we have breaking news, a major accident on i-95, within the hour, a tractor trailer, and a fire truck, crashed. this is a live look at the wreckage we know several fire fighters have been hurt, justin finch is there and we have a live report. other top story is weather today and what we are watching for this weekend, storm scan three shows system creating morning showers but katie is tracking the path of tropical storm hermine. today is thursday, and friday eve, september 1st, a lot of big things, happening about today good morning aim brooke thomas. i'm joe holden in for jim donovan. we will get started with a check of weather and traffic with katie and meisha. >> good morning.

it is busy. i-95 south and columbus boulevard, what a helps. we have people literally turning around and driving opposite direction trying on get out on have that. messy roadways, all together. >> and then on top of that rain coming down. thankfully it is not a super heavy rain every where. couple pockets where it is heavier then others and we can see that with tighter zoom, on storm scan three. heaviest rain is off shore or the at least over across portions of maryland but that will be rolling into portions of delaware as the morning progresses. morning drive most affect by this system. you can see back edge of our front. thousand with that said we will zoom out and take a look at tropics off the coast of florida there. there is tropical storm hermine and that is expect to potentially mess with our holiday weekend. let me show you latest updated track here for you on hermine. what will happies this storm will try to cut out to the coast but it may be too close

for comfort. looking at timing here it looks like sunday may be the day of impact where we have a possibility of rain, at least some wind, this is just coming right in now too close for any kind of comfort for our area. so with that said it is something we will keep a close watch on for you here we will do that. 74 degrees, at philadelphia international. we had a very muggy 75 in atlantic city and mid 60's continue to be the theme in mount pocono. the as day progresses we are expecting skies to start brightening up around the region. watch for these scattered showers to be popping up and eventually with time, skies will start to clear. we are in for some really nice days coming up, but all eyes it seems on hermine and that is something we will continue to update you on throughout not just morning but rest of the week too. >> all right, katie, thank you very much. what you are looking at behind me is had we were just talking about, justin will have more coming up but i want to give how this shot as well, two

separate accidents, i-95 south and vine and what i want you to see is how people are backing up and getting on the vine. with that being said, because we have this going on where people are turning around or backing up and trying to take the vine just keep in mind that the vine street expressway is closed for overnight construction. this is probably going to pose some problems for that even. vine is closed for overnight construction moving this is the west and eastbound side, westbound side might just be opening. eastbound side, good alternate, may be possiblely for that accident try to take the vine to broad street to the vine, or take the schuylkill. either way to get around that you certainly can but i can tell you it is a mess in that area. we have speed restrictions in place because of weather, 35 miles an hour on the ben franklin and walt whitman bridge this morning, brooke, over to you. thanks, meisha. breaking news on i-95 a tractor trailer and fire truck crashed overnight.

under the market street overpass. >> to this is what we have been talking about for the last few minutes, several fire fighters were hurt in this crash, "eyewitness news" reporter justin finch is live on the scene with the very latest information, justin, what have you learned. >> reporter: good morning. we are right here in the middle of i-95 south here north of chestnut the street here and behind me you can see the scene we are looking at right now one that has traffic backed up for several miles north. that is a white tractor trailer jackknifed underneath this chestnut street overpass. it happened, right on the right side of the wall behind that trailer there. we are told that this tractor trailer may have collided with a fire truck, of some kind here. that is this is the truck we were seeing here right now but they collided at this time. we do know of five transport toss presbyterian and also hahnemann hospitals, perhaps at least two of those transported are fire fighters. the results here now is a multi agency response to city

police and state troopers inn and also the philadelphia fire department are also here on the scene. this has resulted in a tremendous, backup here, going north, several cars here, extending north up 95. many of them telling us they have been here an hour and a half and two hours waiting to move. we are told at the time of this collision there was not any rain but the road here are still pretty slick, from the rain overnight, and no word if that contributed to this accident here. we are told by drivers here on the highway it appears that this trailer, may have actually hit the brakes and skidded, lost control and hit that fire truck and collided in the wall as you can see here right now. we have no word at this time of the severity of the injuries of those transported, however when you are trying to move apparatus like this it will take a while before traffic get moving here on i-95 south again. the in the meantime you want to avoid this stretch of interstate. we are live on i-95 south, justin finch for cbs-3

