>> live from the cbs broadcast center in is "eyewitness news". frustration on a scale of one to ten, i am about a 8.5. >> it is a marco rubio start for the work week tens every thousands of delta airline customers. computer problems this morning forced the carrier to grounds flights world-wide. it all started after a power outage overnight in atlanta. good afternoon, i'm joe hole never for jim donovan. >> i'm brooke thomas. delta says some flights are getting off the grounds now but delays and concellations

will continue throughout the day. this was the scene this morning at philadelphia's international airport. stranded passengers were spotted warned g around on shore, kenneth craig shows us how delta plans to get all of knows flights, back on track. wait in the long lines at lax even after the airlines computer system came back on line longest line, 3 miles long. >> some fell asleep as they waited. it was similar situation from london to washington. >> i came in, saw the line stretching out the door. >> delta problems began around 2:30 a.m. power outage in atlanta affected operations world-wide. travelers checking their phones and computers couldn't get accurate flight information. >> it just a.m. i'm spent, my trip today disappeared off my

app. >> says passengers can get refunds if their flight was significantly delayed or canceled. during the outage customer service agents did what they could manually, including writing outboard g passes. >> just intriguing to show how independent we are on computer systems. >> some expressed frustrations, others took the delays in stride. >> as long as we get there safe, that's all i care about. >> delta apologized for the computer glitch, says it is on track for full recovery. kenneth craig, for cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> well, at least the weather won't be causing any problems today for flights taking off from philadelphia. let's get first look at the forecast with meteorologist, katie fehlinger live on the cbs-3 skydeck, hey, katie? >> brooke, you said it, this weather is definitely very quiet, barely breeze out here, kind of refreshing breeze, too, even though very light, it is not very humid, and it is just comfortably warm for early august standards, very, very nice day on tap here, rest of the afternoon, anyway. and storm scan3, devoid of any storms whatsoever.

nice and tran will. granted we've had couple of streaks of higher clouds out, there but the sun really is filtering through. and leading to a nice start to our afternoon. current temperatures are anywhere from the upper 70s, even low 70s into the low or mid 80s, many spots. so we have few more degrees in us here to get through the rest of the day. we expect officially to top off around 87 in philadelphia, with more sun than anything, and we'll flirt with 80 up in the mountains, so that was a spot that actually started off kind of cool. looking ahead to nice afternoon in the mountains, now, all good things must eventually come to an end, of course when it comes to the weather. eventually we start to see rebounds in humidity levels coming up. we'll talk about when that really gets underway, definitely by mid-week, but how bad does it get? how hot will it get, as well, with that? and also the potential for some thunderstorms returning to the forecast, much more detail in that full forecast a bit later in the show. but for now, guys, we send it back into you, it is beautiful out here. >> beautiful indeed, thank you very much.

jury selection underway for the trial of pennsylvania attorney general, kathleen kane. kane is in court right now, prosecutors say kane leaked grand jury testimony and then lied about it under oath. our jan carabeo was in the courtroom. we'll have full report on kane's day in court on "eyewitness news" beginning at 5:00. philadelphia's criminal justice center open today after last week's elevator mishap that sent two people to the hospital. while the cjc is back open, two elevators involved will remain out of service. a sheriff's deputy was critically injured and another person was hurt as well. there is still no word on what caused the malfunction. berks county's prosecutor says investigators found a handgun anna sue side note in the home where a family of five was found shot to death. on saturday, family member discovered the bodies of mark short, his wife megan, and their three children, eight year old leona, five year old mark junior, two year old willow. woman who said she support add

benefit to raise money for willow, who had undergone a heart transplant at just six days old, recalls her interactions with mom, megan. >> she remembered me, she's very upbeat, you know, very smiley person, warm, loving, and that's the vibe you get from her when you speak to her. >> investigators say the parents had, quote, domestic issues, they've not revealed who it is believed fired the weapon or authored that suicide note. a man is fighting for his life after being shot multiple times during a carjacking in southwest philadelphia. it happened just after midnight on 60th and woodland. police say two suspects, jumped into the victim's car, and sped off. it was recovered empty, short time later on 59th and chester. investigators say they hope surveillance cameras in the area will help lead them to the suspects. at last check, the 31 year old victim was in critical condition at penn presbyterian hospital. and police are investigating a deadly shooting early this morning, inside a home on the

2800 block of south seventh street. a 29 year old man was shot once in the head with a handgun. investigators say, the victim's 26 year old brother, and their father, were also in the home at the present time. for now police are calling it a suspicious death, but they say their investigation is not over. police are looking for the suspect seen in this surveillance video from the 500 block of grenitch street in south philly on july 23rd. police say a suspect, wearing a yellow safety vest, forced open the front door of a home along with another suspect. investigators say they got away with two watches, a laptop computer and clothes. if you recognize any of the suspects, call police. advisors to republican presidential nominee, donald trump, say the candidate will re calibrate his campaign and get back on message, this comes after trump lost footing in some major polls to hillary clinton. now, we want to take you live out to detroit where trump

knows what a pathetic, puny, weak piece of filth that you are. >> killed last tuesday as she jogged near her home. investigators say she was strangled and possibly sexually assaulted. her father found her remains in the woods. he said justice will be served. >> a kansas water park is closed as investigators try to learn how a ten year old boy died on what is called the worlds' tallest water slide. caleb schwab the son of state representative scott schwab, the family visiting the water slide park in kansas city. omar villafranca is there with the latest. >> reporter: officials still haven't said how ten year old caleb schwab died, only that he was on the nearly 169-foot tall verruckt water slide. >> we honestly don't know what has happened. that's why a full investigation is necessary.

