one of the most quiet areas right now, little construction in king of prussia little bit ago in 202, now since been cleared, jim, over to you. >> thank you, new this morning, deadly home invasion in philadelphia's hunting park section. >> and investigators say two men shot a father and his wife right in front of his children. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch is live at the scene with the latest on this investigation. good morning, justin. >> reporter: report jan, good morning, six children safer with their grandparents, outside their home police and homicide detectives continue their investigation this morning, now, entering hour four, inside that north seventh street home, a couple gunned down, a man and woman shot in their second floor bedroom, not too far away that now that deceased man's children. this homicide invasion turned homicide is believed to have gun just before 1:00 a.m., 25th district police were dispatched to this home on the 3700 block of north seventh street, where in a second floor back bedroom they

found 35 year old father shot in the stomach reportedly by a shotgun. he was declared dead on scene. nearby, a 40 year old woman, said to be his wife. she was shot in her right forearm and face and neck area, and was even able to communicate with police en route to temple hospital where she is reported in critical condition. also, home, that dad's six children, ranging in age from five years old to age 13, it is believed that some of them may have been in that bedroom during the deadly ambush, police walked us through what may have happened upstairs. >> we believe two males entered the property possibly through a first floor rear kitchen window. they went to the second floor rear bedroom, that's when they encountered the male and female victims. they demanded money. for some reason, the male was shotgun shot both of the

victims. >> reporter: and back on scene this morning, crime scene investigators, medical examiners, and also detectives, remain on scene this morning, we know police have also recovered live shotgun ammo nearby, a shotgun, as well as a mask, police also say there are surveillance cameras in the area that may have caught video of the two men making their escape. and again, that woman, age 40, shot twice, she's in critical condition, over at temple hospital. those children are safe with their grand parent, but very tragic morning for them all. live here in hunting park, justin finch, cbs-3, "eyewitness news", jim, jan, back into you. >> horrible story. thank you, justin for that report. >> convicted child molester jerry sandusky is back in court today. the former penn state football coach is trying to get his conviction overturned, because he says his lawyer was inch effective. sandusky currently serving 30 to 60 year sentence for sexually abusing ten boys. our greg argos is in center county for today's proceedings, look for his reports later today on "eyewitness news".

>> well, in other news, a relative is the second person charged in the killing after penn state professor, whose body was found at the bottom of a quarry in center county earlier this month. thirty-two year old danielle guyer arraigned over the weekend on murder charges, police say she helped plot the death of her uncle, communications professor ronald bettig. investigators say he was pushed 80 feet to his death by 39 year old george ishler. angrierer did nothing to stop it. >> did he not deserve to die this way. drugs, mental illness, no excuse for killing someone, none. >> now, police say ishler and guyer thought they would profit from donald betting's death because after will the professor had recently signed. >> house fire in east germantown has claimed the life of a 61 year old man, flames broke out on clapair street on germantown area around 6:00 last night. a 63 year old woman was also pulled from the house. she is in critical condition

this morning, suffering from smoke inhalation, the cause of a fire is under investigation. >> and, two firefighters are recovering from injuries battling a fire in bensalem. it broke out on tennis avenue sunday afternoon around 2:00. one firefighter suffered diabetic shock, the other was burn, no other injuries were reported, and there is still no word on what sparked that fire. >> well, police need your help catching a suspect they say shot and killed a man in burlington county over the weekend. police say 26 year old samuel james opened fire on the 100 block of east federal street striking byron turner in the head. turner died, and five year old girl was injured as she tried to run away. police say samuel james is dangerous and should not be approached. >> we really want the public to know be very careful around this individual, dial 911. the active violence that he did last night was in restless disregard for any human life. >> family and friends held a memorial sunday to remember

turner and call for an end to the gun violence in the community. >> new this morning, president obama is back in washington, d.c. the president was enjoying some sun and few rounds of golf while vacationing on martha vineyard with his family. the president has come under fire from some republicans for not cutting his trip short to tour flood ravaged louisianna. the president plans to visit baton rouge tomorrow, to see the devestation first-hand. at least 13 people died in the flooding. flood waters are receding now, and the clean up is underway, 60,000 homes were damaged. fema has set up two disaster recovery centers, and already approved $55 million in temporary assistance. plus, $15 million in advance national flood insurance payment. louisianna's governor pushed back at critics who said the president should have visited sooner. >> i asked him to let us get out of the response mode, where we were still conducting search of houses, we were still making rescues. i didn't want it divert these

police officers, sheriff's deputies and state troopers and other essential resources and assets to providing security for the president. >> a network of relief now building across louisianna, the salvation army has even deployed mobile feeding trucks and tide providing laundry services to flood victims. >> right now, local red cross workers are volunteering, and also assisting in louisianna. the flooding in louisianna was the worse natural disaster to hit the united states since super storm sandy. early estimate predict relief effort could cost at least $30 million, and this number may grow. many of the calls for help are being diverted to our local red cross centers in center city, more than 10,000 calls have come in from people in need or from people wanting to help. >> can you imagine if the water roast to your second floor? could you imagine losing everything, that you have ever owned? that is the level of emotion, and intensity that you hear in

