flashflooding that hit the area saturday. cars swept away as streets became rivers in ellacott city. month's worth of rain falling in just two hours. >> within five minute it was panic, my friends was pulling someone out of there. i've never seen anything like it. >> officials say the flooding destroyed or damaged at least 25 buildings and worse of all proved deadly. >> one victim was washed away as a pedestrian. the second person was in a automobile with another person. one was able to go to safety. and the other one, unfortunately, was carried downstream. >> in the wake of the flooding, governor larry hogan says the tragedy and kay owes also inspired bravery and compassion. >> it was shocking, and devastating. but what was incredible, that

was the bad side of it, seeing the terrible defer station, good side was watching some really heroic rescues, and seeing the first responders, and just the neighbors that were helping each other out of the cars as they were floating by. >> one of those heroic efforts caught on video as group of people formed a human chain to reach a woman stranded in her car. >> the storms devestation leaving resident grateful that they are able to begin the long process of re clean up and rebuilding. >> all you can say, you know what, i am happy i'm alive. >> cbs-3, "eyewitness news". authorities have identified the two victims, 35 year old jessica is a resident of lebanon, pennsylvania, she was visit hadding -- visiting her family. joseph was visiting, she was rescued but belief inches swept away. >> teenager critically injured in a fall friday in a remote area of katakin national park in frederick county maryland. maryland state police used a helicopter to lift out of the crevice and air lift to children's medical center in

washington, d.c. the teenager expected to recover from his injuries. >> days ahead of the olympic games, water provides to athletes and tourist, even seemingly beaches, memes tourists felt potential health risk, especially the rivers. problem, nearby lagoons and rivers contaminated with raw sewage. >> i would say go walk on the beaches, have a nice time. i would say don't let your kids eat the sand, and don't put your head underwater. >> 1400 olympic athletes are bracing themselves to compete in the contaminated water including taking antibiotics. >> well, 300 extra firefighters are joining the battle against california's fire. >> the flames and smoke are so intense, you can see it from outer space. this is some of the aftermath of the fire. the extra manpower will join

5,000 others in monterrey county. receive, 40,000 ache verse been burned since the fire started a week ago, right now, flames are bearing down on nearly 2,000 businesses and homes. officials actually don't expect the fire to be fully contained until the ends of august. they've got fires out there, we've got the flooding flashflooding here, i mean, can't make up its minds. justin, what are we looking like for today in the weather. >> still humid. too bad we can't give california some of the humidity for the fire, but more showers and maybe some thunderstorms coming in this afternoon. could lead to some flashflooding, in some spots. flashflood watch in effect for the northern half of the area. up in the lehigh valley, all quiet. looking live from the hotel bethlehem. mostly cloudy skies right now, dry here on the spree of bethlehem. not bad start. just little bit steamy out there with a lot of humidity, but again later this after innocent, we could run into a scattered shower or storm. july, finished off strong, we did hit 09 degrees in philadelphia, yesterday, it was a hot month, ended up just over 3 degrees above average.

precipitation, did pretty good. at least rain in here toward the ends of the month. only ended up just shy of half inch below average, we hit 97 twice in the month. our lowest temperature, was 65 degrees. we will cool down the temps little bit as we head through the middle of the upcoming work week. right now there is thunderstorm over south-central ocean county once again just like yesterday morning, hit hard with the rain, that continues to slowly move to the east. then dry everywhere else. once you add little bit of sunshine which we see later this morning into the afternoon, see shower or storm fire back up. not much change in temperatures from the suburbs all the way down to south jersey and delaware. low to mid 70s, so very warm, sticky outside, you will be swweating out today if you're outdoors, feeling oppressive once again with the high humidity. tomorrow, we kick it down a little bit. still feeling steamy though. but wednesday, thursday, that's kind of the best days of the week as far as the humidity levels go. nice little refreshing air mass, should feel pretty good for early august. shore forecast today, it is warm, humid, watch out for shower or thunderstorm, eight a degreesment don't cans edge
