live from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 eye within news this morning. >> new this morning, tragedy in the fair hills section of the city. a woman in a wheelchair is killed in a hit-and-run crash where police caught the driver of the vehicle coming up. also ahead, an elderly manna tack and robbed in his very own home. this morning the search is on for the person who did it. >> donald trump's campaign chairman calls it quits. we'll have a candidate tries to appeal to black voters. i'll weijia jiang at the white house with the latest coming up. today is saturday, august 20th, good morning, i'm jan carabeo. rahel solomon is off. now, here's meteorologist, justin drabick, with eyewitness weather. how is our saturday shaping up? >> noticeably more humid warming up. still august, it will be hot,

humid, but today will be the best day to get outside. because tomorrow talking about some showers, storm chances, so overall not a bad start to the weekends, if you have outdoor plans again take advantage of it today, even tomorrow, it won't be a wash out, we do run the risk for showers, storms, outside right now, all quiet across the delaware vale, mostly clear skies, areas of fog that could develop in the next hour or so before sunrise, temperature, 74 degrees, calm winds, little muggy outside compared to the past few mornings. so we will see that increase in humidity over the next 24 hours. currently up in the lehigh valley 65 degrees, it is comfortable, 57, in mount pocono, so there is a few couple of spots this morning, quakertown, 64, six a pottstown, but there are the dew point temperatures up around 70 for philadelphia, low 70s into south jersey and delaware, still, below 60s up in allentown, you guys will get in on the humidity specially later this afternoon. storm scan3, nice and quiet, travel plans, hitting pool,

shore, looking good this saturday throughout the entire day. it will be hot. up to 90 degrees for philadelphia, some high humidity this afternoon. at the shore, mostly sunny skies, mid 80s, even lower 80s up in the poconos. talk about the storm chances returning for the second half of the weekend, i time it out for you, big changes for next week, show you the seven day coming up in a few minute, jan, back to you. >> justin, thank you. new this morning, philadelphia police are investigating if alcohol led to the death of a pedestrian in fairhill. it happened near the intersection every west lehigh avenue, and north mascher street around 1:30, investigators say a woman who use as wheelchair was trying to cross the street when the vehicle hit her. she was pronounced dead at episcopal hospital. police left the scene but located few blocks away on west lehigh avenue and kensington avenue. police now have someone in custody. >> philadelphia police are also investigating two shootings, one of them in kensington, officers found a 21 year old man shot near g and east hilton streets. the victim is in critical

condition. no word yet on suspect or a motive. >> another shooting is under investigation, this one, in north philadelphia. police found 27 year old man, at north 11 and diamond street shot in the back around 1:00 this morning. he is in critical condition. >> meanwhile, in wilmington, police there were looking for suspect in a home invasion, it happened in broad daylight. eighty-one year old man was attacked yesterday afternoon on the 700 block of hurt ford road. the victim's disable son was home at the time. attack. "eyewitness news" reporter natasha brown has the story. >> reporter: this brazen home invasion robbery happened in the middle of the afternoon, it started with a knock at the door, and ended with a elderly man physically injured. it was mid-afternoon around 12:30, when a 81 year old man heard a knock at his door. police say he opened the door, to find an african-american man standing there. the victim went back inside the home to get something and

that's when police say things turned violent. >> he goes back in the house, leaves the suspect at the front door, and the suspect ends up forcing his way into the residence, the victim confronts him, and a physical altercation ensues. >> elderly man was home with his older disable adult son. his son was in the injured. the suspect got away in red two door car. >> the suspect steams some items con significance of money, electronics, jewelry from the residents. >> neighbors along the p hundred block of hurt ford road are asked to be on alert, normally quiet and somewhat secluded area rattled by a brazen broad daylight home invasion. >> any information resident have to offer, if you have surveillance foot and in the area, if you saw anything unusual in the past day, week, month, anything, please feel free to call detectives. >> the 81 year old victim was treated at the scene forehead injuries that he suffered. he also later returned to the hospital for further medical evaluation, but we understand

he is expected to be okay. in new castle county, delaware, natasha brown, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> philadelphia police have charged a man in connection with a rash of day care burglaries. michael harris turned himself into authorities on tuesday. police say they connected him to at least two day care center burglaries. one was on the 100 block of east roosevelt boulevard, another on the 3900 block of germantown avenue. harris is suspected of committing 16 additional burglaries in the northwest part of the city since august 1st. >> meantime, olympic swimmer ryan lochte has apologized for his behavior at a gas station in rio. he originally creamed he and three teammates were victims of a robbery. brazilian authorities say lochte covered up the story to cover up vandalism in a gas station bathroom. swimmer jimmy feigen donated $10,000 to rio charity in exchange forgetting his passport the to leave the country. three of lochte's sponsors are now reviewing their relationship with the athlete.

