live from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> an innocent victim after gun fight, someone shot a little girl while she was playing in her front yard in germantown. the child is only six years old. good afternoon, i'm brooke thomas. >> and i'm joe holden, jim donovan is off this noon. right now, this little girl is in critical condition, while police serve for the gunman whose stray bullet hit her. the little girl was playing on the front steps in front of her east germantown home. justin finch shows us what police found at the scene.

>> reporter: just playing by her front steps, a child found herself in the cross hairs of danger tuesday evening. >> on police arrival we found a six year old female laying on the sidewalk, she was unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound to her left armpit. which is a very bad spot to be hit by gunfire. >> about 7:00 last night, a wave of calls came in to 911 reporting a shooting in east germantown. the scene, on the 6300 block of northwood stock street, where a philadelphia police count some 21 shots fired, and surmise at least one semiautomatic gun was used. that six year old girl, likely, not the intended target. >> when someone gets hit with a stray bullet, and they're innocent, that is of particular concern to us. >> thirty-fifth district officers got that girl to einstein medical center where she is stabilized after emergency surgery. then she came here, to st. christopher's, to continue treatment, with her caretaker at her side.

at northwest detective, fanned out across her block, searching for suspects, witnesses, and surveillance cameras. balistic evidence indicates the shots were fired southbound on northwood stock, where two cars were also struck. >> i'm justin finch, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". thanks, justin, 47 year old man was shot early this morning, just blocks from that scene, police want to know if the shootings are connected. the man was hit by gunfire twice near 21st blocks from woodstock street. the victim is in stable condition, the gunfire also hit parked cars nearby. >> police found man shot multiple times while sitting in his car near the cedarbrook neighborhood. officers found him after 6:30 this morning on forest and north mt. pleasant avenues. then rushed him to the hospital. at last check the 40 year old victim is in critical condition. there is no word on any arrests or possible motive. >> police search continues for black honda this noon. that car may have been racing

with the car that hit and killed a three year old girl. three year old esther palmer was in a car with her family when it was hit near second and york streets in kensington, the driver that struck them was 17 years old, and police suspect he was racing with that black honda. esther's grandfather remains in critical but stable condition. we're learning more this noon about the man at the center of apparent murder suicide monday night in burlington township. investigators say rubin johnson junior killed his wife, and their ten year old son, then turned the gun on himself. they have not announced a motive. but officials say county records indicate the couple may have been in financial trouble. their home was scheduled for a sheriff's sale in october. families and victims of last year's deadly derailment in port richmond are getting settlements from amtrak, first reached last week, dozens more are in the works. lawyers say a strict confidentiality clause prevent them and their clients from

talking about how they're doing or how much money they're getting. in may of last year, the washington to new york train sped into a sharp curve and jumped the tracks. the derailment killed eight people and hurt more than 200 others. >> pennsylvania attorney general, kathleen kane, is back in court today. this is her arriving yesterday morning in norristown. in opening statements, prosecutors painted a picture of kane as a public official, that they say was bent on revenge, accusing her of leaking secret grand jury details then lying about it under oath. defense attorney said kane made a honest mistake but is not a criminal. >> it is heating back up, that means the rest for us the threat of severe weather. katie fehlinger in the cbs-3 weather center, when will the heat and storms arrive? >> pretty much in the midst of the heat, for sure, storms kind of depend where you are, some of you already had seen a few rumble through, there are even couple of storms actually to track right now on storm scan3. so that's where we will start

and turn our focus, we peak at the radar, satellite, some of have you more sunshine than anything, some of are you just looking at clouds, and some of are you still in the midst of some pretty heavy downpours, been moving through some what slowly here producing heavy rainfall through the lehigh valley, now along route 22, i78 there, even west most bucks county. but regardless, anyone is fair game here today to sigh shower or thunderstorm. now we talk about the heat. today is a hot day granted. the excessive heat watch, like the warning when it takes effect, actually going into effect tomorrow at this same time. it will last us until saturday. so it is a multi day event here. that will be dealing with the heat. but look, these are your current feels-like values. that is brutal in dover. look at that, triple one's, there in, dover, what it actually feels like when you factor in excessive dew points, it is real hot outside, guys, just to get things started this afternoon, officially shooting for mid 80s, upper 70s in the resort towns, here in philly about 90 where we top off.

>> reporter: democrats argue that's not what trump may and say it is further proof he is unfit to lead. >> and i don't finds these are persuasive at all. >> reporter: even before the most controversy, one in four say trump should drop out of the presidential race. hillary clinton not without her own problems, a new batch of emails suggest a leak between bill clinton's charitable foundation and the state department. one e-mail from a clinton foundation aid, secretary clinton's deputy chief of staff, asked a favor for someone looking for a job. another wanted to connect one of the foundations top donors to someone with influence in lebanon. nearly two thirds of voters view hillary clinton as dishonest, because after questionable private e-mail server she used as secretary of state. but she is still leading trump by average of eight points in national polls. >> if any other election with any other republican running against someone with this story and these numbers, they would be trouncing them. >> says neither of the emails involve the secretary or the

