right now at 11:00, breaking news. a jury convicts kane of all nine charges in perjury and obstruction case against her. >> the killing shook a quiet berks county neighborhood. authorities say a husband shot and killed his wife and three children before killing himself. what investigators say happened leading up to that tragedy.

>> joe biden joins hillary clinton and the vp did not hold back. his harsh words for donald trump. we begin tonight with the conviction of pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane. good evening everyone. i'm jessica dean. >> and i'm nicole brewer. it didn't take the jury long to side with the prosecutor in this case. david spunt is live outside the montgomery county courthouse with the latest on what next happens for kane. >> attorney general kathleen kane snuck out the courthouse. she was not taken into custody. she was once a rising star in the democratic party and she was endorsed by former president bill clinton. tonight she is a convicted felon. pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane entered the courthouse. >> what what she did while she

was the attorney jernl, the fact that she would commit criminal acts while she's the top prosecutor is a disgrace. >> reporter: montgomery county prosecutor say kane deliberately leaked information to get revenge against former state prosecutor. she did it after bad press during the week-long trial, kane never took the stand but text messages and e-mails were introduced in court. her defense team argued that the charges should be thrown out. ultimately the jurors disagreed and found kane guilty. >> over the course of time, the rulings by various courts, we've been denied the opportunity to mount a full defense, but we firmly believe that they day will come. >> reporter: prosecutors from bucks county and montgomery county worked on this case. the big question, what is next for kathleen kane? well, she has a sentencing sometime within the next 90 days behind me here at montgomery county courthouse, but will she

>> we've seen some rain moving through the philadelphia area. that batch of rain starting to push east into new jersey but there's more lurking to the south around portions of dc, maryland, baltimore, you can see some heavy rain there, also frequent lightning poised to

108 with the heat index. for these very serious runners, their training doesn't stop. >> how is everybody doing? [ cheers ] >> reporter: if you're going to do something crazy, it's best to do it with company. >> having groups to run this, especially like ours right behind me now, definitely helps.

makes the suffering go a little easier, i think. >> reporter: that's the idea these runners had at they gathered to run four miles to the philadelphia brewing company in kensington. many are training for the upcoming philly 10k even as the heat index is making temps feel in the triple digits. the race director says preparing for a big run involves hydrating well in advance. >> it's not just about bringing a bolt of water out on your run, but also the day before, two days before, if you've got a big race coming up, make sure you're staying hydrated. >> reporter: this kind of weather, even if you're not being active, should involve a lot more water than you think says the director of emergency medicine at einsteins. >> we should be drinking at least a 20 ounce bolt of water every hour during these really hot summer days. >> reporter: the type of clothes you wear can also make a big difference. >> you want to avoid cotton.

you don't want it to be skin tight. >> reporter: the group made it to their destination in about 40 minutes but it was definitely not the type of weather for beginners. >> i'm very proud and i'm going to call my mom to let her know and i'm adding this to my resume as well. >> reporter: and the philly 10k is scheduled for august 28th which means these runners have two weeks left to train. i'm trang do, cbs 3, eyewitness news. >> a fourth person in philadelphia has died due to the extreme heat. if you or someone else you know needs help dealing with the heat, you can call 215-765-9040. it remains open until midnight tonight and then reopens tomorrow morning at 8:30. >> tonight one of the two suspects involved in a string of robberies targeting asian business owners is behind bars.

norman bowen is expected to be charged tomorrow. police say he and anthony campbell have been targeting asian businesses with homes above their shops. they have reportedly struck 12 times since may. philadelphia police say three more day care centers were barring larized over the weekend. just last week a suspect had broken into nine day care centers now bringing the total number burglarized to 12. police believe the break-ins happened after hours and the suspects gained entry in the rear of the properties. the suspect usually gets akwa with electronics or money. >> there is's new information tonight in the murder-suicide that left a family of five dead in berks county. investigators say mark short shot his wife and three children and then killed himself on august 6th. people say the couple was having marital problems and mark short had recently been demoted at

work. on july 18th police responded to a domestic dispute at that home. megan short told 911 she was afraid of her husband. >> the police department at that time did advise megan short how to get a protection for abuse order but she chose not to. >> investigators also revealed mark short took the children to hershey park the day before the shooting. >> the death penalty will no longer be an option in delaware. on august 2nd the state supreme court ruled the law is unconstitutional. today the attorney general announced he will not appeal that decision. as for those already sentenced to die the attorney general says he believes the ruling cannot be applied retro actively to the 13 men currently on death row. bill cosby is dealt another legal below. today a federal appeals court

rejected his deposition testimony. the it was moved because it has been widely publicized. and the race for president, hillary clinton will visit west philadelphia tomorrow following her visit to north eastern pennsylvania. vice president joe biden joined clinton on the campaign trail for the first time today in his hometown of scranton, pennsylvania. clinton who also has family ties to the area is fighting for the support of middle class and blue color workers. vice president biden called trump the most unprepared presidential nominee ever. >> this guy doesn't care about the middle class. and i don't even blame him in a sense, because he doesn't understand it. he doesn't have a clue. he really, i mean, he really doesn't. >> i always remember i am the granddaughter of a factory worker and the daughter of a small business owner and i am so proud of it!

