with just 81 days to go until the election. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. several major wildfires are burning out of control this morning in california and putting tens of thousands of homes at risk. the three big fires are the chimney, clayton and the explosive blue cut. the blue cut burned more than 25,000 acres so far after breaking out tuesday morning. the fire is just 4% contained. and 82,000 people have been told to evacuate. tom wade of our los angeles station kcbs reports. >> reporter: good morning. as you can see behind me, there are still many hot spots burning near the town of wrightwood. here is a critical defense line for firefighters. they need to make sure these flames do not advance. the inferno raced on for a

second night in san bernardino county. fire crews are paying particular attention to the ski town of wrightwood where flames are inching closer and closer to home. >> hopefully, these guys will take care of it and then we can be safe because we got no place to go. >> reporter: the blue cut fire has already managed to scorch thousands of acres and destroyed countless homes, many in the town of phelan. this man found his dogs save and his property still standing. >> all of the house across the street are just ground. everything is burnt to the foundation, so i didn't have much hope for our place, but we were fortunate. >> reporter: despite a mandatory evacuation order in wrightwood, some homeowners have mixed feelings about leaving their property. >> it's my home. would you leave your home? >> our cars are lined up and ready to go if we have to go. >> reporter: kathy mattingly of cal fire has warned against staying behind. >> last summer we did lose some

people and they refused to leave and there were lives lost. >> reporter: so far, 82,000 people have been forced to evacuate. firefighters will be working throughout the morning to protect the town of wrightwood which is just a few miles from where i'm standing. tom wait for cbs news, wrightwood, california. brazilian authorities removed two swimmers from their flight to question them. jack >> investigators say they found little to support the claim and say some details in the swimmers' stories vary. the judge who ordered their pass poured seized says the group

doesn't appear shaken up in security video obtained by "the daily mail" that was recorded shortly after the alleged robbery. conger and bentz won't be allowed to leave brazil until they answers questions. lochte is already back in the u.s. donald trump is in north carolina today holding a fund-raising rally in charlotte and hillary clinton meets with law enforcement leaders in new york. they dismissed a shake up of trump's campaign says it doesn't change the man who is running against her. hena daniels joins us from new york. >> reporter: with it trump's second campaign shake-up in just two months, his opponent hillary clinton says voters should not be fooled by the billionaire businessman's latest attempt to revamp his candidacy. donald trump attended his first classified intelligence briefing at the fbi offices in new york wednesday. >> this is something that has to come from the top. >> reporter: he also talked about his plans to take on terrorists with advisers and congressional leaders in trump tower, but trump is shaking up

his campaign staff with less than 90 days until the election. stephen bannon who runs breitbart.com now joins the campaign at its ceo and kellyanne conway joins as a new campaign manager and paul man a forty will remain but a diminished role. >> you don't take a top person and push them aside as they did to paul manafort. >> reporter: hillary clinton mocked the shuffle saying trump will be trump no matter who he has running the campaign. >> he is still the same man who insults gold star families, demeans women, mocks people with disabilities, and thinks he knows more about isis than our generals. there is no new donald trump. this is it. >> reporter: clinton did not talk about her e-mail problems. the fbi hasn't handed over notes from its investigation of her private e-mail server to congress. republicans are dissecting the

notes to see if she perjured herself when she testified to congress. a new poll shows hillary clinton leading donald trump in several battleground states, including colorado, virginia, and ohio. meanwhile, a new poll out from monmouth university showing trump leading clinton in indiana. the storms and flooding in louisiana are now blamed for at least 13 deaths. more rain is likely today in the rage, while flood alerts continue to stretch across southern louisiana. more than 40,000 homes are damaged and thousands are waking up in shelters this morning. don champion reports from baton rouge. >> reporter: the head of homeland security will tour damage from the historic flood in south louisiana today. the fight to protect downstream communities from the water that already flooded the baton rouge area has taken to the skies.

mississippi national guard helicopters have been dropping massive sandbags to control the flow. in places with new flooding, like the town of moropaw, crews used boats to check on people still in their homes. not far away in the town of sorrento, the mayor estimated about 75% of the land in his town is under water. >> my house probably has five feet. >> we found it just like this. >> reporter: in baton rouge, where the water has already receded homeowners like deidre johnson are starting the cleanup process. she says it's overwhelming. >> i know it's material things and you can always get them back, but it crushes you because you feel like you're violate. >> reporter: for yet another night, curfews were in place in some hard-hit areas. don champion, cbs news, baton rouge, louisiana. for the first time, the united nations is admitting its role in causing a deadly cholera

outbreak in haiti. tens of thousands were sickened. the u.n. announced actions needed to respond to the crisis. more than 500 passengers and crew evacuated a burning ship in puerto rico. the caribbean fantasy caught fire about a mile off san juan yesterday. flames broke out in a ship's engine when a hose carrying fuel burst and caught fire. passengers escaped the ship using slides. most from the dominican republic, including dozens of school-aged athletes heading to competitions in puerto rico. you can see the burning boat at a marina in this drone footage over new york's long island. firefighters found several boats on fire. neighbors were warned to keep their windows closed due to the burning of fiberglass. three firefighters were hurt, including one who suffered carbon monoxide poison'ing. coming up on the "morning news." adele sends her regrets. the singer posts an emotional message to fans in phoenix.

olympic swimming star michael phelps is back home. he had a low-key homecoming yesterday when he arrived in phoenix. he asked for privacy from reporters as he got off the plane from rio with his fiance and his baby. katie ledecky was greeted by fans and took pictures and she wore her five olympic medals, four gold and one silver. the rio games have produced some memorable imagines. a new exhibit looks at sports photography and its place in history. jim axelrod spoke with one of the artists featured. >> reporter: as usain bolt's smile remind us, it is the single frame capturing the single moment that tells some of the most compelling stories.
