live from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". good afternoon, everyone, i'm jim donovan. i'm brooke thomas, jerry sandusky in center city courtroom again today. this time the prosecutors are on the stand. seventy-two year old sandusky wants new trial, or released from president on. convicted of child sex abuse, in 2012, but he says he

received ineffective council. today sandusky are questioning 2012 prosecutor around others. they want to prove someone from the attorney general's office leaked secret grand jury testimony. if a judge agrees, sandusky could be granted a new trial, or released from prison entirely. our greg argos is there. he'll have live reports on "eyewitness news" beginning at 5:00. well, philadelphia mayor jim kenney in new york city today for the funeral of former police commissioner, john timoney. the 68 year old passed away last week at battling lung cancer. funeral mass was celebrated at st. patrick's cathedral in man hat on, laid to rest in west chester county, new york. john timoney served as first deputy commissioner with the nypd as well as miami's chief of police. within the hour, president obama will be in louisianna for a first-hand look at the devestation left behind by the recent historic flooding. correspondent don champion has

this report. >> reporter: president obama boarded marine one this morning, before flying to baton rouge, louisianna, widespread flooding there is blamed for at least 13 death. clean up is underway, but clearing all of the debris will take months. recovery will take years. >> we want to come back home, but we can't. >> the flooding damaged or destroyed 60,000 homes, and more than 106,000 people have registered for emergency federal aid. >> we don't know what we're going to do. >> people there tell cbs news they opportunity ask the president for help, beyond financial assistance, there has been a call for outside volunteers, to help with the massive clean up efforts. 80% of people in louisianna do not have flood insurance. >> i just don't know what they're going to do. they need assistance, they need money from fema, we need attention. >> mr. obama's visit follows a symptom hereby donald trump on

friday, the republican presidential nominee criticize the the president for not cutting short his two week vacation on martha vineyard. >> obama off to get off the golf course and get down there. >> louisianna democratic governor defended obama's decision saying security resources were needed elsewhere. don champion, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> in other news, four people including three young children have died in an apartment fire in chicago that authorities say could be arson. the fire started around 1:30 this morning on the city south side. a three month old girl died at the hospital. a six year old and four year old girl were found dead in a third floor apartment. firefighters also found a man dead in an apartment next-door. investigators say they believe the fire was intentionally set after a domestic dispute. >> well, fire breaks out in a new jersey home with the family still inside. >> what's worse, they were on a second floor. this all happened in say err ville, south of newark yesterday afternoon.

officer brian gay was first on scene. he says when he tried to go upstairs to get to the family, he saw the staircase was in flames. so he says he went to the back of the house and saw a girl with her head out the window, yelling she was going to jump. >> says the people who were getting louder, then look up in the air, she was already jumping. so she was on her way down, i got her. >> we are told two more women jumped out, woman able to climb down a ladder, cause of the fire is under investigation. a pennsauken man is facing a first degree murder charge in connection with beating death of his girlfriends' two year old son. twenty-four year old zachary tricoche will be in camden county court for arraignment this afternoon. pennsauken officers were called to the 5900 block of mansion boulevard late saturday night. the child's frantic mother reported her son was not breathing. we're told he was returned to cooper hospital where he died. police are not naming the child or his mother. >> new numbers for the centers for disease control show

pennsylvania and new jersey are among the states with the most confirmed cases of the zika virus. according to the cdc, new jersey is behind new york, florida, california and texas, with 97 cases. they're all travel related. pennsylvania's next with 82 cases, as of yesterday afternoon. in delaware, at ten cases. >> turning to our weather now, we are on a rolen joying another mild and sunny day, almost autumn-like. >> katie live on the cbs-3 skydeck with a first look at the forecast, katy? >> guys, just absolutely gorgeous afternoon, out here, so, so comfortable. and yes, it is a little dose of september really. when we look at some of the daytime highs we're expecting here today, but with the low humidity, the bright sunshine, it is just a perfect excuse to be outside. so if you have that opportunity, i hope you're maybe not stuck in a office all day long that you can't get out at some point and just breathe in the fresh air. let's take quick peak at storm scan, continues to be pretty quiet, and courtesy of high pressure it, will stay zero stay that way for few more

days, temperatures upper 70s, basically up and down i95 and down across southern portions every new jersey. we're at 76 degrees in central del way, mild in reading at 77 degrees. down the shore, you're in the mid and upper 70s generally speaking, gorgeous afternoon at the area beaches. and, as we look ahead in the eyewitness weather regional forecast, expect to tack few additional degrees, mid 70s in the mountains, upper 70s officially at the shore, and about 82 here here in philadelp. we've got the sunshine wall-to-wall across the region as a whole. as we look ahead to the area headlights, sunny stretch scheduled to continue. i'll tell you how long, but we also have that humidity starting to creep up on us, with time, so eventually, we not only see the 90's return, but also the potential for some wet weather. so again, later in the broadcast, i'll tell you when the forecast goes little downhill. for now, brooke, jim, it is gorgeous out here. let's soak it up while we've got it, right. >> absolutely. thanks, katie.

