this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news" this morning. a shoot-out near the shore. bullets fly in atlantic city expressway -- expressway leaving one person dead, and a crime scene at a wawa. this morning, we've learned of charges filed in philadelphia, related to the case. >> also, new this morning, a man was shot and killed in the cobbs creek section of philadelphia. we'll tell you why police say where it happened may offer a huge clue. >> fire destroys a historic philadelphia church. now nearly 24 hours after flames errupted firefighters are still at the scene. well today is tuesday, august 30th, good morning, i'm jim donovan. >> i'm brooke thomas. getting your day started with a check on weather and traffic. guess what? the whole team is back at it.

we're seeing these temperatures drop off pretty readily. we will heat up again here today. it will be a toast i one, guys. we flirt with 90 in philadelphia. everybody can bank on sunshine, though. region wide, it goes for all of the resort towns, certainly goes for the mount tans, 79 up in the poconos, in the sunshine, but, again, it is another toasty one here in philly. looks as though, meisha, a we will be wrapping up the month of august on similar note, too. >> sounds that way, all right, i'm not going to complain about that. thanks so much, katie. looking outside right now, just dealing with the vine closure for the construction, overnight construction, westbound side now opening, eastbound side, probably follow it same tune. it is closed between the schuylkill and broad right now. over night construction. we have some construction here, you can see, crews are maybe just starting to clean up right now, this is 95 south at the betsy ross bridge, one lane was open about ten minutes ago, and that was lingering out there until around 5:00 a.m. looks like that will probably clean up a lot quicker than they had anticipated, always

good news, so you can see the roving crews moving on out. hopefully this area gets cleaned up soon. causing little slow down already. also we have an accident in swenksville, park avenue, closed at pennypack err road because of downed pole. you will have to take alternate. spring mount road the best bet, again, all clear, jim, over to you. >> there is new development in the highway shooting in egg harbor township that left one person dead and four others wounded. >> philadelphia police sources tell "eyewitness news" investigators have charged a man with making a false report. but it is unclear how he supposedly connected to the shooting. at a wawa on tilt on road, police say, they found suv with bullet holes. new jersey state police say the people inside the car were involved in a shooting on the atlantic city expressway yesterday afternoon. around the same time police say they found dead passenger inside second car on the garden state parkway north of the expressway exit. >> it was not just a random

act. although we don't have all of the details we believe at this point the people involved in this shooting new each other. this was not a random act. >> investigators say they are not ready to discuss motive. they stress however the public is not in danger. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo is headed to atlantic county right now, will have live report in our next hour. >> also, new this morning, police investigating homicide in philadelphia's cobbs creek section. paramedics arrive to 55th and sansom street overnight and say they found a man had been shot six times. this man died at the hospital. officers say, they still have not been able to identify the man believed to be in his 20's. but, they do say the victim was found right outside a storage facility with several surveillance cameras, that should help in the investigation. >> well, two children are recovering after being shot inside south philadelphia home. "eyewitness news" on the 2100 block of south educating

terrace, authorities believe 13 year old boy was playing with a gun when it fired. the bullet went through his hand, and into a 12 year old girl's knee. both are expected to survive. police are continuing their investigation. >> the reward for information in the shooting death of gab re he will hill carter is now up to $76,000. the eight year old girl was shot near her home on the 900 block of south eighth street in camden last wednesday. she later died from her injuries. a funeral service is planned for saturday. >> a car chase that began in yeadon, delaware county ends with big crash in southwest philly, the car smashed right in an auto zone store. we're told an employee was hurt. no word yet on their condition or why the car was being pursued. >> a massive fire gutted their century old church in the overbrook neighborhood. more than 100 firefighters fought flames for hours yesterday morning at the good shepherd presbyterian church

lansdowne. the famous landmark has been in this neighborhood since 1912, serving five congregations, and hundreds of parishioners. >> i mean, it is horrible. i can't put into words right now. >> you can imagine, some of the craftsman ship or the carpentry that went into it, the stained glass windows were originally until. all busted out. >> now, we are told no one was hurt in this fire. officials say wiring was likely the cause of it all, and it started in the church basement. >> another historic church this one near pittsburgh, will likely be demolished after parts of it roof collapsed. it happened in duquesne yesterday. authority blame heavy rains over the weekends were causing the damage. seventeen people were being housed at the church. luckily no one was hurt. >> pennsylvania lawmakers scheduled to vote on governor tom wolf's nominee to replace state attorney general kathleen kane. bruce beamer's confirmation vote comes two weeks since his

