questioning individual potential jurors behind closed doors. this jury is not set, just yet. nearing the end of her term as pennsylvania attorney general, kathleen kane is now one who find herself facing a judge with her twin sister ellen in toe, kane stepped in the montgomery county courthouse charged with purgery and eight counts of construction, conspiracy and oppression and day one was spent selecting her jury. one hundred men and with men pack benches inside the courtroom. commonwealth attorneys and defense spent hours reviewing their questionnaires and asking additional questions. did they know anyone in the attorney general's office? montgomery county district attorney's office, dozens of witnesses, police officers, have they been charged and convicted of the crime and would anything in their personnel background prevent them from being a fair impartial juror. kanes ale trial claims that she leak secret grand jury information and lied under oath to cover it up. they say kane was so angry about a leak that she shut

down an investigation that she orchestrate add leak of her own as pay back. prosecutors say she lied she didn't know it was forbidden even though she signed a oath when she took office. her tone says it was an honest mistake, but several former tap aid are scheduled to testify against her. now in recent months kane said her case is retribution for exposing porn gate in which state employees traded offensive, pornographic e-mails. trial judge however, won't allow the defense to get into that. now, kane remains on the job even though she lost her law license, over the felony arrest. her term end in january and she's not seeking reelection. now that kane's trial is underway opening arguments are expect to start just as soon as this jury is set, the trial is then expect to take at least a week. we are reporting live, from norristown jan carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". we have new information in the tragic berks count

apparent murder/suicide that left a family of five dead. we have learned that megan short alleged abuse and posted on facebook she needed help moving out of the family's home in sinking springs. on saturday short was found dead with her husband mark, and three children. eight year-old leana, five-year old mark junior and two-year old willow. it is unclear who fired shots and it is also uncleared who authored a suicide note found at the scene. philadelphia's criminal just advertise center reopened today after last weeks elevator mishap that critically injured a sheriff's deputy. over the weekend officials cleared two public elevators as being safe, but that the two staff elevators will remain out of service as investigation continues. authorities tell us that the mishap, led 48 year-old sergeant paulaens paralyzed from the waist down month. man also hurt last thursday was treated and released from the hospital that day. reputed philly crime boss skinny joey merlino will be in court tomorrow, and in florida

for a detention hearing. merlino seen here on the left was arrested thursday in palm beach county. he is among 46 people indicted in connection with alleged organized crime activities. the wide ranging charges for the group including racketeering, conspiracy, and arson, and firearms trafficking. merlino was released from federal prison in 2011 after serving 12 years on a racketeering conviction. everything is getting back to normal at delta after tens of thousands of passengers around the world were stranded. the problem started just before 3:00 a.m. when power outage at delta's atlanta headquarters caused a global computer failure. check in systems, airport screens and airline web site went down for almost six hours putting everyone's travel plans on hold. >> just like the longest line of probably like 3 miles long. >> someone came in i saw line stretching out of the door. >> almost 500 flights have been cancelled and less than 2,000 a delta's 6,000 scheduled flights were in operations.

passengers have been warned that major delays and cancellations will continue. and while delta says they will work around the clock to restore full operations this isn't the first time an airline was knock off line by something as simple as a power outage. >> i was stunned about it, because knowing that all airlines are so wholely dependent on computers, for virtually everything, i was surprised to hear they didn't have a good backup system so it wouldn't go down worldwide. >> coming up at 6:00 our rahel solomon talks to a aviation expert about airline technology troubles. a deadly crash shuts down a major roadway in burlington county. lets show you the scene from chopper three, route 07 in browns mills is closed in both directions, and first responders were called here around 2:00 this afternoon for a car into a tree. the impact ripping that car in half. we're told two people inside were killed. it is unclear if any other vehicles were involved or what caused the driver to lose control. a 54 year-old man is

fighting for his life after being shot in the face inside a southwest fill barber shop. it happened just before 1:00 this have afternoon on the 1800 block of south 60th street. police say someone drove victim to mercy hospital where he was listed in critical condition. no arrests have have been made and investigators say no weapon was recovered at the scene. also in southwest philadelphia police are investigating a shooting and carjacking that happened overnight on 60th and wood land. police say one suspect shot a 31 year-old man multiple times and then sped away in the victim's car. it was recovered, empty a a short time later on 59th and chester. victim is recovering at the hospital in critical condition. police are looking for the gun man and another person of interest. it is unclear what spark a deadly shooting inside a home in south philadelphia overnight, a 29 year-old man was found shot once in the head on the 2800 block of south seventh street. investigators, victim's 26 year-old brother and their father were also in the home at the time. for now police are calling it a suspicious death, but they