student at schools all over our area are getting ready to go back to the classroom. >> that includes students at saint charles borromeo seminary in wynnewood. the seminary has had 13% increase in students over last year, of the 45 new seminarians, 18 are from the archdioces of philadelphia. and, all of them are looking forward to hitting the books. >> i've been excited for this the whole summer, just been really anticipating this day. and i'm ready to start. >> the spirit of the seminary is really very, very positive. and there is a lot of positive energy here. a lot of support, from fraternity that the young men have. >> and there are total of 160 seminarian studying at saint charles borromeo. >> coming up on cbs-3 "eyewitness news", the campaign trail goes through our area today. we're live with the plan for trump's second in charge. >> and book it. we'll show you why acting now could gave you a break on your next

for this prca, and that could be in the coming weeks, coming months. there is no set date right now. now, this three-day hearing, focus on what the convicted child sex offender's attorney says say are major problems with the original 2012 trial. it was then that 72 year old former penn state assistant football coach convicted of more than three dozen child sex crimes. now, over the course of the hearing, sandusky maintained his innocence, and his attorneys say he was not given e effective council back in 2012. they also point out problems with grand jury leaks, and even possible prosecution press conduct, if the leaks came from the state. now this morning frank sena, and joseph, two of the prosecutors from the 2012 case testified saying unaware where the leaks from the grand jury came from. and they even started an internal investigation, into who may have been releasing information back in 2012. but once again, once again, sandusky is headed badge to

>> my body needs time. >> still acclamate g from oklahoma weather. just winter, wait until winter, my friend. compared to what we've been dealing with, especially when it comes to humidity, we are in the midst of just fantastic stretch here. let me take you outside. we start things off actually with just a statistic here. in talking about speaking of that cool morning, i'll give it to you, brooke, it is fair, 62 was the low at philadelphia international airport. it was l coolest temperatures since we reported since june 18th of this year. how much, coming close to then again here tonight. here's where we currently stands, gorgeous view outside palmyra cove nature park overlooking not a cloud in the sky. it is such a perfect scene here over philly. you have got virtually no winds whatsoever. and, with that low humidity, it just feels phenominal outside. if you have yet to stand out there, i'm telling you, make the most of this while you've got it. eventually the humidity starts to creep back up on us, to the point on friday we're feeling little on the steamy side,

veering on the edge of oppressive at that point. and that's just because, we're going to see another cold front start to push its way our way. looks as though it will fizzle with time. but it, does help get the atmosphere little bit just more moisturize dollars, basically, and helps build the heat, too, since we'll see more of southerly wind flow. for now high pressure in place, crystal clear across the entire northeast, even back to the midwest. meanwhile, we've got some stuff going on in the tropics. turn the focus there, fiona now at this point become post tropical cyclone, and we do still have area that we're watching right now, just east of the lesser antilles, looks as though it will continue in westward movement, potentially become big issue for florida down the road. so that definitely needs to be monitored. but we do have gaston now, out over the central atlantic, eastern atlantic. this at this point does appear as though it will turn into a hurricane, but likely stay out to sea. that's some good news. regardless we've got our eyes on the tropics now as we start to get ever closer to the

height of hurricane season. bright sunshine out at the air beaches. at 78 degrees currently, great beach afternoon, water temperatures in the 70s, uv index hi, latter on the sun block is specially minus the cloud cover. it will scorch you. rip countries being remains low, lovely to hear. in the city we'll hit 82, dropping down to 63 tonight. clear, comfy, another good excuse to give your air conditioner a break, that thing has been working over time, right? then we look forward in the forecast to the days that get warmer and woman err. we peak on friday, again when the next front comes along, probably bridges scattered shower, thunderstorm, but i would say more than anything just notice how steamy it is, up to the 90s for the one day. right now the weekends looks pretty awesome. >> nice. >> yes. >> thanks, katie. well, if you are looking to get away, some say that today could be your best bet for book ago flight. >> that is because today is considered cheap flight day. summer pricy fares start to drop as the season winds down, so experts say ticket prices