>> hillary clinton will resume her presidential campaign tomorrow with fundraiser in massachusetts. meantime, donald trump heads to virginia today for a rally. yesterday the republican nominee visited flood ravaged louisianna, and as weijia jiang reports, he urged african-american voters to give him a chance. >> reporter: donald trump promised entheusiastic crowd in diamond del michigan he will bring jobs back to the state. >> no industry has been hurt more by hillary clinton's policies than the automobile industry. >> reporter: he also appealed to african-american voters, polls show they prefer hillary clinton by a wide margin. >> you are living in poverty. you are schools are no good. you have no jobs. what the hell do you have to lose? >> earlier trump visited flood stricken louisianna to survey the damage that has left more than a dozen people dead. he criticized president obama who is currently on vacation with plans to visit on

amounts for relatively minor crimes. the obama administration says fixed bail unfairly victimize z low income defendant. thursday's filing came in the case after georgia man who spent six night behind bars, because he couldn't afford the fixed $160 bail for public drunkenness. >> local people with syrian ties are praying for peace in their native war torn country. this video of a little boy who was pulled from a rubble of an air strike in syria has sparked renewed conversations about the conflict. a syrian native, now lives in allentown, he hopes people will take the emotion stirred by that image, and turn them into action to help ends the violence between rebels and the syrian government. >> this boy delivered a message to the entire wormed, to stop this ugly war, and we need to take more active role, because we are the world lead nation, united state of america. >> now the little boy rescued in syria is five years old,

including two new jersey transit buss in newark. eyewitnesses said one bus was only the driver aboard t bone another bus caring about 20 people. the force crushed the middle of the bus, trapping passengers, the driver of the empty bus died at the scene, passenger on the other bus died at the hospital. seventeen others were injured. >> slowly gaining ground on wild fire that's been burning for four days straight, the 1600 firefighters working the blaze happened about 26% contained, but not before it scorched more than 59 square miles, and destroyed at least 96 homes in more than 200 structures. >> at the peak of the fire, today, some of those orders have been lifted. the cause of this fire is still under investigation. >> winnie, dry, not helping at all. >> not at all. we will get some rain for our area, mainly tomorrow, in the form of some showers, storms, but at least in the talking

about excessive heat this weekend, still hot, humid, up around 90 degrees. i think we're used to it by now. some relief in site in our forecast. outside right now, nice quiet start to our saturday morning, a go for that morning work out. just battle the humidity around the city. not quite humid yet to the far northwest suburbs, but you will feel the difference later this afternoon, keep things dry throughout the morning hours, check out temperatures, generally upper 60s to about 70 degrees across south jersey, delaware, dover checking in at 72, nice start to the jersey shore, delaware beaches, low and mid 70s, 74 rehoboth beach. seventy up in cherry hill, up around philadelphia similar numbers. then we cool off north and wells, as typical for northwest suburbs, quakertown, one of the cooler spots at 64 degrees, 66 ambler, and 57 up in mount pocono. now, talk about the humidity, on the rise little bit compared to the past few days, nothing terrible. we can handle this. not as bad as it was few days ago. dew point right now 69 degrees, so that does put it in the oppressive mode

here, and that's going to really stay like that throughout the rest of the week. humidity down to the 50's, something to look for the to if you don't like the recent weather we've been dealing with. couple stray showers breaking out western pennsylvania, maybe stray shower later this afternoon, but most areas stay dry, eventually, tomorrow afternoon, we start to see our next round of some widespread showers and thunderstorms, as a cold front approaches. good beach day today, mostly sunny skies, at the jersey shore, high temperatures up around 86 degrees, later this morning, then the sea breeze will kick in little bit this afternoon, east winds 10 miles per hour, ocean water comfortable at 72 degrees, still watching the tropics, starting to heat up as is typical for the second half of august. tropical storm fiona, moving west-northwest at 13. here is the track. to the wells northwest, weakens into tropical depression, and whatever remnants are left next week should remain out over the

