breaking news right now a philadelphia police sergeant badly injured in the hit and run overnight, impact so great it knock him right out of his shoes, we're live with an update on that sergeant and how a tow truck driver help track the suspect down. customers and employees, scramble when shots go off inside of a popular restaurant. whole thing was caught on camera and we will tell you who police say pulled the trigger. and it is impressive little boy who spent his take doing incredibly nice things for people, including a local police department four things did he with his mom to spread kindness. good morning it is thursday august 25th i'm jim donovan.

montgomeryville construction 309 northbound between stump road and route 202, that right lane is compromised and we will see crew is still out there. this is minor accident i was talking about in hatfield, mapel avenue at chestnut street make note, a minor accident just wanted to bring it to your attention real quick and water main break at route 202 and east johnson highway pulled off to the shoulder. not affecting too many people just yet. brooke, over to you. thanks, meisha. >> breaking news, a philadelphia police sergeant was run down by a car and thrown several feet in the a air in manayunk. >> driver kept going but he didn't get very far. "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch is live at einstein medical center where that officer is being treated this morning. the justin, what is the update. >> reporter: jim and brooke, good morning. police say that sergeant is lucky to be alive. he wases brought here to einstein with injuries to his head, neck, shoulder and knee and we are told he is in stable condition. now looking at video of what police are calling the

striking vehicle this is a 2008 toyota rav4. an alert tow truck driver who saw the main street accident followed that toyota and 21 year-old male driver. suv was found on ridge avenue about 1 mile from the wreck scene on the 4100 block of main street. that crash impact so forceful it knock that uniform sergeant who is reported to be in his 50's from both of his shoes and hat. he was transported to einstein, police say he was talking but dipping in and out of consciousness, a long the way. the rar4 hit the fifth district sergeant an inside swiped a police cruiser outside mad river bar near main and shur lane in manayunk just before 1:00 a.m. we are told another sergeant and officer were standing near the cruiser with the lights on during a vehicle investigation involving a stopped car and then that rav4 came speeding south on main. he is in custody and detective are working to retrace his steps before he got behind the

wheel. >> possibility that this 21 year-old who struck the sergeant left the scene. he have been in one of these cars. he will be interviewed and we will talk to some of these employees and owners of any of the establishments to find out if, in fact, he was in any of these establishments and if he was drinking and how much. >> reporter: police also tell us they have several witnesses in this investigation, back live that officer is in stable condition. he had has at least a broken collar bone and several bumps and bruises. he will be likely kept here overnight through observation. as for that rav4 driver he is in custody and will face charges including aggravated assault of the police officer as well as leaving the scene of an accident. we are live outside einstein i'm justin finch for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". brooke and jim, back to you. thanks for that report. double shooting in north philadelphia left two people hurt, police say just after

11:00 someone fired six shot into a home, on the 5900 block of north 25th street, a 28 year-old woman was shot in the arm and is in stable condition. five three-year old man was found, on the street shot in the leg and he is also in stable condition and there are no suspects. eight year old girl in camden is fighting for her life as police say she was shot while standing outside her home. it happened at 8:30 last night on the eighth ain't spruce. scott tomorrow sop police chief says they are looking at several possible sussex but no one is in custody. >> this is all hand on deck, lying in the sand moment. we're pulling out all of the stops to pull in the cowards that opened fire an this city block. >> police are reviewing their by surveillance video. anyone with information should call 911. three men are under arrest for a triple shooting in west philadelphia police charged 24 year-old card he will helms, gary martin and 21 year-old paul krol for a shooting that

happened over the weekend. police responding to the 100 block of south 55th street 9:30 saturday morning where they found a two-year old man shot in the stomach and he is in critical condition. twenty-four year-old was shot in the leg in stable condition. fifteen year-old boy was shot in the groin hip and leg. he is in critical condition. meanwhile investigators are trying to figure out how a woman fell to her death on a zip it happened at lums pond state park this bear, delaware. delaware state police say the woman fell 40 feet yesterday afternoon at go ape zip line and tree top adventure. people hoff gone through obstacle course in the past say safety procedures are thorough but you really to have pay attention touring the training. >> the staff basically takes you through how to hook up, to the wires, and everything that you are going across all of the obstacles and stuff. after you get up there it is

is a help tell believed to have had 70 guests inside. a five-year old's acts of kindness are getting a lot of attention this morning. >> william edward of south jersey and his mom cara made a stop at the winslow township police department with lunch. what is more the boy used his allowance to by it. his mom was inspired by someone elses kindness. >> we watched video of someone helping the homeless and next thing you know it is kind of just took off and he wanted to help the police. >> reporter: that wasn't all little william did. they also dropped off toys, and school supplies, to children at a domestic violence shelter and they took food to an animal shelter and then donated money to a local family for day care costs. you go little william. >> awesome. it was on this day in 1916 that the national park service was created. to celebrate the centennial they are offering you a great opportunity today. that is next.

we are learning the orlando hospital who treated victims of the pulse nightclub shooting will now bill them for treatment. this is according to the washington post. orlando regional medical center will instead bill insurance plans and a victim's fun set is up by the city. florida hospital which treated a dozen other victims that it hopes gesture adds to the goodwill that defines or land owe. of course, 49 people tied in june when gunman walk in the gay nightclub, pledged loyalty to isis and opened fire. police later killed the gun man. police in texas say a waiter shot up a restaurant after a group of customers got upset about their lunch order.

officers say that the shooting happened at a popular steak house in san antonio. they say one of the customers first punched the waiter and then the waiter in the red plaid shirt got away but then later return with the gun and fired several shots at the ceiling. a witness who did not want her face shown said people yelled, dove for cover but no one was hurt. >> there was old ladies on the floor, one in the back actually crying. there were people on the floor. it was scary. >> police say waiter and customer ran out of the restaurant after the shooting. they say there could be charges. texas is an open carry state but employees at this restaurant are not allowed to have guns inside. well, turning to more positive news if you are lucky enough to have the daze off today it ace great day to visit a national park because it is 100 birthday of the national park service. to celebrate its centennial the park service is offering free admission to all parks. many of them are usually free but some normally charge

for tonight partly cloudy conditions, sticky one, can't leave those windows opened, chance of the isolated shower west of the city. we have a cold front up wind across part of the western pennsylvania right now. it is slow moving and won't arrive in the delaware valley until tomorrow. pretty quiet on storm san three but not quiet in the tropics. we have gaston out in the atlantic right now our category one hurricane but good news is gaston is not going to be a threat to the u.s. main land, turning out to sea as it strengthens and moves it the way northbound but we have a secondary area in the tropics to watch and i will show thaw during 5:00 o'clock hour coming up in a bit. but for today another nice round of sun behind in store. tomorrow a few more cloud around and certainly more heat and humidity. 93 degrees with the chance of the isolated storm in the afternoon in association with the cold front and beautiful conditions, meisha, heading in the upcoming weekend that humidity will drop off once again, sun shane but still warm with high temperatures closing in on 90 degrees.