>> reporter: witnesses say they saw the boy's body lying on the ground. >> first responders started covering it up with a white sheet. >> you just don't really want to believe what's going on. >> reporter: caleb was at the parkas part of a special free admission day for lawmakers and their families. the slide cents riders on three person wrap, plum plummeting at 50 to 70 miles per hour, riders must be at least 54 inches tall, with each with combined weight of between 40550 pounds. >> verruckt faced multiple delays before opening in 2014. adjustments reportedly had to be made to the slide's second hill after sandbag tests showed literally flying off the slide. >> all of the riders -- our rides are inspected by outside party at the start. >> reporter: representative schwab and his wife michelle issued a statement, saying, as we try to mend our home with caleb no longer with us, we

are comforted knowing he believed in our savior, jesus, and they are forever together now. we will see him another day. the slide is closed indefinately, the park's website doesn't give an age restrictions, but according to published reports at the time that the slide opened, riders had to be 14 years old. caleb was only ten. omar villafranca, cbs news, kansas city, kansas. thanks, omar. we have new information in last week's deadly hot air balloon crash in texas. a source close to the investigation says the pilot skipped nichols did not see the power lines ahead of him. authorities believe he was trying to descend through a break in the clouds when the balloon caught fire and crashed. all 16 people on board were killed. still ahead on "eyewitness news": the united states dominates the second day of olympic competition. the medal count next. >> and we'll show you an on-diagnose shocker after this preacher from the deep takes the bathe.

medal. in the four by 100 freestyle relay, team usa beat range champion france, and archrival australia, to win gold. first time gold medalist, ryan, broke down while celebrating his first olympic medal. as phelps earned his 23rd. nineteen of them, now gold. less than an hour earlier, 19 year old katie ledecky not only beat the competition in the 400-meter freestyle, but she defeated herself. topping her own world record time by nearly two seconds. in gymnastics, the fears five were back in action. team usa is headed for the team final after dominating the qualifying round. three time world champion, simmone, was once again a pint sized power house, but gabby douglas, hoping to become the first woman in 50 years to

repeat as olympic champion, did not make the cut for the individual all-around. that was less of a shock than this. after 15 wins, venus and serena williams lost their first-ever olympic doubles match. rio's grueling cycling course proved too much for a dutch rider, who was in the lead until this frightening crash. she fractured her spine and suffered a concussion. but later tweeted from the hospital that she was super disappointed after best race of my career. the first weekend of the game saw many olympic venues with large parts of empty seats, some blame long security lines for missing their event. >> so i'll go on a limb and say you're american? >> yes. >> we found some american tourists getting hazed by the home country fans.

however have a front that will lift in here, spike the thermometer, spike humidity levels, also bring in potential for more showers and storms as a result. let's walk you through all of it, start it off with the good news, i know you guys like the sunshine, granted some clouds, streaks of them as we had shown you earlier in the broadcast, portions of storm scan3, but it is a quiet start to the afternoon here with just some clouds, and this is also quiet start to the afternoon here outside hotel bethlehem, where music fest is currently going on, so such awesome event every year, if you have never been, it is worth the trip up 476 to go check it out. a lot of great acts. a lot of free shows, too. meanwhile, on another one of the neighborhood network cameras, outside middle township high school cape may courthouse, yes, you have a couple of clouds. see the blue skies trying to filter through that. we are expecting in this generally to be the scene through the rest of the day. some sunshine, couple of clouds, really just tran will conditions, but thankfully still low humidity the further south you go, the humidity does spike up little bit though. you can see why there is moisture building across the

southern most delmarva peninsula. that won't mess with us. we will again see higher dew point level the further south you travel. now, looking an at the trap call satellite, there is actually an area of low pressure just off of the bahamas here, that's expected to have very low chance to develop into anything tropical. however, this, this batch, an area of low pressure, of showers and thunderstorms, just across the eastern gulf of mexico, that is going to pose serious problems for portions of the sunshine state in the next few days. take a look at the next few days, next 48 hours, of what kind of rain amounts, we could be talking about. as these rounds of torrential downpours continue to move inland, specially around that bends, this is just in the next, again, two days or so. there could be over 4 inches of rain that falls in tampa. that's going to easily cause flooding. if you have got any travel interests down this way, you need to be paying attention to what's going on in the forecast. that moisture will get drawn into frontal boundary, that is working its way through our area. we are at this point not expecting anywhere near those

kind of torrential downpours. although there will be some storms later in the show. or later in the forecast, rather. get rid of the a.m. clouds. done with those pretty much. again generally sunshine for you at the shore, 82 degrees the expected high there. over the course of the next few days, we get you into the 90s again, wednesday, thursday, friday, all three of those days expect at least a chance for a scattered shower or thunderstorm, which could bring a locally heavy downpour, along the way. stay there, coming