the calls. >> now the red cross is providing shelter and food to thousands of people impacted by the disaster, and be in louisianna in the weeks and months to come, as residents recover. >> turning now to the latest on campaign 2016. party officials insist donald trump is getting back on track, and will catch up with democrat hillary clinton by labor day. national polls show clinton maintains a five-point lead over trump. clinton will be in los angeles for fundraiser tonight, followed by late night talk show appearance. trump holds the rally at the university of akron, in ohio. >> well, still ahead: the closing ceremonies have wrapped up in rio. but it was a surprise appearance that has got everyone talking. we'll show you the highlights. >> also, nearly dozen people are hurt after a car crashes into a crowd. the sick tips were all leaving a concert. we'll tell you what the driver says what went wrong. >> fire fight remembers battling seven different wild fires, in california. this one is threatening a landmark. we've got an update when we

so now i'm not being perky, telling you that drivers that switch to progressive save an average of $548! whoo! i mean, whoo. >> woman lead ac concert for senior citizens, confuses the brake for her gas and goes into a crowd of people. two are in critical condition, nine others also hurt. all of them are in their 60s and 70s, happened in par ma heights outside of cleveland. police are investigating but so far no charges have been filed against the 74 year old driver. >> she did say she wasn't feeling well, that's why she left little early. so certainly have spoken to her for little while. but just appears it was an accident. she had mesa mistake again with the gas and the brakes. >> the driver was treated for minor injuries. the parking lot where this happened is also the parking lot for the police department. >> to california now, where seven different wild fires are

currently burning. >> now, that includes the reefier in santa barbara county, expanded to more than 21,000 acres, sent a giant cloud of smoke, high into the atmosphere. right now it is about 20% contained, there is no word on its cause. >> and another california wild fire, this one's called the chimney fire, is threatening the famous hurst castle. california officials have closed the tourist attraction, but the visitors center remains open for now. firefighters say the fire is about 4 miles from the castle but fortunately it is burning in the other direction. the chimney fire is about 35% contained. >> off initials san bernardino lifted all evacuation orders for residents sunday afternoon, about 82,000 people were ordered to leave their properties on tuesday, when the fire broke out. 60 miles east of los angeles. most of the people returning will fine their homes intact. >> a man dice at a water park in washington state. eyewitnesses say lifeguards were slow to react.

the 33 year old drowned in a pool at a wild wave steam park. eyewitnesses say the lifeguards took time to debate what to do before performing cpr. investigators are now interviewing park staffers. >> parts of the area saw some pretty severe storms yesterday, in a pretty cool cloud formation, down the shore. >> and that thanks to viewer, who sent in this video of a shelf cloud off the coast of kimble beach in delaware bay. those are some scary looking clouds. >> yes, definitely. >> i see those, i head inside. >> right? very prudent of both of you. and actually i got to give credit to ziek, he is one of our gold star twitter followers, sent in awesome pictures from stone harbor avalon pictures. thanks to him for that. thankfully the system that brought those shelf clouds in, has now since retreated. and high pressure is settling in do bring us absolutely gorgeous weather today and well into the next this coming week here. so let's take you outside. show you what's happening.

first and for most, we look at the wide picture on storm scan to show the retreat of the storms, so heavily with the main fall across maine and the canadian border, but we're in the clear at this point, guys, high pressure again hooking us up with some stellar weather today and well into the week. now, when you look at the water vapor loop here, in that blue shaded area, you have got the moisture. that's getting just swiftly taken away out to say satisfy. and the drier air is really taking it place here. this will be the theme throughout the rest of the day. and certainly throughout the better part of the week. so dry air from the northwest, little breezy here today granted high pressure starts to take grip, overall just beautiful. now, let's shift gears, talking tropic. we are approaching the peak of hurricane season. and that does common september 10th. so, you know, only talking ten and change aways, flipping the calendar into september, can you believe, almost into september already? that said, you know, you get into the heart of the hurricane season.

taillights westbound direction toward city avenue. see westbound direction, eastbound side actually looking okay. the westbound side, really starting to heat up as you push toward city avenue, and already, just crack the 5:00 hour, the schuylkill starting to heat up. boulevard headlights moving in the southbound direction, looking good, actually, the boulevard, this is at fox street, looking good in both directions both southbound and northbound. that's really great news for those of you that need to take the boulevard specially moving toward the 6:00 hour. knowing you still have traveling the roadways, probably will until the 66:00 mark. ninety-five at girard moving in the southbound direction, looking good both directions, northbound side, interstate 95, barely even ever look at it this time. southbound side keeping our eye on it. you can see some brake lights already going off. letting you know, you might be tapping on them. just know interstate 95 right now usually does heat up. then an accident has cleared in darby, lansdowne at golf road. have construction out there, 422 eastbound between trooper and route 202, right lane blocked, afternoon

olympics have come to a close, with the us bringing home 121 medals, 46 of them gold. >> a huge crowd bid farewell last night in rio, japan the site of the 2020 summer olympics, and the rio crowd was delighted when the japanese prime minister showed up disguised as super mario as part of the tribute to tokyo. they hosed the summer games once before back in 1964. us gym that is simone biles won five medals, four of them gold, and very first olympics, also could have won a gode meld al in posing for selfies, true for just about every other athlete as well in rio. the 19 year old flag bearer brought home gold in the vault, the floor exercise, the all around performance, as well as part of the champion us gym that is innings team. and, as we said, team usa won big in the final medal count total of 121 medals, 46