also say that their investigation is not yet over. police are looking for suspects scene in this surveillance video from the 500 block of greenwich street in south philadelphia on july 23rd. police say a suspect wearing a yellow safety vest forced over the front door of the home a honk with another suspect. investigators say they got away with two patches, lap top computer and clothes. if you recognize any of the suspects you are urged to contact the police. zika a virus is spread nothing south florida, palm beach county is reporting its first case of zika. the patient had traveled to miami dade county but it is unclear where virus was contracted. there are now 17 cases of zika acquired in florida. spraying for mosquitoes continues in miami, wynnewood neighborhood. in campaign 2016 donald trump delivered some specifics on his economic vision for the country. the republican presidential nominee outline tax proposals stimulating more job growth and attacked his rival hillary

clinton. donald trump delivered an economic plan focused on overhaul the tax code rethinking america's energy policy and tearing up trade agreement. >> americanism, not globalism will be our new creedo. >> reporter: trump proposed lowering corporate tax rate from 35 to 5 percent and now calls for three income tax brackets of 33, 25 and 12 percent. the businessman called for full deductions, child care expenses. >> no one will gain more from these proposals then low and middle income americans. >> reporter: trump rarely straight from the teleprompter even while protesters repeatedly interrupted. >> very well planned out. >> reporter: yes. >> his tax plan will give super big tax breaks to large corporations, and the the really wealthy. just like him and the guys, throughout the industry. >> reporter: clinton calls it a spruced up version of trickle down economics.

well, tossens of homes are under evacuation order, as fire fighters battled a a fast moving wild fire, in southern will california. >> the fire started sunday afternoon and quickly engulfed more than a thousand acres, by the evening, officials warned that air quality may reach unsafe levels, in area affected by smoke, the cause of that fire is under investigation. well, it is nearly impossible to hot wire a new car but they could be increasingly vulnerable to hacking. >> police in texas are investigating a series of theft where they believe thieves hack into new cars in just minutes. >> reporter: security video outside of a houston home shows this guy, getting in a jeep wrangler and breaking out his lap top, apparently using

the jeep's on board computer diagnostic port to trick tonight to accepting a generic key he brought with him and then just driving off. >> who needs hot wire when you have lap top. >> reporter: that belonged to david payne's daughter. >> my daughter was sleeping in the room above it. her dog was sleeping witt. they both slept through it. nobody ever heard a thinking. it is being invaded. guy coming in stealing your stuff in your own driveway. >> reporter: typically thieves target older cars because of the value of their parts, but not these two working always at night they struck again using a lap top to take this jeep grand cherokee, police arrested michael arcy and jetty salea but believe they made off with 100 vehicles which were then smuggled in to mexico. >> you steel or someone actually has the knowledge, and the ability, and knows how to utilize that ability to be able to commit the theft, it is a scary situation. >> reporter: houston police say similar string of jeep

thefts are under investigation in california, the national insurance crime bureau which investigates stolen car claims for the insurance industry has noticed an up tic in newer harder to steel vehicles being taken. >> which sort of surprised us because, because they have all of this new technology. in the old days, thieves could hot wire a car but when new technology came along it was no longer possible to hot wire a car. that is why we saw auto thefts really drop off. but, as with any kind of crime, the thieves always find a way to out witt technology. >> reporter: police and some experts say if you cannot park your car in a garage, a steering wheel lock might be able or a club could be a low tech preventive solution. >> by the way, two men arrested in texas could face up to ten years per charge, that is about a thousand years in prison. >> let's check our forecast now, meteorologist kate bilo joins us. it was a nice monday. >> not i bad monday, little

overcast at times, but i don't mind a daze like that. as long as it doesn't rain. >> i hear you. >> it is comfortable. tell news not that hot and humid but it is august. dog days of summer. we're still in them and heading back to the heat and humidity. we're talking about temperatures on their way back to the 90's but not yet. we have tonight and tomorrow and things look nice for both of those time period. lets look at the overall set up and we will show you the clouds are still pretty much sock in down the shore looking overcast there in ocean city. good boardwalk day. good day to see movie, not the best beach day, yesterday was an absolutely perfect beach day saturday not too bad either those storms saturday night missed shore points but today definitely a day to do shopping or stralling on the boardwalk, cool and cloudy in ocean city. meanwhile we are seeing cloud break up to the west, beautiful sky here, kutztown up at kutztown area middle school 81 degrees there and see blue skies peeking out as clouds begin to thin and everything starts to clear out a little bit this evening.