"eyewitness news". back inside to you. of course we will check with you all morning. tropical storm hermine is gaining strength and taking aim at florida's gulf coast. >> people started to leaving there yesterday as storm brought rain and already some flooding to the area. florida governor rick scott has declared a state of of emergency in more than 50 counties, project to be in the storm's path. hurricane madeline was downgraded to a tropical storm as it slammed into hawaii. hawaii island public schools were closed to day in anticipation of the storm, and flash flood warnings have been issued on the big island and maui county. people have been encouraged to stay inside. madeline has not stopped president obama from visiting hawaii. the president arrived overnight for an environmental conference, he spoke to several hundred people at pacific islands conference of leaders where he discussed climate change. this weekend the president will leave for his final trip to asia. republican presidential nominee donald trump delivered his much anticipated speech on

immigration. during remarks, in phoenix last night trump told supporters all immigrants in the united states illegally will be subject to deportation and there will be no am necessarity. >> they will will have one route and one route only, to return home and apply for reentry like everybody else. >> speech follows trump's visit to mexico where he met with the country's president. he said two discussed building that wall, trump says mexico doesn't know it yet, but they will pay for the wall, however, on twitter the president on mexico said he made it clear in their conversation, they will not. answer his visit the south of the border trump tweeted great trip to mexico today. wonderful leadership and high quality people. look forward to our next meeting. democratic presidential nominee hillary clinton commented on the meeting. she tweeted, trump just failed

parade, monday. we are now just 68 days away from election day, stay with "eyewitness news" for continuing coverage of campaign 2016. philadelphia police closed in on the hit and run driver who killed a motorcyclist in feltonville. fifty-eight year-old raul perez was killed when his motorcycle was hit by a gmc, this happened at whittaker and loudon street in the feltonville section of the city. victim's girlfriend said he had just left her before the crash. police say owner of the car was located, but is not the driver in the hit and run. if you have any information you are asked to call police. happening today septa and company repairing that silver liner five railcars will provide a update. septa tested some silver liner five cars earlier this month but we are told they were necessary because of the faulty design, that led to cracks on beams in more than 120 regional railcars. nfl is expected to announce this morning that philadelphia will host the

portions of florida and then just ride up the coast. i want to show you spaghetti plot that takes all of the different models, throw them in like a pot of spaghetti and slap them on a map. this is where they peg the system. some have them headaching it a loop, some way out to sea and totally bypassing it but general it is just getting a little too close to be comfortable promising dry weather on sunday. beach hazard continues into next week with dangerous rip currents, rough surf and of course this is a big holiday weekend for folks at the beach and shore points. if your travels take you there play it safe. pay attention to this stuff. it is serious. it does look like sunday would be the day wet weather would strike us if it does at all. it is looking like a decent chance. and high of 84. we're back in the the more seasonal low 80's right in the weekend, cooler courtesy of the clouds and potential for rain and wind on sunday as we

watch hermine up until that point. >> a lot going on. >> all right, thanks very much. >> what we're talking about and we will have justin coming up with more in a few moments, what we're talking about right now i-95 south between vine and columbus boulevard. what we are looking at is all reek also stuck in between that. we have vehicles trying to turnaround and get on the vine, all lanes are block here because of an accident involving a tractor trailer and fire truck. i can tell you right now this is involving injuries, but what is happening right now is all these vehicles trying to u turn and drive the opposite side of the traffic trying to get on the vine is causing a lot of problems. they were out there directing traffic trying to get you on the vine but then we had vine closure for overnight construction posing problems that way. the good news is for those vehicles stuck in this you are just stuck, unfortunately just stuck, ones lucky enough to escape it, good news is that vine overnight closure is opening. we can see westbound side of the vine is open, eastbound side is following right now.

lot of times in the morning i don't necessarily feel bad for morning commuters but sometimes things happened. today is within of the the days where i feel bad for on you commuters getting on i-95 southbound. if you there are already you are stuck between vine and columbus boulevard. i may have updates with justin coming up in a bit but it is a mess out there. >> rough way to start it off and wet weather does not help but at least that is clearing out a little bit. very distinct back edge to the wet weather moving through and that is courtesy of the cold front passing through. you can see back edge of the cloud right now. however still left with these showers and some of them are frankly steady and heavy. straight up call it steady rain out there. not everyone is hit, it is still a scattered situation when it comes to this but off to a damp start and muggy start, when it comes to our commute. on top of that all we are going to end up with much nicer weather in the wake of the cold front. it is a front loaded forecast when it comes to the wet wer
