total of three lives this weekend. we do have live team crutch tonight. trang do is with us that left residents without service the hottest part of the day. let's begin with lauren casey on the sky deck with what we can expect. we did have storms roll through parts of the area hoping to cool some off at least temporarily. we did have severe thunderstorms impact parts of delaware. that area of thunderstorm activity weakened pretty dramatically. starting to see redevelopment as the cell approaches cape may county. also light rain trying to make its way up into delaware and eventually philadelphia county. i think at this point, we would welcome that rainfall to help cool us off a little bit. 84 degrees right now in philadelphia. cool air in berks county at 76. we're down at 77 in dover.

feeling at least a little bit refreshing for the moment. not refreshing at all though today in atlantic city. day two in a row of record high temperatures topped off at 98 breaking the previous record set back in the 1800s. high temperatures were soaring across the delaware valley. we were only two degrees shy of a record high temperature in philadelphia topping at 97. we hit 96 in wildwood. 97 the high temperature in dover today. and unfortunately, just as our excessive heat warning that has been in effect the last three days expired, a new one has been issued by the national weather service. it does include philadelphia and surrounding counties and this runs through the day tomorrow until 6:00 p.m. on tuesday. we'll talk about high -- how high temperatures will climb, what the humidity will feel like over the next couple days and finally some relief in the extended forecast. coming up, natasha >> thanks so much. new tonight, the water is finally back on for residents in west philadelphia, a water main

break caused some to go 12 hours in this heat without any running water. "eyewitness news" at haverford avenue and 61st street where crews worked for hours to repair the main. during the day, more than 50 homes and businesses had no running water. "eyewitness news" reporter trang do you joins us. >> reporter: crews finished up the job about a. had a hour ago after 15-hour day i was the on her, haverford avenue opened back up to traffic. you can see there's still a portion of the road taped off where they had to dig the massive hole honored to fix the water main. at around 7:30, people got their water restored >> actually, woke up and there was no water in the house. >> reporter: he wasn't alone. 50 homes and businesses near the intersection near 61st and haverford spent a sweltering day without water because a water main break just before 7:00 a.m. >> the water pressure dropped,

and shower. so i came downstairs to turn on the lights, check everything. look outside. morning ritual. then i saw all this water. >> reporter: despite a heat index of 105, neighbors took it all in stride. >> you make do. when you get lemons, you make lemonade. >> reporter: crews worked to replace the main, a water department employee handed out water bottles to those who needed it >> taking it easy, the water that's all we need, the water. >> reporter: a little more than 12 hours later, water was finally restored. much to the delight of some very patient residents. >> it feels great. it feels actually great to go to the bathroom, the to wash up, to go and wash your hands and everything when you want to. >> reporter: fixing this was a high priority as the city had

three heat related deaths so far this weekend. a 59-year-old man died today. and yesterday, two women, ages 67 and 82, also passed away due to the heat. they also had serious health issues in addition to that. for now, we're live in west philadelphia, i'm trang do, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> thank you so much. in bensalem, police confirm they responded to a report of a child left in a hot car in a shopping center today. it happened in the target parking lot on rock hill drive. the child is expected to be ok. police say charges are pending against the people who left the child in the car. tips on staying cool and complete list of public pools that are open across the city, check out our hot weather resource guide on cbsphilly.com a plea for blood tests today in the wake of water contamination in montgomery county and bucks county. residents expect the may be behind an unusual number of cancer cases.

they held a road, side rally and joe holden was there. >> reporter: on this steamy hot road side, there are stories >> my daughter and i both have kidney abnormality >> we were told our daughter had stage five kidney cancer and there was a good chance she wasn't going to make it. >> reporter: her daughter fought kidney cancer years, felicia only narrowly defeated it after numerous radiation treatments, she's healthy with three-quarterses of a single kidney in tack concerns stem from the revelation that operation it's at the nearby closed naval base and other government facilities contaminated public and private wells. navy has taken responsibility but people here say it's not enough. they want blood screenings for those who live here and they want the navy to foot the bill. >> my aunt has a rare bladder

