commissioner bruce castor kathleen kane's number two at ag's office just announced in a news conference in harrisburg that he will succeed her as attorney general, through the election. kane, who is still the attorney general, will be a private citizen, as of tomorrow night at 5:00 but that does not mean her legal troubles will go away. she will wait for two months to learn if she will go to jail. montgomery county jury convicted her on all nine counts of perjury and related charges last night. kane was convicted of deliberately leaking information to get revenge against former philadelphia state prosecutor frank fina. prosecutors say kane did it after bad press, in a news conference, that just wrapped up, bruce castor answered a peppering of questions from reporters in harrisburg and said that he is ready to take the helm until the election. >> once the jury has spoken, it becomes very difficult for any law enforcement officer to have chris built with even an appeal of a criminal

strong storms and that is what we have moving in the region tonight this line of very nasty then are storms mainly north and west of the city right now but these storms after lot of lightening and threat for very strong damaging wind. i want to zoom in on this region to see what we are looking at. strongest storms in our areas over berks county, keeping a close eye on this cell with lots of lightening crossing other maryland border and headed for southern lancaster county. air is more stable across south jersey and delaware. storms are trying to fire up and not succeeding. city on north and west will have greatest risk for severe weather this evening and tonight generally between now and 8:00 p.m. here's that strong cell over reading. it has that bow shape, this area bows out passing through reading metropolitan area with strong wind, wind gusts up to 60 miles an hour with that particular cell and severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for that area i will show thaw in just one moment. here's our severe thunderstorm watch. notice shore and southern delaware is not included.

areas that are 8 million people, bucks, burlington accounts montgomery, chester, philadelphia counties certainly that does include city of philadelphia and that goes until tonight at 11:00 p.m. here's the warning that is in place. the it is for reading, boyer town, robeson and northern chester county including my hometown of phoenixville, west chester, east whiteham township, southwestern montgomery county including in that warning as well in 5:15. i expect these warnings to follow storms as they continue on that north/northeasterly path through the next couple of hours. if we pick up a storm here in philadelphia alikely between six and 7:00 o'clock hours. we will have more on these storms as we continue to track them throughout the rest of tonight but one delaware family received quite a shock, last night, their house was hit by lightening. it caused quite a bit of damage. meteorologist justin drabick is live in middletown new castle count which more on that are ordeal, justin. >> reporter: that is right, kate. you know lightening so unpredictable you just never know when and where it will

hit and it could be so strong, one bullet can add electricity, up to 1 billion volts of electricity, and could get as hot as 50,000 degrees. that will cause destruction just ask the family their home was hit struck by lightening, it caused a fire and fried on of they're electric tronics. >> we were watching tv and we heard this really big bang and the whole house shook. >> reporter: angel bobar described a night as kay yacht i can, powerful thunderstorm hit sending lightening through her home. >> i'm thinking thank god that i'm alive and thank god i have insurance. >> reporter: house is scorched from top to bottom, and on all side, inside and out. >> when i heard the fireman said go get the ax, that was my sign that this was really bad. >> reporter: fire fighters used the ax to tear siding off the house because fire was burning inside the house. >> all neighbors are flocking here and everybody is concern. fire trucks are rolling in. neighbors called 911. it was scary.

think heat wave end today. i think we will hit 90 tomorrow. that being said it will feel better outside but it looks like it will in the clear out and get noticeably cooler, like lower than average until early next week. but we first to have track these thunderstorms and they are moving through at a good clip. they have covered ground in the past three hours. you can see biggest threat north and west where these storms are heading on a north/northeasterly path, as they move up from portions of south central pennsylvania and maryland, and headed into our northern and western suburbs. it is possible that particular cell we are seeing down just over maryland, pennsylvania border could clip the city of philadelphia and will move through southern chester county, delaware county and montgomery counties and these could slow down your commute in the western suburbs here within the next hour or so. biggest threat with these storms is damaging wind gusts, over 60 miles an hour when we see a bow shape like this. indication as we look at berks count that i storm could be producing damaging wind, frequent lightening with these storms and moisture in the atmosphere as we know so

threat for intense downpours will be around through the rest of the evening as well. you can see red shading poised to move in southern lancaster county and that cell will impact southern chester county. i wouldn't be shock to see a warning for that one. we will keep a closer eye on it. you can see structure of these cells, bow shape that we look for when looking for that damaging wind signature. we are under a severe thunderstorm watch. that is area shaded in yellow. it does not include shore. it does not include delaware, however 8.8 million people are under this severe thunderstorm watch that goes until 11:00 o'clock tonight. here's what we expect over next few hours, storms mainly north and west but we have to watch cell to the south, our best chance to get hit here in philadelphia, if we do likely around 7:00 o'clock hour but then storms hit a wall, is there not a whole lot to work with or instability here over south jersey and delaware. storms fall apart and maybe a stray shower overnight and that is it. worst of it within the next two or three hours and north and west of the city. tomorrow looks like a generally dry day with clouds