open waters of the atlantic, probably head northward toward bermuda, a probably not strong enough to bring increase in waves to the jersey shore, so you won't know effect from fiona. sunny skies today, upper 80s to 90 degrees. here coals the cold front, mainly tomorrow afternoon, temperatures again the 80s, once this front passes, we really drop our highs, actually, going below average, starting monday, humidity drops very dry, and nice conditions ahead for the second half of august next week. so, let's time things out. today sunshine mixed when few clouds around, tonight keep things dry, tomorrow morning is dry. it is mid afternoon we start to see couple of showers, thunderstorms fire up. that will continue through the afternoon into the evening hours, and eventually overnight, those showers come to an end. so there is a marginal risk for severe storms tomorrow afternoon, for the areas here in green, the exception, far eastern new jersey, about 5% chance, hot today, near 90 for the inland spot, muggy tonight, six off's, 70s, tomorrow still on the warm

"eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff live in the cbs-3 news center this morning, good morning, alex. >> reporter: jan, ronald betting professor in the communications department at penn state's main campus since 1988. now, police believe, that the man who had originally reported him missing is the same person responsible for his murder on wednesday state police it, 56 year old robert betting car, quarry in center county, brief search led to his body at the bottom of ravine, push off 80-foot cliff by 39 year old george i shall letter. state police say that ishler who had been living with betting admitted to luring him to the area with the idea that they would harvest marijuana plants. >> that spackle in his eye when he would talk, he had such passion when he spoke about things. >> that is the voice of the sister after woman who was also at the scene when betting was killed.

prosecutors requests to have the girl face criminally neglect homicide and conspiracy charges as an adult, instead, she will go on trial in family court. two other girls charged with conspiracy of minors. >> officials have ruled out sprague miami south beach to fight the zika virus because of highrise buildings there. this comes after five people contracted the virus in a area that includes the tourist hot spot. as don champion reports, the cdc is advising pregnant women to avoid both zones. >> says local mosquitos now transmitting the zika virus in miami beach. >> five individuals have already been confirmed as local transmissions of zika are connected to the miami beach area. >> scott says, three men, and two women, contracted the virus in a one and a half square mile area of miami beach, which includes south beach, the popular tourist destination. two of the infected are resident, the other three,

"eyewitness news" now there are no locally transmitted zika cases in camden county, and officials there want to keep it that way, they've ruled out new way for residents to report mosquito problems. instead of calling the counties mosquito commission, residents can report mosquito issues on line. >> what we developed here is a strategy, that will help us more intelligently work through this data, so that we can provide a more targeted, and tailored, and specific response for the community. >> now, residents would also get status updates on any reports for a link to the mosquito commission website, just go to our website, cbsphilly.com. >> philadelphia health officials say deaths related to the opioid phentinol are soaring. they're trying to get the word out that there is help available. at a press conference, up more than 600%, since 2013. there were nor than 700 fatal drug overdoses in philadelphia

last year. phentinol is frequently used illegally to cut heroin, which creates stronger and more dangerous dose of the drug. philadelphia says it will expand the availability of narcan, which reverses the effect of an overdose. on the cbs-3 health watch this morning, despite decades of warnings, many parents are still putting their babies to sleep in ways that increase the risk every death. health reporter stephanie stahl has more on the new research. >> jacky knows the guidelines putting her baby to bed. she should be on her back, sleep only in her crib. >> i have always felt it wasn't safe. >> but new study in the journal pediatrics, shows, many parent are using methods that could put their babies at risk, for sleep related death. researchers look to video recordings of nearly 170 infants, up to six month of age, and found, many babies were placed on their bellies or side to sleep. and more than 90% had items in

>> reporter: recently you may have caught some mezmerizing video of one of mother nature's latest phenomenon. yesterday east of los angeles, fire nato's have been spinning up. so i headed over to philadelphia franklin institute where jacqueline snyder gave us real live demonstration how fire nato's form. they're awesome. >> fire devils, dragon twists or fire nature owes, terms with spectacular fen on none. it is tornado like in appearance, how much, their formation location is opposite to that of a traditional tornado. >> unlike a tornado that will start from the top, work its way down in the funnel shape, fire tornado start at the bottom, whips its way up, like an upside down funnel that is happening. >> also, unlike an atmospheric tornado which requires moist air, fire nato feeds off of hot dry air, why they most often form in conjunction with wild fires. as hot air rises from the ground, it forms into avert
