hand transplant in philadelphia, and tonight a look at his amazing progress. a pennsylvania man tried to impress his date. how his stunt prompted an emergency rescue. we begin with the story of redemption. a philadelphia man is free after spending decades behind bars for a crime he did not commit. good evening, i'm ukee washington >> i'm jessica dean. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt is live in center city with more on the legal battle it took to get to this point. >> reporter: jessica and ukee, this is quite a story. anthony wright is home. his first time home as a free man in 25 year, a quarter of a century. thanks to jurors who met in this building behind me earlier today. >> the anxiety outside the gates of philadelphia's prison was palpable. >> i'm anxious, nervous, all of those things. >> reporter: anthony wright's dad, david parker and family members anxiously walk into the prison one last time.

>> how would you feel? 25 years your son? this is my son. >> reporter: the 20 minute wait paled in comparison to the 25-year wait to see anthony as a free man. the moment came as anthony walked out surrounded by hugs. >> can't put into word. it's nothing in the world to describe what i feel right now. i'm just so grateful. >> reporter: in 1991, wright was convicted of raping and killing 77-year-old lewis tally on this nicetown street. but it was dna linked to another man that exonerated wright in 2013. of wright credits his legal team with the innocence property out of manhattan. they retried it but that wasn't enough. his family proudly packed the courtroom today and when they found out he would be a free man, a sigh of relief. >> a long time. it's been a long time.

wright's son anthony junior was four when his dad went to prison, he was here to welcome him home. >> i didn't want to be in it no more, we've been in there long in touch. >> reporter: he will focused on his family, friends and feelings he lost a quarter of a century ago. >> i got my father standing right here, my mother, my grandmother looking down on me. god is good. >> reporter: anthony wright said the first thing he wanted to eat when he got out was a big piece of cheese cake. a spokesman for da seth williams here in philadelphia did not speak on camera but said in a statement that the da's office wanted to thank the assistant district attorneys and jurors, even though things did not go the way the da's office hoped it would go.

david spunt jerry sandusky is over for now, he's seeking a new trial. >> reporter: comments the whole story will be told? >> some day >> that was sandusky talking to our gig argos today. they want to call more witnesses. for past three day, the appeal hearing focused on alleged problem during the 2012 trial in which sandusky was convicted of molesting ten boys. both prosecutors from that original trial frank fina and joe were called to testify today about alleged grand jury leaks. they were concerned about how a local reporter got sealed testimony >> we took these things seriously. took various measures to try to keep the process as appropriate secret. >> if we can establish there were leaks made by government

agents, it could result in a dismissal >> there's no date set in the appeals process. philadelphia mob boss joey merlino pleaded not guilty to racketeering charges. 54-year-old is accused of taking part of in a health care fraud scheme. merlino was one of four tends alleged members of an can east coast crime sin can it arrested and charged earlier this month. bail set at $1 million for the suspect accused of murdering the 2-year-old son of his girlfriend in pennsauken. 24-year-old was arraigned in camden charged with first-degree murder. on saturday, authorities say tricoche began punching him for crying after he shoved the boy's mother during an argument over groceries. "eyewitness news" spoke with the little boy's grandfather. >> your less of a man to sit there and put your hand on any child, no matter what age. he was two years old.

there should be no reason you may you not hit him the medical examiner's office says tricoche's punches crushed his liver causing him to bleed to death. police continue to investigate the motive of the shooting death of a 25-year-old employee who was shot in broad daylight. they found leonard boil the third suffering from three gunshot wounds, taken to the hospital where he died short time later. his family says the violence has got to stop. >> what do we tell his daughter, when she's asking for her dad? what do we tell her? >> got to stop. it's just got to do something. of they just took another good one. >> no arrests have been made at this time. authorities say the case has been turned over to homicide special task force where they work on high profile murders or those considered especially difficult. campaign 16 with 76 days.

