lauderdale landed in santa clara about hour ago. it marked the first regularly scheduled flight between the two nations in more than half a century. american airlines will fly from miami to havana beginning next week. frontier plans to offer direct flight from philadelphia to cuba in december. >> turning now to weather, wrapping up the month of august on toasty note, but changes are on the way. let's get first look at the forecast with meteorologist, katie fehlinger live on the cbs-3 skydeck. >> that's right, brooke. really looking ahead here to the rest of the day, featuring more sunshine than anything. heat, humidity, and what else is new, really for august at this point. but if you have been craving maybe little bit more crisp, you'll get that chance here, looking ahead to the early days of september. let me explain why. start things off with quick look at storm scan, at the moment featuring couple of showers across portions of northwestern pennsylvania, those eventually arrive here in the poconos could pick up

something quick, through the afternoon in the way of a shower, maybe rumble every thunder. in the meantime, though, we do still have unhealthy levels of air quality, a couple of additional counties are now involved in a air quality alert. that's delco, chester, portions of philadelphia, now up to berks, rather, bucks, montgomery counties. along with that high pollen level, and pretty brutal uv and heat index. so do keep that in mind. meantime our temperatures as we stand are currently mid or upper 80s, still in the 70s in the poconos, but again, it is going to be very warm afternoon, region wide. as we take you forward in the eyewitness weather regional forecast, expect to top off officially at 90 in the city. may be shower or thunderstorm that pops up in the poconos. mid 80s down at the shore points. later tonight the potential for some showers and thunderstorms is scheduled to move in. now meantime, here is a little preview of what lies ahead for the upcoming holiday weekend. if you like what labor day has to offer up, sunshine, and temperatures mid 80s, avenue feeling you will really enjoy

lowden street in feltonville. they rushed the victim to einstein medical center where he later died. trail of automotive fluids led them to the striking vehicle a few blocks away on the 5,000 block of rorher street. the suv was empty and was missing its license plates. since we don't have a license plate, we're using the vehicle identification number. pretty confident working with our pcic, as well as the state police. we will be able to identify the registered owner. >> investigators also hope that surveillance video nearby helps them identify a suspect. police hope you can help them track down a man who stole money from boxes inside a philadelphia church. police released this surveillance video today. they say a man broke a stained glass window to get inside our lady of calvary church on night road a week ago last sunday. it is at least the third time the search has been targeted by robbers. pride one collection box from the wall, took money from another.

if you know anything about this crime, please call police. fines are going up for drivers in delaware, caught texting or using hand held phones while behind the wheel. governor jack markell is set to sign a bill today, that would double the penalty for first time offense. it will now cost you $100. if you're caught a second time, you will pay at least $200 in fines, and get points on your license. >> in other news this afternoon, chris brown is out of jail this noon on $250,000 bail. >> the r&b singer arrested yesterday for allegedly point ago gun at a woman inside his los angeles area home. churning hundreds of miles off shore. >> heavy rain already falling around tampa bay. omar villafranca has the latest from clearwater, florida. >> reporter: pounding rain and flooded streets in florida. , dangerous surf in the carolinas. parts of the east coast are already feeling the impact from two powerful tropical weather systems. forecast looms. >> we're going see a lot of rain, see five, 10 inches of rain, ten to 15 inches every rain, as you've seen with prior storms at times, we will get a band, see significant rain, and that's where we have the risk of flooding. >> as one system brushes the north carolina coast, another churning in the gulf. that system has the potential to dump 15 inches of rain in parts of florida, before making it way across the peninsula, and delivering a second round of severe weather to the carolinas later this

week. >> the storm is expected to make landfall tomorrow. they are expecting coastal flooding on florida's big ben, before the storm moves through georgia, and through the carolinas. omar villafranca, cbs news, clearwater, florida. >> trouble headed their way. >> yes, and there is a question mark that there is the possibility we may see a little bit more impact out of one of these. yes, so we will detail all of that, right now there is no guarantee, but there is, ya, i know, squinting your eyes at me. just a question mark right now. >> you're the messenger. >> yes, again, no guarantees right now, but i want to walk you through what's the latest computer models are showing us. just gave you a sense of what. we will be watching at least. for now let's back it up. bring you back to the here and now. over the last couple of hours, we've gun to see more activity bubble up on at least the north central portions of the radar here in pennsylvania, and also across up-state new york. this is the leading edge of the frontal boundery that does bring us our wet weather issues, and if you want to

even call them that, i would say early this evening, we could begin to see little bit bubble up on the area radar, time stamp notice, 6:00 p.m. so yes, possibly as early as the point where first picks with the phillies, could be little bit of activity to track, mainly going to wait until later tonight so 10:00, 11:00 tonight we'll have little more u m.p.h. on the radar to report to you. so check in with us on "eyewitness news" on the "cw philly" at 10:00. meanwhile, looking ahead to tomorrow morning, still lingering, showers, heavy pockets of rain, maybe thunderstorm. really the last gasp of the cold front, perhaps left over shower into the early afternoon, but generally speaking you see how the cloud cover starts to clear out, so we start to see not only the skies brighten up, but also the humidity levels dropping steadily. so today, definitely most steamy of the next several. looks lie dew point will continue to decline and really we end up with gorgeous weather, that is guaranteed for friday, saturday, and at this point sunday as well. now, let's take you back out to the tropics. there is a lot of activity as

we are approaching now what's technically the peak of atlantic hurricane season. gaston trying to work his way right now out of the little circle, strong category three hurricane, but hey it is moving away. this is not going to be an issue for any land areas, but it is already churning up our surf. meanwhile again see effort course of hours here, how tropical depression number eight continues to move out to sea, make that sort of right-hand turn, this still tropical depression, could still eventually develop itself into an actual named system. then you have also got tropical depression number nine, we heard in omar villafranca's package, multiple inches of rain to florida, but eventually make also another right hand turn. now, here is that question mark. as we look at this system, it regardless moving northeast. the question is what happens many days down the road? what we call spaghetti plot. multiple different computer models, take a look, see only one of two that bring it ever closer to our coastline.

now, this is all the way out to monday. still five full days away, but labor day, so we will keep very close watch on this. >> we continue to monitor that, but at this point the general trends, to keep it out to sea and more than anything our issue would be dangerous surf and rip current. so you need to play it extra save if your travels do take you to the shore anyway for the holiday weekend. shore is nice place to be, if it weren't for the stronger surf rip current issues, moderate rip countries being remains up and down every single shore town in our area. so that includes the delaware beaches, mostly sunny though and warm, certainly muggy the rest of the day mid 80s generally speaking with pretty decent uv index to go along with that, we mention the phillies, could be spotty shower, dotting the area radar, in time for first pitch. but i think generally the wet weather will hold off into the later innings, again, looks pretty scat nerd nature anyway. so, i think we're pretty much in the clear. phillies should play without any kind of major hit.
