left armpit dangerously close to her heart and lungs. she's recovering at st. christopher's as police set their sites on finding the shooters. tuesday evening the start of the summer scare, for many concerned callers who dialed 911. all shaken by sound of some 21 gunshots piercing the eras the sunset and little girl played by the front steps of her east germantown home. >> upon police arrival they found a six year-old female, laying on the sidewalk, she was unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound, to her left armpit. >> reporter: thirty-fifth district officers got the her to einstein hospital where she was stabilized after emergency surgery, before her transfer to st. christopher's children's hospital her caretaker by her side. >> we are going to find out who fired these shots. >> reporter: back on the 6300 block of north wood stock street the northwest detectives division launched an investigation seeking

witnesses, suspects and evident. >> this is very, very disturbing from police. when someone gets hit by a stray bullet and they are innocent that is a particular concern to us. >> reporter: early signs are that two guns were likely involved at least one a semiautomatic weapon. police know ballistics evidence indicates that the shots were fired southbound on north wood stock where two cars were also shot. that six year-old girl most likely not the target, but struck by a stray bullet. >> the description of our shooter is just a male, wearing a white t-shirt, and fled on foot in an unknown direction. >> reporter: back live, that six year-old girl is recovering still at st. christopher's her condition is said to be critical but stable at this time. thirty he lease are looking for a man seen running from north wood stock wearing a white t-shirt, police are telling us there were several surveillance cameras in the area and they hope to have video of that suspect and perhaps this shooting as it happened as well. we are live outside st. christopher's i'm justin finch for cbs-3 "eyewitness news",

brooke and joe back inside to you. thanks for that live report. a few hours ago there was another shooting in east germantown just blocks away. philadelphia police want to know if it is connect to the shooting that hurt that little girl some one shot a 47 year-old man this morning near 21st and chelten. gunfire also hit a parked car. man told police he was walking near his home when he heard the shots and then later realized he had been shot twice. he is in stable condition. police continue their search for a black honda possibly involved in racing another car that struck and killed a little girl. three-year oldest ter palmer was in the carbon monoxide night whether her family when it was hit near second and york streets in kensington. the driver that struck them was 17 and police suspect he was racing that black honda. esther's grandmother remains in critical but stable condition this morning. developing right now gunshots sent protesters fleeing, in ferguson, missouri

there. ten year-old caleb schwab was killed on the water slide sunday and it will remain closed for the rest of the season. officials have not said exactly what went wrong but an autopsy shows schwab died of a neck injury. kansas city newspaper says state of cap as as hat inspect the slide since it opened two years ago. it was a very close call for people inside a hot air balloon in august a, new york. mechanical issue forced the pilot to make an emergency landing near power lines after the basket touched down, the balloon, draped itself over power lines, knocking out power. the faa is now investigating. the incident happened less than two weeks after 16 people were killed, in a hot air balloon crash in texas. take a look, a dust stop bearing down on phoenix arizona, visibility down to a less than a quarter mile yesterday. there it is rolling through downtown area. national weather service says it is related to a tropical storm in mexico. storms came to the area right before dumping almost 2 inches
