philadelphia. 85 in wilmington. it's 80 in reading, allentown is 79. take a look at our heat index right now, 97 is what it feels like right now at 11:00 at night. 97 degrees. that is dangerous heat because we're just going to retain this heat as we head to the weekend and it's going to continue getting hotter. we got to 97. that ties for warmest day of the year, the heat index reach pud 109. tomorrow may have similar temperatures, the heat index may go higher with slightly hiring due points. here are excessive heat warnings and advisories, the pink shaded area shows the entire region over an excessive heat warning for tomorrow. the orangish color you see is the heat advisory. what it's going to feel like both days this weekend when some receive a may return and we'll time out scattered thunderstorms. many are trying struggling

raise the risk of injury or illness. city officials say so far four people in philadelphia have died of heat related illness. >> the preventable deaths. >> reporter: that's why the philadelphia corporation for aging hopes to help raise awareness. >> i see a hit line, may i help you. >> reporter: by activating a heat line for extended hours >> we have medical staff here that can help people answer questions about their heat related issues or questions -- problems they might have. >> reporter: they recommend checking in with family members, neighbors, especially the elderly or disabled, keeping temperatures cool when inside >> when they close the windows and run the fan. it's 115, 120 inside your living environment. >> reporter: signs of heat exhaustion can range from severe headaches to kidsness, experts say it can lead to heat stroke which has life-threatening

effects, make sure you're staying cool and hydrated. anita oh cbs3 "eyewitness news." as you mentioned the philadelphia corporation for aging's heat line is now activated. if you or someone you know needs help beating the heat, call 215-765-9040. it is open until midnight. the heat line will also be open saturday and sunday from 8:30 to midnight. meantime philadelphia public pools slated to close for the summer season are now staying open because of the heat. 2013 of the 21 neighborhood pools that were supposed to close will now be open from noon to 5:00 on saturday and sunday. eight pools will be closed due to staffing issues. we'll post a list of locations on our website cbsphilly.com. philadelphia police identify two suspects in frightening robberies targeting asian business owners and they want the public's help. here are the suspects police are

vying to find, norman and anthony campbell. both men are known to them at my take a look. the suspects have been targeting asian owned biases with residents above the shops. the suspect threaten their victims at gunpoint, tide them up and robbed them. >> both males currently have warrants against them. we're trying to gather mower information, they're considered armed and dangerous, we're not quite sure of the whereabouts. we're hoping the public can come forward with information on where these individuals may be >> here's another look at the suspects if you know where they are, you're urged to contact philadelphia police. officials are now offering a $10,000 reward in the shooting of a 6-year-old, that little boy is fighting for his life after being caught in the cross fire in germantown, mahaj brown was sitting in a car with his godfather when a gun battle broke out on the 500 block of

ashley street. the little boy was shot several times with an assault rifle. >> he just took a lot. his little body was riddled with bullets. i just -- i just can't believe it. they have no regard for anybody's life. let alone a child's life. >> police believe two rival groups were shooting at each other. the violence comes just days after another 6-year-old, a little girl was shot just a mile away. police are also offering a $10,000 reward in that case. former penn state assistant jerry sandusky takes the stand seeking a new trial. he claims his lawyers bunk he willed his 2012 trial in which he was found guilty of sexually abusing ten boys. of "eyewitness news" greg argos traveled for the story. >> reporter: did jerry sandusky receive effective counsel during his 2012 trial for child molestation charges? tonight we're hearing from his

trial attorney joe amendla. what he says prevented effective counsel >> we didn't have time. >> reporter: that's the basis for why his 2012 trial attorney says he was not able to provide an effective defense for the former penn state assistant football coach. >> we were effective was he because we weren't give sufficient time. if we had sufficient time, we could have developed. >> reporter: friday he testified in a hearing which could lead to a new trial. first to speak for the first time was sandusky himself. >> lindsey is now representing the 72-year-old convicted child sex offender. he has filed a petition for post conviction relief saying sandusky's original trial was botched. since his client did not receive effective counsel from trial defense attorney. >> in this particular case, there were decisions that were made that permitted an innocent man to be prosecuteded. >> reporter: lindsey says those decisions allowing sandusky to

be interviewed without properly preparing the former penn state state football coach. also points out grand jury leaks, waiving the preliminary hearing. and he never testified as reasons for a new trial >> never until today that was able to say i did not do these things. >> reporter: the prosecutors say the 2012 defense was effective and it was to sandusky who had the final say with the decisions that were made at that time. >> i spoke with al lindsey, he is sandusky's current attorney and he tells me this hearing will continue on august 22. we could hear from the original prosecutors. they could take the stand and testify. reporting in center county, greg argos cbs3 eyewitness. . kathleen kane will soon be in the hand of a jury. it's set for monday, kane decided not to testify or put on any defense witnesses.

person. >> or a shark. >> carbon buried there, something like that. >> kate joins us with the dangerous forecast. >> this forecast is miserable. we got the threat for heavy showers and thunderstorms pretty much every day through the seven-day forecast. after that, it does look like it will start to quiet down as we head towards next weekend. we got problems to deal with. of the one by one one threat being the heat and humidity we're not getting relief overnight. it's not bad night to be outside as long as you take the easy, drink plenty of water, as i mentioned feels like 97 degrees. and bethlehem feels like the upper 80's. of it's not quite as bad. you could see a few folks out there. enjoying the last hours of music fest on main street in bethlehem. of course, it's again going on all week. and it's a huge event. but if you're planning on heading there hydrate and play it safe. that goes for anyplace around

the region this weekend. here's a quick look at the palmyra cove nature park. it's 83 right now. as we look live over the delaware river and showers and storms pretty much fizzled. we can't rule out a stray shower or thunderstorm. especially off to the north but most are missing us to the north, not a big deal. locally just a few clouds and again maybe that stray shower here or had there. let's take a quick look at louisiana where the rain continues and as we said over a foot and a half of rain fallen in parts of that state and just continues following a state of emergency is in effect in very, very dangerous situation for our friends in louisiana. steamy night for us, 81 forecast low that will a break the record for warmest low for tomorrow morning's date of august 13th. we broke the record this morning with a morning low of 81 degrees as well. usually we drop into the 70's. even the 60's this time of year. you can see how far temperatures are skewed above average. the excessive heat warning is in

effect for most of us through sunday as well. a heat advisory for the poconos and these will be in effect all weekend long. tomorrow is 96. but it will feel like 110. the due points heading to the upper 70's, sunday high of 95 will feel like 107. monday a is cool be down never thought feeling like 93 would feel like a cool-down but it will be a little bit of relief. tomorrow scattered thunderstorm off to the north and west. main of these could produce localized downpours. once again sunday afternoon the threat for a skattered storms. very warm at 81. 96 in the city. again feeling like 110, on the sand 92. you're going to be up around 96
