of 75 miles per hour. it will make land fall on florida, overnight tonight, this will be first land falling hurricane in florida since 2005. and uncertainty does remain but models as they continue to come in it is looking increasingly likely we will see some impact here in the delaware valley. the question will be, how far out to sea will hermine pass as we head in the upcoming weekend. as i mentioned overnight tonight, likely to make land fall along the big ben region of the florida peninsula as a category one hurricane. the it will move its way autopsy long the east coast, so weakening is likely could transition in a post tropical system but likely, we will see some impacts as it will ride along the coastline and main time frame of concern for delaware valley will be saturday night and into sunday. we will talk about what potential impacts we could see as we head in the upcoming weekend, and where they could be the worst in the full forecast coming up in a couple minutes. >> lauren, we will see you then. town the shore preparations

"eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff is live in ocean city where looming impact of the storm is already being felt there, alex. >> reporter: jessica, officials say there will be two tidal cycles on sunday and forecast are projecting anywhere between moderate and major tidal flooding but beach goers we spoke with say they are still hoping for the best. >> i'm being buried by my children. >> reporter: under gray skies and growing pile of sand, paul mcdade and his family are out to get last grains of summer at the shore. >> we decided to come out to day even though it wasn't that great but these guys still love it. >> reporter: with the looming threat of the potential strong storm on sunday signs have labor day losses are already apparent in ocean city. >> we had basically a full house and then with the weather we had a few people calling and saying should i come or not come. i said just come take the chance at least one night take the chance. >> i don't mind having a day of the storm so we can all

office want to get the word out that stealing campaign signs is a crime, and those responsible will be prosecuted. a statue stolen from a port richmond church is now back home. "eyewitness news" was there as good samaritan frank waveas brought the statue to our mother of divine grace church in school. he saw the statue on push cart at second and girard avenue. he didn't realize what it was. >> i saw it, i said this was nice. i was going to give it to somebody for their yard. i seen it the on the news. i said i got the to call and take it back. >> it was just stolen. maybe something thought they could get something out of it. maybe they wanted it for their yard but i'm sure they didn't realize how much it meant to our parish. >> the church said that the statue was a gift from a family in the congregation and often a place of prayer. south jersey area summer camp employee has been arrested on child pornography charges in burlington county. police say an investigation revealed three two-year old

steven gifford up loaded a pornographic image involving a child or others to access. gifford's bail is set at hundred thousand dollars. he will have his first court appearance tomorrow. five philadelphia fire fighters are out of the hospital after their ladder truck was hit by a tractor trailer on i-95. around 3:20 the ladder truck was assisting at another crash scene at southbound lanes near columbus boulevard. that is when it was rear ended. tractor trailer jackknifed and hit a wall inside chestnut street under pass. road was closed for nearly four hours and all five fire fighters were taken to hahnemann with minor injuries. coming up on "eyewitness news" a fiery scene in florida, an explosion rocks a launch pad what officials think went wrong and how it will affect social media giant facebook. deeper zika concerns, the discovery that officialness florida are calling disappointing. it is tori down short and we are here in margate, city

a major setback for space exploration, after an explosion, today at the space x launch pad in florida. >> a test firing for space x's falcon nine rocket ended in a disaster explosion in cape canaveral. that was felt miles away and smoke poured in the sky. on board rocket was a satellite facebook hope to use to extend internet access in africa. >> major loss for owner of the aim oz six communication satellite a 195 million-dollar satellite, that was destroyed. >> reporter: space x released a statement saying there was an a nonely on the launch pad and no one was injured.

we have been talking about it, whether it is delaware, new jersey a big weekend down the shore. unofficial end of summer is here. >> vittoria woodill is in margate. is there plenty going on there to close out the season. >> reporter: absolutely. can you believe we are at the end of summer. i don't want to think bit. so i will not think about it. best place that we can celebrate our final torey down the shore of 2016 is other, no other, then in front of the loose i the elephant. we are so lucky to be here in margate. we are pumped. we have folks across the street and couple folks over here having fun and hanging out with us but if you are heading down the shore this weekend there are a couple of events that you do want to check out. let's throw a few up on the screen for you. if you are traveling out and about, we have a few festivals, as well as a few interesting events happening, to and from and down the shore like the boardwalk craft show and if you are heading to cape may an amazing festival there. a musical tribute to john williams is also happening

rainfall. burlington picking up .8 of an inch. three-quarters have of an inch in fort washington. storm scan three showing us that rain starting to wind down and clearing skies right now, in the poconos and lehigh valleys to a cold front throughout the area we will continue to clear out as we head in the evening hours. no problems there but storm scan three showing us big problem for a lot of as you long the east coast. this is hurricane hermine. it will make land fall on the florida peninsula heading later tonight. hurricane and tropical storm force watches and warnings along the eastern seaboard and now national hurricane or national weather service issued a tropical storm watch for parts of the delaware valley as well including the new jersey shore and delaware beaches. so we will look at our forecast models, as hermine continues to make its way up the coast as we head in the next couple days. models indicating hermine could linger off shore but the main time frame of concern at this point looks like it will be saturday night and sunday

along the coast where we could see strong winds, dangerous rip currents, high surf, coastal flooding and some very heavy rainfall. we will take a look at our wind projections. remember this is just one particular model, one update of one model that has hermine along the companies and we head into saturday. this is saturday night where we could see tropical storm force winds when you hit that 39 miles an hour threshold and go beyond that that is considered tropical storm force. we're in that range along the coast and westbound to the i-95 corridor as we head saturday night and through the day on sunday and then as we head into sunday evening and sunday night hermine will shift off shore and see those impact lessening but we could have very windy conditions across the area, this saturday night into sunday but overnight tonight, no problems. clearing skies, cooler down to 65 degrees. tomorrow a beautiful day before we need to pay attention to the upcoming weekend. the mostly sunny.