nomination, former attorney general kane convicted after leaking grand jury information and lying about it. kane faces prison time. voters will pick a new attorney general in november. >> and, there will be no reprieve for the trump taj mahal. billionaire investor carl icahn has rejected an offer from atlantic city's main keen workers union that would have saved the casino. he said the casino will close as scheduled october 10th. the closing will cost atlantic city nearly 3,000 jobs. >> campaign 2016 inches closer to the home stretch. we are down to 70 days until voters have the last word. today republican presidential nominee, donald trump, campaigns in washington state. he plans to focus on immigration after speculation the candidate is changing his stance on the issue. democratic nominee hillary clinton attended series of fundraisers in the hamptons, without aid uma and dean,

report of her separation from husband anthony weiner. hillary clinton runningmate tim kane campaigning today and tomorrow. holding afternoon rally at the bay front convention center in erie. tonight he will speak at an event at the boys and girls club of lancaster. tom kean is scheduled to advice ate community center in bethlehem. >> foreign hackers breached election data bases in arizona and illinois over the center. development comes as voters in arizona head to polls today to select candidate who will appear on november's general ballot. one of the key races involves long time senator john mccain. nevada senator harry reid wants the feds to investigate whether russia is working to rig us elections. >> well, resident of horsham township montgomery county say they haven't gotten real answers about their contaminated water problems. last night, government experts talked about the potential health effect of water contaminated by chemicals used at the willow grove and johns

funeral arrangements have not been announced yet for gene wilder who passed away, his family said he was suffering from altzheimer's disease he kept from his fans for fear of disappointing him. he was in young frankenstein, my personal favorite, willie wonka. >> while the brazilian senate get ready to vote today on president dill's exit, violent protests broke out in support of her. police fired tear gays at people demonstrating, accused of doctoring the budget tote hide a growing deficit ahead of her re-election two years ago. during her impeachment trial yesterday, she denied any wrong-doing, and argued the trial is attempt at power grab by her rivals. >> storm warnings are up for a good portion of north carolina's outer banks today. >> forecasters expect tropical depression to power up into a tropical storm later today. the weather system brewing

about 125 miles southeast of cape hatteras, could become tropical storm hermine. resident are reviewing emergency plans, and updating their supply kits, swimming is prohibited, and ferris will likely see service interruptions through the weekend. a lot of our folks in our area are spending the last of their summer holiday down there, katie. >> yes, and it looks as though that system is going to thankfully bypass us, no direct impact our shore line, how much, you do still tends to get indirect impact, system very large, a loft times, at least they have broad span of their impact. so let's take another look here at this tropical depression number eight. it is, and it is going to, again, be basically just skirting past the carolinas, and then, making a right-hand turn essentially moving out to sea. that said, even though you are not going to receive direct impact on the shore line or in delaware, doesn't mean you won't have the impact. likely be some stronger surround every, dangerous rip current. if you do find yourself traveling down to the shore,

we will have real nice weather to enjoy, really want you to make sure you're taking care, and staying near those lifeguards, and heeding any and all warnings, really important. storm scan3, at least that's why high pressure is still in place for now. it will be eventually yelding to cold front. that's not for another day and a half or so. fifty-eight in the meantime is our current dew point temperature, remember, always say this, the lower the dew point, drier the air, frankly the better the hair day most days, with it at 58 degrees feeling pretty comfortable right now even at this time of day, a lot of times tends to be muggy when dealing with the summertime heat. lot of sunshine though in the forecast for us today. high hits 89. so little harmless if i takes with 90. see how we do, 70 degrees later tonight. still mild out there. starting to turn more humid by tomorrow. that's when we think we will actually crack the 09 degrees mark, watching for late day shower or thunderstorm. at that point as this next cold front crosses through, doesn't look terribly strong whether it comes to moisture content, does knock the temperatures back, by the time we hit friday, upcoming weekends, i know, jim will be