again you can see cloud deck overhead for much of the day. we have seen a few breaks of sun. sun looks like it was trying to come out, it wanted to and then cloud won battle but starting to thin north and west of philadelphia, and this evening will clear out even a bit more. it is all thanks to the stalled frontal boundary disturbance ride ago long that stalled front bringing steady rain to the hampton roads area of virginia and southern maryland that is missing us to the south. we're just getting cloud cover associated with it. it is all part of the bigger pattern. upper low sitting over southeastern states bringing heavy rain to florida and this stalled front will start lifting back north through the end of the week. what that will do is draw in this heat, humidity, and unsettled conditions and that is heading our way starting on wednesday. let look at florida, they have seen very heavy rain, indication that is portions of the panhandle ending up with a half foot of rain, by tomorrow morning, by wednesday morning we are looking at over 3-inch's long portions of the gulf co there we will not see that much but any shower or

thunderstorm we see this week could be locally heavy. eighty-three here in philadelphia. eighty-two trenton. no the bad. thanks to the cloud cover. tomorrow high pressure in control for one more day, cloud hold off until tomorrow night and then that front lifts back to the north, wednesday we will see scattered showers and storms and that will kick off a pattern of heat, humidity, certainly and also scattered thunderstorm through the even of the week and weekend. dew points tomorrow in the 60's but watch what happens on wednesday, dew points shoot up to the mid to upper 70's, it will start feeling very oppressive around here by middle of the week and into the latter part of the week temperatures in the 90's but with dew points in the mid 70's it may feel close to 100 a couple days. overnight a few clouds very warm. 69 degrees is your low. tomorrow sun and cloud another warm one but not as hot as it will be, a pretty nice tuesday. you're witness weather three day forecast brings us back to the 90's on wednesday with scattered thunderstorms. ninety's gannon thursday and you'll see seven day next half an hour but it looks like we

caroline was knack i is competing in rio but before she took off we caught up with a star to talk about tennis, dating and advice that her dad gave her along the w whenthe state made aers, commitment to us. i knew that i wasn't going to make a fortune. but i would have a secure pension plan when i retired. each and every one of us made that contribution from every paycheck we ever earned. they've been negligent in their responsibility over the years of not funding this pension

news". in other news brian clausen an indy car driver and top dirt track racer in the country has died due to injuries he suffered in an accident, saturday night. the 27 year-old was leading the race at bellville national rats in kansas when he crash while passing lap traffic. the clausen's car was rolled and hit by another racer. >> this is truly one of the darkest day in the 60 year history of the united states auto club. not only have we lost one of our greatest champions, but we have lost a tree ambassador for all of motor sports. >> clausen was on pace to compete in 200 races this year. he had 27 victories in 116 starts, and led three laps at indy 500 back in may. and we have new information, in last week's deadly hot air balloon crash in texas. a source close to the investigation says that the the pilot, skip nichols, did not see power lines ahead of him. authorities believed that he was trying to defend through a

break in the cloud when the balloon caught fire and crash. all 16 people on board were killed. the parents of the muslim boy arrested at school last year over his homemade clock has filed a lawsuit alleging that the incident violated his civil rights. an attorney representing 14 year-old ahmed mohammad and his family held a news conference about the lawsuit today in dallas. the teen was arrested at his texas high school last september and charged with having a hoax bomb. the charge was later dropped, ahmed says ever since the incident he lives in fear. >> i have lost all sense of security. i cannot walk outside the streets anymore without having to be covered up because i don't want to get shot because i have this fear. >> family has since moved out of the country citing death threats and educational opportunities, ahead attend a private school in qutar. urban independent school district denies denying his right and plans to fight the

day. lets look at our live neighborhood network sites in cape may courthouse where it is cloudier then it is in bethlehem. certainly more cloudy then it is here in the city but i few breaks of sun trying to peak out. we are seeing nicer conditions up there in the poconos as well. the pleasant valley near broadheadsville seeing blue skies. clouds are thinning from northwest to south east. you can see clouds still hanging on in south jersey and delaware. not a great beach day for shore points or delaware beaches but more sunshine from the city north and west. we did have one stray shower here and i have to put it on our triple sweep to see it. shower that popped up over portions of kent county, delaware the only rain we had on the entire radar. luckily that has moved out but that was producing heavy rain and was not moving much at all. pleasant for new high pressure in control through your tuesday tomorrow, you can see that front still stalled off to the south but mostly sunny day, temperatures in the 80's. more sunshine then today and temperatures will rise as well.

a pretty nice tuesday on the way. then as we head into wednesday and thursday we will have a front moving through and stalled to the north and what it will be doing pulling in all this moisture from the south, and from the west. from the gulf coast. we are back to 90 degrees on wednesday. we will keep it there thursday with showers and thunderstorms. on friday and saturday as well right the through end of the week jet stream stays to the north. we will tap in that moisture and heat index values could reach one hundred to 105-degree range. quick check on daylight length, tonight 8:06 is when sun will go down. by even of the september we are looking at a sunset of 6:44. we are losing two minutes of daylight each day and depressing, summer is getting a way but we have several more weeks and definitely will feel like summer tomorrow. 88 degrees with mix of sun and cloud, nice and warm. we are back in the lower 90's. i told to you get used to this pattern. wednesday through sunday lower 90's, hot, humid with scattered showers and storms, just about every day. nicole and ukee, back to you. >> it is back.