the presidential campaigns are focused on past victory. i spoke with the top clinton campaign official about how they plan to win the critical state of pennsylvania. this as both hillary clinton and donald trump forged ahead on the campaign trail. attending an event at justin timberlake's home. back in philadelphia we sat down with the clinton campaign director of state and political engagement marlin marshal talk about the importance of winning pennsylvania. polls currently show clinton ahead of trump. >> the key is what. >> it's a lot of things, they're doing a great job. they're doing a lot of out reach. we, we're hillary in pennsylvania >> the campaign has more than three dozen offices across the

state and 300 people on the ground. marshal said when it comes to winning one part of the state is not more important than another >> we're looking at everything. we're going to make sure we have a great operation in philadelphia which we're building up, we've been doing a lot of great work again. we're in pittsburgh. we have organizers across the state. doing great work >> donald trump began airing his first ads in pennsylvania. he spent in texas, holding a rally in austin where he discussed immigration. >> this election is to important we'll decide whether or not we have a a border. this election will decide whether or not we have a country. >> republican vice presidential nominee mike pence will be in north carolina tomorrow after stopping in our area today.

a four-hour ordeal for paramedics in pittsburgh rescued a man a trapped between two buildings. a university of pittsburgh student was trying to impress a young lady he met by jumping from this building to the taller one. he didn't make it. he fell three stories down. between the two buildings. the girl he was trying to impress ended up calling for help. >> it appeared there were three walls we had to go through and also we had people on the roof.

degrees each day here this week, we started off on a cool note, nicely in the afternoon, and tomorrow, just a little warmer, on our way back to the 90's by the end of the week, let's take a look outside. nowhere near 90. dropping through the 70's this evening. skies clear, star lit, beautiful moon. and feels pretty great. nice cool quick morning to have your morning coffee outside if you could that. in the afternoon, grab layers, it will be nice and warm in the mid 80's. stormscan 3 showing clear skies and a big dome of high pressure sits overhead. i want you to show you our next system. a system that's coming across the great lakes and upper midwest. by the time it gets here possibly a shower late thursday. possibly a thunderstorm friday afternoon. other than that, the system not a huge deal for us, which is good news, but as it approaches we're going to feel that up tick in heat and humidity.

ly temps warm in the city, 74 in philadelphia, due to what we call the urban heat island effect. the city has so much concrete blacktop that it tends to retain heat longer and takes it longer to cool down, that's why you see 74 in contrast with the cooler numbers, 65 in allentown, 62 in millville and 66 in trenton. due points have been comfortable in the 50's all day. they're starting to rise just a little bit tonight. due point at 61 here in the city. 57 in allentown and 58 in trenton. as a rule of thumb if you cool down 100 percent, a hundred percent perfect you could cool down to the due point and that's what we're seeing spots could drop into the upper 50's once again tonight. we had a lot of 50's out there last night. 80's again tomorrow. high pressure starts to move east, going to kick up a southwest flow. this approaches from the west. starts out as a warm front, clouds, possibly a shower late thursday, a chance for a thunderstorm friday, as cold front comes through, ahead of the cold front back to the low 90's, friday.

you will feel the gradual up tick in humidity. pleasant tomorrow steamy thursday, one more oppressive friday but back to the not bad ranger for the weekend. we got this one, we now have tropical storm gas ton going to stay out to sea and not impact the continental u.s. this is a little bit different. take a look at these tracks, 50 percent percent chance of development as it heads to did we not taking it into south florida by sunday. what we'll have to watch is whether any of that tropical moisture gets lifted along the east coast. far too early to worry about that. but definitely something i'm keeping my eye on. tomorrow mostly sunny pleasantly warm, heat up through the end of the week, one day in the 90's, no the bad, not as hot as last week. saturday and sunday looking pretty good with highs in the 80's and sunshine both days. no big weather problems on that seven-day forecast. which is great. >> that looks really good. thank you, kate. >> what's next in sports?