[ cheers ] >> while in scranton, the vice president gave clinton a tour of his childhood home. meanwhile in ohio donald trump proposed an immigration policy that would feature extreme vetting and an ideological test for admission to the united states. >> we should only admit into this country those who share our values and respect our people. in the cold war we had an ideological screening test. >> trump's speech was overshadowed by stories about his campaign chairman who is facing scrutiny for allegedly receiving secret payments when he worked as a political consultant for ukraine's former president. the sun came out in louisiana but the flooding there is far from over. >> we'll have the latest on relief efforts and why officials fear the rising waters can get worse even though the rain has stopped. >> plus getting back to nature, the new park plan that will give

the unrest in milwaukee continues after a police shooting of a black man. the city's mayor has issued a proclamation applying the city's curfew for teenagers of up to 17 years old. officials say the curfew already strictly enforced.

saturday's fatal shooting is currently under investigation by the state. dozens march in support of philadelphia police officers tonight. eyewitness news is back the blue rally in philadelphia. many waived the american flag as they marched. historic flooding in louisiana has claimed the lives at least six people and displaced 20,000 more. and even though the rain has stopped there, the devastation continues to be revealed. >> reporter: from the air it's hard to find dry land in southeastern louisiana. just east of baton rouge is covered in several feet of brown water. the sergeant of the national guard took cbs news on a search and rescue mission in the flood zone. >> a lot of people choose to stay until the power goes off. >> reporter: the national guard helped pull more than 7,600 people from the flood waters. at least water.

leaving her home was difficult but she had no other choice. >> we woke up and it was just unbelievable the water we had in the yard and i really didn't want to leave my home. i wanted to stay at home but i couldn't put my life as well as my son's life in danger. >> reporter: maryellen morgan and her family were rescued just before the water overtook their home. they used their boat to rescue over 175 people. >> they're thankful that somebody is there to help them. >> 500 red cross volunteers are on their way to help residents. this is the largest u.s. disaster response since hurricane sandy. >> firefighters in northern california continue to battle raging wildfires. this fast-moving wildfire has already destroyed at least 2,000 homes and it continues to burn out of control. more than 1,000 fire personnel

are battling the wildfire that has already skoichd 3,000 acres. 1,500 homes are now threatened by the flames. it is all-hands-on-deck in florida as zika continues to spread in the miami area. officials have enlisted the help of commercial pest control companies in the fight to stop mosquitos from spreading that virus. 30 people have been infected. officials say the extra help will ensure miami-dade county has every possible tool to fight zika. >> for residents in a camden neighborhood, their access has been cut off for decades. this one section of land will soon become kramer hill nature preserve. camden recently secured funding to clean up the 35 acre section of land once home to a sewage treatment plant that was torn

down in 1991. contaminated soil will be removed. >> turn lemons into lemonade and give the community access to the riverfront and also protect the 35 acre wetland tract in an area like camden. >> the county plans to construct trails that will help people easily access the river from the kramer hill neighborhood. >> there are more signs pointing to apple developing a new waterproof iphone. the company was granted a patent which highlights editing tools used for underwater photography and that hints that they may have a plan for waterproof or resistant gadgets. it woen sure scenes taken underwater would be vivid. >> this has been an issue for you.

>> shatterproof too. >> if we could waterproof mother nature. >> that's not going to happen. you don't want to have it out tomorrow or even tonight we've got some heavy rain we're watching mainly off to the south. it's been heading our way all day long. we were watching at 5:00 or 6:00 a cluster of thunderstorms west of baltimore that finally moved through our region at 10:00, now that's moved east but we have more storms on the way, especially if you live in delaware. here's what's happening right outside our window. we had some light rain showers move through. the lightning died down before the storm reached the area. here is what it looks like on storm scan 3. a few light scattered showers pushing into atlantic county, cape may county, you can see heavier rain back to the west. i zoomed to the south because most of this is going to miss us. you can see a lot of lightning here around the chesapeake bay, portions of southern delaware,

sussex county could see on heavy rain out of that but what we're looking at is the northern edge and it is starting to weaken a bit. one storm poised toward dover. and you've got another chance for storms tosm afternoon. a few scattered showers and thunderstorms here and there. steadier stuff down in delaware possibly down the shore and that tries to clear out. we start tomorrow with clouds, occasional breaks of sun and very steamy. 3:00 p.m. another round of storms begins to form to the west and around 6:00, 7:00, a line of scattered but locally strong storms could impact philadelphia and nearby suburbs and clear out by about 9:00 p.m. wednesday looks like a relatively dry day, there may be skaderred or isolated showers in the afternoon. the best threat for severe weather looks to be to our north. we are in a marginal risk here in philadelphia and surrounding areas. scattered but locally strong

storms before they get here, take a look at how hot it's going to feel once again. today we had our heat index values generally staying in the 90s. slightly less humid than it was over the weekend. tomorrow dew points surge and we're back to feeling like the triple digits. our excessive heat warning continues through 8:00 p.m. on tuesday. the orange is a heat advisory. that will redeveloper go into effect tomorrow around noon and continue through the afternoon. that's for farther-flung suburbs of philadelphia. but philadelphia and nearby suburbs until 8:00 tomorrow. and finally it looks as though that heat wave will come to an end. tomorrow feeling insufferable again. it's a gradual cooling so still a bit steamy, wednesday, thursday and friday. it's not a drastic cool-down. it's not like the winds of autumn are going to skeep in and it's going to feel fantastic but it will be a gradual improvement throughout the week. tomorrow steamy and scattered storms. the good news is tomorrow should be the last day of the heat wave

so we can rejoice about that but it's going to take a while to really dry out. in fact i think friday may be our first dry day in a while. i wouldn't call it a cool day and saturday looks pretty good as well. could see some rain late sunday. a trend towards improvement is a good thing. >> all right, lesley is here with what's coming up next in sports. >> we have a little drama. a soap opera developing in eagles training camp.