foundation's worth. craig boswell, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". police in punt a gord a florida say woman shot and killed during a roll playing self-defense exercise was a beloved member of the community. authorities say an independent investigation of the circumstances of this shooting is now underway. mary nollton librarian originally from minnesota, married for more than 50 years. investigators say, noteon was mistakenly struck with a live round. the officer involved has been placed on leave. >> we have to tell you about scary moment for a group of journalists covering the olympics in rio. their bus was hit with some type of projectile, while driving to the olympic park last night. they all hit the floor. these are still photos of the bus when the driver pulled over. two windows were shattered, but no one on the bus was seriously hurt. olympic officials say police are stepping up patrols in the wake of this incident. by the way the us continues to lead in the medal count at the olympics. right now we have 26 medals,

nine of them are gold. china is second with 17 overall, and japan now third overall with 13. >> one of the thrilling gold medals won last night was by the women's gymnastics team. aly raisman, simone biles, lori doing last, madison, won the team competition in rio. biles three time world champion this her own right. but even with the victories, there are allegations that coverage of the olympics put more of a spotlight on the men. correspondent jamie is in rio, with how women are treated differently than their male counterpart. >> with hungarian swinger, set new world record, and won her first olympic gold, some of the focus fell on her husband, and coach shane. >> there is the guy responsible for turning hazika, his wife, into a whole different swimmer. >> remark lit up fire storm on social media.

on twitter, users called the commontator's remarks offensive. saying it was he smashed the world record, but her husband is the one responsible for it, that is sexist. in a statement to cbs this morning, nbc dan hicks responded saying: with live tv there are oftentimes you look back, and wish you had said thing dentarily. impossible to tell the story accurately, without giving appropriate credit to shane. that's what i was trying to do. >> in 2016, women have accomplished so much, we had woman running for president, still all about what the men behind them have been doing. >> the rio games have been the site of more than just one incident that's been perceived as sexist. sunday another comment directed at swimmer drew criticism. >> a lot of people think swim like a man. she doesn't swim like a man. she swam like katie ledecky. >> and bronze medalist cory doingdill, first identified not by her name, but as the wife of a bears lineman.

luckily noun no one was hurt. delta airlines passengers face third day of possible travel headache, after the carriers computer melt down monday. the airline executives say they expect at least 90 more flight concellations, world-wide, before operations return to normal later today. delta employees had to cancel more than 1700 flights, in total, since monday, when a power outage at the facility in atlanta knocked out global computer systems. >> and take a look at this, bags in hand, man jumps from an airport gang way, down on to the tarmac at madrid international airport. he's not giving up, either. more incredibly, he managed to board his ryan air flight even as it prepared to take off. apparently he was headed forward canary islands, unclear if he got to enjoy his trip. the man was detained at his destination to face charges. very interesting. >> if you can't make a phonecall in the air, you definately can't do that.

spots, too, right now, we showed you some of the feels like values, feels like it is in well into the triple digits in dover right now, really brutal stuff out there. and, you know, in some places actually few thunderstorms, too, so little bit of variety pack after forecast depending on location, which we'll get to, but the kind of forecast that's essentially like the movie groundhog day, just keeps oncoming up the exact same thing over and over again, have to give credit where that's due. one of our guys, john, came up with that, i know eel ' appreciate that i give him a shout out for that one. essentially what we're looking at here. let me take you outside. so take you on little baby tour hereof some of the live network cameras. basically just cloudy skies, had a little bit of rain, that rolled through the kutztown area, and certainly, we even had couple of raindrops on the camera lens. but look at this. just barely clouding the sky outside middle township high school, cape may courthouse, really is location, location, location. but what do you have everywhere is building heat,

southwesterly wind flow, may not be terribly breezy, oppressive humidity will not feel that much better to you, won't have a refreshing breeze to go with it. a look at thunderstorms that rumble on through, moving basically right along or just south of i78, portions of bucks county getting hit, into mercer county, for example, but not everyone is involved in that. and that's kind of the story, not just today, but well into the seven day forecast. huge zoom on storm scan, to give you a sense of what's happening here. look at the circulation by the way. really well defined system there. meanwhile you have got high pressure building off shore. and frontal boundery that's trying to push east, because this thing is so darn slow, it means that we're going to have multiple days of the jet stream to the north, with hazy, hot, humid conditions, building in our region, heat index values that are going to soar well into the triple digit. like we say, it could exceed 105, already has today, and our excessive heat watch hasn't even gone into effect. so that gives you a sense of what you will face out there. so, do the math in your head.

when you see the they are thermr in the car or anywhere else, you want to add at least right now anywhere from eight-12 degrees, how it actually feels, technically at 87 at philadelphia international airport. it does feel more like it is up to about 95 degrees or so currently at that location. this is the story everywhere. you won't find relief when it comes to the humidity anywhere. even in the higher terrain, even in the mountains. the current dew point temperature, measuring the amount of moisture content in the air, how humid is it, it is at 74. the benchmark for where it starts to feel at all steamy is 65. so you're talking some pretty insufferable stuff out there. if you have got to be out in this for stretch of time, please, take frequent brakes. drink lots of water, have all of that ready to go, and be smart about spending time in the heat. the beach is a good place to head if you are trying to beat that heat. obviously the sun still out that way. moderate rip countries being remains. please be careful, always swim near the lifeguards. we've had some reports lately
