equipment in to sift through some of this rubble, and of course the ambulances in to try to get those wounded out. about 8 miles from amatrice, they waited for rescuers, to dig outloved ones burried under the rubble. this man says no one has gone there yet. they sealed off the area, and kicked us out. at the vatican pope francis skipped his traditional cathykim victims, prayed for the victims of the earthquake, instead. >> and we're following breaking news this noon, multiple accounts report the american university of afghanistan in kobul is under attack. cbs news reports, several american professors are inside, along with possibly hundreds of student. eyewitnesses say they have heard gunshots and a blast, which they think may be the gate of the university being

blown open. we will have more details as we learn them, any time on cbsphilly.com. of course full report on "eyewitness news" beginning at 5:00. in other news this noon, police are searching for the man they say assaulted several women while riding a bike in south philadelphia. our greg argos is live in queen village with details on the assault, and the description of the suspect. greg? >> reporter: and, jim, that's right, very scary situation, police say over the past four weeks, or so, there have been four attacks here in philadelphia, two right here in the washington square east neighborhood, two more on the east passyunk neighborhood. and here is the suspect's mo. police say he rides up on a bike, spots a woman late at night walking home or walking on the sidewalk, he rides up on his bike, grabs her, then speeds off. >> the video shows the sexual assault happening quick, a man on this bike, grabs a woman, while she is walking down the street. then speeds off. >> just terrible. >> and in august alone the

philadelphia police special victims unit say four different sexual assaults by the same suspect, on the same bike, two in the washington square west neighborhood. >> really pretty terrifying, because this is a neighborhood that is considered to be very safe. >> and two other in east passyunk. in all four cases, the suspect assaulted his victims while riding the bike between 10:00 p.m., 2:00 a.m., victims describe him as young latino male, black heart, five-four, five-six in height, riding mountain bike. neighbors say they're on guard, may change their daily routine because of the attacks. >> i mean, my dog with me, and her last walk is at 9:30, 10:00 at night. so i have my dog with me, and less likely to go alone. i mean, i usually go with my husband, but i would be less likely to not make him go with me. >> reporter: right now, there have not been any arrests, and we are expecting to hear from philadelphia police and

investigators about this case. later on this afternoon, as soon as we have that information, we will of course pass it along to you. but right now once again, no arrests in this case. liver here at ninth and lombard, greg argos, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> thanks a lot, greg. philadelphia police are searching for a man in connection with the shooting death of his girlfriend's former partner, during apparent break-in in west philadelphia. it happened just after midnight last night on the 800 block of north monteros street. police say the woman, her current partner, two children, were inside, when the woman's 33 year old exboyfriend, and the father of those two children, got in through a window. >> as they're inside the house, they hear him coming through the second floor window. he enters into the front bedroom, where the new boyfriends is, and he starts fighting with the female first, he then start fighting with the new boyfriend, at some point a gun is pulled, we don't know who pulled that gun at this point. >> once police find that boyfriend, they say they want to find out who fired the shot and if the shooting was

justified. >> judge republican candidate donald trump is hosting rally in tampa florida in less than an hour, later today he'll campaign in mississippi. meanwhile, trump is suggesting he's open to softening his stand against illegal immigration. trump made the remarks while taping a town hall meeting in austin, texas. now, in the past, trump has threatened to deport the $11 million people who are in the u.s. illegally. meanwhile, democratic candidate, hillary clinton, greeted supporters, after a california fundraiser last night. her campaign is dealing with an associated press report, that claims that more than half the people with private interests who met clinton while she was secretary of state, donated money to clinton's foundation. the clinton campaign calls the ap's number flawed and distorted. >> all right, we're enjoying another comfortable summer day, full of sunshine, mild temperatures today. >> let's get first look at the forecast with justin who is