82 degrees. dew points dropping. still muggy in the city but dropping off to the north and west with dryer and cooler air building in on the back side of the cold front. we are at 72 degrees in mount pocono. seventy-nine in philadelphia. with you we have this big concert coming up this weekend and we're really going to have to keep a close eye on hermine because it can impact as we head into sunday for made in america show outside of the art museum. eyes on hermine in the upcoming weekend but labor day we will see slow i am o, gradual clearing, breezy conditions high of 82. and then no problems as we head into next week, of course, as we head back to work after the holiday weekend. sunshine returns but yes, keep yourself aware of the evolving forecast because it is always changing and always updating and always getting more accurate and better information. >> thanks, lauren. still ahead lights, camera action. >> northeast philadelphia is backdrop for brand new film very important message and the

here comes hermine the storm churning along florida's gulf coast has been up grayed from a tropical storm to the category one hurricane and it has not made land fall just yet h that storm is bringing heavy rain to that area and packing wind of up to 75 miles per hour. "eyewitness news" continues at 5:30, good evening i'm jessica dean. >> i'm ukee washington. done ton champion reports on how already rain filled florida residents are preparing ahead of hermine's arrival. >> this is life threatening. >> reporter: florida's governor warned residents that hermine isn't a storm to take chances with. >> we're going to have significant storm surge as much as 8 feet. we're going to have significant winds, 70 to

75 miles an hour winds. >> reporter: hermine intensified in the warm waters in the gulf of water mexico land fall is expect overnight in florida's panhandle from there hermine will head up eastern seaboard. florida has not had a direct hit from a hurricane in 11 years. residents along the gulf coast spent the day preparing for the worst. >> sandbags, you know, trying to get everything ready, tied down, things moved, vehicles out. >> reporter: outer band of heavy rain, have have been pushing on shore since late this morning. the by the time it the is all over some areas could see almost 2 feet of rainfall. a state of emergency has been declared for more than 50 counties in florida. and schools in more than 20 counties have been closed. they are using these last few hours of preparation to stack sandbags outside of his newly renovated real estate office. >> just mother nature. you just take it as it comes and to what you can do and hope for the best.

>> reporter: prepared or not florida residents are in for a long night. done ton champion for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". disappointing milestone in the fight against the zika virus for the first time virus has shown up in mosquitoes in the continental united states. scientists found zika virus in three groups of mosquitoes trapped in miami beach. since july a couple cases of zika has been link to transmission in areas of miami and south beach. authorities though have not yet found the actual virus for the mosquitoes until now. control is spraying where the infect mosquitoes were trapped and radius of an eighth of a mile. collegeville police respond to a very unusual call this morning a resident needed an alligator removed from their yard. at first police thought it was a yoke but upon arrival this little guy was spotted wandering down the middle of a street. the resident was able to capture the nearly 2-foot alligator and animal control came to pick it up. no injuries were reported.

well, pennsylvania gets a mixed grade in a new you report card on state obese toty rate. >> the report looked at eating and exercise happen eighths cross the nation. it found pennsylvania's adult obesity rate has leveled off at about 30 percent. that is the 24th highest obesity rate in the united states. for comparison in 1990, only 14 percent of pennsylvania adults were obese. the reports suggest that pennsylvania could improve with stronger physical activity requirements for school children, and better access to healthy food. most diets don't seem to make a dent in the obesity epidemic. >> scientists are finding some of the foods we shed away from might be better for weight loss after all. stephanie stahl is in the einstein health care science center with new research on low fat weight loss plans.

day mostly sunny less humid 82 e as we head in the upcoming weekend we are preparing for possible impact from hurricane hermine right now category one hurricane wind at the 75 miles an hour movement off to the north/north east at 14 miles an hour. we will make land fall on the florida peninsula as we head throughout the overnight period work its way along the coast as we head in the day tomorrow and it the will transition into a post tropical system but don't let that name deceive you because it still will have powerful wind speeds of 50 miles per hour embedded with it and potential for flooding and heavy rainfall. future win gusts and start off on saturday wind starting to elevate especially across parts of the southern interior new jersey and delaware and a long coast. saturday afternoon saturday night and sunday as well. we could see wind gusts to 39 miles an hour. that would be tropical storm force winds if you are along the coast you want to prepare for this potential especially

tropical storm watch as it the is looking likely that we will see impact is here in the delaware valley from what is now hurricane hermine. you can see on our storm scan three the eye well defined right the now as it continues to move off to the north/north east a category one hurricane with wind of 75 miles an hour. it will make land fall on the florida peninsula overnight tonight. this is the first land falling hurricane in florida since 2005. now latest track of hermine takes it up along riding the coast, south east coast and then eventually it will weaken to a tropical storm as it traverses over land and becoming extra tropical with you it will be a very potent system with the sustain wind speeds, storm forecast up to 50 miles an hour as we head into early next week. we have to keep a close eye on the cone of uncertainty with the the track of hermine because that will be depending on what impact we will see here this is delaware valley. at this point time frame of concern looks to be mainly saturday night and sunday