cancer. >> the question becomes why not offer that blood screening? republican michael fitzpatrick was out here. he says he's it will get done >> they've been scenario but wrong. >> reporter: a division of the cdc indicated blood tests wouldn't yield data that's useful in the big picture. congressman decrease and calls a blood test a basic right. >> the thing is all of the representatives, democrat, republican, congressional, state house delegation, we'll all united in a command that cleaned up, the public wells be cleaned up. >> reporter: many are skeptical. why not offer wide, spread blood tests >> my concern is to get our water safe to drink. >> reporter: parents say they expect the government to do what's right and want help uncovering the damage many say is already done. in huntingdon valley, joe holden cbs3 "eyewitness news." a 16-year-old has been shots hand killed in north philly. happened on the 2000 block in

kensington before 2:00 this afternoon, police say teen was shot once in back while inside a car. of the gunman is still on the loose tonight. anyone with information about this case contact philadelphia police right away. the lights back on for residents on south street who lost power due to an underground fire. it happened before 1:00 this morning in the 400 block of south street. we're told equipment failure was the cause of this underground cable fire. customers had services restored around 3:00 this morning. an investigation is underway in north philadelphia after a car smashed into a frat house on the temple university campus. it happened early this morning on corner of broad and norris streets. police tell us the driver ran across the intersection and crashed into the steps of the corner building. the driver was hurt in this crash but is expected to be ok. now the national guard is on alert on stand by in wisconsin

after an officer shot and killed an armed a black man in an area that was already on edge. >> reporter: neighbors on milwaukee's north side cleared debris after several cars and buildings were set on fire overnight including a gas station that was burned to the ground. police in riot gear faced off with dozens of protesters by posts on social media. the violence started a few hours after a police officer shot and killed seville smith during a traffic stop. police say the 23-year-old was at least 13 prior arrests ran, refused to stop and had a loaded gun in his hand. the mayor pleaded for peace moving forward. >> if you love your son, you love your daughter, you love your grandchildren, tell them to stay away from this area. >> reporter: the milwaukee sheriff requested the national guard be activated saying another night of violence cannot be allowed to happen.

>> we're not going to caught like ferguson and baltimore because you all will stand up here and say sheriff, doesn't seem like you guys had -- put were prepared for this, what am i going to go to say. >> reporter: police made 17 arrests overnight. four officers were hurt along with a 16-year-old girl hit by a stray bullet. people in the community say tensions have been rising since at least 2014 when police killed a mentally ill black man. >> the black people of milwaukee of tired, they're tired of living under this oppression >> the state is investigating saturday's shooting. bryan webb cbs3 "eyewitness news" eyewitness. it's killing of a police officer in georgia, the search is on for royheem, deeds. authorities say smith was responding to a suspicious person call yesterday, when he encountered the suspect, got out of his patrol car and was shot. police say deeds fled the scene

and remains on the loose at this hour. >> surveillance video has sufficed of the moment a new york city and his assistant were gunned down at point-blank range in queens. we chosen not to show you the disturbing shooting itself but you can clearly see the gunman walk up behind the man appoint the weapon and calmly walk away after shooting both, the 55-year-old and associates era odeen had just left the mosque when they were shot. the gunman has not been found. the fate of kathleen kane may soon be in the hands of a jury. kane decided not to testify or put on defense witnesses at her perjury and he obstruction trial. her lawyers say they don't think the lawyers have proven its case. a huge wildfire is raging

robbed in rio, the u.s. olympic committee says four americans swimmers were held up at gunpoint overnight. one of them gold medallist lochte. he told the investigators the robbers were posing at police officers and pulled over the taxi. he said one of the robbers held

the gun to his head and stole his wallet. it reads in part i want you to thank all of my family and friends for the overwhelming concern i have received. white it is true that my team mates and i were the violation of a robbery, what is most important is that we are safe and unharmed. the washington monument meantime is closed again after more problems with its elevator. the national park service says the elevator got stuck. about 490 feet in the air. a tripped breaker is to blame. the elevator also broke down yesterday and dozens were evacuated using the stairs. the monument was closed in july baud of elevator problems as well. and new at 11:00. a huge wildfire is ripping through two california communities right now. about 100 miles north of san francisco. much of lower lake and clear lake have been evacuated already as flames race through dry brush

