florida is bracing for tropical storm hermine and we're watching the storm's path and what it could bring us over the labor day weekend. factorers say hermine is getting strength as it churns towards florida's gulf coast >> i'm jessica dean >> i'm ukee washington. more than 50 counties in florida are under a state of emergency. parts of the state are experiencing flooding already. and residents are preparing for the worst. >> justin drabick is closely watching the path and what it could mean for our region. justin? >> good evening, we have the latest advisory in now as of 11:00 and hermine has strengthened, still tropical storm status but still a lot of activity going on. we still got to deal with tropical depression 8 moving out to sea a still producing strong rip current. we got to focus on hermine, that could impact us for the upcoming holiday weekend. here's the latest status from the national hurricane center. winds up to 60 miles per hour in the center of the storm moving north north and east slowly at

ten miles per hour. it will head towards north florida probably making land fall potential as a low end hurricane late thursday, early friday, weakens as it moves inland. and then it starts to head back out to sea some time during the weekend. you can still see wind speeds up to 50 miles per hour. forecast models still take it up the coast. if it's on the far eastern side to have the spread, close enough to bring strong winds and high surfs to shore. if it's farther inland better chance to see heavy rain and kicks on out for labor day. nonetheless we're going to deal with strong rip current into next weekly we'll talk about the potential impact if the storm tracks over our region when the full forecast comes up in just a few minutes. >> we will see you in a bit republican nominee donald trump just wrapped up a policy is speech on immigration >> he met with mexico's president.

of jesus disappeared last night. this happened at our mother of divine grace church at monmouth and east thompson. someone would have had to climb an iron fence. the suspect broke a stained glass window to get outside our lady lady of calvary church on. pride a collection box and took money from another. that church been robbed three times. if you recognize the person call police, they do believe he could be responsible for several other burglaries. a 29-year-old man is gunned down in west philly and police say his 12-year-old son possibly witnessed the shooting. of police found the victim laying on the front steps of the mantua haverford community center. he had been shot multiple times. man was pronounced dead at the hospital. police have reviewed surveillance video and say it appears the victim got into an

argument with another man who opened fire. the shooter ran from the scene. two big clues are helping philadelphia police close in on a hit-and-run driver who struck and tidal killed a motorcyclist in feltonville. david spunt joins us from police headquarters to explain. >> reporter: law enforcement source told me they know exactly who they're looking for. they're waiting for himtown himself in. who hit and killed 58-year-old. the philadelphia father was hit and killed by someone driving this gmc yukon >> he was a lovable person caring. of. >> reporter: she was devastated when she got the call that her boyfriend was struck and killed just moments after he left her. this surveillance footage shows perez leaving his car wash business down the street a few hours before the crash. >> it was a great impact to me. i cannot believe it that he passed away. >> reporter: police say the driver left the scene in the

yukon, then pulled into this alley. home surveillance video shows the driver outside of the car removing something from the back. authorities believe it was the license plate to try and throw off detectives. but they had the vehicle identification number and found a trail of motor oil and other fluid. >> we also take the initiative and good police work, really good investigation and followed that approximately five blocks to where he finds it end with the yukon. >> the owner of the car was located but is not the suspect. owner or suspect, it doesn't matter to him who wants someone to speak up and do the right thing >> he didn't deserve that. be a human being, come on, turn your face, come on. >> reporter: i learned that perez was a first responders during the horrible events that happened in 911 in lower manhattan. if you have information about this accident, give police a call. you can remain anonymous, they're just looking for

information. reporting a the police headquarters, david spunt cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> thank you. >> trouble for the lower merion school district tonight. a judge ruled the district misled taxpayers to justify tax hikes. earlier taxpayers sued the district. a montgomery county judge ruled in their favor saying the district has repeatedly warned of financial clam mit ty and raised taxes even though the districts has plenty of cash. in reality, the district pocketed $42 and a half million over the past six years and some parents in that area are upset >> they broken their fiduciary responsibility to the taxpayers. of they've somehow cooked the books to make it look one way when, in fact, it's actually not that way. >> the judge calculated an average lower merion taxpayer would qualify for a $1400 rebate. he also ordered a 4.4% tax increase passed in june to be reversed. the district declined our

"eyewitness news" was on south broad as supporters of median parking gathered signatures. they're working in opposition to another group that's gathering signatures in hopes of getting rid of the parking. drivers caught texting or using hand-held phones behind the wheel. governor sign re signed a bill that doubles the penalty for a

get rain, especially around the sunday time period. even if it's far enough offshore and keeping us with sunshine it's still going to be gusty winds be dodging few showers overnight. cold front will bring a change in our forecast the next couple days, knock out the temperatures and humidity, back to average or a slightly below average, 74 looking across the delaware, calm wind, nice conditions you can see the skyline, showers around earlier more off to our west, heavier showers moving you don't have the north of baltimore. so heads up cecil county maryland and next hour you could get a rumble of thunder or two, more showers breaking out towards southern poconos, northern berks. that's heading to the e the no the out of the woods yet. the threat for a few showers extends into tomorrow. going to be scattered, not everybody sees them. temperatures 70 in allentown, 75 in philadelphia, it's still muggy tonight. but you'll start feeling the humidity drop a little bit through the day tomorrow at my south breezes along the shore,

upper 70's ocean city barnegat 70 at cape may. tomorrow's beach forecast, not best. more clouds around couple of showers possible. maybe a few peaks of sun in the afternoon, highs near 80. friday looks good, lots of sunshine at 78. we're going to watch clouds increase during saturday. becomes windy. planning out your weekend as of now, sunshine saturday overall pleasant, comfortable sunday we'll watch the potential for rain and wind, far inland as the poconos, depending on the track of hermine and labor day looks like we may dry out and get lucky, see sunshine as the storm moves on out. of given the official hurricane track, strong winds specially along the coast line, potential heavy rainfall but how much rain we see and where it sets up will be determined by track of the storm and intensity of it. cold front moving south and east through the overnight hours,

going to try to push out hermine offshore. maybe a little bit too late the. that's why hermine is able to track a little bit more to the west. carolinas early friday morning and possibly as far north at virginia friday night. where it goes from then is the question, depends how the upper level interacts with the storm. maybe kicks it out far enough to sea. we'll have to wait and see. scattered showers, few thunderstorms possible overnight, 70 for the city, 60s in the suburbs. cooler tomorrow, 84 degrees still couple showers possible. especially during the morning hours. and the extended forecast so we're going to start off the holiday weekend ok. friday looks good. sunny, pleasant at 80 degrees, clouds increased saturday. once again high near 80. watch out for sunday, that could be periods of rain and windy at times. labor day starts to dry out and sunshine back up to 84 and if you like a warm temperatures, wait till next week, signs of heat building again, upper 80's

as we told you philadelphia will host the 2017 nfl draft. official details for the draft will be released tomorrow but tonight we caught up with former quarterback rod rodney pete and his wife holy robinson pete. they know what a big deal this is for the city. >> it's great for the city of philadelphia. i love the fact that the nfl is moving it around from city to city, not just stuck in new york anymore. it's going to be great, the passion of these fans here, the draft or the nfl anybody seen anything about what's to happen in philly the next year with the draft. these fans will go crazy.