and occasional sunshine, could be a few late evening thunderstorms off to the south. what to expect for rest of the today scattered storms, threats, damaging wind and lightening and our biggest threat is north and west of philadelphia. severe threat for today, and tomorrow, again we are looking at a slight risk today, tomorrow just not really looking at severe weather but a few showers and storms that pop up off to the south. in the meantime temperatures off to the racees today. areas that have seen some rain, temperatures in the 70's right now but it is 94 in philadelphia. ninety-five in dover. you deaf in a italy felt increase in humidity outside today over yesterday. we're back to feels like temperature well in the triple digits. dew points in the mid 70's right now. it feels like 105 in philadelphia, feels like 110 in dover and excessive heat warning now goes until 10:00 o'clock for philadelphia and surrounding suburbs. tonight's low still very warm, strong storm possible early mainly north and west but otherwise mostly cloudy

flooding. cbs news reporter don champion has the latest from louisiana. >> reporter: larry lee felt helpless as he watched flood waters swallow his town. >> i kind of expected it, but i just could not picture it. >> reporter: for days, residents and south of of baton rouge louisiana knew water was coming. in just a matter of hours lee's mother's home flooded. his cold be next. >> yeah, i got a lot of friend that are losing everything. i have friend that drove out and lost everything. >> reporter: as water rose volunteers from a local college filled sandbags for homeowners, determined to protect their property. >> people here in or rent owe and other part of the assession parish say they are bracing for possibility of at least another foot of water by tonight. to the north in baton rouge, flood waters are finally receding, water was up to the roof of this home, and now you can see the entire structure. governor says 40,000 homes are

but humidity dew points back in the 60's. today in the 07's. heat and humidity feeding this line of storms moving from the west. lets look at what is happening right now we will go outside, our roof cam showing just a few puffy cumulus cloud, blue skies, almost heart to believe we have had ugly looking storms charging your way from the west. closest one right now over lancaster county moving into chester county as well and that is getting here, likely by the 7:00 o'clock hour around third philadelphia it will weaken before it gets here. these storms have been weakening slightly off to the west but we are seeing a lot have of storms really intensifying thanks to the heat and humidity and a strong wind threat with these storms as well. we had winds in reading measured at 48 miles an hour. the lets look at is what happening. storm scan three shows this line of of storms blowing up extending down from the poconos into the lehigh valley and all the way down to this storm right here over portions of chester county and into lancaster county. that is where we have a severe thunderstorm warning at the moment. i want to zoom in on this area

but first show you severe thunderstorm watch, in effect, for the entire area it does not include the shore, and it does not include central and southern delaware. rest of the areas in this watch until 11:00. despite it going until 11:00 i think biggest threat for severe weather will be in the next three hours until about 8:00 and then i wouldn't be surprised to see this warning be cancelled or systematically scaled back through remainder of the evening. receipts check with our eyewitness weather watchers and see what they are looking at outside. temperatures to the south and east still in the 90's, well in the 90's as well. ninety-six as we check with jenny janssen in cherry hill. some sunshine. she said dew point is 77, and her heat index now is 112 degrees. we have got 92 degrees as we check north and west of the city. still in the city in chestnut hill. he says another hot kay. heat index at my house hit 110. dew point high 76 degrees dew point. not very comfortable. 90 degrees heading down to the

first state of delaware and check with john dell in glassco at 87 degrees there sunshine peeking out. maybe a thunderstorm cooled it down a bit. lets look at one severe thunderstorm warning we have in effect over the lehigh valley over right now north and south white hall township emmaus, saucon valley and moore until 6:00 o'clock tonight. we have more storms really rumbling off to the south that we will continue to watch as we go through remainder of the evening. again we are in a severe risk, through the remainder of this afternoon and tonight. slight risk for severe weather. it is not in effect for the shore and southern delaware, we are not seeing warnings and watches extend down in that region just not enough instability, biggest risk north and west and that is what we have seen so far. temperatures right now 94 in philadelphia. ninety-five in dover. eighty-seven in atlantic city. we have talk about the dew points look at that dew .75. dew point at this time yesterday was 68. big difference. we are back to the