destroying at least four homes. the wildfire has spread to more than two square miles and crews are still trying to get the upper hand over these flames. so far, no injuries have been reported. president obama has now declared four parishes in louisiana major disaster areas after historic flooding. four people dead and not clear when those evacuated will be allowed to return home. volunteers went door to door sunday rescuing people trapped in their themes after torrential remains left south will you describe under water. the coast guard plus three people stranded on a roof in baton rouge one of the hardest hit areas >> this is a serious event, ongoing, not over. >> more than 5,000 people are now calling shelters like this home for the night. many fear they we only have anything to go back to. >> when i woke up, there was five feet of water in my house >> they were brought to the sound stage being used as a

incredible seen. >> that's great there were no injuries, hard to believe. >> especially going through the town that way. clearly we have storms roll through this area. >> storms not severe weather, but storms may be welcome because we got rain, cold air at least before temperatures shoot back up after the rain moves out. of we do have another excessive heat warning that is in effect, not for entire delaware valley but for the i95 corridor. it does include philadelphia, metro and getting a live look at center city philadelphia. all is quiet but temperatures, of course, are very warm. 84 right now, feels like 90 degrees still at this late hour. pick up rainfall across parts of the area, montgomery county seeing the most this evening, picking up about a half inch in royersford, doylestown a quarter of an inch, reading over a ten. of an inch. stormscan 3 showing us dealing with returns on the radar, mostly light to moderate precipitation, we do have a thunderstorm making its way into

cape may county. rumbles come across portions of cape may county, but lightening strikings with that. millville up into vineland, light to moderate rainfall. delaware and physical counties rain starting to move in, this will continue to move off to the north and east. we could see light to moderate rainfall moving in. that's what future weather is projecting as we head into the next couple hours. once we deal with the rain that's out there. it will come to an end, no regeneration, we'll wake up to dry conditions for monday morning community commute. overnight. we could see a passing shower. otherwise partly cloudy conditions and pretty warm only dropping back to 78 degrees. tomorrow, day six in the 90's, up to the 92. with a stray to afternoon thunderstorm possible. check out the low temperatures this morning, this is where we started. of 83 breaking a record for warm

overnight low. previous records 78 degrees. back in 1988. check out some of these low temperatures across the delaware valley started at 81 in millville. of 83 degrees in atlantic city. of temperatures right now where we have had the rain, we're seeing cooler air in place, 76 right now in reading. 77 in dover. we're still up at 84 right now in philadelphia. it still feels like 90's in many locations feeling like 90 right now in wilmington, and feeling like 93 in wildwood. but it wasn't as bad as yesterday due points, they were a little bit lower today, you could see that in our 24-hour due point change down about five to ten degrees in some areas. and due point levels will remain kind of constant to what we felt today as we head into the day tomorrow and then they kickback up as we head into tuesday. of we'll start off pretty humid in the morning on wednesday. but then on the back side of a cold front, the humidity will start to wayne as we head into thursday falling back into the

steamy maybe even the not bad category, something to look forward to as we head into the second half but again tomorrow, we're going to be dealing with some of this heating 88 at the shore, mostly sunny with a stray afternoon thunderstorm possible. of then again the best chance of rainfall across the area will be in the poconos with scattered thunderstorms and a high temperature of 81 and across the area, we're climbing into the 90's again for most of us. we'll top off at 94, the high temperature in millville. tuesday you'll need the umbrella. heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity. high at 91, humid, we start off humid on wednesday and spotty storms and then feeling better by thursday and friday. now, it's not going to feel fall like but it's going to feel a lot better than what we have been feeling over the last several days. >> oh -- boy, anything is a relief. insane. >> thanks, lauren. >> lesley what's happening >> well, a hot game today for the phillies and the utility

. 17,000 fans brave the heat and watch the eagles open practice. carson wentz was there, to catch the rookie quarterback fractured his ribs thursday night, no time table for his return, this isn't the first time he suffered this type of injury. he's trying to deal with the pain >> it hurts pretty good. i came out yesterday and tried to practice and didn't realized how bad it hurts. went and got the x-rays and the ct scans and that revealed the fracture. it hurts pretty much everything i do but it will be all right. it was military appreciation night the linc. they gave members of the service their jerseys and took pictures across the street, the