live on the cbs-3 skydeck. >> good afternoon, guys, that's right this morning we had another morning with temperatures in the 50's, and a loft suburbs, now starting to warm up a little bit. clouds mixed with sunshine, another great afternoon, to head outside. because we will slowly bring back that typical august summertime heat and humidity in the forecast. but check it out. compared to yesterday at this time, we're about anywhere from two to 6 degrees warmer, so there is the gradual warming trends coming at us. 81 degrees current number in the lehigh valley, allentown, trenton, wilmington upper 70s currently in south jersey along the shore, feels pretty good in some of the suburbs, 82 degrees already in palmyra, new jersey, and in mt. holly. now, the dew point temperature up around 60 degrees, still, that is not bad for this time of year, usually six a kind of that threshold, where it starts to feel really humid. not there yet. so, conditions pretty pleasant to be outside once again through this afternoon, that changes tomorrow. storm scan3, nothing happening, just some clouds popping up, just due to the daytime heating, that's about

thousands every dead fish are actually float being at monmouth county creek, leaving a very bad smell. the new jersey department of environmental protection says it started late last week in keansburg, they blame depleted oxygen levels in the creek and say this actually happened last year, around the same time. officials say they're working to dispose of them, but the strong smell is still lingering, there, right now. in other news, five of the bikes stolen last week from the wounded warriors project have been recovered and one person is in custody.

the bikes are like the ones you see here, they were recovered last night from a home in northeast philadelphia, worth some $37,000. and stolen from hotel near philadelphia international airport on august 15th. well, a delaware county woman chooses a message of love in response to vandalism in her neighborhood. >> that's right. now she is inspiring others to do the same. jan carabeo has the story. >> esther, never expected to encounter hate so deep in havertown. >> guy just i guess didn't think people were that hateful. >> but last friday, esther woke up to this. at some point overnight, someone spray painted a swastika on her trash can, her family and her community were horrified. >> i was completely shocked. i couldn't believe it. >> esther reported a hateful vandalism to police, and said the only one tagged, one might assume she would lead the

charge to find the cuprite, but she had different idea. >> i called my neighbor, and and he reminded me that love always triumphs mate. my neighbor drove by, she said oh, put a smile face on it. >> and she did one better, esther turned hateful symbol into a piece of art, encouraged her havertown neighbors to do the same. she walked door-to-door with letters, and her daughters helped request on social media. paint something on your trash can, esther wrote on facebook, we can in our little way turn symbol of hate into something beautiful. >> within minutes, people were outside, and they were painting their trash cans. >> post has been like close to 1500 times, and shared across the country. >> in san francisco, a synogogue actually used this story as their service. >> she has also received dozens of photos like these from friends who have answered the call, and support from neighbors, like he and his mom. >> the flowers i painted. >> there is no place for hate

74, stone harbor at 80 as well as ocean sit. humidity levels not feeling bad this afternoon. tomorrow, we call it steamy, little bit more uncomfortable. feel the difference. friday will be the worse of it, oppressive feel to the air. and then by the weekend the humidity starts to back off little bit. temperatures still still stay on the warm side, above average over the next several days. high pressure over he is right now keeping us nice and dry, lot of sunshine, showers out near the ohio valley, chicago, cold front that's going to work its way eastward, a lot of the showers will break up, not a lot of moisture with it, have a chance for shower or storm coming in on friday. but, very isolated chance, don't cancel outdoor plans. until then looks good, shore forecast, 80 tomorrow, sunshine, more humid at 83, warm it up to 86 friday. we keep it dry. good stretch going. sunshine continues into the weekend. prime time tropical activity, watching one storm system, over the leward islands, that's bears watching really over the next few days, tracks toward potentially florida over the next five days, so

this is tropical storm gaston, still winds at 70 miles per hour, again, that should stay out over the open waters of the atlantic. this is the storm we will watch. right now low pressure system. over time forecast models do take it up toward the bahamas, potentially into southern florida on that track. still it could go little further to the south and west, maybe make turn to the north. that bears watching. for the southern part of the us. back home though, high pressure keeps us nice and dry. here's the front i was talking about. comes in our area, friday, thursday night, friday, maybe a shower, chance is pretty small, when it does is push out the humidity, but pattern starting to warm up. we had cool couple of days, but now we get the ridge of high pressure over us for the end of the week, we got some heat building over the mid-atlantic, specially friday, sticks around for the weekend, drops back down to little bit to the south, next week, but 86 degrees, couple every degrees above average, pretty comfortable, then tonight, 67, still comfortable, lower humidity, extended forecast up to 88 tomorrow. humid, friday, the hottest day
